Review: After a blazing series of sounds across the likes of Idle Hands and his own co-run label Wisdom Teeth, London-based K Lone reveals even more of his musical depths with his debut album Cape Circa. Beautifully subdued, warm and hypnotic, K Lone carefully crafts a whole narrative using minimal instruments and textures throughout. Vibrating with a timeless style that nods to dub techno and the deeper side of Detroit, highlights include the sweet harmonics of tracks like "Honey" and "Cocoa" to the dreamy lullaby-like charm of cuts such as "Bluefin" and the delicate, trembling finale "Happened". A perfect, ultimately calming soundtrack to these strange, turbulent times.

Review: A collaborative project involving Marc Ertel, zake and Damien Duke, Dawn Chorus & The Infallible Sea's music certainly matches the intriguing name the team decided to come up with. Tunes are deep, immersive and easily capable of conjuring some pretty wild dreams of fantastical places and mythical things.

Sheets of shimmering synths seem to glint like the sun is hitting them as they weave through tracks like 'Dormi Bene, Spirito', 'Silenzio Potente' and 'Caduta Del Cielo'. 'Lontana' drowns us in submerged note refrains, ebbing and flowing like the tides, a hidden symphony that washes over and through the listener. It's meditative stuff but nothing here lacks direction - you just need to pay close attention to hear the movement in the arrangements, making for a different kind of aural journey, the destination what you make of it.

Review: Yaeji's latest offering is a perfect tightrope walk between dreamy pop, DIY house and plenty of the Korean American artists own unique sound designs. It is starkly emotional and demonstrates a lightness of melodic touch that is beautiful to experience. Introverted and perfectly poised for self reflection, the album is an essential audio partner for these strange and unsettling times in which we live. There are darker moments of experimentation, but always balanced with improve jazz or lighter moments that lifts the mood. It's perfectly time during an era when we can't be back in clubs, and is her strongest work by far.

Kalamazoo (4:42)
Not The Dx100 (4:57)
Halfway (5:57)
Just Let Me Go (5:58)
Review: Donnell Knox and Mark Hawkins, better known as D-Knox and Marquis Hawkes respectfully, team up for a collaborative EP on Sonic Mind that speaks to their respective roots in underground techno reaching back to the 90s. "Kalamazoo" is a tough and clattering jacker with out-of-phase organ lines to send your mind spinning, while "Not The DX100" brings things front and centre for a comparatively direct, acidic workout. "Halfway" ramps up the melodic content as a displaced vocal celebrates Kalamazoo's location between Chicago and Detroit, and then "Just Let Me Go" completes the set with a tough and bumping vocal house cut.

Mamezala (4:19)
Never Give Up (4:58)
Review: The Bees were a product of the late 80s South African music scene. They were an unknown band even in their homeland but its hard to see why given their happy kwaito sound. Now, 30 years later, international diggers are bringing the outfit the acclaim they deserve after the band was rather forgotten because they never had a big crossover hit in their early years. Here two of their best tracks are served up by Dutch label La Casa Tropical. They're lit up with pixelated synths and retro-future vibes that European party people love to get down to. "Mamezala" is the more considered of the two, while "Never Give Up" is a strident and rousing proto-house anthem with plenty of boogie in the bass.

Marcia Maria - "Amigo Branco" (3:30)
Simone - "Tudo Que Voce Podia Ser" (2:16)
Review: The latest volume in Mr Bongo's brilliant Brazil 45 series offers up a pair of MPB gems that have previously never featured on seven-inch before. Side A is all about Marcia Maria's 1978 cut "Amigo Branco", a disco-era interpretation of Djalma Dias' 1974 track "Nada Sei De Preconceito". Maria's cover is jaunty, colourful and ear-catching, pushing jaunty organs, sharp horns and spacey synth lines towards the ear alongside her passionate, full-throated lead vocal. Over on side B you'll find "Tudo Que Voce Podia Ser", an overlooked gem plucked from MPB artist Simone's self-titled 1973 debut LP. More rooted in samba, it's a lilting, string-laden chunk of emotional sweetness.

Review: Album number eight from the big man himself monsieur Dom et la Roland, and it's got mighty big shoes to fill as it follows his incredible "Last Refuge Of A Scoundrel" on Metalheadz. Never one to tread the same old path, it doesn't just fill the shoes, it goes and buys and a whole new pair. Much more stripped back and militant than its predecessor, tracks like "Sandcrawler" and "Zeppelin" take us right back to the Moving Shadow source in their austere, grizzlesome steppy nature while "A Broken Heart" recalls Dom's more emotional side. All bases covered and all eras touched on, once again Dom's delivered a timeless, authentic body of work.

Review: Self-styled "sound architect" and "music creator" Cio D'Or has been strangely quiet since releasing a 'special edition' of her "All In All" album back in 2016. Comeback EP "Fluidum III" is really rather good: a fine collection of alien electronic workouts that sound like they were created via modular synthesis. What we get is six tracks built around watery sounds, swelling electronic motifs, spaced-out noises and occasional quirky rhythms. While some of the tracks - particularly "Climate" and "Celestial II" - boast deep but weighty kick-drum tracks in the techno tradition, for the most part the tracks are sparse, alien and devoid of dancefloor intent. The results are consistently alluring, albeit in a strange and spaced-out way.

Review: After an extended, pandemic-related break, Brawther has decided to re-activate his highly regarded Negentropy label via a second EP on the imprint from former L.B Produce artist Ron Obvious. He begins in trademark style via EP highlight 'Builded Mind', a tech-tinged blend of skipping, UK garage style drums, jaunty sub bass, spacey electronics and deliciously tactile deep house motifs. He continues to fix loose-limbed and weighty garage grooves to deep and intergalactic house sounds on side two opener 'Nearly Forever', before pushing dub style bass to the fore on hypnotic late-night deep house number 'Foreground'.

Review: One of the joys of Pets Recordings' output over the last couple of years is how unpredictable it has become stylistically. Basically, you don't know what the next release will bring musically, but more often than not it will be rather good. That's certainly the case on the imprint's latest four-tracker, which sees London producer Jeigo (real name Jack Carr-Miles) flit between driving and occasionally dreamy breakbeat-house dirtiness (the retro-futurist peak-time pump of 'We Are Not Nothing'), Livity Sound-goes-deep house brilliance (the intricate percussion programming and gently swelling chords of 'Far Away'), hazy early morning deep house hypnotism ('FS Melody'), and ultra-deep, UK garage-influenced sunrise wooziness ('Beyond', whose emotive, ear-catching female vocal samples work wonderfully).

After his surprise drop with music writer and producer Blackdown on the Keysound label last month, the enigmatic Burial is now back with a fresh new EP all of his own. It comes on his longtime home of Hyperdub and features two more of his deft designed, ghostly deep dubstep post-nightbus joints. Ebo Taylor & Uhuru Yenzu - "What Is Life?" (4:40)

Review: Mukatsuku presents the second volume of killer Ghanaian highlife/afrofunk monsters this time focusing on two artists legendary in the genre. First up first time on a 45 from 1980 is '' What Is Life '' from the Ebo Taylor & Uhuru Yenzu album ''Conflict Nkru! ''. Amazing brass, flute and afrocentric rhythms lay the path for the track once heard never forgotten. On the flip first time ever on a 45 Pat Thomas who features on volume 1 of the series comes correct with possibly the best version (and there are a few ) of ''Gyae Su'' . With its jangly african guitar licks and infectious chorus lines the feel good factor is set to maximum. Another dope afro burner on Mukatsuku and sure to sell out fast. 500 hand numbered copies and no repress. As supported by DJ Koco from Japan and Jonathon Moore (Coldcut )

They're both an established part of the Motor City music community, and their self-titled debut album for Moodymann's Mahogani Music is undeniably rooted in Detroit's ongoing musical story. Effortlessly soulful and musically rich, its' eight killer cuts various touch on Parliament/Funkadelic style P-Funk (the superb title track), up-tempo, slap-bass propelled '80s boogie ('Music is My Hustle'), warming deep house-soul ('Please Don't Fail Me'), beatdown (the sleazy brilliance of the Amp Fiddler-esque 'Formula of Passion'), and inspired fusions of all of the above ('Lifeline').

Review: Planisphere is exactly the kind of cult deep house and techno producer that For Those That Knoe are all over. David Swatten's last release was 20 years ago, and that one now fetches sky-high prices online, but fortunately the good ship Knoe has taken charge of the situation and commissioned this full-length release of sumptuous electronics. As you would expect for the label, the vibe is primarily classic ambient techno with a spread of different energies from heads down club grooves to blissful back room excursions, all expressed through vintage synth tones. Consistently brilliant throughout, this is the kind of album you could happily melt into from start to finish, as well as having plenty for the mix-minded to get busy with.

Just ask Roy of the Ravers, who shares a similar spirit of tongue-in-cheek rave nostalgia framing stunning hardware house and techno to Ping Discs founder Myoptik. The pair trade tracks and titters back and forth, moving from one advanced acid bomb to the next via some hilarious segues, giving you a hell of a lot of bang for your buck. Just listen to 'Roy Of The Ravers Acid' and you'll feel like the whole world around you is dripping in lysergic 303 fluid. Review: Miles Sagnia has a deep-rooted backstory in the UK underground techno scene. Under his own name and as Miles Atmospheric he's produced consistently compelling techno for labels like Finale Sessions, FireScope, Aesthetic Audio and Applied Rhythmic Technology. Such associations point to the soundworld Sagnia inhabits - a harmonically balanced strain of deep-diving brain food that favours expressive musicality and inventive programming over rigid functionality. Having previously appeared as Miles Sagnia on Ornate back in 2010, he returns to the label as Miles Atmospheric with three cuts that explore melancholic moods through artful interplay between beautifully rendered synth tones and intricate drum machine excursions. These tracks still move with purpose and presence, but the end goal is more cerebral than physical - a perfect fit for the immersive experiences Ornate has always strived to promote.

Review: Balearic titans Chris Coco and DJ Rocca team up on this new slab for Faze Action which celebrates all the finest qualities of these two veteran maestros. 'Discoteca (Heavy Fun Dub)' pours plenty into the mix, from sizzling disco and dreamy dub to slick 80s motifs, and yet it all comes off feeling very chilled indeed. 'Brute' plays around with analogue synths and raw drum machine punch to create a slow but intense cosmic workout, before Faze Action themselves step up to rework 'Discoteca' into a lean and mean club tool. For those who want to skip the breathy vocals, there's also an instrumental mix of 'Discoteca' included on the B2.

In practice, that means serving up a quartet of emotive and melodious tracks that explore the deeper and more tactile end of the electro spectrum. He begins by wrapping fluttering, mind-soothing synthesizer motifs around a bubbly electronic bassline and crunchy machine drums on 'New Era of Tenderness', before adding new age ambient style chords and jaunty lead lines to an even deeper electro beat on 'Dreamy 5D'. '808 Waterfall' is a pin-sharp and positive number rich in yearning chords and starry melodies, while 'Hermerc' sees the producer successfully employ rugged acid lines, punchy drums and gaseous pads.

Review: The Nix is a loose collection of uniquely talented musicians corralled together by Nick McCarthy (ex-Franz Ferdinand) and Seb Kellig around their Sausage Studio in East London. The recording sessions were informal - the studios were open 24 hours and musicians would simply drop in - and as a result the album has a proper party feel, rooted in the traditions of DIY pop and punky reggae. Notable guests include Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab fame and the ever game for a laugh KT Tunstall, but none of the numerous cameos outshines or obscures the overall communal vibe of the album as a whole. Sure to put a smile on your face and an earworm in your system, this is addictive homegrown soul music that leans to Two Tone's more light hearted moments, Althea Forrest and Donna Reid's classic 'Uptown Top Ranking' or even Fun Boy Three and Bananarama getting down to it together. Pure, not trying too hard, class.

Side A is DJ Suro a re-work of Patti Drew's 1968 version of 'Hard to Handle' that has big brass sounds, low slung bass and a fine soul vocal scoring to real heights. And rightly so, because Automatic may well be even better than its illustrious predecessor. Musically, it features the same unique mix of vintage krautrock synths, jazz-funk instrumentation and enjoyably organic grooves, just this time round they've stepped it up another notch or two. The Aussie combo is in fine form throughout, dotting between the Steely Dan style warmth of 'Rare Air', the Brit Funk style weightiness of 'Vapour', the cosmic, art-rock influenced haziness of 'Downstream', the almost horizontal bliss of nine-minute epic 'Citations', the colourful live nu-disco goodness of 'Memory Palace' and the seductive sweetness of 'Automatic'.

Review: Spanky Wilson is one of the fiercest, sweetest voices in the golden era of late 60s / early 70s soul, with a modest but mighty mark left behind by her run of classic albums and later collaboration with The Quantic Soul Orchestra. This handy 7" gathers together two classic Wilson cuts, leading in with the heavyweight soul-funk of "You". On the flip is her evergreen cover of "Sunshine Of Your Love", which for our money bests Jack Bruce's original vocal performance to take the vintage track onto a whole other level of raw, passionate power.

'Save The Children' on the B-side is more typical of the Floorplan alias with its funky and infectious disco loops. The original mix is low slung yet uplifting, while the fierce and pummeling Detroit mix is aimed squarely at the peak time dancefloor - once again executed in expert mode.
