Pick It Keep It (5:14)
Feel The Rhythm Of Your Soul (6:04)
Round & Round (5:33)
Mojka In Space (5:52)
Review: London record label and party High Praise have put out a series of hotly in demand 12"s that have all sold out in record time. Behind this next one is Russian producer and DJ extraordinaire Lay-Far wo. This artist has landed on the likes of Lumberjacks In Hell, Razor N' Tape, Local Talk, BBE, AtJazz, Tru Thoughts and more, so is a key figure in the soulful, bass laden scene. And he serves all that up and more here with opener 'Pick It Keep It' layering old breakbeats with diving bass. 'Feel The Rhythm Of Your Soul' is a hyper speed drum workout with yelping vocals and then 'Mojika in Space' gets all pixelated and computerised in its melodies.

Doctor Feelgood (4:42)
Slope (5:14)
Slope (Lay-Far upbeat version) (5:44)
Review: Mad Mats and Tooli's Local Talk is still going strong. The Stockholm label now taps In-Beat-Ween Music main man Alexander Lay Far, who appeared last year on the label with his Communication EP. The Slope sees him collaborate with the legendary Ashley Beedle of X-Press 2 and Darren Morris. First up is "Doctor Feelgood" with its '70s inspired production complete with funk guitar, swinging live drumming and an infectiously funky synth bass. The Slope" is a more downbeat affair for chill out moments, a deep soul funk number with swirling Rhodes, dreamy xylophones and rich analogue strings drawing comparisons to Roy Ayers RAMP project. "Lay Far's Upbeat Version" does exactly what it does on the cover, injecting a funky breakbeat into said track, making it more dancefloor friendly but still retaining all its soulful glory.

My Reflection (4:52)
Review: Moscow-based producer Alex Leyfa has been active for the best part of 10 years now, dropping albums on Local Talk and In-Beat-Ween as well as scores of EPs for City Fly, 4Lux, Soundofspeed, G.A.M.M. and many more. Now he's up on Lumberjacks with some choice cuts that show off his instinct for fluttering breakbeats as much as headsy house music, not least on the soaring, smooth delights of 'Good Thing!'. 'Up We Go!' rides another high grade break and chops up plenty of soul samples in the mix too, while 'HEAVY' explores a wilder broken beat terrain where you can almost visualise Leyfa getting creative on the MPC pads. 'My Reflection' completes the set with a seriously grooving house cut replete with loom bird samples and dreamy guitar licks.

April (4:35)
Review: Russian craftsman Alexander Lay Far has released his underground disco joints on Local Talk, Leng and his own In Beat Ween Music in recent times. Now the man resurfaces on Bristol's Boogie Cafe with "Reimagine Yourself EP", and it's a fitting home for these bass heavy and sampled based jams. From the pitched-down junglist stepper of "Spiral Movement", to the dusted down, broken beat emotions of "Something Else" or the bittersweet electro-soul futurism of closing cut "April" - this could be some of the best stuff we've heard from the talented Muscovite yet!

Review: As if prepping us for his third album War Is Over wasn't quite enough, Russian vibe maestro serves us a sweet starter course of edits. All subtly suited and booted with his cosmic, vibrant, groove focused signature, "Etagui" separates the Mann from the boys with uptempo flare, "Cosmic Lust" is a weapon of pure Mass Production while "Morning" takes us from sunrise to sunset on a gilded bed of Rhodes. Blow My Mind (bonus track) (4:05)
Review: It would be fair to say that Stee Downes, a vocalist, beat-maker and producer whose soul-flecked productions have appeared on such labels as Sonar Kollektiv and Lazy Days Recordings, is a perfect foil for talented Russian house head Alexander Lay-Far. In its original form, "Never Good Enough For You" is a jaunty, rolling treat - a hip-hop influenced soulful house throw-down propelled forwards by a deliciously loose, broken house groove. It's accompanied by a tidy instrumental and the bass-heavy house "Remix", which features "straighter" deep house beats and a wicked analogue bassline. The bustling hip-house influences can also be heard on Lay-Far solo cut "Blow My Mind", a throwback to the Halcyon days of rolling West London broken beat that makes use of some killer P-funk synths.

Review: The second release from the Version Galore label, following up an awesome inaugural release by Opolopo. They're are delighted to present you with something special from the heart of Russia - handcrafted re-edits by the Moscow based groove expert Alexander Lay-Far of Basic Fingers, GAMM and BBE fame. The disco fiend turns his deft hand at a tight resplice of a classic by a certain Rhumba band from 2nd Avenue on "I'm An Indian Too" (Lay-Far Refix) and this is raw funk! Next up, ladies & gentlemen (hint hint!) we have the Afrobeat soul explosion of "Like Her" (Lay-Far re-edit). Finally on the flip, Lay Far dives deep on the late night sleaze of "The Right One" (Lay-Far dub Tweak) that features some right pizazz if we do say so ourselves.

Review: With a sterling reputation in house across labels such as Local Talk and Glenview, often with provocative, political and conscious connotations, Russian craftsman Alexander Lay Far now draws even deeper feathers from his cap as he brings our attention to UK duo Riddim Research. Working closely with the pair to bring their floor-minded dub to life, the vibes sit somewhere between Fink, King Tubby, Silicone Soul and Mala depending where you place the needle on the record. From the chuggy swing of "Hustler's Dub" to the pant-swinging JB break on "Keep On Rocking" to the Smith & Mighty sized dub nodder "Clerks & Spies", the whole experience builds naturally and narratively while offering some key moments for the floor along the way. Genuinely unique.

Lock & Rock (Mr Scruff Absolut remix) (6:42)
Like The First Time (feat Magic Numbers - Ge-ology remix) (7:32)
Review: Mad Mats and Tooli's Local Talk imprint is back after a great release last time by Irish legends Fish Go Deep. This time around its the turn of Moscow's Alexander Lay-Far who after releasing two volumes of How I Communicate already this year, now releases the remixes of his dusty hip-hop influenced deep house. On the A side "Lock & Rock" gets a re-rub by the one and only Mr Scruff, whose dusty and low slung dope beat turns the track into a perfect Sunday afternoon accompaniment to a misspent youth in Berlin this summer. The vibes continue on the B side with NYC's Ge-Ology remixing "Like The First Time" doing his urban/high tech soul crossover so well once again: this one's pretty special we must say.

The first one dropped back in January and we now get to savour the second helping of the best cuts from the Russian house casual's refined second album. Commencing with the Detroitian-sounding "Submerging," the six tracks here demonstrate Lay Far's talents lay beyond the confines of deep house with the wondrous Mark De Clive Lowe collaboration "Jump Higher" a towering highlight. Taking full advantage of the New Zealander's talents behind the keys, this cut finds Lay Far dabbling in a vibrant broken beat style!

Review: Soon, Alexander Lay-Far will release his sophomore album, How I Communicate, an all-star affair featuring hook-ups with all manner of soulful house and broken beat luminaries. This taster 12" features a sneak peak at what to expect, and is crammed full of musically expansive, organic dancefloor treats. When I'm Seeing You (Red Rack'em remix) (6:37)
Review: In the third (and last) part of "So Many Ways Remixed" series we have yet another special set of heavyweights, delivering their own reinterpretations of Lay-Far original album tracks. Please welcome Kaytronik, D-Malice, Phil Asher and Red Rack'Em!

Kaytronik aka Karizma opens the EP with his Rub of "Yes You Can". Frankly speaking, from the very beginning of the project we were expecting something special from the Baltimore-based house guru, but the final result surpassed it all for us - what you're about to hear is a very soulful and deep dance number but with power and grit to shake large festival dance floors! Get ready!

On A2 the pro-active afro-house aficionado D-Malice (Defected, Soul Candi, DM.Recordings) delivers a percussion-heavy banger that will make you swing in no time. You know where it all began, don't you?!

The UK house legend Phil Asher kicks off the Side B with a remix of "Can't Deny", featuring Yannah Valdevit and Souled. Strong dance grooves is what Phlash has always been notorious for - this remix is another vivid example of the principle! Ain't no need to question the authority.

Last but not least we have the old pirate Red Rack'Em, delivering his trademark deep & dirty house sound with hints of Detroit and dub techno influences. A perfect soundtrack for a midnight voyage on a ghost ship or a basement party, maybe. Aye!

Next up is a silky jazz shake up of Pete & Sheila Escovedo's Cobham cover "Bolinas"; instant sunset material, it's going to get heavy airplay at the Croatian festivals this summer without doubt. So Many Years (Aroop Roy remix)
Review: In-Beat-Ween Music continue their programme of remixes from Lay Far's much loved debut album So Many Ways with a second 12" featuring the high profile talents of Ashley Beedle, Peter Oakden & Craig Smith, Tommy Rawson and Aroop Roy. It's Ashley Beedle who calls shotgun, rewiring the vocal hook from "Yes You Can" with infectious drum breaks, mellow organic chords, piano solos and synthetic bass lines. Typical Beedle funk this one! Fifty Fathoms Deep Label bosses Craig Smith & Peter Oakden focus on "We Are The Drum" teasing out a truly irresistible afro-influenced house groove, whilst Tommy Rawson adds some classic house flavour to "Let Me Fly Away". London-based master of reworks and a true nomadic soul, Aroop Roy instils some notable Latin spice to the Sarah Winton featuring "So Many Years" for a superb finale to this round of remixes.

Lay Far - "That Dream" (Thatmanmonkz Gon' Git You Sucka remix)
Review: Lay-Far's critically acclaimed debut album "So Many Ways" which took him worldwide gets a friendly treatment from the global music family! In the first installment of the remix series we have artistic versions from Atjazz, Inkswel, Jonny Miller and Thatmanmonkz! Martin Iveson kicks off the EP with a masterpiece of a remix for one of the highlights of the album - electronic ballad "Stand Up" featuring Pete Simpson. When the strings come in you realize - it's Atjazz at his best - conscious boogie for the soul! We believe it may easily become future classics! Inkswel's version of "When I'm Seeing You" is soaked in the warm sound of distorted drum machines and tape delays. Be warned - this heavy-hitter can actually damage your speakers! The B-side opens with the deep and sophisticated afro house of Jonny Miller whose remix of "Summer Vacation" immediately teleports you to the open air party in the Adriatic Sea coast. Last but not the least we have Sheffield's own Thatmanmonkz revisiting "That Dream". Inspired heavily by classic blaxploitation movies, Shadeleaf Music label boss comes up with a dynamic soundtrack for the imaginary chase scene. Badass!

Saaba Dub (Lay-Far re-edit)
Prime Climate (Lay-Far re-edit)
Review: Having recently flexed his deep house muscles with a couple of fine EPs on Local Talk and City Fly, Alexander Lay-Far returns to the world of the disco re-edit with an excellent three-tracker on Basic Fingers. Pleasingly, his edits are sympathetic to the source material, and there's no hint of additional house kicks or needless effects. Arguably the highlight is "Saaba Dub", an excellent instrumental revision of an Afro-reggae classic from 1970s fusionists Light of Saba. He also dips his toe into dancefloor-friendly prog rock with the sprawling "Prime Climate", while "Quality Hours" works a spirtual jazz-funk groove - complete with Rhodes and flute solos aplenty - within an inch of its' life.

Review: It's happening quickly for Russian producer Lay Far, whose breakthrough year in 2012 saw him sidle up to labels such as 4Lux, and now he rounds off an even stronger 2013 with his debut album for Chicago stable Glenview. His is a well-rounded vision of deep house that draws on the soulful roots of the genre while embracing the charms of modern methods for a sound that hits on a whole lot of levels. From the sassy roll of "Yes You Can" to the nasty bass and swing of "Let Me Fly Away" there's a lot of meat to these productions, but it's not all funky flexing as R&B-tinted "Stand Up For Love" ably demonstrates.

Triptych (Fathomline remix)
Review: Moscow might not be the most obvious hotbed for deep house, but as city resident Lay Far shows, there's some serious talent emerging. The producer also inaugurates the new Fifty Fathoms Deep label from Edinburgh with the Green EP, a record whose dusty soulful tones genuinely sounds as if it could have been picked up in a Detroit dollar store. The work of the city's Slum Village crew is obviously an influence, as heard in the break-ridden grooves of "Triptych", while the likes of Moodymann and Andres loom over the blissful melodies of "Is=Was". Fathomline's remix of "Triptych" opts for a more driving approach, sidechaining the chords and firming up the kicks for a remix that's both searching and filled with untapped energy that bursts forth at the mid-point.

It's Lay Far that kicks off with 'Never Ever Edit' which is all horn-led excitement and upbeat disco claps and kicks before Admin's 'Moon Trippin' takes a more slow and soulful approach. When it comes to edits few are more essential than Chicago's Rahaan who kicks off the B-side with 'Gonna Get Ya', a leggy funk number infused with cosmic synth rays and warm piano chords. Delfonic shuts down with the loose percussive jumbles and jazzy vibes of 'Let's Dance The Spank'. A fine start to the series with volume two already in the works.

This time it's a three-track collaboration between Peter Oakden and Lay Far, who come through utterly correct on "Tea Cakes", a chord-heavy deep house banger; twist and turn into the depths on the spectral sounds of "Day 3", and then rise out of the abyss with "Attic Lights" and its sweet, angelic piano keys.

Review: The recently found Soul Imago label delivers its first 'various artists' compilation and makes itself known thanks to some help by a rather talented fellow. Soulphiction, founder and label-head of the ridiculously on-point Philpot imprint, comes through with "Swing Low" and it's as jazzy as the dude gets, where nervous piano keys meet a big wood-bass and a little electronic post-production. Also featured are tracks by Russian house aficionado Lay-Far, whose "Looking For Changes" is remixed by Pablo Valentino, Noa Siano's minimalistic "Rhodesy", and the slow-building, chug-alicious "Tokyo Hotel" by Duktus & Blunted Monkz.
