Review: Rushmore is Matthew Thomas, who some of you may know from the East London party House Of Trax and the affiliated label Trax Couture label. The many styles presented as part of the club night are channeled with thrill and cohesion on this debut House of Trax album, ballroom and grime via hip hop; the Teklife crew as much as an influence as '90s hip hop and rap. However, the label state this is an album less concerned with the dancefloor and more one can enjoy in an afterhours situation - hence the title perhaps? Featuring a raft of collaborations with Trax Couture associates, Ours After is a fine debut from House of Trax.

Deep House
  1. Dance Show
  2. Drop Top
  3. Run II
  4. Throwback
Review: There's nothing subtle about the work out London-based DJ and all-round man of mystery Rushmore. This third EP - his first for DJ Haus' Hot Haus imprint - continues in a similar vein to his first two outings for Trax Couture. That means a tough, raw blend of ghetto-tech, revivalist acid house, footwork and sub-bothering bass-house. Choose between the jacking rhythms, thunderous kick drums and Armando-ish rave stabs of "Dance Show" and "Drop Top", a cracking, in-your-face DJ tool built around footwork style handclaps, warped sub-bass and relentless drum machine cymbals. Neither track is particularly clever, but both are most certainly big.

HOT 002 (limited hand-numbered 12")
Cat: HOT 002. Rel: 12 Dec 13
Bass
  1. Bloodlines
  2. Jumpshot
  3. Turn It On
  4. Bitch, Please
Review: Ballroom badness with bass-bitten distinction, Trax Coulture celebrates the very roots of house music with contemporary production glee. At the helm is Londoner Rushmore who's already enjoyed acclaimed with the label debut "Hot 001" Here he treats us to an array of raw groove ingredients; "Bloodlines" fuses elements of late 90s 4/4 garage with classic Chicago jack and "Jumpshot" is a more fractured exploration of the 808 hinterland. "Turn It On", meanwhile, is a booty-slapping ghetto-tech stomper with unrelenting fervour and "Bitch Please" sounds like Ron Hardy making sweet love to a bleep machine. Beautifully crude.

Cat: HOT 001. Rel: 27 Feb 13
Bass
  1. 3000
  2. Low Slung
  3. Harder
  4. Couture
Review: Trax Couture is the new record label from Fools & Rushmore, a duo responsible for the House Of Trax and Rhythm Talk nights which are two of the best parties London has seen in recent memory. Previous headliners at House Of Trax and Rhythm Talk parties have included Grime originator Slimzee, ballroom star Mike Q, ghetto tech king DJ Assault and Night Slugs boss Bok Bok and this appreciation of dance music regardless of genre clearly feeds into the sounds of Trax Couture on the basis of this debut release from Rushmore. Lead track "3000" sets the tone on an acid filled juke flex which somehow drops from 150bpm to 128bpm with artful subtlety. "Low Slung" adopts a similar juke referencing pose and is a much more aggressive production, whilst "Harder" demonstrates Rushmore has been paying keen attention to Mike Q's production style - check the killer Andre 3000 vocal sampling! Final track "Couture" offers the most all encompassing example of Rushmore's influences occupying the sweat filled crawlspace between juke, ballroom and booty house.

  2. Rushmore - "Highroad Works" (3:50)
  3. Imaabs - "Grafito" (4:09)
  4. Imaabs - "That Joint" (3:29)
  5. Sylvere - "Industrial Roving" (5:01)
  6. Sylvere - "Sanctuary VIP" (6:18)
  7. Dreams - "Terraform" (5:01)
  8. Dreams - "Black Fact" (4:58)
Review: World Series is a new LP length endeavour from Trax Couture which pits four artists closely associated with the label operated by London party types House of Trax - expect a mangled array of house, ballroom, grime and techno. It's undoubtedly their most ambitious release to date and the eight cuts here suggest it will be a most potent series going forwards. HOT main man Rushmore leads the onslaught with two banging productions that highlight his versatility as a producer - "Its Me" is electro flecked ghetto house whilst "Highroad Works" is finger snapping ballroom supremacy. From here, Imaabs, Sylvere, and Dreams all excel too with the high pressure "Sanctuary VIP" a real stand out.
