  4. Michael Zucker - "YHWH" (6:15)
Review: Finale Sessions continues to fly the flag for the freshest variations on deep techno with a distinct Detroit flavour, and now the label is celebrating five years of operations with a split release that calls upon some label regulars to turn out the goods. Luke Hess is up first with the dynamic whipcrack dub techno pulse of "Deliverer", while Patrice Scott continues his fine run of form with the meditative "Future Funk". Basic Soul Unit meanwhile strikes the balance between experimentation and immersion with the sharp-angled yet soothing "Torn Satin", and then label boss Michael Zucker drops a punchy but poignant offering in the shape of "YHWH".

  1. Reborn Goodness
  2. They’re Up To Something
  3. She’s Jazzy
Review: The highly regarded Sounds Of The City label makes a welcome return after promising 12"s from Brian Harden, Walt J, Kai Alce and Javontte amongst others. This time around they've called upon Detroit house royalty Patrice Scott to lay down some delicate, refined deep house loaded with that all important Motor City soul. "Reborn Goodness" is quintessential Scott, riding a steady cruising groove and laying down honey coated keys, while "They're Up To Something" nudges in a more spacious kind of soulful house music that wouldn't sound out of place in Rick Wade's repertoire. "She's Jazzy" finishes the EP off with a snappy, stomping jam that stands out as one of the best on the 12".

  1. Movin In (6:48)
  2. Come Inside (6:07)
  3. Are You Conscious? (4:07)
Review: Patrice Scott's third and final solo EP of 2018 is packed to the rafters with high-grade material. Perhaps most notable is A-side "Movin In", a fluid, funk-fuelled affair bristling with jazzy electric piano motifs, swinging, New Jersey garage influenced drums, liquid synth bass and some decidedly Larry Heard style musical flourishes. Over on side B, the long-serving Detroiter layers sumptuous jazz-funk synths and jazzy analogue bass over a sweaty deep house beat on "Come Inside", before showcasing his hip-hop style beat-making skills on the beautiful, deep-as-an-ocean head-nodder "Are You Conscious?". In a word: superb.
