Review: Rockets Audio return with the second part of their stunning two-part compilation 'As Above So Below', which collects the best of the Berlin label's exploits in minimal techno. Four artists - Alessio Mereu, Doubtingthomas, Max Jacobson & Metheiu, Satoshi Tomiie - lay down heaters ranging from the obtuse to the kaleidoscopic in mood, yet all seem to elicit subconscious motor responses in the listener.

Review: It's some 26 years since Satoshi Tomiie announced his arrival via the brilliant Tears single with Robert Owens, and 16 since he released his only album, 1999's impressively eclectic Full Lick. New Day, then, is long overdue. While rooted in deep house - see the sensual vocal outing that doubles as the title track - the album's blend of bold synthesizer lines, crunchy electronic instrumentation and analogue drumbeats has more in common with Metro Area than the booming, mid-90s progressive house for which he was once renowned. It's a hugely enjoyable set, all told, with the shuffling, Balearic-influenced house of "Thursday, 2am" standing out.

Review: That house legend we all know as Satoshi Tomiie is coming through with his long overdue second album any time soon so it's only right that he'd put out a tasty sampler to get your taste buds going! "Thursday, 2AM" and "0814" are the chosen cuts, the former being totally freaked-out, utterly bumping floor sweeper with a full-bodied low-end and the latter is a filter-heavy-flanger-banger with dicey percussion. On the remix duties we have two legends: Ron Trent who turns in some of his deep, ethereal magic and DJ Sneak who delivers his inimitable 'skip' house style in a dubby mood. It's a pretty special package and it comes heavily recommended.

Review: Satoshi Tomiie is a legend who has been there since day one, crafting tunes with the earliest Chicago legends. Now the Japanese maestro links up with Rintaro for the ninth release with a classy three tracker. 'Ushimitsudoki' is a warm, dubby house jam that has plenty of subtle details and stabs over a catchy groove, while 'Whimusical' is just that - a catchy tune that is dreamy and aloof as the rubber kicks and crisp claps draw you in deep. The best of the lot might be the heady acid workout the is 'What Pressure', though. A real classic.

Review: The Holic Trax five year anniversary celebrations continue with this essential grip of tracks from Satoshi Tomiie and Tuccillo. "Do It" leads the charge with a focused slice of tech house that rides its addictive hook incessantly, albeit with plenty of playful tones darting around the mix for added decoration. "What Row" is a more crafty cut with a finely chiselled bassline and some nagging hats to die for, and then "To Ray" finishes the EP off with a much rawer approach. Here the drum machines spit at the front of the mix and the synth parts wobble with a live flavour that really stands out on this 12".
