Visonia & Dopplereffekt - "Die Reisen"
Visonia - "Antarctic Love"
Visonia - "Impossible Romance"
Review: Chilean artist Visiona is about to drop his debut album "Impossible Romance". There's no better place to get an idea of how it's going to sound than this impressive three track EP. The Dopplereffekt-featured "Die Reisen" is the showcase piece; heavily anchored with muscular Black Strobe bass, it's raw weight and power can't be avoided. For softer, more melodic sensations, delve deeper for "Antarctic Love" (seemingly simultaneously cinematic, whimsical and icy) and the forthcoming album title track "Impossible Romance" (think classic Depeche Mode). Stunning.

Review: Since he adopted the Ekman guise, Dutch producer Roel Dijcks has graced a small number of well-respected labels with his notably rough edged and dark brand of electro. Possibly most well known for inaugurating the breakout Berceuse Heroique label, Ekman has also released with Netherlands institution Panzerkreuz, the always surprising Gooiland Elektro and UK-based Abstract Forms, whilst delivering a debut album for the Solar One Music label overseen by The Exaltics. Having recently contributed a track to the Club Funny Horse compilation issued on Gooiland, Ekman's next releases arrives through Shipwrec, a Dutch label that specialises in the sort of 3am squat party electro that makes this meeting a perfect alliance - "Sharadia" is a hellish highlight!

ERP - "Burp"
Sync 24 & Deixis - "Ah Ah Ah"
Plant43 - "GJ 1214b"
Steve Allman - "Evolution Technology"
Review: Sync 24's Cultivated Electronics imprint brings "The World Electronix" series to a fittingly slick climax with this four-track adventure into electro's most twisted pastures. Gerard Hanson's ERP project ignites the show with a heavily textured trip to the most unforgiving peripheries of the cosmos, Sync 24 & Deixis's "Ah Ah Ah" is a full-on acid assault while the bulbous bass and warm kicks on Plant43's "GJ1214b" remind us of electro's undiluted funk roots. Finally Steve Allman closes the show with his Cultivated Electronics debut "Evolution Technology". Stark, slippery and bolstered with bullet-proof beats and a heady, muscular bass riff, it's a fantastic finale to this essential cultivation collection.

Review: ** R&S REPRESS **Ever since his early releases on Kinnego and Royal Oak, Jack Hamill has been earmarked as a serious talent. Certainly, his work as Space Dimension Controller - in-tune with modern trends but seemingly beamed down from another planet - has rarely been anything less than inspired. This much awaited full-length album is similarly thrilling. Soaked through with his usual intergalactic sounds, heart-tugging melodies and warming chords, it's a much warmer and involving set than his previous work for R&S. Crucially, it also drifts off in disparate directions, offering a nod and a wink to Tangerine Dream, George Clinton, Model 500 and '80s soul along the way.

Review: With previous conquests achieved on the likes of WeMe, Black Leather and Frustrated Funk, the Drexciya-discovered Italian artist Federico steps up Last Known Trajectory with this stunning sliver platter. Highlights amidst these largely icy climes are the twisted, sad fun-fair organ motif on "The Mirror", the subverted de-tuned euphoria on "The World Spins" and the modulating bass funk on "The World Spins". If you're aware of Federico's previous work, you'll already know the quality at play. If not, now is most certainly the time to subscribe.

Review: The Solar One Music label operated by Nico Jagiella and Robert 'The Exaltics' Witschakowski use the start of a new year to launch a new series called Elektronische Werke and turn to an electro heavyweight to inaugurate it. If you are invested in this kind of music, the name Dynarec should be immediately familiar with the French producer a storied presence on Delsin, Puzzlebox and his own Vaporwave label. The Exomove EP is a perfect demonstration of Dynarec's talents, with the full flight vocoder infused electro of "All Automatic" complemented by the entirely too rude and rugged flex of "Double Postpone". Face down and the title track sounds like a Drexciya cut exploding in several different directions whilst "Water Meadow" is high octane unadulterated futurism.

Miotek - "5k"
Review: "First Contact" is a breath of fresh air. While much of the current contemporary electro output has forged a beautifully dark path into analogue pastures, this is inherently funky, conjuring up memories of Egyptian Lover but without the dated 80s hallmarks. Bright, vibrant and captivating, this EP is worth it for that alone. "Nibiri" is equally arresting; sweeping psychedelic synths wash back and fore as another bubbling, funk-minded groove wriggles and writhes beneath. "5K" closes the show on a more poignant, wistful note as a one-note synth bend takes the spotlight with mesmerising sonic swoons. Lush.
