Untitled (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: FOTOX 002. Rel: 02 Jul 18
Deep House
  1. ILO - "Everybody" (9:02)
  2. OOFT! - "Howard's Way" (7:09)
Review: Glasgow's Ooft! continues the FOTO-X series on his label with a sure shot 12" that presents two tracks sure to nestle their way into all manner of on-point record bags for many moons to come. First up is iLO who plays the long game with a yearning and burning slice of deep house that starts out stripped and subtle before blossoming into a fully-fledged vocal delight. Ooft! takes care of the B-side with a boogie-tasting get down entitled "Howard's Way" which will get heads nodding and bodies popping to a bassline that calls to mind Evelyn King's much loved "I'm In Love" low end destroyer.

  4. Not In Love
  5. Intricacies Of Modern Life
  6. Let Yourself Go
  7. Uptown Haze
  8. World Keeps Turning
  9. The Big C
  10. Love Shock
Review: Ooft! has been plenty busy over the years, both as an artist and label manager, and so it seems crazy that it's taken up until now for him to release his debut album. Whatever the case, the wait for Intricacies Of Modern Life has been well worth it, as the FOTO Recordings main man lets his imagination run wild in all the most fruitful corners of the deep house spectrum. There are bombastic moments like "Proteus Maximus", low slung Balearic chuggery a la "DSRV", peppy Motor City-flavoured beatdowns like "Keep On Pushin" and plenty more besides. Favouring the heady, warm up mood over anything too peak time, this is a record to be savoured like a fine wine.

Disco/Reediciones
  1. Trujillo - "Midnight Plane" (6:27)
  2. The Silver Rider - "Crown Royal" (6:38)
  3. OOFT! - "Don't Go Near Water" (6:24)
  4. P-SOL - "Set Me Free" (7:08)
Review: As with previous Wall of Fame releases, Night Shift is an all-star affair, with a quartet of producers each delivering a track that blurs the boundaries between re-edits, remixes and original production. Trujillo kicks things off with the gentle nu-disco breeze of "Midnight Plane", where soft-focus disco beats and eyes-closed pianos are joined by an undulating electronic bassline and reheated chords. The Silver Rider dives into filter-heavy disco-house territory on the bumpin' "Crown Royal", while Ooft recruits Highlife/Huntleys & Palmers man Esa Williams for the deep disco meets deep house warmth of EP highlight "Don't Go Near Water". Finally, P-Sol necks a fist-load of happy pills and reclines with a pile of lazy, sun-kissed jazz-funk records on the sleepy "Set Me Free".
