Better (5:23)
Fever (5:27)
Review: Mood Hut have been coy about revealing details of the producers behind this latest missive of sun-kissed goodness, though it's fair to assume that they're closely associated with Chris Wang and JLM's Love Dancing parties in Vancouver. The two tracks, which sound like edits with a sprinkling of additional production and complimentary musical touches, were apparently created back in 2009, during the event's formative stages. The breezy, melodious and deliciously positive "Better" is undoubtedly the standout, fusing as it does analogue-rich deep house positivity with extensive samples of an old disco cut. Flipside "Fever" sprints further towards straight-up disco territory, expertly re-editing a heavily percussive, piano-heavy workout.

Rhythm Algorithm (8:23)
Trance Sexual (6:47)
Fittin' & Turnin' (All Day) (5:41)
Review: While Fantastic Man's material has been in and out of our shelves since 2011, it was this year's LP for Paris' Antinote that really grabbed our attention. "Rhythm Algorithm" for Superconscious follows a similarly wacked-out vision of house, and the title track itself is a stunning bullet made of ricocheting percussion and spectral melodies. "Trance Sexual" is a bumping, Chicago-leaning house banger that'll mix like perfection into just about anything, whereas "Fittin' & Turnin' (All Day)" is deconstructed by comparison, a hypnotic and highly frenetic sort of house jacker that rings and twists frantically from start to finish. Class.

Ooze City (9:44)
Aquabus (Plaza Of Nations dub) (9:31)
Kali Yuga (8:53)
Review: Following the hazy brilliance of last year's outing on UNTHANK, Canadian deep house explorer Lnrdcroy makes his debut on local label Mood Hut. Intriguingly, title track "Ooze City" eschews the wavy, new age vibes and ultra-deep melodies he's previously been associated with, turning instead to the world of wonky, late night acid house (think undulating TB-303 lines, hypnotic grooves, distorted electronics and hissing cymbals). Those seeking more pastoral pleasures will love the heady ambient house electronics and spaced out bongo lines of "Aquabus (Plaza Of Nations Dub)", while the delightful "Kali Yuga" recalls the dreamy brilliance of his 2014 classic "Sunrise Market", whilst moving further towards the tribal intensity of traditional African drum recordings.

Patrice Scott - "Seasons Change" (5:47)
Reggie Dokes - "The Baptism" (5:40)
Eric Cloutier - "Gossamer" (5:25)
Kai Alce - "Jelly" (4:41)
Review: Back in 2014, Patrice Scott gathered together a quartet of tracks from friends in the house and techno community and whacked them out under the Genesis Tracks banner. This belated follow-up repeats the same recipe for success, once again showcasing four cuts from big-hitting artists. Scott steps up first with the swirling, dreamy, intergalactic deep house bliss of "Seasons Change", before boogie revivalist Reggie Dokes joins the dots between analogue deep house and synth-funk on the sublime "The Baptism". Flip for the metronomic, riff-heavy deep house pulse of "Gossamar" by Eric Cloutier, and a killer, up-tempo analogue deep house jam from the hugely talented Kai Alce.

Die Roh - "Coming Out" (6:25)
Trudge - "Give" (6:23)
Die Roh - "Her First Time" (5:51)
Trudge - "Series 7" (4:20)
Review: Italy's Die Roh have come a long way since their first release for Vae Victis back in 2012 alongside Blawan, releasing plenty of militant house and techno with a rugged, analogue feel that sits just right with us. They're up on Axe Traxx this time for the label's second outing, and they're joined by newcomer Trudge. The former delivers a deep, lean deep house chugger in "Coming Out", relatively more docile than their previous material but it's still cut-throat enough to sound booming on a system and provoke a series of bodies to start moving thanks, in part, to its kinetic percussion rhythm and sublime keys. Trudge come through with "Give", a sludgy house monster with a brittle drum flex and banging toms built for destructive DJ use. On the flip of the wax plate, Die Roh are back with the funkier, more uplifting house bullet "Her First Time", but "Series 7" by Trudge is the killer on here, the shadiest house tune of them all that reminds us of Greg Beato at his very best. This is one hell of a tip - don't miss it.

Power Up (5:50)
Remedy (5:05)
Healing Channel (5:11)
Review: Distant Hawaii, the wavy Lobster Theremin offshoot, seems like the perfect home for Garrett David's lighthearted strain of house music, and we are very impressed with the Smart Bar resident's development over his last three EPs. The Chicago DJ and producer drops a pulsating little bomb in the form of "Octagon Blues", but "Power Up" is what truly brings his Chicago roots through thanks to its funky, jazzed 'out sound that never goes anywhere near being cheesy. On the flip, "Remedy" is sunken and aqueous in shape and texture, whereas "Healing Channel" eradicates the beats and percussion in favour of warm, hollow chords that spew neatly onto an off-kilter beat with a broken house edge.

Review: In recent years American imprint Kolour have fast become an institution of sorts, known for purveying quality grooves of the deeper spectrum. Their new compilation A Tale Of 2 Cities no doubt refers to both Detroit and Houston (the two cities from where the label is based) but rest assured that on this compilation their focus is absolutely global. There's a lot to cover on here, but we can tell you it's all good. Our highlights weren't limited to the bittersweet and emotive deepness of Ugly Drums & Lady BlackTronika's "Change The Key", Kiwi slo-mo house hero Frank Booker with his smooth Rhodes heavy groove "Unburdened", Canuck in Berlin Eddie C with the wicked low slung groove of "All Time Freak" and of course former Bent main man Simon Mills aka Napoleon who works more disco magic as always with the fabulous "Over & Done".

Losing Memory (6:11)
Review: Leipzig's finest M Ono and Luveless are back on Houston via Detroit's Kolour with volume three of their new limited 10" series. Starting out with the deeply uplifting soulfulness of "Never Gonna Leave You 2K16" they are then into "Losing Memory" on the flip which gets more reduced, dubby and emotive, giving a nod to the kind of loopy deepness as heard on labels like Office or Slices Of Life. There really is something in the water out in Leipzig at the moment, great stuff!

Just Wanna (6:15)
Movin' Thru (5:49)
Review: It's been a quiet year for Kai Alce, but finally the Atlanta house hero returns with a new pair of tracks that will surely satisfy any fans of his instinctive, expressive take on club-ready deep house. This latest drop comes on Sounds Of The City, which has also supported the likes of Walt J and Brian Harden. "Just Wanna" is a sure and steady workout peppered with woozy chords and a nagging vocal lick, but "Movin Thru" is surely the record's stand-out moment. With just the right balance between the edgy chords and the rounded bassline, it's a simple cocktail that plays to Alce's strengths perfectly.

Desert Eagle (6:26)
Cry Me A River (6:19)
Review: Hot on the heels of the boastfully-titled full-length The Best comes Desert Eagle, Alex Omar Smith's first 12" of 2016. The title track is as bold and brassy as you'd expect from the Detroit producer, with swirling, minor key melodies and woozy chords complimenting swinging machine drums and a deliciously bouncy, suitably tactile synth-bass line. Arguably better is "Cry Me A River", where soulful vocal samples and wonderfully positive melody lines are expertly combined with bumpin', distorted deep house drums. Throw in some sustained note strings and a bustling bassline, and you have another guaranteed floor-filler from the FXHE boss.

Land (5:18)
Review: Rhythm Section International, helmed by "Executive Producer" Bradley Zero, has barely put a foot wrong since launching in 2014. Here, the Peckham imprint welcomes Tom Harris AKA Hidden Spheres into the fold. He hits the mark from the off, layering up twinkling pianos, mutant synthesizer lines, bluesy vocal samples and huggable deep house grooves on "Well Well". Another deep, sun-kissed, almost horizontal house excursion can be found on the B, with the intricate and tactile "Your Effect" impressing. Elsewhere, Harris explores the dusty, downtempo side of his repertoire, with the jazzy "Land" sounding like a long lost Ninja Tune jam from the mid '90s.

DJ Sotofett - "Current 82" (12 mix) (13:47)
SVN - "Dark Plan 5" (extended mix) (7:21)
Review: The latest 12" from long-running Sahko offshoot Keys Of Life is the first of two split 'Balearic' releases from Sex Tags man DJ Sotofett and SUED co-founder SVN.. Sotofett's "Current 82" is a thing of rare beauty; an ambient house inspired chunk of lucid, mid-tempo dreaminess full of fluid chords, subtle, loved-up melodies and early Italian deep house bottom end. SVN continue the deep theme whilst doffing a cap to techno on flipside "Dark Plan 5". Their chords and pads are every bit as life-affirming as Sotofett's - even if they are a touch on the bittersweet side - but the accompanying up-tempo rhythm has a more ready-made dancefloor feel. Either way, both tracks are superb.

Review: After years of releasing quality house EPs, Brighton based Black Key Records scores something of a coup: its first full length is a sixth album from Tom Ellis, a core member and resident of the esteemed Freerotation Festival, who is already well known to those in the know. Ellis has long been putting out funk and jazz inspired house and has built a fine reputation with connoisseurs around the world because of it. As a trained musician, who has played drums, bass, keys and guitar since an early age, his productions come imbued with a real sense of artistry. He has worked with a wealth of labels in his time, and now comes his most coherent and complete statement yet. There is a real sense of quality and class to the music explored on From the Cabin Above the Clouds, that makes it stand well proud of the crowd.

Review: France's Versatile Records is a truly impressive label. They've been going string for over twenty years, and everything on its wonderful catalogue is worth a listen, whether you're a house fanatic or a jazz-funk head. They've been busy releasing vinyl EP's of this year's comprehensive 1996-2016 compilation, and this latest nugget forms part of the most recent years, where they've teamed up particularly closely with the likes of Sex Tags' DJ Sotofett. The opener is I:Cube's masterfully punchy and supremely executed "VVV" house bomb, followed by Sotofett's and label boss Gilb'r's "Foliages" - remixed here by Sotofett into a loose and jazzy version. I:Cube remixes John Cravache's "Le Desir De Rester Petit" on the flip under the Cubo name, the producer conjuring a dark and hypnotic tune, and Zombie Zombie make an appearance with their fuzzy electro house monster take of "Blue Monday" by New Order, entitled "The Beach". Solid.

Boogie Down (8:09)
In The Light (8:06)
Review: We would never be ones to challenge the importance and authority of Chicago's infamous Prescription label, a project in which Ron Trent played a fundamental role, but his more recent years on the Music And Power label aren't exactly a million miles away. This is true both in sound and general aesthetic, where Trent opts to communicate his thoughts and feelings through the medium of music. "Boogie Down", as the title suggests, is a little more funky and bass-heavy compared to his more usual deep house flex, but it makes for a welcome change to his catalogue, and any boogie made by Ron Trent is just fine with us. On the flip, "In The Light" is full of rigged percussion samples, wavy piano keys, and a jazzy bass tone, in what makes for a splendidly groovy disco-house cut. Lovely, as always, and you'll dig this if you're a fan of Kyle Hall and his output on Wild Oats.

Review: Following their recent release on the One Records VA, core family members
Yamen & EDA are the next offering on the label with the ‘Temporis EP’. The
sophisticated EP offers four dance floor tracks journeying through
mesmerising grooves, intricate percussions and quirky sound effects.
“We are very happy to return on One Records, it’s really like a family. Adam
and Ash believe in our music and we really feel being part of a crew. That’s
why it’s always special to release on One.” - Yamen & EDA
Having first become part of the label back in 2012 as part of a VA, French duo
Yamen & EDA have since been an integral part of One Records with their EP
‘Planet Brooklyn’ and a remix of Acid Mondays plus a debut gig at fabric as
part of a One Records showcase.
Over the past few years the pair have been hard at work in the studio refining

this clearly, which has gained them support from the likes of Appolonia and

And I Showed the Clouds (How to Cover Up a Clear Blue Sky)
Review: The first place the world heard the lead track from this new Love Notes from Brooklyn release, "Where Pathways Meet", was on Deep House legend Mike Huckaby's My Life with the Wave show volume 2. Pascal Viscardi was one of many great artists to take Huckaby's warm tones and turn them into a work of art. "Pathways..." wriggles with deep funk and soul, and is paired with 3 other likeminded tracks for this very well-rounded EP. "Oshakusan" is the dancefloor track, juxtaposing warm chords and an insistent sax sample over the a tough bassline and rhythm combination that's aimed staight at the floor. "Free at Dawn" is the fathoms deep effort, going miles below the surface in a emotional expression of soul, and "And I Showed the Clouds (How to Cover Up a Clear Blue Sky)" provides a perfect outtro, and end to the statement made, making this EP feel truly complete.
