  8. Phantom (3:30)
Review: Besides his love for giving his releases sequential numerical titles and his ability to whip up some serious moods with minimal ingredients, still little is known about this Buttery Fred but when the music sucks you in as much as this, it's really not a problem. Taking elements of jungle, electro, hip-hop and techno and deconstructing them around super spacious beats, he's created a unique sound in a busy scene. Highlights on this third annual LP collection include the strangely Photekian "Sub Dynastee", the jazzy soul of "Zepta" and the graveyard tip-toeing creepy climax "Phantom". Greasy.

Review: Florence born Cristiano Crisci is Clap! Clap! , and he has musical roots that date back to the mid-90s when he was a rapper. Later came a love of jazz and punk and time in the Trio Cane and by 2008 he was working solo. Clap! Clap! is a project that saw him bring Afro samples to the mix along with club driven drum programming and now his third album on Black Acre shows off this energetic style, but infused with plenty of thoughtful acoustic sounds and lush synths that drip like water. The tracks are lush and humid like a steamy jungle and worldly references abound throughout.

Review: It was arguably 2007 debut LP "Underwater Dancehall" - still one of the greatest dubstep albums of all time - that made Tectonic co-founder Pinch one of British bass music's most celebrated talents, so this solo sequel is long overdue. Much has changed in UK bass - and his life - since then, and "Reality Tunnels" reflects that. Much more widescreen in approach and sound, it sees him flit between vocal grime and dubstep, 21st century jungle mutations, future dub, ambient soundscapes, deconstructed dancehall and - most surprisingly of all - weighty, bass-heavy, Bristol style techno. Some fans may be surprised at the decidedly different directions, but it all makes perfect sonic sense - after all, British bass music has long been about more than just dubstep and D&B.

Review: For its second release, Climate of Fear proudly presents "So Nice," the debut LP from Soft Boi aka Pessimist aka Kristian Jabs. Following 2019's sludge-crawl collab with Karim Maas and the eco-hellscape new age of Boreal Massif's "We All Have An Impact," Jabs turns his attention to a new nightmare: dating.
