Review: Crimean label Krym Mryk returns with its sophomore release: a Various Artists collection putting the spotlight on several top musicians from Russia and Ukraine as well as a few newcomers to the scene. Highlights come fast and thick throughout; we're particularly loving the grinding cyclicality of Rim Menko's "Illusion", beatless yet hypnotic arpeggio workouts ("Amb Day Out" and "November Bad") by Pavel Milyakov (Buttechno), man of the hour Stanislav Tolkachev with slow-mo entrancer "While You Are Drawing A Butterfly" and Hoavi's "Aya Horizon", which closes the LP with its sublime ambience.

  7. Inigo Kennedy - "Dust-point" (5:38)
Review: Spanish techno veteran Christian Wunsch has decided to celebrate the 50th release on his esteemed Tsunami Records by bringing together some techno luminaries on a single release entitled 'The Future is Fixed'. From British legends such as Surgeon, who harks back to his House Of God residency on the sound of "Invisible Enemy", Blueprint's James Ruskin is in fine form on the hypnotic stomp of "The Lake", and Steve Bicknell (Lost) on the strobe-lit tunnel vision of "Deeper Shades Of Grey". Elsewhere, Ukrainian producer Stanislav Tolkachev delivers his idiosyncratic style of techno as always on "Once A Cheater Always A Cheater" and obviously label chief Wunsch appears too, collaborating with the mighty Regis as The Rare Breed - who deliver the contorted fury of "Reason Doesn't Sleep".

  3. The Transhumans - "Hipnomancer" (5:39)
  4. Dan Bohler - "Program & Control" (5:04)
Review: Having built up a following over five years via their popular podcast series, Spain's Archaic crew has decided to launch a label. Their first missive is a multi-artist, compilation style affair that should find its way into the record boxes of some serious techno DJs. Experienced Ukrainian producer Stanislav Tolkachev hands side A, first delivering the mind-altering peak-time throb of "Sustainability #1" - all restless distorted bass, locked-in drum machine beats and sharp, undulating electronic lead lines - before creating an intoxicating mood via the angular modular motifs and cyclical acid flashes of wonky workout "Sustainability #2". Berlin-based Spanish duo The Transhumans offer up a punchy peak-time techno throb-job rich on minor key riffs and increasingly wayward electronics, while Dan Bohler's "Program and Control" will batter you into submission via Surgeon-esque beats, industrial noises and metallic percussion hits.
