Happen Dub (6:06)
Ese Dub (5:47)
Feets Dub (6:08)
Be Dub 2 (4:01)
Review: The unstoppable house machine Nail is back once more on his 89:Ghost label with a grip of killer drops previously only available online. His advice is to "spark up a zug and chew on these meaty badboys", and we'd be inclined to agree. There's a heady, trippy quality to "Happen Dub" that suits all heavy lidded situations, while "Ese Dub" channels a few rugged bleep traits that hark back Nail's roots in DIY Discs and the free party scene. "Feets Dub" channels some sublime funk sampling that would sound right at home amongst the Detroit house grandmasters, and "Be Dub 2" takes things interstellar with some swirling, churning dub techno chords of the highest calibre.

Cosmic Love (Sophisticado Full vocal mix) (9:23)
Cosmic Love (Vick Underground dub) (8:58)
Cosmic Love (Sophisticado Time Traveler instrumental mix) (5:00)
Review: Vick Lavender is best known as a member of Glenn Underground's Strictly Jaz Unit, but he's also a respected house producer in his own right. Following releases from Reekee, emergent label Wrong Notes welcomes Lavender into the fold for this stunning 12" of deep rooted soulful house, leading in with the full vocal mix of "Cosmic Love," where loose and limber instrumentation is lifted even higher by Angela A's honey-coated vocals. "Vick's Underground Dub" pushes the densely packed rhythms to the fore for a headier dancefloor brew, and then the final "Sophisticado Time Traveler" instrumental version gives the keys and chords space to shine.

Don't Fear The Sound (Full Expansion) (14:06)
Don't Fear The Sound (Astral Stroll) (8:15)
Review: We were thrilled to bits with last year's "Passage EP", a two-track debut from Lars Bartkhun and Armon "Aybee" Bazile's The Astral Walkers project that offered a near perfect fusion of the former's jazzy musicality and the latter's deep and cosmic production style. "Don't Fear The Sound" explores similar sonic pastures, throwing in nods towards disco, boogie and jazz-funk to ensure an almost overwhelmingly positive listening experience. This is best exemplified by the A-side "Full Expansion" version, where eyes-closed guitar solos and breezy, carnival-ready pianos ride loose-limbed live percussion and a seriously warm bassline. Over on the flipside, they serve up a spacey and intergalactic deep house revision (the "Astral Stroll" mix) that's a little less hectic despite rocking a peak-time friendly BPM.

Review: The deepArtSounds label goes from strength to strength as it searches out the deepest operators in the contemporary house music scene. Melchior Sultana last appeared on the label alongside Deep88, but here he delivers an album of purely solo material (well, apart from Janelle Pulo's vocal turn on "Free"). There's a consitent smoky ambience across the eight tracks on offer here, but each individual piece has its own characteristics, from the melancholic synth meanderings of "Dusty Guitar" to the Detroit-tinted machine soul of "Romance". There's not a duff moment on here, making it an album you can sink into for the start-to-finish trip, or a useful collection of refined deep house cuts to fit into any set with ease.

Fly U (2010 Bangtraction mix) (8:07)
Fly U (Trinidadian Deep remix) (6:52)
Soul Baby (6:39)
Xpand (Swingtraction mix) (7:05)
Review: Donnie Tempo has a whole lot of projects to his name, and he's appeared on Alleviated Records, Moreaboutmusic and plenty of other releases in his time. He was last seen on Perpetual Rhythms back in 2017 with the Trak Register EP, and now he's back with another grip of infectious, bouncing and bumping jams. "Fly U (2010 Bangtraction Mix)" is a skipping, soaring jam that matches Ron Trent's musicality with a Detroit-flavoured urgency. Trinidadian Deep tackles the track on the A2 and makes it into a heady, transcendental delight. "Soul Baby" takes things on a more earthbound trajectory for steady cruising moments in the club, and then "Xpand (Swingtraction Mix)" casts off into deeper waters with a little more of that Motor City techno magic sprinkled on for good measure.

Review: Madrid-based label Mate makes a strong first impression with this assured slab of deep house goodness from Jesus Gonsev and Javonntte. Javonntte needs little introduction - the US producer and vocalist has forged a strong legacy in just a short time from NDATL and Sistrum Recordings to Skylax and Quintessentials. Gonsev has been active for many years, previously appearing on labels like Troubled Kids and more recently deepArtSounds and Altered Moods. As you might expect then, the vibe is heartfelt and mature on this 12", not least when the two team up for the bumping "Feel The Beat In The Air".

The Blues (8:21)
No Sample (7:12)
Get Ready (8:20)
Review: Nat Wendell appeared for the first time last year with the excellent Theoretics EP, and now he's back with a classy joint for Courtesy Of Balance. "The Blues" rides on some addictive Lately bass and a tight set of drums, making great use of hypnotising synth flourishes to soften out the edges and make this the consummate modern deep house joint. "No Sample" is a little more steadfast in its pace and propulsion, but there's still plenty of mellifluous melodic action to keep you locked in. "Get Ready" rounds the EP off with more of the same - high grade house music imbued with soul but built for the floor.

Deep88 - "U Are A Deaf Man" (5:28)
Review: Melchior Sultana's Profound Sound label hits its third release with some seriously deep-diving tones from those closest to the label. Owen Jay has long been a sparring partner to Sultana, and he's on fine form here with the understated immersion and snaking rhythms of "Bipyramid." Sultana himself is next up with the shimmering, smoky "Paris", while Colkin and Javonntte kick off the B side with the gorgeous vocal tones of "In My Soul". Deep88 finishes the record off with a little old-skool flavour, all driving drum machine jack and tweaked out techno synth expressions as melodic as they are futuristic.

Daphne - "When You Love Someone" (Groove instrumental) (7:55)
Samo DJ & Hidden Operator - "Capture Behind Rox" (5:09)
Review: Given the label's status as the offshoot of a celebrated weekly radio show, it seems fitting that Beats In Space has finally launched a mix series. The first volume comes from Moko Shibata AKA Powder, a Japanese DJ/producer renowned for the undeniably cosmic and otherworldly nature of her productions and performances. "Powder In Space" takes this dreamy, intergalactic approach as a base, with Shibata beatmatching and blending her way through an eclectic but interconnected mix of yearning electronica, deep tropical grooves, dreamy experimentalism, soft-focus grooves, seductive deep house, jazzy rollers, elastic techno and oddball ambient. It's one hell of a journey.

Money Blues (9:30)
Money Blues (instrumental) (9:30)
Review: Less than a month after volume one landed in stores, Samuel Andre Madsen serves up a second salvo in the "Prolific Trilogy 009" series. This time round, it's all about "Money Blues", a fine, far-sighted cut that's available in both original and instrumental interpretations. It's the former, stretched out across the A-side, which hits home hardest. Madsen makes great use of a blues vocal sample, placing it at the heart of the action alongside elongated, glassy-eyed chords, near Balearic melodies, bustling deep house drums and a wonderfully rich and persuasive bassline. It's really rather good, with the vocal-free instrumental sharing the A-side's loved-up positivity and obvious dancefloor weight.

On & On (Paul Johnson Keep On Jackin remix) (5:19)
On & On (Kristin Velvet remix) (5:27)
On & On (Cinthie remix) (5:38)
Review: This valuable reissue of a very early house classic finds criminally overlooked pioneer Jesse Saunders dusting down "On & On" and giving it a fresh sonic boost and some modern remixes to boot. The original is a joy to behold in its raw, lo-fi and pleasantly unhinged burst of original expression, before Paul Johnson comes bowling in with a wild organ bassline powered version that will have fists shaking all over the spot. Kristin Velvet taps into the trippy jacking qualities of the original, turning out a respectful version that celebrates what Saunders laid out in his creative vision. Cinthie then drops a peppy remix that adds some dramatic swagger to the groove and beefs up the hooky bass arpeggio.

You Don't Really Want Me (6:04)
Raw Thoughts (3:53)
Acid City (4:47)
You Do (2:09)
Review: Concrete club resident Sweely is fast becoming one of France's most talked-about DJ/producers. The hype is partly based on his club-rocking skills, but also on the quality of his on-point productions. This latest excursion on Lobster Theremin is shamelessly floor-friendly in tone, with the young Frenchman effortlessly joining the dots between acid house, bass-heavy UK house and garage, and more soulful U.S deep house flavours. Check, in particular, the throbbing, lo-fi bounce of "You Don't Really Want Me", where ragged acid lines and soulful vocal samples wrap around a bustling groove, and the bombastic, breakbeat-driven peak-time assault that is "Stronger Than Me". Elsewhere, he finds time to flit between TB-303 abuse and Rhodes playing on "Acid City" and indulges his love of blazed, hip-hop style beatmaking via closer "You Do".

Follow Me (Acid Bass mix) (6:37)
Follow Me (Dancefloor Rhythm mix) (6:38)
Follow Me (Deep Bass Nine mix) (6:36)
Review: Tyree's Chicago Vinyl label continues to roll out essential gems from the house pioneer's considerable vaults, with as much emphasis on new material as old. "Follow Me" definitely doffs its cap to contemporary house, not least when the vocal-peppered garnish gets stripped away to reveal the shuffling groove underneath. The "Acid Bass" mix takes things further with its moody, 303 flecked tones, while the "Dancefloor Rhythm" version makes things bounce around without a melody until a sassy piano lick comes in. The "Deep Bass Nine" mix completes the package with the trippiest offering of the lot, the low-end throb being the constant anchor while the rest of the track pivots and gyrates with its own unique approach to the fundamental elements that make up "Follow Me".

Review: Following on from the equally essential "The End Of" 12" released just recently on For Those That Knoe, Jaime Read is back in the spotlight with more cuts from his 1997 album "The End Of The Beginning". It makes sense then that this 12" is called "The Beginning", but the music is far from amateur material. This is elevated, evolved and exquisite deep house and techno that shows the depth and breadth the genres can reach when the machines are pushed into wild new territory. Just listen to the alien signals embedded in "Itty Bitty Pieces," a stunning electro workout that sounds unlike anything else. For any self-respecting fan of vintage UK house and techno, this release is unmissable.

After Life (6:53)
Review: Real proper house music from the legendary Allen Jovonn Armstrong. Originally released in 1995 on New York City's Kult Records, "Satisfied" is a true classic from the underground for those who know. We're loving the standout Moodyfied mix: a stripped down, moody back room dub that begs to be played in a dark basement, while on the flip it's all about the soulful and emotive swing of "I'm Waiting". The rather pumping "After Life" which perfectly captures the zeitgeist of the early '90s sound coming out of The Big Apple is rather good too.

Before Midnight (Dubbyman House mix) (4:58)
Review: George Btp has many strings to his bow, from his work as Dan Piu to his Allstar Motomusic aliases and his deepArtSounds label. His Zarenzeit band with Robert P has been quietly cruising since the mid 90s, although first surfaced on deepArtSounds in 2016 with the Black Inside album. Now the project returns with a limited 7" release for fellow deep house traveler Dubbyman's Deep Explorer label, and the results are as seductive and subliminal as you would expect. "Before Midnight" fuses swirling galaxies of high end synth work with a snappy electro funk backbeat, which Dubbyman reworks on the flip into one of his trademark deeper than deep dancefloor cuts.

Green Dove (6:06)
Review: Chaos In The CBD brothers Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales begin 2019 by serving up another essential two-track missive on the In Dust We Trust imprint they launched in early 2017. A-side "Orange Blank" is wonderfully warm, atmospheric and evocative, with the New Zealand duo peppering a chunky, bongo-laden breakbeat groove with rich bass and wave upon wave of loved-up, glassy-eyed chords (think turn-of-the-90s Italian Dream House with a dash of 808 State and Mood Hut thrown in). You'll find more sunrise-ready deep house warmth on the flip, where gently pulsing chords, undulating synth bass, fluttering electronics and sharp TB-303 acid lines combine brilliantly on "Green Dove".

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Needs is back with its fifth installment of charity-raising goodness from some seriously quality producers. This time the gauntlet is thrown down by the increasingly prolific DJ Normal 4, who wields some of his signature breakbeats over a cheeky synth that nods to Da Hool for a dark and deadly roller. Israeli duo Red Axes pop up fresh from outings on !K7 and Phantasy Sound for the worldly percussion and mystical atmosphere of "Treacksheni" before Bristol bass-wielding techno titan Hodge finishes the package off with the stunning, dramatic undulations of "Signal," making this a collection of tracks that all feed into the same vein of rhythmically adventurous, moody club music.

Review: The Acido crew at their best: raw, pure house rhythm jams recorded live to tape while touring out in Australia during 2018. Singular Berlin duo Dynamo Dreesen and SVN present 3 Trax with stunning opener "Shelly Beach" named after the famed coastal suburb in New South Wales (though it sounds more like Lakeshore Dr. Chicago circa 1989), followed by the tripped-out tribal dub of "Coles Farm" which is reminiscent of SVN's work with Porn Sword Tobacco on the Recording sessions. On the flip, closer "Brunswick" is a hypnotic minimal techno closer which channels that classic Robert Hood vibe of old. Nice one.

Review: Following a year spent unfurling new material on their own Pen & Paper imprint, Session Victim returns to Delusions of Grandeur with another strong collection of cuts. The German duo first joins forces with Nebraska to layer a tough deep house beat with simmering strings and jammed-out electric piano lines ("Dawn"), before effortlessly joining the dots between deep house, dub house and hazy jazz-funk on "Taste of Life". Pal Iron Curtis lends a hand on the deliciously toasty and loved-up deep house shuffle of "Hear The Sun", while Sven Weisemann arguably steals the show with an ultra-deep, dubby, hypnotic and pleasingly melodious remix of title track "Dawn". It's such a good revision, in fact, that it's worth buying the EP just to have it in your collection.

It's got the perfect balance of emotion and mystery, human warmth and electro soul. Ashley Beedle dives in with the "Afrikanz On Marz Remix", bringing his illustrious soul and funk flourishes to bear on the jam. Review: Tbilisi's infamous Bassiani spot already has its own label, but now the queer-centric Horoom space within the club is launching an imprint of its own. Opening up the A side of this split 12", Francis Harris is a great choice for the first drop on the label with his smoky take on deep house sinking under the skin and leaving a chill in the air. Adamo Golan takes this seductively spooky mood and injects it with uptempo but equally submerged broken beats via his remix of "Archive Fever". Hamatsuki presents two original tracks on the B side, and while very different "Kandzaia" and "Picnic Attack" both project a more mellow side-room ambience that's a joy to sink into.
