Review: Neon Finger rises. The new Go! Finger vinyl imprint, focused on synth-funk, boogie, hip hop, electro-funk and other freaky rythms, debuts with the new album by Dj Overdose "Techno Hop". Where the prolific artist from The Haghe exhibits eight new outstanding tracks filled with classy electro-funk and the freshest hip hop manners. A sublime, intense and astonising piece of music, remarkable as an example of the finest electronic nowadays. Rad!

Wireless (4:15)
Moonbase (5:05)
Pusher (4:13)
Fallow (4:42)
Review: Kirk Degiorgio's Applied Rhythmic Technology label shakes itself out of a two year release slumber with this freshly-pressed and freshly-dressed 12" from London Modular Alliance. This Wireless 12" is the debut release from the London Modular Alliance trio of Simon Lynch, Phil Ventre and Gavin 'Koova' Pykerman but there is a confidence exhibited throughout that is a reflection of the bond developed over a series of live sets together. A razor sharp approach to darker strains of electro is the order of the day here, witness how the various elements on lead track "Wireless" fizz aggressively against each other, whilst "Marauder" almost sounds like Randomer trying his hand at the style. "Pusher" sees the trio veer off into hardcore territory and will probably sound immense on a big system, though the intensity never quite boils over in the manner you want it too! "Fallow" closes the 12" out with a heady atmospheric approach complemented by some icy rhythmic snaps.

I See What You Did There (9:25)
Review: Nijmegen label Shipwrec have been in fairly imperious form this year, canvassing the spectrum of electro for some fine sounding and even-finer-looking records. Washington State artist Chris Roman issued his second 214 album on Shipwrec last year and returns here for "I See What You Did There", the first of several singles to arrive over the coming months - Central Processing Unit, Frustrated Funk and Lunar Disko also have records in the works with him. Taking shape as a one track 12" for the latest in Shipwrec's Silk Screen Printed Series, "I See What You Did There" snaps and throbs in all the right places across its nine minutes but is tempered with a sense of emotive contemplation that lends it some extra depth.

L'uomo D'affari (3:45)
Italove (5:17)
Review: Is Emmanuelle single-handedly bringing back the italo-disco sound of the 1980's? Well, if this second release on Deewee is anything to go by, then she most certainly is! "L'uomo D'affari" might not be as bouncy and playful as some of those legendary tunes out of the Mammaland, but it certainly has enough quirkiness and curious vocals for it to be considered a fine prolongation of the genre. The same goes for "Italove", except here the mood is more house-centred, and Emmanuelle's voice rides perfectly well over the disco-not-disco/proto-house groove. Tip!

Killin It (remix) (8:12)
Tryin To Tell Ya (8:09)
Review: It's 2016 and Egyptian Empire Records is still going strong over thirty years form its first 12". It's creator and master, Egyptian Lover, is as active now as he was on the launch of his timeless and genre-defining 1984 LP, and this new remix of "Killin' It" shows us that the man hasn't changed a pair of socks since the mid 1980's - the tune is a dirty, utterly on-point electro scorcher with twisted vocals and that eerie, inimitable sound of the Nile. "Tryin To Tell Ya" is another mean-spirited, highly strung electro dominator with a powerful bassline to blow your jaw firmly out of place. A huge 12" and one that will become rarer and rarer as the years go by, so you know what that means...

Lonny & Melvin - "Suck The Box" (6:30)
Lonny - "Theme From Murdercapital" (6:54)
Lonny & Melvin - "Theme From Sunwheel Beachbar" (6:26)
Lonny & Melvin - "The Job (Themesong)" (5:51)
Review: It seems like Gesloten Cirkel has the monopoly on new Murder Capital releases - a situation we have no issues with at all - but the subsidiary of I-F's iconic Viewlexx is at least doing its growing army of fan a welcome service by reissuing some of their earlier glories. Here we have a 2016 edition of Lonny & Melvin's Murdercapital EP which is the work of I-F himself and Melvin White and it's a crucial part of the label's history. Back in 96 it was the first Murder Capital 12" issued before resurfacing in amended format in 2001. It's this latter edition that has been remastered and reissued for the label's 2016 fans and it still sounds as rugged, raw, deep and dark now. "Theme From Sunwheel Beachbar" needs to be blasted on a big rig!!

Luke Eargoggle & The Hacker - "Body" (6:09)
Luke Eargoggle & Marco Bernardi - "Rat Wire Chomp" (6:52)
Luke Eargoggle & Rutherford - "Stalkers Behave" (7:12)
Luke Eargoggle & Das Muster - "Starke" (3:45)
Review: Electro is a genre with concepts riven deep within its DNA, and Brokntoys is a label that likes to approach the conceptual from fresh new angles with each release. Or should that be blurred angles, as this latest Brokntoys 12" casts the iconic Luke Eargoggle as conductor alongside an impressive cast of the Swedish producer's contemporaries. Michal Amato (aka The Hacker), Marco Bernardi, Das Muster and Rutherford all line up to work alongside Eargoggle for a most impressive 12" that covers all facets of contemporary electro. The Hacker and Eargoggle's "Body" is almost New Beat, sounding like a lost Dissident cut, whilst "Rat Wire Chomp" with Bernardi falls neatly in the camp of Motor City futurism. There's a satisfying rhythmic snap and some dastardly vocoders on Rutherford and Eargoggle's "Stalker's Behave", whilst the Das Muster collaboration, "Starke," might just be the best slice of electro here.

Rotate (8:19)
The Vulture (4:29)
Ghost Puncher (4:28)
Rotate (Jeremiah R remix) (5:26)
Review: The sixth release on Den Haag-based electro imprint BAKK comes from Tape Records Amsterdam affiliate Haron. He's previously been featured on the label before, sharing a split 12 with Aurora Halal in 2014, but here gets a chance to showcase his undoubted skills over a full EP. District Iron begins with "Rotate", where hybrid electro/techno rhythms are overlaid with fluid ambient chords, crystalline melodies and fluttering synthesizer lines. The same deep-but-floor-friendly fusion feel can be found on "The Vulture", while "Ghost Puncher" sees him break up the beats more while playing around with some seriously tactile synth bass and picturesque melody lines. A fine EP is completed by Jeremiah R's remix of "Rotate", which drags the track further towards smooth, Detroit-influenced deep techno territory.

Lo Schema (4:52)
Previsto (3:26)
Review: Following cassette and vinyl EPs on New York Haunted, Mixed-Up and Antinote, Leonardo Martinelli returns to the latter with his first full-length offering. Decidedly fuzzy and crusty sounding - presumably a by-product of his 'straight to tape' approach - Previsto casually ambles between deep, languid techno, shuffling IDM, gentle, late night melodiousness (the excellent "Legrande Metropolitane"), ghostly ambience (the mesmerizing "La Luna"), and the kind of angular machine music that was once the hallmark of Autechre's finest productions ("Lo Schema"). He finishes with a wonky flourish, too, in the shape of the hugely evocative title track.

Projectile (6:16)
Fall Out (5:20)
Element 94 (6:00)
Solitary (6:05)
Review: Ireland's Rogue Frequency makes his comeback on New Flesh after having debuted through the label back in 2015. Much like his first release, Rules Of Engagement is a solid electro locomotive with a clear-headed approach that makes no reference to other genres. This, in a way, is refreshing given the present mishmash of genres and a tune like "Projectile" is exactly the sort of steel pulse that is needed to liven a warehouse up. "Fall Out" is another electrifying punch to the chest, with "Element94" heading deeper into the wormhole, and "Solitary" tying the room together good and proper with its scornful electro gargles and gloomy outlook.

Evolution 5 Technology (7" vocal) (4:37)
Evolution 5 Technology (dub mix) (6:01)
Evolution 5 Technology (JTC remix) (7:00)
Review: It would be fair to say that Series-A's Evolution Technology is something of a long-lost electro classic. Written and produced by Detroit friends DJ Maestro and Kid Fresh in 1987, 50 promo copies of the record were pressed before the label they'd signed to, California's Satellite Records, went bankrupt. This was always a shame, as "Evolution Technology" is something of a killer: a spellbinding chunk of futurist electro that updated the Cybotron blueprint for the emerging Motor City techno generation. As well as the original 7" and Dub versions, this first "proper" release also features a brand new rework from Tad Mullinix (under the JTC pseudonym), which appropriately re-casts the track as a spacey Detroit techno shuffler.

Dez Williams - "Whitey" (2:35)
Review: If this one ain't for the freaks then we don't know what is! Two legends of electro go head to head on BA45. On the A side its all up to the always incredible Carl Finlow; he of Random Facor/Silicon Scally fame delivering some proper futurist beats that will school anyone who's fallen victim to the current electro trend like on the booming Dystopian trip that is "Bleem" or the breakneck aquatic funk of "Chemical Bonds". On the flip, Welsh analogue wizard and legend in his own right Dez Williams serves up dirty acid bangers like on the squealing and savage "Interference Pattern" and the grinding lo-fi techno jam "Whitey".

Death Of A Star (7:26)
Dissonant Division (6:04)
Nordic Nights (5:43)
Wasted Echoes (5:39)
Review: Budapest-based Balazs Semsei, better known as Norwell, has earned a reputation for delivering contemporary re-imaginings of the 1970s "kosmiche" sound. While this inspiration is present on Death Of A Star, the four tracks are far more heavily influenced by the obtuse, industrial-era work of Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle. He also reps the darker end of Italo-disco on the clandestine chug of "Nordic Nights", but it's the mascara-clad, minimal wave-tinged electro of "Wasted Echoes" and the standout "Dissonant Division" that really bring home the bacon. Many will naturally turn to the spacey and swinging title track, which contrasts creepy electronics with an impressively rubbery rhythm track.

Review: Bemasked Snuff Crew man Snuffo comes through with his debut album, the rather strikingly-named Live Free or Die, which doubles up as the first LP release on the Berlin label's In The Dark Again subsidiary. Apparently recorded after a trip to New Hampshire in the US - whose state motto inspires the title - the ten tracks offer an insight into Snuffo's darker sensibilities and bring out some of his EBM and industrial flavours. Amidst the oodles of spectral synths that characterise the album, what really comes through is Snuffo's mastery of drum machine rhythms making Live Free or Die an album full of tracks suited for the dancefloor.
