Superprince - "Dependable" (edit) (6:56)
Review: To mark their 50th release, Brooklyn scalpel fiends Razor-N-Tape has put together a triple-pack of tried-and-tested reworks from some of the scene's heaviest hitters. It's as strong as you'd expect, with highlights including the heavyweight, delay-laden disco-funk brilliance of Dimitri From Brooklyn's "Hooked On This Feeling" (a dub disco revision of an old Frank Hooker jam by Dimitri From Paris), the Clavinet-driven, piano-laden peak-time hustle of Joey Negro's "Let's Get Ornery", the Clarinet and trumpet-sporting hedonism of Jacques Renault's emotive and heart-tugging "Said I Would" and the screaming, hands-aloft rush of Superprince's "Dependable". Fittingly, label co-fouder JKriv delivers one of the standouts, a rolling revision of an Italo-style, arpeggio-driven delight titled "Lovin' Lasers".

Inside Out (7:47)
Review: Disco maestro Al Kent is a safe pair of hands when it comes to all things funky, and he's been setting dancefloors ablaze for more than 10 years with his exclusive remix of Odyssey's perennial classic "Inside Out". Smoothing out the boogie tones of the original and turning it into a fluttering disco-funk delight, it's an incredibly tasteful, velvety smooth version that until now has been out of reach of all but a very select few spinners. Now Mr. Kent has done the right thing and pressed up this heater for all to savour. Don't sleep as these will surely not be around for long.

CPCBNA 2020 (8:58)
ILLBRND 2020 (7:51)
Review: When it comes to reworking million-selling singles and gargantuan hits, there's nobody better than Frenchman-in-London The Reflex. Further proof arrives via his latest sneaky two-tracker, which offers multi-track re-edits of two sing-along favourites. On side A he delivers a heavy disco revision of party classic "Copacabana" (yep, the Barry Manilow-written banger) that turns it into a breathless and sleazy workout fit for peak-time dancefloors. Over on side B he gets to work on disco-soul classic "I'll Be Around", underpinning the orchestration and repeated chorus vocal ("whenever you call me, I'll be there" etc) with house style beats for added oomph.

The Moton 5 (7:28)
Slap & Slide (7:34)
March Violets (6:57)
The Moton 5.2 (6:04)
Review: Nina Walsh was Andrew Weatherall's long time studio partner. Together they worked as the Woodleigh Research Facility and one of their last projects was the tracks that make up the first release on this new label by Moton Records Inc's Dave Jarvis and Darren House. Weatherall wrote the four tacks with assistance from Walsh and of course they are chugging, sparkling, dark disco groovers for the slow motion lovers and astral dreamers out there. "The Moton 5" sets a darkened mood while "Slap & Slide" is all about the trippy lead riff and cosmic synth sounds, "March Violets" is then riddled with twitches, flashes and speaks of brightness before "The Moton 5.2" sinks into a shuffling dub disco swagger.

Lotta Love (Jim Burgess Disco mix) (0:30)
You Send Me (0:30)
Review: This wonderful, Balearic tinged Disco rarity is gets a limited reissue. Nicolette Larson's 'Lotta Love' has long been a sought after jam, with the promo only 12" version changing hands for big dough!
Mixed by the legendary Florida born and NYC dwelling mixer and DJ extraordinaire Jim Burgess, this one straddles that gorgeous line of being a bit Rock (Neil Young wrote the track) and totally Disco in all the right ways. A truly sweet slice of music here backed with a nice cover of Sam Cooke's classic standard 'You send me'.
Often bootlegged, there's been some shoddy facsimiles kicking around over the years this high quality, official, 100% legit reissue has been lovingly remastered by Warner Brothers from the master tapes. What more can you ask for? This 2020 repress is a reproduction of the 1978 WB promo only 12" complete with Warner Brothers artwork. Essential business.

Be What You Want To Be (4:41)
Papa "Doo" (5:17)

Review: REPRESS ALERT: As far as collaborative delights go, this really takes the cake. Miami boogie wildcard Noel Williams, aka King Sporty, throwing it down heavy with legendary Jamaican reggae axe man Ernest Ranglin - as you might expect, the results are incendiary. "Soft Touch" has a hint of the cosmic about it as it romps through insanely catchy chorus chants, stirring brass stabs and Ranglin's sweet licks. "Keep On Dancing" has a more uptempo feel, "In The Rain" slips into a laid back reggae skank and "Be What You Want To Be" turns the vintage disco heat back up. Throughout this wonderful mini LP, the duo switch between each other's strengths and bring out the best in each other, like all good collaborations should.

TT - "Dub Inside" (Robot84 Balearic Re Work) (7:56)
Review: The Robot84 team of Andy Williams and Scott Ferguson have already struck gold on a number of occasions with their cool and deadly disco edits, and they're at it once again with this scene-approved dose of peak time party fuel. "V's King Supreme" is a cheeky, feel-good disco house burner with all the funk poured in and the campness bursting out like a glitter fountain. "V's Miss Siam" is a fierce Italo thumper with a pulsing arpeggio and spine-tingling synth licks on top. "Automatic (Remix)" is a smart and snappy slice of electronic disco while the "Balearic Re-Work" of TT's "Dub Inside" smooths things out with an early 90s flavoured baggy roller par excellence.

Moodena - "Papi Chulo" (6:45)
Phazed Groove - "Close To Me" (5:47)
Castle Queenside - "Everything You Got" (7:02)
Review: The Tropical Disco Records crew doesn't let up. They've only been operative since 2017, but they've already reached volume 16 in their ongoing vinyl series. This time round, the standout highlights come from label headsSartorial and Moodena. The former kicks things off with the all-action goodness of "Disco Biscuit", a hybrid disco/boogie cut rich in kaleidoscopic synth sounds, dazzling guitar riffs, rubbery synth-bass and booming new house drums. Moodena's "Papi Chulo" is similarly slamming - rhythmically at least - with the producer layering simmering strings, elastic slap bass, wild Hammond organ solos and dreamy deep house chords over more hot-to-trot house beats. The flipside edits by Phazed Groove and Castle Queenside are solid, too, though it's the A-side versions that hit home hardest.

Run Down World (5:55)
Times Are Bad (8:00)
Review: Remarkably, almost a decade has passed since the first missive from re-edit crew Heavy Disco (AKA Ashley Beedle, Dave Jarvis and Darren House) landed in stores. Here the London collective returns for the first time in four years with two more tried-and-tested dancefloor rubs. "Run Down World" is particularly delicious, delivering a groovy revision of what sounds like one of the Police's hazier and more groove-based moments (IE there's less reggae influence and more of an AOR disco flex - think great grooves and flanged, spaced-out guitars). On side B it's all about "Times Are Bad", a fine extended revision of Tavares' deep disco/Steely Dan-goes-jazz-funk rub "Bad Times" that seems eerily fitting for the situation the world is in.

Sununguka (Special extended dub mix) (5:43)
Review: Faze Action have been on a roll with their collaborative project with Zeke Manyika, which first started up in 2016 and now reaches its fourth installment with the infectiously uplifting "Sununguka". In its original form the Afro-house burner artfully blends Manyika's Zimbabwean roots with Faze Action's knack for '80s tinged proto-house. "Rwendo" is a more laid back affair compared to the lead track, but it's no less effervescent thanks to Manyika's vocals. On the B side, Alan Dixon drops a feisty Italo version of "Sununguka" that sounds purpose built for spine-tingling sundown moments, while there's also a pumped up "Special Extended Dub" version to appeal to headsy DJs looking to keep the floor running at full tilt.

I Want To Thank You (KON Shine Your Light remix) (7:54)
I Want To Thank You (KON dub) (7:49)
Review: Having previously breathed new life into classic cuts from L.T.D, George Duke and Sylvester, Kon has now turned his attention to another all-time favourite: Alicia Myers' 1981 stunner "I Want To Thank You", a disco-era gospel-soul favourite that remains one of the era's most timeless club records. Working from the multi-track tapes, Kon teases out Myers' killer vocal - drenched in just the right amount of reverb and delay - atop a slightly stripped-back groove before giving it the full kitchen sink treatment. Just as good is the flipside Dub, which flits between beat-free sections and the track's killer groove in the manner of disco dubs from the early 1980s. The song itself may not have needed tampering with, but Kon's versions are genuinely superb.

Review: Three years on from the release of his terrifically Balearic and glassy-eyed debut LP on Running Back, Lewis Day AKA Tornado Wallace offers up a sequel of sorts: a fine mini-album that marks his first appearance on JD Twitch's admirable Optimo Music label. The collected cuts still contain some of the Australian producer's sonic hallmarks - those colourful synths and so on - but the overall mood is far more psychedelic, intense and otherworldly than some may expect, with definite nods towards feverish African rhythms, humid ambient techno, raw early '80s new wave cuts and the hallucinatory electronics of early goa trance. It's a definite sonic shift, but one that's hugely successful. In fact, it may well be his most alluring release to date.

Review: Defected's disco-minded Glitterbox offshoot has decided to dip a toe into the choppy waters (sorry) of the re-edit scene. The man at the control is fun-time rework specialist Dr Packer, an Australian scalpel specialist who has spent the last few years contributing tidy edits to a variety of well-regarded labels. First, he adds a little late '80s house shuffle to a soul-fired, boogie-era disco classic, before turning the equally familiar "Still in Love" into a bouncy, club-ready chunk of disco-house full of swirling strings and Chic-style guitars. On the flip the good doctor gets his hands a much-sampled electrofunk workout, retaining the drum delays while adding a touch of nu-disco swagger, before brilliantly dubbing out and tooling up the synth-heavy swagger of 1985 hit "I'll Be Good".

Strength (Freeform extended Reform instrumental) (7:45)
Review: Carolyn Harding's "Strength" originally came out in 2003 on Yellow Productions, and it was a certifiable bomb back then thanks in no small part to the fierce, finely sculpted disco funk production from Freeform Five's Anu Pillai. It's big budget house music that draws on all the best qualities of foundational dance music, but most importantly keeps the heart and soul front and centre. What better track to reissue in summer months, whether you're on the dancefloor or forced to vibe at home? The remixes on this Glitterbox missive come from equally gifted premier league artists like The Shapeshifters and JKriv, but in truth the Freeform "Reform" and attendant instrumental are crucial enough on their own to grab this work of dancefloor art.

Groove It To Your Body (vocal) (7:12)
Groove It To Your Body (instrumental) (6:31)
Review: It would be fair to say that Michael Wilson's "Groove It To Your Body" is not one of the most celebrated tracks in the Prelude Records catalogue. It's still a killer cut, though, as this reissue proves. Reprising the same running order as the original 1982 12", which was mixed by Prelude's regular desk-man Francois Kevorkian, it kicks off with a full vocal version that layers Wilson's impassioned singing, harps and reverb-laden sax lines over a hybrid disco-funk/electrofunk groove. Full of crunchy Clavinet lines, Bohannon-style guitar riffs and bulging basslines, it's a track full of fine musical details that still packs serious dancefloor punch. Over on side B you'll find Kevorkian's delay-laden Instrumental mix, which naturally flits between groove-based sections and delightfully over the top musical wig-outs.

Review: As the title makes clear, this tasty 12" from Lovedancing sees Brooklyn producer Jacques Renault deliver fresh interpretations of killer cuts from the label's vaults. Renault first offers up a deliciously sweaty, loose-limbed take on Vagabundo Club Social and Sleazy McQueen's "Chips Y Salsoul", placing the original's familiar electric piano motif and muted trumpet samples atop a densely layered Latin house groove, before joining the dots between dub disco and proto house on a rework of Vagabundo Club Social's "Pambele". Over on side B he delivers two takes on Pontchartrain's "1515 Broadway Revisited": a lolloping disco-house "BK Club Remix" and a "BK Live Remix" that sounds like it was done in one take, dub style, in the same manner as proto-house legend Paul Simpson's influential 1980s mixes.

Don't You Want My Love (Cratebug More Love remix) (9:06)
Review: Defected's fabulous Glitterbox off-shoot has thankfully repressed these two fist pumping disco remixes of Debbie Jacobs' classic "Don't You Want My Love". Stepping up on the a-side is the master of the mix, EQer extraordinaire and founder of the legendary Body & Soul party, Joe Claussell. His remix is perfect for said New York party with its loose percussion, big string stabs and relentless disco drums. Cratebug strips things back to a more functional and contemporary club track that builds in layers, with subtle filters bringing the tension until finally he lets the groove drop, no doubt to devastating scenes on the dance floor.

Your Brain On Music (7:19)
Be Bizarre (5:08)
Call Me (5:40)
Review: More from the mysterious Ron's Reworks series, which seems to specialise in good old-fashioned re-edits of tracks played by the late, great Ron Hardy (or at least that's how it appears to us - whoever is behind the project is keeping quiet). The real killer here is A-side "Your Brain On Music", a slightly beefed-up and tooled up version of an Italo-disco-era chugger rich in driving bass, spacey synthesizer lines, proto-acid sounds and almost symphonic electronic chords. Elsewhere "Be Bizarre" is a tight, mostly instrumental revision of an electrofunk era big studio rock number - all squelchy synth bass, glistening guitar riffs and stuttering drum machine beats - while "Call Me" is a fine scalpel edit of a sparkling boogie jam.

Review: If you had to make a list of the top 10 Paradise Garage classics, Taana Gardner's pitched-down, Larry Levan-mixed "Heartbeat" would come somewhere near the top of the list. Here the slow disco classic gets the re-edit treatment courtesy of Japanese DJ/producer Diguma (aka MURO ) on a tidy 7" single. First up on side A is the "Club Edit", a multi-track revision (we think) that cannily layers Gardner's vocals and the key synth parts over the original version's killer groove. The flipside "Party Edit" strips back the vocal to just a few key phrases, focusing instead on showcasing various instrument solos buried in Levan's epic original mix.Very limited and likely Juno is one of the few stores outside of Japan to stock this 45

Review: Since making their debut in 2017, the Blackbones crew has consistently served up some of the most interesting, off-kilter edits around. They're at it again here, flitting between the pitched-down, percussion-laden cosmic wooziness of "Out Of Our Minds", the delay-laden new wave dancefloor revisionism of "The Re-Fix" (a version of a cut from a fairly well known early-to-mid 1980s synth-pop band), the low-slung, post-punk-era synth-pop quirkiness of "Hell Boy" and the fuzzy, looped-up Afro-Ska haziness of "For Da People". All four tracks are of course tried-and-tested edits, though there's no cheap studio trickery, just brilliantly edited and re-arranged tracks that expertly showcase their eccentric source material.
