Anomalia Magnetica Del Atlantico Sur EP

Techno
Apologias Del Futuro (6:46)
Ars Magma (6:15)
Fonky (6:51)
Abrazo De Oso (7:11)
Review: Just like the label's well-regarded debut last summer, this second salvo from Amorfo is a group effort. What Luis Malon, Bruno Di Paolo, Z@p, Digregorius and Guillermo Miranda collectively served up is impressive, with four varied cuts jostling for dancefloor domination. Our highlight is probably opener "Apologias Del Futuro", a pleasingly heavy and melodious fusion of bumpin' beats, heavy sub bass, Detroit Techno chords, wiggling acid lines and funk-fuelled synth solos. There's plenty to admire elsewhere across the EP too, from the deep, angular and intergalactic electro-acid swing of "Ars Magma", to the psychedelic electronics, rumbling analogue bass and off-kilter beats of "Abrazo De Oso".

TC80 - "Exile" (5:44)
Abstract Tune - "1996 Shoots" (5:37)
Audri - "Acid Rain" (5:11)
Omar - "Techno Victims" (5:29)
Z@p - "Different Ways" (7:12)
Review: Since launching last year, the Opia label has yet to put a foot wrong, serving up two must-have 12" singles full of quality cuts from rising stars and scene stalwarts. The label's latest compilation style offering is equally as good. TC80 has the honour of kicking things off via the bubbly acid lines, stomping beats and gentle synth melodies of "Exile", before Abstract Tune joyously joins the dots between bleep techno and dreamy deep house on the rich positivity of "1996 Shoots". Audri's "Acid Rain" is a raw and intense jack-track, while Omar's "Techno Victims" a bustling, minor key electro box jam. Rounding things off is Z@p, whose excellent "Different Ways" sits somewhere between early Motor City Techno and 1990s British tech-house.

Frank 717
Review: Z@p has been part of the Uruguayan techno revolution for several years, making his mark over here in Europe and in turn sending a spotlight back to his homeland. This time out he lands on the Montevideo Electric Recordings label with four more of his stylish and deep cuts. 'Submarino' kicks off with slow, sludgy electronics and before thumping kicks drive things onwards beneath skewed acid. 'Sensations' is a more bouncy affair with a rising tension that hurries you along and keeps you on edge before 'The Box' blends acid and minimal into an impactful arrangement that never lets up. 'Frank 717' rounds out with the most punchy kicks and sleek synths of all.

Inyourmind (5:21)
TKR (7:10)
Crudencio (8:54)
Falso Verano (7:14)
We Hear (6:44)
Reminiscencia (7:46)
Review: Fernando Zapico remains a versatile and vital mainstay of Argentinian electronic music, moving from his roots in minimal into an adventurous electro realm for Nicolas Lutz's My Own Jupiter label. This double pack offers Zapico ample space to explore his sound, favouring a machine-centric sound driven by full-bodied synth lines with a moody slant. 'TKR' is a brooding slice of electro loaded with tension, while 'Crudencio' conjures up a kind of playful dungeon techno atmosphere, if you can imagine such a thing. Full of expression and exploring with glee, this is a fine addition to the accomplished Z@p catalogue.

Cuesta La Vuelta (6:11)
Tunel (7:58)
ATL 2 (Eagle mix) (6:11)
In The Back (6:06)
Review: Z@P, not to be confused with the equally excellent by stylistically different Zip, is a
Phonotheque resident and label mainstay. For almost 15 years he has been turning out killer sets and tunes that have put his hometown on the map. This new EP finds him in good form as he continues to explore the outdoor edges of the dance floor. 'Cuesta La Vuelta' is all blurting machines and squelchy bass filters. 'Tunel' is a trippy mind maze in which to get lost and then the industrial late-night tech of 'ATL2 (Eagle mix)' is pure afterparty tackle. The most experimental of the lot is the off-balance 'In The Back.'

Techno
Tracid (8:05)
That Break (7:14)
Acid Rhytms (7:06)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Uruguay's finest house and techno export Z@p continues his welcome return to active service - at the freakier end of the scene - with this spot on Cartulis Music. "Tracid" has a clue in its title, and it doesn't take long to detect the brazen 303 baiting taking place through the core of this peppy workout. It's an effective weapon used in just the right way that should get bodies wriggling with approval. "That Break" meanwhile diverts into a kind of braindance territory with the titular drums matched with more wobbly synth leads and spooked out pads, and then "Acid Rhytms" rounds the EP off with a more reflective cut for calmer moments in the dance.

Sendas EP
Sendas EP (12")
Cat: TRAFFIC 010. Rel: 31 Mar 17

Minimal/Tech House
Sendas (7:15)
Basement (6:30)
S&T (8:44)
PTN2 (5:02)
Review: Fernando 'Z@p' Zapico returned to action last year after a near seven-year absence, delivering the rather good Sonic Utopia EP on Melliflow. Here, his revival continues via a four-track EP on Traffic. He starts confidently, fusing vintage bleep techno motifs, heavy bass and off-kilter tech-house rhythms on "Sendas". The track that follows, "Basement", is a darker and slightly more angular late night workout, while "S_t" sees the Uruguayan show off his collection of vintage synths and drum machines. Closer "PTN2" is a foreboding and slightly creepy affair, with ghostly chords and IDM style electronics tumbling down over a pitched-down electro groove.

Z@p - "For Noiah" (6:36)
Z@p - "Mind Manifesto" (6:28)
Stonem - "Cartografias"
Stonem - "Asociacion Libre"
Review: Z@P and Stonem, both hailing from Uruguay, team up for a fresh and futuristic of the sonic character of their local acid techno scene. As functional and utilitarian as the robotized music heard therein is the name 'Split #1', which indeed shows that this is an EP flaunting two tracks by each artist; Z@P's tracks are groovier, funkier and more alkaline, opting for the sounding like the inner bloopings of a robotic mechsuit. Stonem's tracks deeper and more expansive by contrast, working in more arpeggiations and dramatic accompaniments, as if to suggest our protagonist has exited the mechsuit and confronted the dystopia of their now wartorn world.
