Review: Having only launched in 2015, no one was expecting DDD to lay out a Record Store Day bounty quite so soon. But boy are we glad they have. 500 copies on 180g triple vinyl from some of the nu disco and proper deep house scene's most respected and exciting individuals, it's a beautifully restrained collection of never-to-be-released-again grooves that's built to last. From the swooning Moodymannisms of MyStep's "Get Over" to the jazzy sprinkles and lighter footed filtered flavour of M Ono's "Little Fat Sparrow", these tracks will never tire. Jump on them before it's too late.

Come To Me (Nik Weston official extended re-edit) (5:39)
Come To Me (remastered) (4:39)
LA Walk (Nik Weston extended re-edit) (6:10)
Review: It would be fair to say that Estiban Lindsay's one and only album, 1980's L.A Walk, is something of a sought-after rarity. Considered by many disco/boogie diggers to be a must-have, original copies of the Canadian classic currently change hands for three-figure sums online. Ever the dusty-fingered digger, Nik Weston has managed to license two tracks from the album after hearing global trotting DJ Hunee championing the main track in his sets in 2015 , and provides his own extended dancefloor re-edits. Both are subtly done, with Weston teasing out Lindsay's grooves and making more of his deliciously soulful versions, all without adding needless house drums or contemporary production tricks. The EP also contains the original version of the warm, disco-boogie gem "Come To Me". As played by Craig Charles (BBC 6 Music), Hunee, Eddie C, Tom Noble, Admin, Mike Shaw, Volcov, Frank Booker, Red Greg, Ashley Beedle, Joey Negro, Dom Servini, Miles Eastwick, Faze Action and many more...

All Night Night Rumble (Nebraska edit) (5:41)
Don't Abuse It (Skylevel edit) (4:39)
Dreaming (Skylevel edit) (4:40)
Review: The anonymous Skylevel operation has been stealthily slipping out eminently playable edits since 2010, the height of the disco edit era! It's a mark of the quality of their 12"s that Skylevel remains an ongoing concern whilst other edit operations have fallen by the way side. Number eight in the series sees the hugely skilled Nebraska step up with a real pearler of a lead edit, "All Night Rumble," a afro-disco loopathon that you can easily forsee finding a permanent home in the record box of Dan Snaith. On the flip, it's all Skylevel with "Don't Abuse It" a slinky little disco groover that lifts the vocal from Little Milton's "Let Me Down Easy," whilst "Dreaming" heads straight for the stars for a sublime slice of late night disco action.

Son Of The Sun (4:21)
Jungle Melody (5:49)
Fool Like A Child (5:59)
Review: Moscow's Arsenii is up next on New York City edits imprint Razor N Tape. Following up the great Allegria on Basic Fingers last year, he's back with some more obscure oddities spliced to perfection once again. He takes the razor to "Son of the Sun," which the label themselves describe as "the Shaft-in-outer-space drama" (and we agree completely) to the 'proto-balearic lilt' of "Jungle Melody" by Pierre Dalmon and of course the big band funk of "Fool Like A Child"; more commonly known to some as Christian Gaubert's "Sweet And Fool Like A Child" from 1979.

I Thought You Wanted To Dance (full length Midtown mix) (7:32)
Call Me (3:00)
I Thought You Wanted To Dance (3:32)
Review: The first ever Athens of the North 12" is a real pearler, presenting the unreleased full length mix of Symbol 8's classic disco burner "I Thought You Wanted To Dance." The track was originally pressed on 7" back in 1978, split down the middle with one part on each side, but it's a track that was made for the full 12" format and is done so here on a Full Midtown Mix. Charlie Adams versatile vocal flipping into falsetto with ease while the band holds the solid groove is a special thing. On the flip-side is a Shock Version of "I Thought You Wanted To Dance," which surfaced later and sounds very different, sitting pretty alongside a personal DJ Fryer favourite "Call Me". Essential as always.

Everybody Wants To (4:38)
Everybody Wants To (12" disco dance mix) (6:58)
Review: Hot on the heels of the release of their brilliant debut album, Basar, Africaine 808 drop a fresh single. Intriguingly, "Everybody Wants To" is something of a departure from the polyrhythmic, global fusion style explored on Basar. Instead, it sees the Berlin-based duo explore the world of synthesizer-heavy space-funk. Of course, there's still plenty of Latin and African influences amongst the loose and organic percussion, but these seem to play second fiddle to the vocoder vocals, bustling bassline and intergalactic synthesizers that dominate. Of the two versions, it's the flipside 12" Disco Dance Mix that really hits the spot, with DJ Nomad and Dirk Leyers extending the groove and emphasizing the superb bassline for greater dancefloor enjoyment.

Mangwana (A Vision Of Panorama remix)
Mangwana (Paradise 89 dub)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Faze Action return with a brand new 12", teaming up with Zimbabwean born Zeke Manyika to create "Mangwana". Sung in Zeke's native Shona, and taking influences from Mory Kante, South African Kwaito to early house, Faze Action manage to create a record that harks back yet still has a modern and contemporary feel and is set to be the soundtrack to countless festivals and outdoor parties this summer.

The title track is followed by the stunning "Chiiko", featuring Zeke's vocals enriched by Rob's 'cello's with African rhythms floating you away to another tropical world. A Vision of Panorama turns up the dial with a stunning mix on the flip side. A new bass line adds to some quality keyboard work. Finally the brothers deliver are more stripped out dub "Paradise '89 Mix" tailored for the peak time.

Back Home Sweet Home (The Reflex revision) (7:32)
Review: The Wah Wah 45s label is responsible for rescuing of the work of long forgotten Canadian/Haitian pianist, Henri-Pierre Noel. Both his 1979 debut Piano and its early 80s follow-up One More Step have been rediscovered and repressed by the label, and here we get a selection of cuts from the latter all reworked by the French producer The Reflex. There are four killer reworks here - the pumped up Afro-disco belter, "Funky Spider Dance", the boogie-up clavinet heavy take on "A Fifth Of Beethoven", the ramshackle island grooves of "Back Home...Sweet Home" and toughened up raw funk of "Diskette". Class.

Review: Two sandy-toed Balearic gems from Phantom Island: Force Of Nature refix Japanese ska band Your Song Is Good into a sunset session, slowing the horns and adding their own glistening guitar over-lays with mesmerising effect. Flip to experience a slide guitar-laden revision of Byrne & Tepper's Apiento & Co project by Lexx Sunset Ashram that's subtly insistent with little dubby twists. Limited, hand numbered and dressed in silk screened sleeve and obi strip, it looks as beautiful as it sounds.

Windy City Theme (2:44)
Show Me The Way To Love (3:27)
Review: Throughout the 1960s and'70s, producer and A&R man Carl Davis was one of the pivotal figures on the Chicago soul scene. Yet despite producing hundreds of records, he only ever released a few under his own name, the highlight of which was undoubtedly 1976's "Windy City Theme". Released on his own Chi-Sound label and backed by the orchestra he used on recordings by such artists as the Chi-Lites, the track is a musically detailed chunk of distinctive mid-tempo disco rich in mazy sax solos, sweet female backing vocals, and seriously undulating grooves. On this timely reissue, the track is naturally backed by its' original B-side, a sugary chunk of polished, richly orchestrated soul called "Show Me The Way To Love".

Pedre Son Eclat (6:20)
You Feel It (5:55)
Pedre Son Eclat (Man Power remix) (6:57)
Tears (5:21)
Review: Ron & Neil is an all-star collaboration between old buddies Jim "Ron Basejam" Baron (Crazy P), and Rack 'N' Ruin boss man Neil Diablo. Pedre Son Aclat marks the project's first appearance, with the three original tracks sitting somewhere between shimmering nu-disco, sparkling powder house, and disco-influenced grooves. The title track sets the tone, layering up colourful synthesizer chords and melodies. While tasty, Man Power's bubbly, Balearic style revision - all analogue synths, cheap drum machine hits and sleazy vocals - is arguably more satisfying. "You Feel It" is a creepy, low-slung deep house/disco hybrid blessed with killer percussive flourishes and a weighty punk funk bassline, while "Tears" is a glassy-eyed fusion of warehouse-friendly electronics and disco-funk hedonism.

Can't Give It Up (Dicky Trisco mix) (10:34)
Review: Longstanding party partners in crime, New York's JKriv and The Disco Machine team up once again for another late night hip-shake session. Adeline Michele shouldn't be a stranger to you, too... She's worked with JKriv before on "Another Night" five years ago. The rasping Nightmoves electro feel to the synths is complemented by Kriv's own live bass while Adeline delicately purrs in the groove's well-placed spaces. Version-wise, the instrumental lets you hear all the little details while Dicky Trisco's take just plain knocks your head off with its obscenely overweight kicks. Impossible to give up.

Sleazy McQueen - "The Wrong Virrey" (7:11)
Dicky Trisco - "And The Groove Goes On & On" (6:53)
Labor Of Love - "After Dark" (6:16)
Review: Is there room in the realm of vinyl only disco edits labels for another operation? Labor Of Love certainly proved there was with the inaugural bout of edits that dropped on their much loved debut 12" earlier this year. Whereas the scalpel artists on that 12" remained uncredited, Labor Of Love reveal all on this second transmission with edit regulars Sleazy McQueen and Dicky Trisco joining the fray alongside the label owners themselves. It's the drunken disco styles of Whiskey Disco man Sleazy McQueen that kicks things off on horn-laden, dubbed out groover "The Wrong Virrey" which is a solid A-side dancefloor pleaser. Down below, "And The Groove Goes On & On" finds old Dicky operating at more of a funked out slo-mo pace, whilst Labor of Love's "After Dark" is reminiscent of early Mark E and features some resplendent disco string arrangements.

Guidance (Dreems remix)
Review: For its 4th release, Malka Tuti is welcoming J.A.K.A.M. to its ever-expanding family. Born in Tokyo Japan, J.A.K.A.M. has been been one of the leading figures developing the music scene in Japan from the early 90s as a DJ, producer and a band member. His wide variety of musical influences ranges from house, hip hop, drum&bass, techno, reggae, jazz, rock and world music. With combining these different styles of inspirations and tradition, he creates the most unique time and space on the dance floor, a kind of fusion of early tribal house (recording live instruments in the studio), world music with a pinch of shamanic spiritual vibes. On his ep for Malka Tuti he delivers 2 Original epic tunes, followed by a smokey dub version by Versatile Records boss Gilb'r and a total dance-floor smashing remix by Aussie prodigy - Dreems.

Review: Croatian crate diggers and disco doyens Legalize Lambada come correct with their second EP: Swedish Frisbee chucker Albion takes the lead with two contrasting slices: Like a big old furry beast, "Yetti" bears demonic vocal teeth but shows a much softer side through its instrumentation while "Into Infinity" is, as its name suggests, pure cosmicity. Flip for a trip to Austria with Mike Burns as we're treated to early '80s European disco, "Enyin," and a bumper-to-bumper yacht hymn "This Ground". Lambada licking good. Review: Following BBE's release the Chicago troupe's Devil Made Me Do It earlier this year, Athens Of The North ensure the criminally over-looked/under-paid band continue to remain in the spotlight with an entire album of unreleased material. Recently excavated from a Chicago warehouse, complete with masters, the songs were written and recorded in the mid '70s not long before the band eventually split. If you know their material, you'll already know how funky the band are. If not, dig deep at the soonest opportunity. From the toxic-levels of cosmic funk on "Boogie" to the dreamier, space ballad "Dark Moon", this is the sound of a super-tight, incredibly talented funk band who really should have been up there with Cymande or Average White Band.

Review: Like many labels at this time of year, Banoffee Pies has decided to get into the Record Store Day spirit, delivering a limited edition, hand-stamped 10" featuring a trio of Afro-inspired cuts from their growing roster of artists. There's naturally much to admire, not least the deliciously bass-heavy "Simigwado (Eidt)" by Az, a heavy Afrobeat rework that gets the right balance between the restless throb of house music and the vibrancy of the producer's source material. Walter Ego impresses, too, with the cowbell-laden Highlife shuffle of "Eme Nenyo", while Philou Louzolo steals the show with the Clavinet-heavy Afro-disco goodness of his superb "Royal Booty Funk".

Just as tasty, fluffy and addictive as its predecessors, "Hankuri" struts with a certain amount of Afro charm while plodding with Italo-like thrust. "49 Gang" takes an even slower route with a dubby sheen and playful funk that's reminiscent of the Norway's cosmic eruptions 10 years ago.
