Review: Produced by Ben Lamdin and Nostalgia 77, this new Game Show LP touches down via Impossible Ark, and the truth is that we're faced with a magnificent blend of outsider sonics that span just about every exotic flavor possible. Featuring Matthew Bourne, the album travels at a gentle pace, meandering gently through placid waves of lo-fi drum machining, and oceanic waves of cool synthesizers. In fact, the best part of this album is characterized by incredible polyphonic flows, intertwining with another to produce something that sounds veritably FRESH. Much like Errorsmith's last LP for PAN, albeit more tranquil in guise, this is a bunch of tunes which nod to something new and exciting - a delicious cocktail of tropical industrialism that sits very well with us. Warmly recommended.

Review: Nostalgia 77 delivers his sixth artist album and, like his previous works, it's instantly engaging. Taking a more contemplative route, it's a whole new side to the accomplished musician. Opening charm comes by way of the sun-kissed folk numbers "What Do You Know" and "Crescent City", both of which set a somewhat hippy motif throughout. Elsewhere we're instantly seduced by the reggae-tinged soul of "Don't Run", the smoky horn fusion of "Medicine Chest" and the raw naked soul of "One". Once again Nostalgia 77 has delivered something truly special. Many may argue this is his best album to date.

Review: As you might expect, multi-instrumentalist and producer Benedic Lamdin's music seems to be improving with each successive album. A Journey Too Far, his fifth under the Nostalgia 77th moniker for regular home Tru Thoughts, is arguably his most deftly produced and emotionally rich album to date. Doffing a cap to his usual influences - jazz, Rotary Connection, soft-focus organic soul - but with a greater emphasis on folksy elements, its 11 tracks ooze loose musicality and pastoral textures from every fluid groove. It also benefits greatly from the presence of German singer Josa Peit, whose strong but fragile vocals provide the album with a strong focal point.

Review: Tru Thoughts stalwart Benedic Lamdin returns with his fourth album for the Brighton-based imprint, and it's arguably his strongest set yet. Rooted in a love of atmospheric jazz and the far-sighted folk-soul fusions of legendary producer Charles Stepney, The Sleepwalking Society is a beautiful and beguiling concoction. Whether offering Cinematic Orchestra-ish instrumental atmospheres ("When Love Is Strange", "Hush"), lazy, lo-slung hip-hop soul ("Simmerdown"), folk-funk grooves ("Sleepwalker") or mournful, string-drenched whimsy ("Cherry"), Lamdin and his merry band of vocalists and players hit the mark with staggering regularity. The results are fragile, cinematic and, above all, wonderfully entertaining.

Review: "Simmerdown" is the first single to be lifted from Ben Lamdin's latest Nostalgia 77 album, entitled The Sleepwalking Society, that comes out this month. Special mention must go to the textured vocals of Josa Peit who delivers a moody, sensuous and earthy performance. On the flipside you'll find a bluesy instrumental with bubbling Hammond organ at the fore which is exclusive to this single.

Review: "Everything Under the Sun" is another example of lush, atmospheric, funky Jazz. The album includes hand picked vocalists such as Lizzy Parks in the unique track "Wildflower", the track that Gilles Peterson immediately picked out as a favourite cut, stating that Nostalgia 77 and Lizzy Parks were "two of my favourite acts of 2006 teaming up." The use of vocalists helps create a beautiful cosmic-tinged jazz album that sounds as much classic, spiritual, Impulse-influenced music as it does Cinematic Orchestra and Koop.

acclaimed song-based album, 'Everything Under The Sun', with featured vocals from Beth
Rowley and Lizzy Parks. This 12" boasts, as the lead track, an exclusive remix of 'Quiet
Dawn' by Bonobo (Ninja Tune and ex-Tru Thoughts), clocking in at an epic and rewarding
7 minutes, and guiding the ear in a distinctly deep direction but with an eye on the dance
floor, calling to mind sun-drenched vibes somewhere between Roisin Murphy & Bjork.

Review: Four years, two solo albums and a handful of great singles since he joined Tru Thoughts in 2002, Benedic Lamdin's Nostalgia 77 project has progressed further than would be fair to expect from a new artist in a decade. From his infamous cover of The White Stripes' hit "Seven Nation Army" (a huge crossover success which recently resurfaced on TV coverage of the 2006 World Cup) to the breathtaking vinyl-only improvised jazz album "The Impossible Equation", Ben's music has always resisted easy categorisation - blurring the boundaries between the underground and mainstream. Initially intended as a live incarnation of his solo project, the success of The Nostalgia 77 Octet on the live circuit soon convinced Ben and his fellow band members to begin writing together. In February 2006, the band locked themselves away for a week in a cottage in the Welsh valleys to rehearse and record their first album of original material - "Borderlands". Inspired by the sounds of funk, soul, gospel and Afro as well as the classic jazz LPs of the 60s and 70s, "Borderlands" captures the warmth and atmosphere of the golden age without compromising Ben's natural flair for tough rhythms and irresistible hooks. Like the records which inspired it, "Borderlands" is a document of the Octet's time in Wales - an impulsive and fiercely inventive album which bridges the divide between tradition and modernity.

Review: Benedic Lambin starts up The Monster machine once again. Well oiled and primed for late night drives on long open roads, Tru Thoughts' jazz auteur takes off where 2012's The Taxidermist left us; forward-thinking, often perplexing jazz that's rich in dynamics, range and creativity. Highlights include the smoky haze of "Apple" the complex twists and turns of the horns in "Thoughts To Geoff" and the absurd funk swing of "Arches". With production duties for Jamie Cullum and his Prince Fatty battle album just months behind us, Measures is a fitting climax to one of N77's most prolific years to date. A bona fide monster.

Review: Released the same week as Mark De Clive Lowe's collaboration album with the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, it's definitely the month for electronic/dance-based acts getting physical with full bands. Here The Taxidermist takes a more free-form approach with different musicians gracing different tunes. The message is the same throughout; soft sonic tremors, sweet surprises and moments of truly unique melody. It's all beautiful, but highlights include the lone trumpet stumbling over strange-signature percussion of "Angels & Demons At Play" and the 70s TV theme tune flavour of "Algernon".

Review: Given that Brighton-based jazz-head Benedic Lamdin has been releasing music as Nostalgia 77 for nearly 16 years, you could argue that this "Best Of" retrospect is long overdue. As a steady stroll through some of his many musical highlights, it's hard to find fault. Certainly, it's great to revisit songs such as "Quiet Dawn" (a deliciously evocative and atmospheric concoction featuring the alluring vocals of Beth Rowley), folksy "Beautiful Lie" and high octane "Seven Nation Army" (one of the superior covers of the White Stripes hit, in our opinion), while Tru Thoughts get extra marks for including both a track from Lamdin's lesser-known Skeletons project (the Afro-beat brilliance of "Positive Force") and the dub-wise skank of his hook-up with Prince Fatty, "Medicine Chest Dub".

Review: Benedic "Nostalgia 77" Lambin and Mike "Prince Fatty" Pelanconi have long been friends, with the latter providing mix-downs and recording advice to the former since 2005. Here, Pelanconi finally gets a chance to deliver his own dubwise interpretations of Lambin's jazz, soul and funk-themed productions. Surprisingly, perhaps, it's a soundclash that works. There's some bold, dancefloor-friendly fare, of course - see the snaking saxophones and shuffling reggae riddims of "Seven Nation Army Dub" and the Afrobeat-meets-King Tubby flex of the almighty "Freedom (Zombie Dance Parts 1&2)" - but the most potent moments are often those that operate at a lower tempo. The formidably sparse and jazzy "Rainclouds Dub" and Mad Professor-ish "Little Steps Dub", in particular, are fantastic.
