A1 People - "Do It" (Metamatics remix)
Kosmogonik - "Circuitry"
Silicon Scally - "Relay"
Matt Chester - "November Pathways"
CiM - "Recursive"
Review: Since Zip and Villalobos made it one of their coveted deep digs to be heard pealing out of a thousand after hours sessions, the Metamatics remix of A1 People has been a teasingly out of reach dream grab for many a minimal electro head. Now Yossi Amoyal has done the good deed of getting the track remastered and repressed as part of his Fluere series toasting 15 years of Sushitech. As well as that masterclass of elegant machine funk, there's also Kosmogonik's mind-bendingly brilliant 'Circuitry', Silicon Scally's body-popping electro-noir 'Relay' and Matt Chester's melancholic 'November Pathways' to keep your up-all-night marathon sets peppered with spangled surprises.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Carl Finlow is something of a cult hero in the British electronic underground, having turned his hand to many aliases and styles without pandering to hype, and that's surely why the discerning For Those That Knoe label have deemed him worthy of a showcase release. His works as Silicon Scally are a particular highlight, channeling the seediest streams of Detroit electro and injecting a little of that UK verve and swagger into the mix, with invariably stunning results. Watch out for the seductive bite of "Dark Matter" and the dystopian funk of "Deep Dissolve", but in truth every selection on this choice double pack is worthy of some serious platter time.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Carl Finlow is one of the great unsung heroes of British electronic music, with a raft of aliases and projects that burst with inventive production, warmth and a sense of fun that so much slickly produced techno and electro misses. For Those That Knoe are doing the right thing in gathering together some choice cuts from over the years - the Voice Stealer jams in particular stand out with their miscreant tones and overall uneasy atmosphere tapping into the malaise of the darker Drexciya-related output. There are all shades of electro to be enjoyed on here though, and hopefully it'll place Finlow on the radar for a few more heads.

Morphology - "Conductive Force" (6:22)
Morphology - "Inversium Layer" (5:48)
Silicon Scally - "Iridium" (6:22)
Silicon Scally - "Das Haus" (6:23)
Review: Freshly minted electro label Innerspace has recruited some serious talent for their first release. On the A-side you'll find a pair of tracks from experienced Finnish twosome Morphology: the wild and psychedelic acid-electro romp that is "Conductive Force", and the outer-space-on-LSD madness of the similarly impressive, if a little more becalmed, "Inversion Layer". Electro survivor Carl Finlow handles the flipside, once again donning the Silicon Scally alias he first used way back in 1998. He begins by unfurling a pitch-perfect, Drexciya-inspired chunk of hustling deep space electro, before opting for a darker, tougher, acid-flecked sound on the electro body-jacker "Das Haus". As you'd expect, both are superb.

Review: Central Processing Unit welcomes back Silicon Scally for some reined and emotive robot music in the form of this Soft Robotics EP. This is of course an alias of Carl Finlow who is a master of making his machines sing with a sense of human realness. He pushes the boundaries once more here with four precision tooled cuts that come with plenty of vintage synth flourishes and thudding basslines. Bubbling melodies define each of the cuts as well as a cinematic sense of atmosphere that really takes you somewhere.

Review: A dystopian barrage of mechanoid electro soundscapes comes courtesy of Silicon Scally, a new, scathing alias alias of rather legendary UK music producer Carl Finlow, best known as 20:20 Vision. Inspired by the oncoming anxiety of a technological hell (trust us, we all feel it, Carl), it's either join the AI death cult or die, as a straight 60+ minutes of generative electro stabbery and post-neural warpings make the entire project sound like a supernatural server processing vast numeric quantities of infectious bytes.

Across the nine tracks featured on the Field Lines album, you have typically precise sci-fi beats ('Receptors'), imaginary future soundtracks ('Empty Hallways'), Toulon-Detroit connections ('Inhibitor') as well as the sounds of outer space transmissions ('Submerged') and the sounds of alien intergalactic warfare on the epic 'Static Fire'.

Proton Mass (6:15)
Centronix (6:02)
Axiom (6:55)
Cascade Lasers (6:14)
Review: Carl Finlow has been a prominent name in UK electro since the mid-90s, releasing music at an astonishing rate under a variety of monikers. Silicon Scally defines his most strictly electro-oriented project, reflective of the Kraftwerk era and the emerging electro-scene, with releases on respected labels such as Cultivated Electronics, CPU and of course 20/20 Vision, with music from a variety of Carl's monikers being amongst the labels earliest releases.

'Crushed' is a sought after album project originally self-released on Finlow's Bandcamp during the 2020 lockdown. We felt the release was to important to be overlooked without a much deserved run of vinyl, so have pressed a limited run of records featuring futuristic electro highlights and the best unreleased cuts.

'Proton Mass' kicks things off with perfectly crafted robotic funk, solid mechanical breaks and mind bending glitches, setting the landscape for a journey into the abyss with Silicon Scally unshakeably at the helm. 'Centronix' follows up with razor-sharp rocking beats, squelchy bass and jarring grooves as if designed for high pace no nonsense club sets from the likes of DJ Stingray or Helena Hauff.

On the flip side 'Axiom' takes us deeper into the void with dark basslines, complex drums and unapologetically disorientating frequencies. A track that makes us question if Finlow has transcend to a future state where he is more machine than man, sending psychoactive messages in the form of killer electro cuts.

'Cascade Lasers' wraps up this epic dose of electro with interstellar energy, driving things home with deep bass wobbles, high octane breaks, wrapped grooves and tormenting yet playful synth licks. Yet another release that has us convinced the late great Andrew Weatherall was indeed correct!

"For quite a number of years now I have been convinced that Mr Finlow is a conduit for musical transmissions beamed from a parallel universe, sometime in the future" - Andrew Weatherall.

Review: Is there any label that has had more say in the direction of contemporary electro than Sheffiled's nearly 10 year old Central Processing Unit? This latest missive comes from the France based UK veteran Carl Finlow under his Silicon Scally alias. It comes three years after his debut on the label and features his usual twisted mix of rugged arps, mangled bass and glistening electro pads. He even remixes one of his own tracks to give it a different spin, while Fleck ESC remixes the other original into a dark and deep classic.

Review: Sheffield's Central Processing Unit has become a key home for Silcion Scally, the most prolific of all the aliases of Carl Finlow. This is his third outing on the label and another high class affair that ploughs fresh electro ground. Opener 'V Electro' has a dark bassline and super crisp drums. There is a much more unhinged mood to 'Bode,' a jam with ADHD and multiple personalities. 'Proximity Sensor' is the sound of the computers taking over, with squelchy bass and jittery grooves, while 'Dormant' closes with a dystopian atmosphere and layer upon layer of intergalactic energy all vying for attention.

Review: British legend Carl Finlow has always explored the darker, deeply charged realms of electro as Silicon Scally and he's feeling more dystopian than ever on this fierce four tracker for Sheffield's Central Processing Unit. Following up last years' terrific Projections EP, prepare to go deep underground on the brooding and cinematic drama of "Cobalt Blue", only to resurface once more on a serene note on the charming Kraftwerk influence of "Scintillation". On the flip, he's back to the program on the booming electro bass epic "Asynchronous" while the futuristic tension and suspense of "Protocol 2" closes out another fine effort by the genre's finest producers.

Review: One of the by-products of the recent electro revival is the increased intetrest in the work of long-serving British producer Carl Finlow. Late last year, he donned the familiar Silicon Scally alias to perform a show of new material at London's long-running Scand party. Live at Scand presents straight-to-tape "live" studio versions of the same tracks, stretching the eight tracks across two slabs of wax. Naturally, it's a thrill-a-minute ride from start to finish. Check, for example, the snappy beats, meandering pads and psychedelic acid lines of "Chrysonite", the similarly mind-altering electro hum of "Fervidium" and the no-holds-barred madness of closer "Omegon", which is a much more wild and robust affair than some of its predecessors. In three words: peerless electro goodness.

Review: A blistering 4-track EP of remixes from electro don The Wee DJ's of Carl A Finlow (aka Silicon Scally) who has become something of a seal of quality on electro music since his entrance onto the scene over 10 years ago. Although electro doesn't have the following it used to, Finlow's unbeatable mix of classic electro attitude and modern sounds and skills has found him legions of fans across the globe. The mysterious Wee DJs is a more difficult character to pin down, but over the course of countless collectable singles and more recently an album for Andrea Parker's Touchin' Bass imprint he has built up a loyal band of followers eager for more twisted electroid experiments. His dancefloor murdering styles have wooed fans of old school electro and modern electronica alike, and now he's turned his hand to re-wiring the best Carl A Finlow has to offer, picking tracks from the peerless 'Mr Machine' album and some that might be a little less known. Rather than merely edit though, The Wee DJs man has decimated the original tracks leaving only a stray bassline or odd melody that might give you reference, the rest is purely his own creation; dark and confusing beat structures, heavy-as-you-like low end and the all important wasp-like buzzing leads giving you more than enough to lay waste to the dancefloor. One of the finest electro EPs to pass through these parts for some time now, you won't want to miss the meeting of minds of two of the scene's finest sons.

Review: Cultivated Electronics brings us a fine selection of some of the most talented electro masters around. First up, Silicon Sally introduces their liquid-like synth growls on "Deodexed", a track that's liable to hurt both the mind and the soul, while Boris Divider is on "Primary Functions", a wonderfully stripped-back affair. The flip sees Sync24 and Deixis in "Haunted World", a frightening expose of sparse bleeps and mutant FX. It's up to Morphology to close things off with "Dark Star", whose alignment of spacey chords and chilling basslines is almost too much to bear...

Review: Following the success of the masterfully selected series of 4 volumes - "Over The Counter Culture" - this one off special features four remixes of the 80s pop classic 'Fame' and was inspired by the much sought after 'Wee Killed Him EP' by The Wee DJs, released in 1999 on SCSI AV, which featured it's very own 'Fame' remix. This latest EP is made up of remixes by Silicon Scally (Carl Finlow), Bass Kittens, Volum and a new updated mix by The Wee DJs. These four interpretations bring deep nasty basslines and beats to smash dance floors worldwide and show 'Fame' at its darkest. With the A side ranging from Silicon Scally's stylistic sound, which brings a determined and involving electro mix, to The Wee DJs broken, dark melodic bass filled second version of this classic track. The B side continues the theme with Volum's own solid, floor driven, twisted and glitchy take and finally Bass Kittens brings his cheeky 808 San Francisco breaks sound smashing in to end this EP with a bang.

Review: Philip Bolland aka Sync 24 and Carl Finlow aka Silicon Scally are two mainstays of the UK electro scene, and together they've set the bar high for both contemporary bass producers and newcomers. They're up on the legendary Cultivated Electronics with four devious slices of neuronal funk, starting with the underwater mysticism of "Jack Out", which is swiftly followed by the molecular sonics of the dystopian "Sine Vibes". On the B-side, there's two cuts to "Clickjacking", the first being a cold, metallic electro swinger tagged as the 'vox edit', and the second a much warmer, more uplifting 'dub edit'. Pure electro nastiness.
