Review: You've got to love Move D. The happy German chappy can do it all from heady ambient and synth explorations to feel good sue jams with genuine soul. He makes his debut here on the Rawax Records label and as ever is in imperious form. This is the sixth edition in the label's RX Series and opens with the deep house jam that is 'Circle To The Square' with its fizzing lead synth. 'Sweet Heini' (feat Bouillabass) is a gurgling mix of sordid synth lines and dumpy drums that stay low and then comes the zoned out dub house cut 'Drone' which has been retouched for 2023. 'Ripples' is another dubby one for back room headiness.

Drone (2023 version) (8:10)
Ripples (5:53)
Review: David 'Move D' Moufang may have released music on many different labels over the years, but remarkably this contribution to the label's RX series marks his belated debut on Rawax. As you'd expect given the Heidelberg-based veteran's stellar career and exceptional track record, there's much to set the pulse racing throughout. He starts in sparkling, life-affirming mode via the deliciously dreamy synths, bustling drum machine percussion, acid bass and spacey synth sounds of 'Circle To The Square', before exploring darker, moodier, wilder and more twisted, techno-influenced tackle on 'Sweet Heini'. Boulliabass lends a hand on the ultra-deep, ambient techno-tinged house hypnotism of 'Drone', while 'Ripples (2023 Version)' wraps undulating melodies and hazy chords around a head-nodding, locked-in deep house groove.

Jazz Is A Preacher (9:30)
Chocolate Fudge (7:57)
Ein Bett Im Hochbeet (7:13)
Review: Like his good friend (and regular collaborator) Jordan GCZ, David 'Move D' Moufang spent many of the pandemic lockdowns of the last couple of years recording live jams in his home studio. This 12" presents three more of these (probably lightly edited) workouts, which Moufang records using a wealth of outboard kit (think drum machines, synths, effects units and so on). 'Jazz is a Preacher' sees him effortlessly combine fluid jazz piano solos and life-affirming riffs with a druggy bassline, warming deep house chords and a cymbal-heavy drum machine groove: serious sonic bliss. 'Chocolate Fudge' is a loopy, blazed and quietly melodious chunk of Reagenz-ish ambient techno, while 'Ein Bett Im Hochbeet' is a pitched-down, dubbed-out chunk of impossible-to-define brilliance.

Review: ** REPRESS ALERT ** David 'Move D' Moufang's debut album, originally released in 1995, gets a much needed reissue here on Damiano von Erckert's ava imprint. Across the Kunststoff LP's dozen or so tracks, we can hear the zeitgeist of mid nineties electronics taking in obvious influences - mainly from Detroit and Sheffield but undeniably laying down the roots of what would soon become the signature of the Heidelberg producer's signature sound. From the blissed-out ambient house of "Soap Bubbles" (which would be further explored again a decade and a half later on Song From The Beehive with Benjamin Brunn), or "Amazing Discoveries" exploring the same sonic territory as the likes of John Beltran at the time. The bittersweet melancholia of "Tribute To Mr Fingers" which does exactly what it says on the tin, but its really about the many moments tripped-out deep electronica like the sublime "77 Sunset Strip" where the album really shines.

Inside The Dollhouse
Review: Off Minor Recordings has really blossomed into a buy on sight label under the stewardship of Juju and Jordash man Jordan Czamanski thanks to records from Magic Mountain High, Stump Valley, Move D, Zsa Gang and the founder himself as Jordan GCZ. It's probably the material from Move D that's made Off Minor that extra bit special, as Czamanski's been offered full access to his friends archives for the KM20 Tapes series. Where else could you gain some insight into the man like Move D's early '90s recordings at his KM20 studio in Heidelberg? This second round of archival material proves to be just as rewarding as last year's inaugural entry, with lead track "Willenlos" a killer 12 minute journey into classic deep dub techno. Flip it and you'll find a young Moufang dabbling in some trippy downbeat manoeuvres with "Evil Track" whilst "Inside the Dollhouse" fizzes with alien percussive qualities. Long may the series continue!

Review: Having launched Off Minor Recordings with some of his own refined solo material under the Cry Baby J moniker, Jordan Czamanski adopts a more archival tone for the label's second release, digging into the unreleased early nineties works of Move D. Recorded at his KM20 Studio in hometown Heidelberg (hence the name) The KM20 Tapes feel all too appropriate for contemporary analysis, drawing on a smudged and improvised approach to analogue electronics that would pique the interest of fans of LIES, TTT et al. The rugged drawn out acid of "Ovi Riese" in particular bangs the box in a degraded manner that is most pleasing. Excitingly, this is the first of an irregular series of archival material from Moufang on Off Minor with Czamanski apparently sitting on a tonne of tracks.

Review: Second time around for David "Move D" Moufang and Benjamin Brunn's first full-length collaboration, a set of unsurprisingly deep, minimalistic house, techno and ambient workouts that first appeared in record stores way back in 2006. It's one of those albums that's arguably best listened to while flat on your back in an intoxicated state, despite the presence of such hypnotic, early morning club workouts as "On The Magic Bus" and the dreamy and delightful "O". You see, the majority of the album's eight tracks are spaced-out in the extreme and all the more alluring for it, as Moufang and Brunn expertly showcase their ability to create impeccable slices of hushed, otherworldly electronic minimalism.

Review: Way back in 1994, David Moufang and Dirk Mantei made their debuts as Move D and D-Man via a now highly regarded collaborative EP. This surprise album brings to the fore material the pair recorded, but for whatever reason never released, back then and at different points in time since. Typically atmoshperic, far-sighted and alluring, the music on show frequently blurs the boundaries between Detroit-influenced techno and sci-fi-seeped deep house. Highlights are plentiful, from the alien-sounding late-night dancefloor psychedelia of 'Colon Ize' and the gently jazzy deep space house of 'Hokuzei', to the tactile, early Larry Heard and UK bleep-influenced excellence of 'Wired To The Mothership 2021' and the sunrise-ready shuffle of 'Luvbyrds'.

Review: Berlin party crew AWAY have made a name for themselves in recent times, finding their niche by pushing the somewhat under-represented sounds of Detroit and hi-tech soul in the German capital. Now into the third release for their fledgling new label, the AWAY Soundsystem appear here (with the banging "Werkzeug") alongside some of the city's more established names such as Greek expat GummiHz on the deeply emotive and dubby tech house of "Far Away" and legend Move D (although he's actually from Heidelberg), whose offering "Stomper" really lives up to its name on this hypnotic, deep techno excursion.

Montytek
Review: Following solo singles for Electric Minds and Curle and the recent Live at Freerotation LP on Workshop as part of Magic Mountain High, Move D adds the Archipel Recordings label to his 2013 profile on this collaborative release with the Montreal-based producer HEAR. "Irene Birth" sees the pair going deep, with a simmering piece of house swathed in dub stabs and glistening textures, with a bassline that rolls gently into the horizon. "Open Spaces" sees the pair bring the vibe up gently with its warm strings, firming up the kick drum but going even more trippy with those alien textures; "Montytek" is a total curve ball, balancing a fast, driving techno rhythm with gently looping synth hypnotics. Another winner from Moufang!

Urgence 1 (9:37)
Urgence 2 (7:19)
Review: Juju & Jordash's imprint Off Minor are back. Their tenth release follows up a great one by Downbeat boss Jose Rico. The Urgence EP features Jordash aka Jordan GCZ in collaboration with the mighty Dave Moufang aka Move D - for the first time since 2015's Live In Seattle album on Further Records. On the A side, we have the blissed out down-tempo groove of "Urgence 1" its sparse and skeletal rhythm patterns, warm bass pulsations and cosmic synth textures awash in a haze of smoke and tape saturation. It is an equally as chilled affair on the flip with "Urgence 2" but it's definitely got more groove and funk about it on this minimalist slow burner that would be perfect to use as a tool; to merge with other tracks or great on its own, or for cool down moments for its sparse and hypnotic effect. Recorded live in Amsterdam.

Hardwired Hypotenuse + Asymptote (12:16)
Review: Away Music's series of Reissued 12"s are a valuable portal into the oceans of music recorded by David Moufang and Pete Namlook through their many years of collaboration. With so much material tucked away on hard to find CDs, it's incredibly helpful having someone sift through and pick out some of the best moments and press them onto a 12". There's a lot to enjoy on this three-tracker, moving from the warm and bubbly house of 'Der Strahlende Verlierer' which bears the hallmarks of classic Move D through to the scuffed, richly detailed electronica of 'Hardwired Tangent' and the dub techno extension of the track, 'Hardwired Hypotenuse + Asymptote'.

Der Strahlende Verlierer (8:29)
Hardwired Tangent (7:25)
Hardwired Hypotenuse + Asymptote (12:16)
Review: A part-posthumous reunion of a longstanding collaboration between two titans of German ambient, Move D and the late Pete Namlook hear three of their most enduring classics reissued via Away Music. Drawing on slightly different traditions - D hailing from sophisti-minimal and Namlook a denizen of the more beatless, heavenly ambient and trance flaunted on his FAX label - the pair almost always produced an unmistakable style together, mired in many-a hazy, padded cloud and modular texture. These hallmarks are on full display here with 'Hardwired Tangent' on particular - what sounds to be an early alt-version of their beautiful compilation cut 'Wear Your Love Out' - while the blissful B-sider 'Hardwired Hypotenuse + Asymptote' stands out as a more mathematical ponderance of ungrounded space.

Silk Route
Sleeplearnin
Review: ***B-STOCK: Torn sleeve, otherwise in excellent working condition***

Move D and the late Pete Namlook recorded a lot of material during the heady years of Fax +49 Records, with some 24 CDs issued up to 2010 and additional singles besides. It's a lot of material to make sense of, but thankfully Away Records have taken up the mantle of providing a filter by means of this series of reissues, which started in 2019 and now returns for a second round. Picking just two tracks this time around, they've chosen two surprisingly energetic tracks from a partnership more commonly imagined traversing vast spaces of ambient electronica. 'Silk Route', pulled from the 2008 album Travelling The Silk Route, is a punchy affair with shifting sands of synths and samples atop a punchy electro-techno rhythm section. On the flip, 'Sleeplearnin' is a masterclass of deep and dubby house music with an abundance of ambient techno flourishes on top - a combination which works beautifully. Collectors rejoice at this red vinyl edition, no less!

Silk Route (12:05)

Review: Of all the many projects tangled up in the late Pete Namlook's mercurial Fax +49 label, his enduring collaborations with Move D were surely some of the finest. Given they managed to commit to over 20 CDs in that time, it's no wonder many have struggled to get to grips with the sheer volume of material on offer. Luckily Away Records are manning a reissue operation which looks through these vast volumes and offers up some of the finest cuts. They last did this back in 2019 and now they're back from round two, picking the low-slung sci-fi electro funk of 'Silk Route' and the dubby ambient house mastery of 'Sleeplearnin' from 2008 and 2006 respectively as the abundant gifts to spoil our ears with.

Der Bergkonig (7:38)
Stranger (16:02)
Review: Between 1996 and 2010, Move D and Pete Namlook recorded 24 collaborative albums, offering up an otherworldly blend of dreamy deep house, hypnotic techno, deep space ambient and jazz-tinged soundscapes. Sadly, none were made available on vinyl, making this EP a must-have. On side A you'll find two cuts from 2001's "Move D/Namlook VI - Live In Heidelberg": the acid-flecked dirty techno hypnotism of "Footer" and the dubbed-out ambient/jazz fusion of "Der Bergkonig". Over on side B there's a chance to enjoy the epic 2010 cut "Stranger", where the pair wrap sampled speech, twinkling pianos and enveloping aural textures around a suitably deep and tactile tech-house groove.

Move D - "Roll Split" (7:23)
Reagenz - "460 Melrose Ave" (9:15)
Review: Since the dawn of the 1990s, David "Move D" Moufang has been one of house and techno's most reliable producers. It's no surprise, then, that this double-header - featuring a solo production, and a fresh collaboration with Jonah Sharp under the long-running Reagenz alias - is pretty darn hot. Moufang's "Roll Split" is a deliciously spacey, emotion-rich and enveloping affair that builds to a head-spinning conclusion via waves of undulating Motor City electronics, tactile riffs, surging bass and intergalactic chords. The Reagenz tune, "460 Melrose Place", is similarly cosmic in outlook, with the veteran duo smothering a superb drum machine groove with stretched out chords, pulsating sub bass, glistening, ambient techno style motifs, and shuffling bongo hits.
