Review: 17 years old and still sounding refreshing, light, breezy, soulful and smoky; the essence and vibe of Zero 7's debut album can never be repeated, but it can be repressed. Its first reissue since 2015, across two 12"s you can enjoy some of the best downtempo and poppy Balearica made by the duo Binns & Hardaker and a young Sia on vocals. Highlights, as always, include the dreamy lounge lapping jazz of "Red Dust", the fizzy Motown on mushrooms horns of "Give It Away" and the heartmelting yearns of "Distractions". Timeless downtempo gold, if this isn't in your collection now is most definitely the time.

Sweet As Rain (6:34)
Sweet As Rain (album mix) (9:56)
Review: Claremont 56 boss Paul Murphy fell in love with Pan Electric's 2004 cut "Sweet as Rain" after hearing it in Japan a few years ago. Since it has never previously been released on vinyl, he decided to license it from its creator, veteran producer Matt Coldrick. As sublime piece of next-level downtempo bliss rich in Marimba style melodies, calming acoustic guitars and traditional Ethiopian vocals, "Sweet as Rain" is near perfect in every way. Brilliantly, Coldrick has also provided a recently reworked "Album version" which stretches out enticingly for 10 minutes across all of side B. Slower to build and laden with mesmerizing musical elements, it's even better than the magical original mix.

Review: Balearic are back with their fourth label compilation, lovingly programmed by label boss Jim Breese. The perfect soundtrack for summer, brim-full of beach-ready tunes that truly reflect Ibiza's chilled musical spirit. Featuring legends and newcomers of the style alike, such as Japan by way of London's Max Essa with the sublime slo-mo beauty of "Gold Hush" (part 2), the legendary On U Sound (Adrian Sherwood) serves up a rework of Los Twangueros' classic "Entre Dos Aguas", Faze Action deliver a superbly neon-lit rendition of Private Agenda's "Dawn" and man of the moment Fabrizio Mammarella (who collaborates with Philip Lauer as Black Spuma) impresses as always - on his life-affirming re-rub of Gallo's "Faron".

Sunset Sparks (8:01)
Boma (6:55)
Review: New to Claremont but certainly not new to composing; Denis Leonvich has been writing for screen for over a decade and has amassed an impressive collection of heavier floor friendly cuts on the likes of National Techno. If these two rather warm and woozy Balearic debuts are anything to go by, his future cosmic output will be just as impressive; "Sunset Sparks" sways with a balmy mysticism with folk singing, an alluring hang drum and hazy pads while "Boma" takes a slightly darker route with psych sinewy arpeggios and a subtle but unforgettable brassy bass texture and sleazy guitar plucks. We look forward to Alterleo's next adventures...

Review: Alexis Georgopoulos, aka Arp, is based in Brooklyn, New York. Drawing on elevated kosmische atmospheres, minimalist classical composition, library, glam and leftfield disco influences, he has released music on RVNG, Beats In Space, Type, Opal Tapes and Emotional Response plus presented in galleries and like MoMA PS1 and the New Museum. A mutant offspring of diverse stylings, 2018's expansive Zebra LP is a post-everything symbiosis of ancient to future psychotropics. Using forward-looking production techniques, the album is a vast, shimmering prospect that emphasises points of connectivity, and pleasantly disrupts outdated boundaries between musical traditions, hierarchies and genre politics.

XXXX (Abel edit) (5:04)
Etire En Avant (4:51)
Review: Taken from last year's maxi EP under his off-piste Oeil Cube guise, I Cube's supersized "XXXX" gets the treatment from Red Light Records' Abel on this special 45". Taking its already smouldering slow-n-low vibe and giving it even more a hypnotic deep plunge, it's a respectful twist that loses none of the original's Balearic charm. Flip for "Etire En Avant" an immaculate slice of previously unreleased loopy magic that was recorded straight to tape in 96 but still sounds like it's 2096. Cool as ever.

Review: More nylon string charm offensive from Swiss based Latin American master guitarist Pablo Color following his Ish debut last year the "Viajando" EP. A full album of Balearic bliss, each instrumental tells a traditional tale with a little added contemporary magic. The flip perspectives on "Parasol" ease us through the most calming hours of the day, the title track ebbs and flows like its title suggests as cymbal splashes crash against the shore while "Waves" moves us with the swell of an alluring ambient tide. Romantic, warm and emotional, Pablo Color's just officially extended your summer. Thank him later.
