Review: A warm welcome back to cheeky downtempo twosome Bent, who hear offer up their first studio set for 14 years. Up in the Air is full of neat reminders that what made them so popular first time round, namely a seductive, slinky, atmospheric, sample-heavy sound that tended towards the tongue-in-cheek and was more likely to draw influence from dodgy, radio-friendly 1980s soft-rock singles and vintage easy listening than obscure Balearic beats or austere electronica. There are of course a few differences - it's far more polished than their early works, and even more musically detailed - but for the most part this is vintage Bent. Given how miserable the world is right now, it's rather nice to listen to an album that prioritises cheeriness, quirkiness and musical colour above all else.

Review: Surely one of the most dedicated, consistent outfits in the contemporary Balearic scene, Coyote return with another album of exquisite, open-hearted grooves to take you somewhere sunny. The Mystery Light is the group's sixth album no less, and it shows their powers as producers and composers growing exponentially. The scope is broad, from laconic acid wiggles to New Age reveries, and of course with a consistent 80s flavour running throughout in so many of their production choices. As well as accurately embodying the spirit of great 80s studio magic, they're also versed enough in the language to express themselves in a unique way, imbuing every piece with character and charm to ensure these jams clamp on to your heart and stay there.

Review: A Vision Of Panorama have the kind of quintessentially inviting sound that by rights should find him soundtracking every sojourn from the swanky lounge bar to the sunkissed terrace, no matter the crowd. After the blissful sounds of the Sentimental Coast EP and Follow The Melody last year, Mikhail Khvasko returns with his third full-length, this time on Mellophonia. If you already dig the Panorama sound, you know what to expect. Plush, symphonic synth tapestries dripping with good vibes and accomplished musicality. You might get the odd dash of sultry sax, as on album highlight 'The Light', but primarily this is a place to revel in Khvasko's illustrious, feel-good keys.

Review: A double album of sumptuous, expansive downbeat luxury written by Pete Woosh - one half of the celebrated duo Digs & Woosh and Nottingham's DIY collective - with Andy Riley (Toka Project, Inland Knights) during the illness which would eventually claim Pete's life. Given the background of its creation, it's a blissfully peaceful and optimistic sounding collection.

The chilled disco/house hypnotism of 'Keep Yr Shape' and 'For Your Love', all slinky, hazy vocals and headnodding back room hedonism, are obvious highlights, but more reflective moments like 'Piano Fades' make this into a varied and enduring 'proper album' listen rather a mere collection of tracks.

All profits will go to the Spirit Wrestlers foundation, founded in honour of Pete's memory and devoted to good causes in his hometown of Nottingham.

Review: Welcome to the wonderful world of DEL, a new label from the Cartulis crew specialising in warm and inviting electronics with a Balearic tinge. Heading up this new enterprise is Low Tape, aka Gennadiy Manzhos, and DJ Mostoles, taking a side each to lay down some cool and classy sonics. Low Tape lets the synths do the talking on easy-paced trippers like 'Aliens Are Humans From The Future', while DJ Mostoles has a smokier quality to the downtempo electro strains being explored on the B side. For those craving a selection of cool-headed beats for lounge situations, look no further.

Review: Emotional Rescue go hunting in the reeds for forgotten projects, and come up trumps once again. Delay Tactics formed at the beginning of the 80s as a tape looping project from Carl Weingarten and Reed Nesbit before expanding their palette with Walter Whitney's synth vamping. They didn't last past their second album, 1984's Any Questions?, but now the finest of the band's catalogue has been documented here. The sound is prime inquisitive 80s, teetering between the traditional band dynamic and the experimental pastures of technology-powered music. At times infectiously playful ('Oyster') and at others compellingly beautiful ('Kites'), Delay Tactics are exactly the kind of band that deserve another moment in the sunshine.

Review: Ramuntcho Matta has been spotlighted by Emotional Rescue before, when they reissued his 1986 album Ecoute... back in 2016. The veteran French artist has plenty of work to explore, but it certainly helps having the curatorial instincts of a label like Emotional Rescue to guide you, and so they return to the very same year and another startling work, 24 Hrs. The A side of this album deals in shorter pieces rich in expressive instrumental conversations, as tabla, trumpet and guitar retort with a flowing, open-ended impetus. You can hear Matta's links to Don Cherry coming through in this spiritually charged style, but it's 'Sunset' on the B side which takes things further across 20 transcendental minutes of unbound musical mastery.

Included is an unreleased vinyl mix of Costin's psychedelic folk balearic cut 'Disconnected' from 2015 on the first side. Being close friends with Costin, Shrinkwrap decided to collaborate and remix the track 'Gain On Gains' over on the flip, from Torn Sail's 2017 long player This Short Sweet Life, with a dub mix also included. Slo-mo cosmic at its finest.

Review: Between them as solo artists, London-based producer Ulrich Schnauss and Danish guitarist and producer Jonas Munk have many decades of experience of laying down unique electronic music. They have also do so in collaboration for much of that time, but now serve up their first new record in almost a decade. 'Eight Fragments Of An Illusion' suits the ties in that it is a reflective and thoughtful album of ambient soundscapes and blissed out melodies. The synth float, the guitar patterns drift by like clouds, and the whole record is underpinned by a steady pulse that keeps it, and you, moving forwards.

Review: Fans have been waiting a long time for a vinyl reissue of Goldfrapp's Seventh Tree album. Loved for its neo-psychedlic sense of English whimsy, the band's fourth full length has long been out of print and was named after the lead singer had a dream about a very large tree. It was praised for its bravery and for abandoning the dance vibes of previous records for a more subtle and affecting sound. The record spawned four singles with one, 'A&E' hitting the Top 10 of the UK charts.

Review: Saint Etienne's landmark 10th studio album comes 30 years after the outfit put out their notable debut, Foxbase Alpha. The much loved London crew have since become cult favourites in the downtempo and chilled out electronic realm. This new record much to the delight of fans, has been made largely from samples and sounds drawn from their halcyon period between 1997 and 2001. A such the whole record was made remotely, rather than together in a studio, and in collaboration with film and TV composer Gus Bousfield. The sounds are optimistic and nostalgic at the same time and come on all formats including this limited edition clear wax.

Michael Cretu began his Enigma music project back in the 1990s and went on to write plenty of history. In all the band sold over 70 million records, had more than 60 chart number ones around the world and in all picked up more than 100 platinum awards, making it the biggest German music act of the last 30 years. This album proves the band has more than stood the test of time.

Review: It's certainly true that Ma Fleur represented a pivotal moment for The Cinematics. The outfit came to fruition, or at least hit the common conscience, in the haze of late-1990s post-trip-hop comedowns, a time when we were all still going harder, faster and stronger in clubs but wanted something cosy and velveteen on the after party hifi at 10AM rather than ketamine techno. Far more innocent times to say the least.

This 2007 record broke from the well established mould of the troupe, though, landing five years after its predecessor (Every Day) and opting for a more direct approach to loveliness. A kind of grab you by the throat and make you feel nice type remit that leaves the subtleties of the past behind in favour of more traditional big room, show stopping song craft.

Review: Micro-label and online record store Growing Bin Records is a real haven for those who like to find the in-between sounds, the less than popular cuts that slip through the gaps. This new collection brings together such weird and wonderful tunes across a thrilling mix of genres and tempos. Opener 'Coffee' is a tribal soundtrack of rugged bass and stringed sounds that hypnotise, 'Helium Ills' is pure ambient bliss and elsewhere Hardy Kukuk's 'Freundschaft' is a Balearic tune for slow motion Sundays. This is music that cross genres with ease, and music that soothes the mind, body and soul.

Review: Is Archive's Londinium one of the best trip-hop albums of all time? For some, it is. For many, it's somehow criminally unknown. This reissue 25 years on should change all that. The music of Archive, which was formed by Darius Keeler and Danny Griffiths with singer Roya Arab and young rapper Rosko John, has aged well. The soaring strings, slowly lurching beats and meditative grooves all sit up there with any of their more famous peers, from Tricky to Massive Attack. This anniversary edition includes a 4-page booklet with song lyrics and credits, plus a hidden track.

Review: Hell Yeah! Rcordings has released all sorts of music over the years, but in recent times its' catalogue has becoming increasingly Balearic in tone. Here they further their nu-Balearic credentials via a four-track EP of tracks tailor-made for summer. If you're looking for well-known faces, Balearic legend Chris Coco joins forces with Micko Roche on the utterly gorgeous 'What is Love' (B2), while Max Essa predictably does a terrific job in turning The Vendetta Suite's 'Neon Secrets' into a saucer-eyed downtempo classic that draws much influence from late '80s New Order records. Elsewhere, Jaspar Robinson and Kayroy's 'Satellite' is a slow-motion affair where glistening guitars and hazy vocals tumble down across a slow-motion electro beat, while Feel Fly's 'Esperanto' would have sounded great on a Mediterranean beach in the mid 1980s.

Review: Gary Irwin's musical journey since 1990 has been long and varied, with spells as an in-house engineer at various studios being combined with occasional releases, mostly of a Balearic flavour, as the Vendetta Suite. The Kempe Stone Portal is his first album and draws on a vast archive of tracks built up over 20 years. Musically, it's subtly diverse in the best possible way, with Irwin delivering colourful, atmospheric and emotive cuts that variously draw influence from ambient, new wave, synth-pop, new age, mid-80s AOR, library music, post-punk, dub, shoegaze and much more besides. That it all not only hangs together but also makes perfect sonic sense is testament to Irwin's skill as a composer, musician and producer. Well worth a listen.

Consisting of Stockholm-based musicians Gabriella Borbely (aka Bella Boo) and Jens Resch (Chords), their musical project is said to have begun on a beach in Southern California - and you can certainly hear that influence on the tracks featured on the Save Us EP. The title track featuring vocalist Mapei is a low-slung serving of balearic pop that altogether makes for the perfect summertime groove. Over on the flip is the saucer-eyed chill-out number 'Charly' mixing acid, vocoder and breezy synths into the most evocative and neon-lit experience you'll hear this year

The tracks are all brain cleansingly clean and melodic, airy and free from clutter. There are elements of pop and jazz, funk and soul from the likes of Sade and Wham! littering the horizontal Balearic grooves and the results are perfect. This is lush poolside music with proper songs and hummable top lines, deep bass and lush vocals. Only two of these slo-mo bliss-outs have been heard before, so dive in .

Review: Baia Club is a new collaboration between Really Swing label head Quiroga, vocalist Whodamanny and Dario Bass. They serve up a low slung boogie-down beat with "Shine On" on the A side, in all its neon-lit early '80s glory that's sure to get 'em moving on the dancefloor. Over on the flip, the House mix does exactly what it says on the tin; classic early '90s vibes with some awe-inspiring piano solos, sparking chord progressions and cool rhythms - like the label's name suggests!

Falling Down (Brass Apes mix) (8:21)
Falling Down (Psychemagik remix) (10:56)
Review: It has been 20 years since the last release on Toko, which means it will be unfamiliar to many of today's collectors. This comeback EP is set to change all that with original 'in house' producer Si Brad serving up some superbly sensuous go slow sounds. His leggy beats, Balearic compositions and late night star gazing synths are topped doff in fine style by Azeem. His buttery smooth vocals make this a fantastic opener. Deep diggers and edit maestros Psychemagik layer in some silky cosmic synth and a rubbery rolling rhythm that makes for perfect meditative material.

Review: Grown up Balearic maestro Max Essa takes us on a lovely trip far out to sea with his latest on Balearic Ensemble. Matinee is like sipping on a cocktail as you float on a glistening med with some rustic old town up on the hillside behind you. 'Tempo Babadoh' then soundtracks the open air dance you have in the early evening somewhere on a terrace as the sunsets, and the two remixes pump up the energy for late night action. For those of us unable to make it to the White Isle, or any sunny beach at all, frankly, these tracks are the perfect tonic.

Rayons (2:41)
Silences (2:47)
Review: Parisian sound artist Jonathan Fitoussi resides in Paris. He works on minimalist and contemporary musical forms, with solo works in recent years having explored a fusion of electronic ?and acoustic sounds with melodic textures, colours and emotions. On his latest release titled Music For Xavier Veilhan, it features 'Music for Les Rayons (Sarus) (2016)' which was created for a sculpture by the named artist. It is defined by its blissful and hypnotic melody against a backdrop of glistening ambient drones. On the flip, we have a more cinematic sonic excursion in the form of "Music for Mutant Stage 8 (2017)" created for a film by Veilhan with Marie-Agnees Gillot & Dimitri Chamblas, which will captivate you with its delicate tapestry of chimes.

Review: Those who were clubbers in the late '90s and early 2000s should have fond memories of Megasoft Office, a series of usually rather good post-club, chill-out style compilations from Laurent Garnier's much-missed F Communications imprint. To celebrate 25 years since the imprint's launch, Garnier has decided to put out a series "best-of" that also marks Megasoft Office's first ever appearance on vinyl. There's much to enjoy throughout, including some dreamy ambient bliss from A Reminiscent Drive, Scan X, Frederic Galliano and Charles Webster's A Love From San Francisco project; a superb fusion of sixties dream-pop and Terry Riley style minimalism from Juantrip; a couple of typically jazzy Aqua Bassino joints and a solo piano cover of Garnier's 'Acid Eiffel' by Maxence Cyrin.

Review: International Feel has been away on what it calls an 'extended meditation' but now, happily, makes a welcome return. And what an album to come back with - Charlie Charlie is the work of Gabriella Borbely, alias Bella Boo, and Jens Resch, better known as Chords. They hail from Stockholm but dreamt this one up in Southern California. And so the music is steeped in hippie sounds, counter culture dreams and beauty pop that transports you to that world immediately. Dreamy and beautiful tracks come thing and fast from the downtempo sounds of 'Nothing Here But You & Me' to innocent Balearic ditties like 'Save Us.'
