Review: There should be more than a few techno fans getting rather excited right now. You see, Donato Dozzy and Nuel's Aquaplano Sessions is something of a "holy grail" for tribal-influenced minimal techno collectors. Originally released over two 12" singles on the short-lived Aquaplano label in 2008 and 2009, the material has long been held in high regard - so much so, in fact, that copies of the original vinyl pressings are extremely hard to find. This reissue from Spectrum Spools is great news for anyone who missed out first time round. While there are some immaculate deeper moments (see the becalmed dreaminess of "Aqua 8"), it's the robust, aggressive, bass-heavy and occasionally intense tracks that really stand out.

Slow To Speak (4:28)
Review: Since parting company with Further Records in 2016, Nuel has drifted between labels. Here, he resurfaces on Berlin-based Midgar following acclaimed outings on Northern Electronics, Semantica, Konstruct and Kontra-Musik. The most impressive thing about the EP - aside from the Italian producer's usual high quality production - is undoubtedly the variety on offer. Over the course of four fine tracks, he successfully turns his hand to skewed electro/broken techno fusion (the skittish, ear-pleasing wonkiness of "Silhouette"), metronomic, acid-flecked deep techno ("The Motivator Song"), druggy deep space techno ("Pause and Reflect") and trippy, metallic, pitched-down hypnotism (the angular melodies and trippy electronics of "Slow To Speak").

Surrender (2:22)
Review: While his full-length excursions on Further have seen Manuel "Nuel" Fogliata explore the furthest reaches of leftfield electronica, his 12" singles largely remain a bastion of thrusting, dark-side techno (with an occasional side order of fizzing electro). This five-track excursion on Kontra is a little more varied in tone and texture, but is still weighed heavily towards the needs of dancefoors. Check, in particular, the rumbling, dub-flecked techno melancholia of "No Wonder", the pitch-black, Donato Dozzy-ish "Replica" and opener "Ballet", a beat-free excursion whose rising and falling melody lines surge forwards at a techno tempo. Elsewhere, "The Swan Song" is a fine chunk of bass-heavy, deep space electro, while "Surrender" is a clandestine slice of dark ambient sludge.

Ambient Computing (5:12)
Blue-ray (6:28)
Caustic (6:31)
Deep Thought (6:03)
Review: Manuel Fogliata is one of Italian techno's most singular artists and deservedly gets lumped in with the modern sound of Rome alongside such greats as Donato Dozzy: whom he's collaborated with as Aquaplano. Not to mention his two acclaimed ambient LPs for the Seattle based Further Recordings, which were deservedly hailed by critics. The Madrid based Semantica imprint is a fitting home for his style of tribal-trance techno, which incorporates hypnotic elements (much like his peers) but with more emphasis on polyrhythms: his niche. A side cut "Blue-Ray" is one such track: a Roman raindance.. if we've ever heard such a thing! On the flip, he's got you covered for droning/tripped-out late night adrenaline on "Caustic" while "Deep Thought" really does rate him up there with legends like Mike Parker or Cio D'or when its comes to conjuring those ghosts in the machine: this is real heady techno geared for some proper 'WTF' moments on the dancefloor. Tip!

Aphrobite (6:09)
Morning Loving (5:27)
M_Animal (4:07)
Review: Fresh from delivering a fine album of experimental electronics for Further Records (the ambient leaning Hyperboreal), Manuel Fogliata pops up Parisian imprint Latency with a pleasingly varied four-tracker. As if to emphasize his techno roots, he begins with something big and heavy - the pulsating rhythm, fluttering deep space electronics and hypnotic dancefloor intensity of "OK Face". Fogliata further proves his techno credentials with the rather brilliant "Morning Loving", a decidedly picturesque chunk of ambient techno that's both danceable, and aesthetically pleasing. Elsewhere, he pauses for a breather via the delay-laden beauty of ambient cut "Aphrobite", and wanders into trippy modular synthesizer territory on the beat-less "M_Animal".

The Rest Is Noise
Review: Having started his musical adventure in the mid-2000s as a maker of atmospheric techno, Manuel "Nuel" Fogliata switched focus in 2011 to deliver a debut album packed with odd downtempo shapes and crackling experimental electronics. This belated follow-up is, if anything, even more unusual, sitting somewhere between creeping drone textures, bleak industrial electronica, otherworldly ambience and dystopian white noise. There is flickering beauty to be found amongst the alien soundscapes - see the grandiose, sharpened drone of "Be Well", and the icy pulse of "Polaris" - but it's largely the more extreme moments that make the album such an intriguing listen.

Review: Nuel aka Manuel Fogliata has been Donato Dozzy's partner in crime on the Aquaplano Sessions project over the last ten years, and he's easily one of Italy's and Europe's greatest when it comes to both hypnotic techno and abstract ambient soundscapes. He's up on America's Further imprint, home to Dozzy's own recent albums, and Hyperboreal is an work of many layers and texture, jumping from rhythmic drone patters such as "Steppin' Stone", to the noisier, more surreal flutters of "Polaris" and onto glacial synth explorations through the title track "Hyperboreal". "The Rest Is Noise" is another work of subtlety and hedonism to bring this sonic whirlpool to a close. Excellent and top of our list.

Double Spacing
Review: The guy from Rimini is here again, now with his best friend Touane (Persona, Dumb Unit, Trenton.) After the successful Charlatan and the great 12" in Dumb Unit (Nuel +Touane) the friendship of the moment comes back with "Pupa", the new fantastic EP for Regular. On the A-side, "Pupa" is a techno minimalistic electro exercise, brilliant and hardly produced, direct to the floor, constant evolution. On the B-side, the remix by Touane is as effective as the original but more funky and crunchy! "Double Spacing" on B2 is the funniest face form Nuel. Deep, tech-minimalistic and brilliant details.

Nuel - "Intarsia" (5:12)
Sam KDC - "Skirmish" (7:49)
Sciahri - "Linfa" (6:26)
Review: Sublunar Records, the label run by Sciahri and Dagdrom, starts 2019 with his tenth re- lease. "Corpora" is a new trilogy project whose elements will see the light throughout the year. Part I involves Nuel, known for his collaboration with Donato Dozzy on the Aquaplano project and author of for two genre defining album on Further Records. His contribution "Intarsia" is a polyrhythmic mixture of ascending synth spirals where every element is tuned for maximum clarity and impact. Then Sam KDC, an integral part of ASC's cutting edge Auxiliary label and regular on Geoff Presha's Samurai and Samurai Horo, comes in with "Skirmish", a ritualistic experience where a memorable melodic figure is surrounded by delicate drum patterns. On the B side cofounder Sciahri releases all the tension with "Linfa", pushing his signature sound into heavy atmospheric disturbances where distorted grooves bounce among skittering bits of percussion.
