Dusk (5:28)
Grey Skies (i) (5:11)
Review: Lo Kindre's work in and around the Scottish scene has been exemplary thus far, and he returns to the Phase Group label he runs with Mr TC for a full-length EP that continues his trend of omnivorous electronics without too much regard for generic boundaries. "Dusk" is an expansive slab of melancholy electronica with nods to minimal wave and proto-trance, which isn't especially in line with his earlier works. "Grey Skies (i)" features similar synth voices, but comes on more like an ominous Giallo soundtrack off-cut in dub, which is a wonderful thing of course.

For Sleep (6:03)
Review: 12th Isle's latest must-check chunk of entertaining experimentalism comes from Lo Kindre, whose dub-wise 2017 debut on Optimo Music was arguably one of that year's most overlooked EPs. "Chlorophytum", the producer's first solo missive since then, is another lo-fi electronic dub treat. Of course, it's not all gentle bass-heavy rhythms, endless delay trails and cute electronic melodies - closing cut "For Sleep" is a buzzing electronic raga, for example - but it's on these bass-heavy excursions that Lo Kindre most frequently hits the spot. Highlights include the extraordinarily sub-heavy shuffle of "Sounder", the ambient dub wooziness of "Aibell" and the creepy alien-dub oddness of "No Hiding".

Wisdom Teeth Dub (6:05)
Distant Dreams (3:35)
Review: Is there a more versatile and on-point label than Optimo Music? JD Twitch's imprint is certainly in a rich vein of form right now and continues to deliver must-have releases. The imprint's latest missive comes from debutant Lo Kindre, the recording alias of dub loving Luxembourg-born, Glasgow-based Irishman Daniel Magee. Plant Up details his deliciously cosmic, intergalactic take on dub, serving up a quartet of tracks that sound like Dennis Bovell, Golden Teacher and Scientist jamming on mars. We're particularly enjoying the zoned-out electronics, limitless feedback trails and jaunty bassline of "Wisdom Teeth Dub" and the Radiophonic Workshop-in-dub bliss of "Distant Dreams", though it's all pretty darn hot.
