Review: Eskimo comes up with its first artist album. Hans Peter Lindstrom and Thomas Hermansen (aka Prins Thomas) provide us with lush basslines, sublime melodies and rolling rhythms.

Review: Prins Thomas and Belgian label Eskimo have form when it comes to the epic mix CD, the pair combined to classic effect on the Cosmo Galactic Prism back in 2007, but they've really outdone themselves with Paradise Goulash. We do not envy the Eskimo employees tasked with licensing all 57 (count 'em) on this triple disc set which fully confirms Prins Thomas as a master of joining the dots between multiple corners of the cosmic cosmos. Described as "a gentle wander within the musical mind of the Prins," Paradise Goulash of course takes its name from Larry Levan's Paradise Garage and unfolds into one of the most mind-bogglingly good mixes you will hear this year.

As the title suggests, Paradise Goulash is a tribute to famous New York venue Paradise Garage. It comprises three discs, each with its own distinct sound. The first is the most retro-leaning, featuring cuts from defunct groups like Brian Bennett Band and Mistral, along with experimental selections from Sun Araw and The Durian Brothers. Disc two takes the techno route courtesy of tracks by Pev & Kowton, Robert Hood and Abdulla Rashim, while the final part weaves through work from Morphosis, Ricardo Villalobos and Marcellus Pittman.

"The music contained within is a willfully diverse collection of music that I hope you'll find pleasing to your ears," Prins Thomas says. "Much like a bowl of goulash, not all the ingredients might be to your liking. It is undeniably more rustic roadside tavern than refined dining but I hope you already trust me behind the pots and pans."
