Review: Since launching in 2016, Mr Bongo's Record Club compilation series has provided three essential volumes of personal favourites - many obscure and hard-to-find - selected by the label's in-house team of crate-digging DJs. Volume four is naturally every bit as essential as its' predecessors, offering an enticing mixture of Brazilian, African, soul, funk and disco with not a suspect selection in sight. Review: Never one for understatement, Giggs claims to be a living legend in the title track of his latest long player, and you'd have to agree. Being the Metropolitan Police's most hated, effectively being banned from playing live, seems to have only spread his legend further, and with this, his classiest sounding release to date, it will only grow. Review: Here's hoping you've got your super-weird hat on. As the title of this latest Soul Jazz compilation suggests, the tracks on here are anything but by numbers and cross so many genre lines it often becomes impossible to differentiate between the rock and electronic bits, simultaneously teaching us all something about the connectivity of everything, and how real creativity has never been siloed by style.
Of course the likes of 'Guten Abend, Leute' by Deutsche Wertarbeit are firmly in the synth end of things, a building track that uses phaser noises and accordions to create something that could definitely work on today's dancefloors. And next on the list, 'Wolf City' by Amon Duul II, is a strange rock brew of post punk and jazz. But elsewhere work such as 'Pink Sails' by Klauss Weiss, 'Ballet Statique' from Conrad Schnitzler and the heartbreakingly beautiful pianos of Roedelius' 'Halmharfe' make differences harder to identify.

Review: When disco started to fade in the late seventies and early '80s, subtle - and not-so subtle - mutations started emerging from New York studios. According to the compilers behind this essential collection, Spring Records and its Posse offshoot were at the forefront of this movement, a movement that effectively paved the way for NYC's later garage and house sounds. While this version of history can be debated, there's no doubting the quality of the boogie, electrofunk, freestyle, proto-house and early US garage cuts included on the collection. Across both sides of wax are unreleased tracks and new mixes by label favourites, all of whom offer up a new school mix of contemporary disco funk complete with spaced out synths, go slow jams and cosmic vibes. The whole thing is an easy to love collection of tracks that work as well on a lazy Sunday as they do a sun-kissed Saturday afternoon terrace. Kutkorners conjuring authentic disco magic with their cut 'The Finest', while Shiro Schwarz's 'Exoplanet Love' is particularly smoochy with its whispery vocals squelchy boogie bass. Review: Italo-Disco, (at times abbreviated as Italo) is a music genre which originated in Italy and was mainly produced from the late 1970s to the late 1980s. The origin strongly tied to marketing efforts of the ZYX record label, which began licensing and marketing the music outside Italy in 1982. The genre faded in the early 1990s.
Italo disco evolved from the then-current dance music (including hi-NRG) and developed into a diverse genre. The genre employs drum machines, synthesizers, occasionally vocoders and usually sung in English.
This compilation contains some of the long lost tracks of the genre restored for the first time on CD. Vivien Vee "Remember" and Capricorn "I Need Love," are early work by Italian pioneer Claudio Simonetti (Goblin).
