Review: Mr Flagio's 'Take A Chance' is, without doubt, one of the greatest Italo-disco records ever made. Finding copies used to be a bit of a mission, but in recent years we've been treated to numerous useful reissues. This 12" is actually a reissue of a 2015 reissue that pairs the Italian duo's 1983 vocal and instrumental versions - all bubbly, arpeggio-style synth lines, rushing chorus vocals, clipped guitar licks and rubbery bass guitar - with two 21st century rubs by Italoconnection. They deliver a'Re-Edit' in which the original groove comes smothered in tactile, glassy-eyed synth sounds of the sort we most associate with Pet Shop Boys' Chris Lowe and a tougher, darker, more hyonotic 'Rework' that subtly brings the track bang up to date.

Review: There are very few Italo-disco classics that are genuinely quite as good as Mr Flagio's 1983 debut, 'Take a Chance'. It's one of those that you'll have heard out and about plenty of times, with the Italian duo delivering an alluring blend of arpeggio-driven synth-bass, vocoder vocals, sing-along choruses and addictive lead lines. This reissue not only features both of the original vocal and instrumental mixes, but also two new takes from 21st century Italo heroes Italoconnection. They first offer up a rock-solid re-edit that somehow feels fuller and more locked-in than the 1983 mix, before delivering a dirtier, sleazier 'rework' that blends some of the most attractive elements of Mr Flagio's cut with a more driving Italo-disco groove.

Review: Italian Italo disco producers Mr Flagio (the name is taken from the artist's forenames, Flavio and Giorgio) scored big with their debut 1983 hit 'Take A Chance.' It's been a real staple of dance floors ever since and has been reissued many times, but even so still costs a pretty penny on second hand markets. This newly remastered version has it all - the chilly 80s production, crashing hits, pixelated arps and unbridled sense of hope and positivity for the future. All that still rings true even 30 odd years later. The different versions here are all only subtle tweaks, so each one is sure to make an impact on the floor.

Italian Italo disco project Mr Flagio (which stands for Flavio Giorgio after members Flavio Vidulich and Giorgio Bacco) originally released their archetypal, synths heavy disco sounds in 1984. It has been reissued a number of times but always sells out because of the dazzling brilliance of the production. 'Take A Chance' has everything - the crashing hits, cold 80s machine sounds, crystalline arps and surging future bassline, all finished off with a big vocal. The original is presented here alongside an instrumental and two slightly more contemporary remixes from Italoconneciton.
