Always (5:01)
I Don't Mind (4:33)
Review: Their first single in two years, Spectrasoul return with the first tracks from their highly anticipated second album. "Always" is a sure-fire stunner thanks to its expert vocal sample use (both the lead and the backing chants) that's laid down over wonderfully tight rolling breaks and lush instrumentation. "I Don't Mind" reminds us of the duo's darker side as a soulful vocal cries out over a gritty, droning, distorted bassline that jitters and shakes rudely on the fills. Something tells us this is the start of a whole wealth of exceptional material from the south coast duo. We can't wait to hear the full album.

Empyreal (feat Hydro)
Control The Sound (feat Total Science)
Review: The second of two album samplers, here we find DLR getting jiggy with legends old and new. First he tags up with Hydro for a deeply minimal roller that gurgles with funk and wriggles with an array of head-massaging FX and processes. "Control The Sound", meanwhile, sees him teaming up with fellow Bristol-based studio thugs Total Science for one of the heaviest cut of the album. Snarling, tearing and wheezing with low end toxicity, its clear DLR and Total Science bring out the very best in each other. Don't stop here... Cop the whole album.

Heads Up VIP
Review: Audio. The very name makes grown men weak at the knees. Audio. The very name makes premiere league producers smash their laptops in pure envy. Audio; the man behind Ram's latest Ramlife mix. He's created and curated all manner of exclusives for the mix. These are but two; "Foodchain" is classic Virus-style Audio, all sinewy, waspy synth stabs and a juggernaut groove. "Heads Up VIP", meanwhile, takes his first Ram release and gives it a savage overhaul that's so gritty you'll need to wash your hands after reading this. Don't forget the soap.

Clash Of The Kings
Fragments Of The Past
Review: Fresh from gory outings with Digital and Response, vinyl-only brand Horrific now turns to dRamatic & db Audio for two lush liquid rollers. All heads should recognise "Clash Of The Kings" - now with added heritage vocals, it's been a prize gem for Bukem and Marky for several years now. Flip for "Fragments Of The Past", a loose and rattling late '90s style Zinc roller with a bassline that's almost impossible to shift from your head. Horrifically good!

Deep Down (feat Caan)
Flim Flam
Drop It Low
Snarl
Review: A rising talent in DnB circles since 2010, David 'Frankee' Franks has aligned naturally with RAM Records of late with the All Four One EP his third for the label in the past year. Those selectors out there eager for some deep vocal rollers will gravitate immediately towards opening cut "Deep Down" which pairs the yearning vox of Caan with some tight rhythms, fluctuating bass lines and a real sense of production drama. Complementing this, Frankee has three tracks to show off his skills at pure DnB carnage with the tear out steppers delight of "Flim Flam" a highlight alongside the vast sound design of "Drop It Low".

Verve
Berners Street (dub)
Review: The hugely prolific Need For Mirrors was last spotted on Warm Comms on the deadly collaboration session with HLZ and Mikal. Returning solo for this doublet, Joe NFM delivers the good once again: "Verve" is a straight-up icy stepper peppered with gurgling basses and dark alley vocal processes. "Berners Street", meanwhile, is much warmer affair with a rich groove coming from the finely tuned snares and rounded kicks. Just when you think its all deep and no trousers, along comes a droning bassline that's so eerie, dark and alienating it could make Goldie blush.

King Of The Bongo
Stickybuds Guaranteed
Review: Breakbeat warriors Deekline and Ed Solo team up again, and this time they've gone for it. Not content with producing some of the nastiest, wobbliest breakbeat around, they've decided to turn their hand to drum & bass and another release on Jungle Cakes. Lead cut "King Of The Bongo" is a cheeky exercise in bootleg jump-up buffoonery - the sort of tune that boasts a grin a mile wide and a happy dancefloor to match. Flip "Stickybuds Guaranteed" opts for a slightly more old skool jungle approach, mashing up skankin' MC and familiar pop vocals. It goes without saying that both tunes feature stupidly heavy basslines.

The Calling (feat Ivy Mairi)
Freudian
Review: Toronto badman LaVice steps up with his biggest release to date. Already blessed with a Zane Lowe Hottest Record stamp of approval, "The Calling" balances a yearning, emotional vocal with a couplet of basses that a thick in body and curmudgeonly in attitude. The result is an emotional fireblaster destined for big festivals this summer. "Freudian", meanwhile, takes us back to LaVice's tight, techy roots by way of dramatic tribal drums, sheet metal bass tears and a two-step so sharp you won't need to shave for three years after listening to it.

Foot Soldiers
Tingod
Review: Austrian four-piece Fourward are munching up Shogun vinyl credits like Elvis in his final foodie throes. Fresh from opening their monstrous 10 year collection, here they deliver two more crisp, lightening strike originals. "Foot Soldiers" is a gritty, angular Upbeats-style stamper that's super-charged with twisted acid lines. "Tingod" is more of a neuro-affair, rich in techno-like sensibilities, with a focus planted firmly on the stark, sinewy bass/kick rhythmic combo. Both primed for peaktime, Fourward are living up to their name more than ever before right now.

Human Error (feat Break)
Underpin
Review: Once seen devastating the dance with Octane, DLR has been a solo operator for just over two years now. In that time he's developed an impeccable reputation on his own rights... And he's written a stunning debut album - Seeing Sounds - that sees him exploring his sound and minimal D&B science with real attention to detail. Here are two examples of its excellence; "Human Error" is, as you'd expect from a Break collaboration, a wriggling, unpredictable slammer coded with an array of unique bass tones and off-beat twists. "Underpin", meanwhile, is an elastic groover where the elements ricochet off the stern, concrete beats with twisted, dark funkiness.

Slash
Opium Dream
Review: Serial collaborators NFM and HLZ collide once again. This time they're delivering their stark, iced-out messages on Fokuz, and we'd be wise to pay attention. "Slash" rattles with mischief thanks to a bulbous sub and a shaker-centred drum dynamic. Gradually building with a minor chord classic Metalheadz synth, the breakdown surges with heavy layers of soul before we crash back into the badness. "Opium Dream" is a little more abstract (as its name suggests); riddled with cool tripped out instrumental elements such as jazzy keys and wandering trumpet blasts, this will whisk your floor away to places they never even knew existed. Sweet dreams.

Ring The Alarm (feat Lickz - instrumental mix)
Sparkin Up
Make Believe (feat Alicia Romero)
Review: With previous on Bassism, Good Looking and Subdepth, Dutch liquid demon Vandera makes his Expressions debut with three immaculate soul-laden rollers; "Ring The Alarm" conjures of notions of Makoto with its live guitar and deeply buried siren sample. "Sparkin Up" nods towards his native Holland heritage with a pacey, nagging synth hook. "Make Believe" closes the show with the dulcet assistance of Alicia Romero. Underpinned by a waspy Reece bassline it's reminiscent of Logistics' or Commix's early work. You better believe this.

Straight 9's
UVB-76
Review: Under the Ruffhouse banner, Bristol trio Pessimist, Cooper and Vega have been cultivating their own menacing fusion of techno and drum and bass forms across a series of records for Ingredients, as well as appearances on Modulations, Cylon Recordings, and Alignment Records. The first Ruffhouse record of 2015 sees the crew align with Samurai Horo for Straight 9s, a stunning two track journey into the ghostly depths of machinery. The title track may be the trio's most potent examination of the crawlspace between techno and drum and bass yet, with all manner of hellish sonics wedged deep in the mix. Complementing this, the downright rude "UVB-76" steps to it's own beat too and sounds like Milton Bradley collaborating with Shackleton.

Maintainer
Tremor
Review: The master of the most militant production in D&B, Current Value, returns with a genuinely unique double header for the Yellow Stripe label. Title cut "Maintainer" pummels with a kick-pattern and drum palette that sounds like no other where intense attention is paid to the sheet-metal snares and toxic bass textures. "Tremor" is even more out-there as scary, outer planetary sound design scrapes and howls over a techno-like rhythm. It doesn't get much more intense than this.
