Review: Released back in 1996, Test Pilot Vol 1 has remained a highlight of the Viewlexx label ever since and has been one of those records that command regular calls for a repress. Kudos to I-F then for finally heeding these shouts and presenting a remastered edition for the masses. For the uninitiated, this 12" features classic Hague cuts from I-F and Jungian Archetype, another alias of the Viewlexx boss, with all four perfect for introducing a sense of bedlam to the dancehall. "Who Are You...?! (Theme From Paranoid Stranger)" in particular will bend many an unprepared mind. If you don't own an original edition, grip this remastered version and hold tight for a brand new second volume of Test Pilot featuring Gesloten Cirkel and Roberto Auser!

Review: Gavin Pykerman's excursions as Koova may well be infrequent but records for Abstract Forms and AC have more than proved his devotion to the promotion of electro. Currently engaged in the London Modular Alliance with Pip Williams and Yes Effect, Pykerman breaks free to add the excellent Brokntoys label to his Koova collar with the fine 12" Empty Spaces. At five tracks deep, Empty Spaces represents a fine statement on the current health of electro with Pykerman masterfully slipping through the tempo gears and moving from glistening Utopian soundscapes to darker moments. A fine addition to the increasingly impressive Brokntoys label with screen printed artwork unique to each copy.

Review: Rotterdam's emergent Electronic Emergencies continues to be a label that rewards the electro fan; ushering in a new album from Dutch wave icon Das Ding for their first release, EE went on to provide a platform for the unheralded SOS and now they welcome Visonia. Nicolas Estany's project has previously impressed on Last Known Trajectory and Lux Rec and the Chilean's romantic vision of electro feels quite at home on Electronic Emergencies. The five tracks on Nausicaa might be his most accomplished set yet, and in "The Moon Doesn't Want To Look At You" possesses a lead track that will grip your attention. The two A-side tracks will lighten up any dancefloor whilst the B-side finds Estany veering off into more introspective territory before ending on a hopeful note with the glistening title track.

Line Em Up (7:13)
Nobody Asked U For Ur Opinion Man (4:56)
Review: Parisian producer Rawmance gets busy on Knick Knack Yoda's white label series with two uncompromised examples of modern electro. "Line Em Up" is a deep sea body popper that bubbles with heavily processed rhythmic elements and a breakbeat so rigid it can shave the thickest of hipster beards. Dig deeper for "Nobody Asked U For Ur Opinion Man". A loopy, ultimately physical cut, it acts as a brutal attack on any unsuspecting dancefloor and an awesome statement on faceless social media culture.

Review: The Force Dimension were a late '80s industrial outfit who specialised in an EBM-flavoured kind of dance music. Throughout those years, the band put out a series of LP's and singles on the now defunct KK Records, and although they've been relatively overlooked in recent years, their sound is a fresh and provocative now as it must have been back then. This comprehensive compilation by Belgium's Minimal Maximal sheds light on their best and most pioneering productions, tracks which are drenched in a techno sensibility but go way beyond mere drum machine patterns. There's a whopping 43 tracks spread over one LP and a bonus CD, with the band's best tracks from the late 80's up to the early 90's. Harsh beats, steely percussion and raucous vocals culminate into some seriously powerful tools for the dancefloor. This is for fans of Nitzer Ebb, Stephen Mallinder, Patrick Cowley, Pete Shelley etc...

Review: The truth is out there! Or in the case of The Exaltics producer Robert Witschakowski it's here in this double LP compendium of the German electro exponent's most important tracks, "plus some unreleased stuff," made between 2008 and 2013. The 11 track selection goes to prove how versatile a producer Witschakowski is when it comes to the art of electro, equally willing to go full robot dance ("Journey To Jupiter" being a bracing example) as he is to veer off into more experimental and abstract terrain ("Compressed Thoughts" and "Quiet Earth" stand out ). The title track meanwhile is as beautiful as anything Gerard Hanson has committed to wax. All hails the Exaltics!

Review: Zurich label Lux Rec seem to have been invigorated by the increased exposure afforded to them last year by that Helena Hauff record with the recent compilation The Dying Lights now complemented by this exercise in synthesised drama by Momentform. Ianis Lallemand's project as first brought to light by WT Records back in 2011 and he's gone on to commit Momentform material to some low-key but highly prized tape releases. The five tracks on Grave live up to this record's given title, offering up sombre and melancholy wave experiments that sound as if they were executed at the bottom of a well.

Review: Here we go, a large and in charge compilation of head-slamming hardcore and breakbeat acid madness from the Belgian golden era of rave! La Musique Fait La Force have out together a comprehensive selection of the tracks that truly represented those days of madness, days which unfortunately are no more and that have been sucked up the more cliche ideas of what clubbing means. In the days of artists such as Starfight, Kuruki and Snowy Red, DJ's would mix up all forms of body-shaking electronic music without any compromises. Spin your head around this tight package and experience the freedom with which the 80s/90s generations expressed themselves. Big.

Philippe Laurent - "Exposition 3" (6:47)
Philippe Laurent - "Rapide 1" (4:11)
Xeno & Oaklander - "Exposition 3" (4:25)
Review: French label Girouette Records was created, they say, "to make unexpected links between different musical horizons that seem not obvious to gather at first sight" and their first release really sets the bar high. Exposition 3 finds French minimal synth icon Philippe Laurent sharing sides with US act Xeno & Oaklander for a triplet of sharp electro experiments. Laurent's two A-side contributions date back to his early '80s period of experiments with electronics and if you are a fan of his work collected by Minimal Wave you will adore these. "Rapide 1" is a particularly wonderful composition! The flip features Liz Wendelbo and Sean Mc Bride's 2013 take on "Exposition 3", less a cover version and more a live reinterpretation.

Review: Bau is a new label hailing from Leipzig and they launch in fine style with a reissue of the classic and very rare German electro cut "Call...." by Lynx, aka R.A.N.D. Muzik founder Gunnar Heuschkel. Originally surfacing in 1996 through R.A.N.D. Muzik sublabel Science City, "Call...." is ten minutes of heat treated electro that will liven up any DJ set, and was later reissued by Lowtec's Out To Lunch operation. The Workshop connection continues on this new edition of the record, which features a new Lynx production by Heuschkel called "High Rise" complemented by a KM edit from Gunnar Wendel aka Kassem Mosse.

Dopplereffekt - "Delta Wave" (5:44)
Objekt - "Ganzfeld" (5:53)
Review: In something of a dream pairing for Leisure System, this split disc spans the old guard of electro and those well versed in pushing it into new contortions. Dopplereffekt is of course one of the most lauded of all post-Drexciya projects, and new material comes few and far between. "Delta Wave" is a lavish, sweeping wonder of celestial voices and sci-fi mystery that satisfies all your desires without sounding like a re-hash of old material. On the flipside Objekt has risen to the occasion and delivered one of his most outright electro-infused belters to date, keeping the beat rigid but funky, and working similar amounts of drawn out pads into the mix while keeping the crafty edits and playful sounds as limber as ever.

Review: Everlast founder and label-head Orestt touches down on France's I'm A Cliche with a sultry four-track EP! The man hasn't released a great deal of music since his first EP way back in 2005 and instead has chosen to remain cautious over the amount of music he puts out. Branding his music electro would be an injustice because it contains much more than that. "L'age De La Glace", for instance, is a dreamy, beat-driven track with a gorgeous sequenced bassline and extraordinary sonic modelling - let's not forget Jonathan Kusuma's late-night remix - while "Delta" could fit somewhere in between DJ Stingray's output and just about any B-side on a post-punk 7" from the early 80's.

Fotomachine - "Neo Geo" (6:53)
Review: A brand new venture from FaltyDL and Fotomachine, this starts a new series of animated 12"s that pay homage to 4Hero's influential Tom & Jerry imprint. With a mission statement that states they want to put a little sex back into techno, both cuts back up this vision with warm, visceral physicality. "Flesch" is all subby, slinky and twisted while "Neo Geo" is a sprightly, technicolour analysis of classic electro. Both are designed for the sweetest, sweatiest chapters of the night when pretentions aren't just left at the door... They're sent back home in a taxi and told to lock themselves in the shed.

Mariska Neerman - "Alpha Draconis" (4:21)
Review: Back in 2012, long running London collective Bleep43 added a record label to their profile which was inaugurated in fine style by a split 12" featuring Plant43, Jo Johnson, Orphan and ERP. Almost three years later, a second release from Bleep43 is here and they've only gone and secured some Detroit heaters from Sherard Ingram, aka DJ Stingray 313! The simply titled EP002 finds Ingram sharing sides with Mariska Neerman, a lesser known Belgian artist he has previously collaborated with as Urban Tribe. If you've copped any recent DJ Stingray 313 records you know Ingram's currently channelling a real nasty strain of electro and that's fully evident on his two cuts here - "Nudge Theory in particular". For her part, Neerman adopts a more atmospheric approach with equally memorable results, especially the chilling "Alpha Draconious".

Review: Ah that feeling when you pick up a random Borft record, start digging for information and are rewarded with yet another Scandinavian working prodigiously at the margins of DIY electronics. Nimam Spregleda is the solo endeavour of Helsingborg based Henrik Bengtsson, who also moonlights as part of the wonderfully named Goz Mongo Alliance trio (who of course have previously contributed to Borft sublabel UFO Mongo). Prior to this No Future mini LP, Bengtsson has largely committed the Nimam Spregleda material to rare cassette releases and it's nice to see the Swede sticking to his DIY guns across the seven tracks. "Old drum machines and crappy synths" is all Bengtsson uses apparently and it all sounds like a frazzled Felix Kubin. Great primitive electronics for the more daring selectors!!

Review: An authentic electro schooling from the Di'jital, Maaco, Lenn Swan and Psycho, this couldn't be more Detroit if it tried. Flexing from the icy, pneumatic constructs of the unruly, uncompromising "Alien II" to the much funkier b-boy swing of the perfectly processed drums of "Bionic Master Breaks" via the grittier, teeth-baring techno stomps of "Cosmic Position", this compounds the dots between electro and techno so hard you almost expect the Electrifying Mojo to blast through your wireless any minute. For added turntable pleasure, head for the bonus track where an array of mad samples and snippets await your dextrous creativity.
