Tommy Vicari Jnr - "Volatiles Pt 1" (5:42)
Anton Zap - "Crucifix Lane" (6:22)
Review: Emotive tracks by two super producers who impressed Cartulis Day with their memorable sets. The collective invites Tommy Vicari Jnr and Anton Zap once again, this time to showcase their music for the label's third release.
Tommy Vicari Jnr brings us a deeply playful side A track, well suited for those special after hours. Anton Zap names his track after Crucifix Lane, Cartulis' "home" for more than 5 years before it was forced to close earlier this year. He recreates that stomping ground atmosphere with this B track, sure to keep a dance floor pulsating during the peak of the night.

Buffalo Demon (feat Alog) (9:57)
Who Are You? (feat Jorge Gonzalez) (8:58)
Review: A return to Raum Musik for Ricardo Villalobos arrives with the Chilean in the midst of one of his most creative production streaks. Who Are We lands before a mooted Vilod LP on Perlon from Villalobos and Max Loderbauer and after remixes for Honest Jon's and a contribution to the Aira Series from Roland and Rawax. It is of course his second 12" for Raum following the classic Baby from 2012 and these two new productions find him in a collaborative mood. "Buffalo Demon" features Rune Grammofon duo Alog whilst the title track pairs Villalobos up with compatriot Jorge Gonzalez. Both are superb, but "Who Are You?" is Villalobos channelling his weirder side and that's how we like our Ricardo tracks.

Freaks - "The Man Who Lived Underground" (Ricardo Villalobos remix one) (12:35)
Turner - "Been Out" (Tuff City Kids vocal remix) (7:42)
Freaks - "Instrument" (unreleased 1999 edit) (6:07)
Review: To mark 20 years since they first joined forces, Freaks men Justin Harris and Luke Solomon have decided to get some of their best moments remixed. This first installment of the Let's Do It Again project - more volumes are due later in the year - is pretty darn strong, containing as it does a typically fluid, hypnotic, weird and trippy remix of 2000 album track "The Man Who Lived Underground" from Ricardo Villalobos. The Tuff City Kids remix of "Been Out" sticks closer to the vibe of the original version, whilst updating it a little for modern house dancefloors. If that wasn't enough, the EP also includes a previously unheard 1999 edit of "Instrument", a Freaks track which first appeared on the 1996 debut 12".

Waiting For A Surprise (feat Abrao) (5:43)
The Metal Bender (6:09)
Hope (feat Zidan) (6:35)
Review: Tel Aviv duo Red Axes continue to make a name for themselves after releases on I'm A Cliche and Hivern Discs. This time they're doing their thing for Thomas Von Party's Multi Culti out of Montreal and it's not bad at all! "Waiting For A Surprise" is cheeky indie house with some catchy vocals and a fine groove guaranteed to pack a dancefloor. "The Metal Bender" is on a more cruisy and atmospheric vibe, sounding like something on Kompakt and perfect for the after-hours. On the flip is "Hope" which merges said indie sensibilities of before with a minimal house vibe which is on the more sinister and druggy tip, showcasing their knack for a variety of grooves in their arsenal.

Garden Of Buddha (6:48)
All Bun (8:06)
Traveling Soul (6:48)
Review: Switzerland's Alci first made his name on Phil Weeks' Robsoul a few years back, and he's come a long way since then, now landing on Dan Ghenacia, Shonky and Dyed Soundorom's Apollonia imprint, home to Chris Carrier, Premiesku, and even Kerri Chandler, of all people! The young Swiss house aficionado slams down three killer, itchy and teched-out groovers, with "Garden Of Buddha" kicking things off with a minimal edge and some naughty little sonics, to boot. The flipside sees "All Bun" scurry its intricate percussion swing around stripped-back melodies, whereas "Travelling Soul" adds in a little bit of flavor and a lot more funk thanks to its deep bassline and echoing sways of melody. Nice stuff.

In Your Mind (Silicone Soul Darkroom dub) (6:48)
In Your Mind (Silicone Soul Hypnohouse mix) (6:27)
Review: UK tech house legend and the man behind Tribalation; none other than Grant Dell, is back. The original of "In Your Mind" with its catchy vocals, soaring synths and overall tight groove is perfect for the afterhours. If that wasn't enough he gets in some other undisputed masters Silicone Soul in for a couple of killer remixes. The "Darkroom Dub" is a tougher revision while the "Hypnohouse Mix" is all that; taking you on a more minimal and tripped out journey than the previous.

Overcome (9:00)
Lady Science (NYC Sunrise) (9:22)
Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Trelik returns with a repackaged edition of one of the catalogue's most treasured releases. "Overcome" and "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)" need little introduction, and now come sporting the new TR11:11 matrix number. Written and produced by Thomas Melchior and Baby Ford aka Soul Capsule, these tracks came from one of the many sessions recorded at the West London Ifach Studio in 1999. On the A Side "Overcome" is stripped back and energetic, driven by rolling and shuffling garage style beats, tight bubbling bass and atmospheric synth pads. The intermittent vocal samples and the release's signature organ set you up for the flip, "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)". Possibly one of house music's most emotive pieces, the track builds slowly with the introduction of each part building a story of soulful optimism based around a sparse palette of deep synths, uplifting keys and warm analogue bass. The understated beauty of the main vocal riff never seems to grow old or tired with the track lending itself perfectly to either main room, peak-time play or after-hours sessions alike. Remastered by Rashad at D & M.

Abacus Avenue (11:01)
Himegami Marathon (10:54)
Review: Fumiya Tanaka has been a guiding light of the little-known Japanese techno scene since the early '90s, and celebrated 20 years in production in 2014. Here he enters his 21st year as a producer by delivering his first 12" for Bruno "Cleymore" Santos's Pluie/Noir label. Opener "Abacus Avenue" is typically undulating, with skippy, minimal-influenced rhythms, wonky bass, clandestine vocal samples and trippy effects combining to excellent effect. There's more hypnotic, bass-heavy swing to be found on flipside "Himegami Marathon", a formidable late night shuffler whose power seems to derive from the subtlety of Tanaka's alien electronics and skewed, barely audible melodies.

Spider Feel
Review: Last year's Ballad of the Ice LP for I'm A Cliche seemed to open quite a few doors for Tel Aviv pair Dori Sadovnik & Niv Arzi with Red Axes appearances on Kompakt, Highlife, and Relish. The commencement of a new Shem series of records brings the Red Axes back to Cosmo Vitelli's label with a remit being tracks geared towards the dancefloor but always retaining the one-of-a-kind approach that it distils in all its productions. The four tracks on Volume 1 set the tone nicely, be it the Delia Derbyshire does cavernous acid house vibes of "Na Da" or the spectral "Balma" which features the Portuguese crooner Abrao. Best of all however is the effervescent jack track "Nu" which really exemplifies the talent of Red Axes to make club-ready tracks out of organic elements.

A Less Complex Situation (11:10)
Review: Daniel Paul and Jens Augustowsky have been steering Cabinet Records for twenty years now, establishing the label as one of Berlin's most reliable outlets for techy, housey fare and contributing their own weight in productions under various aliases. Cab Drivers is one of their longest-running collaborations with Playroom their 11th 12" release under the name in those two decades, and their studio understanding is quite evident in the productions. Both the ten minute title cut and "A Less Complex Situation" are understated but wholly effective DJ tools with the subtle acid modulations of the former just edging it.

Northern Lights (11:02)
Drawn From The Side Of Crime (12:49)
Review: It's been a while since we heard from the Cobblestone Jazz boys and given their massive influence over contemporary house and techno, it's always a pleasure to listen to their truly singular take on dance music. The Matthew Jonson-led outfit return with an EP for the Itiswhatitis label, the original birthplace of Jonson's beats. "Northern Lights" is classic Cobblestone, where an ultra compressed kick meanders amidst calculated drips of sound pouring mathematically from every angle. "Drawn From The Side Of Crime" is a little more chirpy, its sounds bleeping away with greater intensity and freedom. It's a must have for fans of the group, recommended!

Eclipse (8:48)
Thieves (9:57)
Review: British producer Tim Green is still at it. After making his splash on the scene several years on respected imprints such as Trapez, Dirtybird and Get Physical with his highly technical minimal grooves, his profile has reached another plateau as seen by this release on Sven Vath's vanguard Cocoon. First up is "Eclipse" with its warped, monster bassline and mesmerising synth work flowing all over the place that'd appeal to all the Border Community heads. On the flip we have "Thieves" going for a more standard tech house groove, getting some nice synth pads happening over a pumping peak time groove.

Review: 22 Digit Records are proud to present the second release from their vinyl only off shoot 22 Digit LTD. Pressed up on a limited run of red and black coloured marble vinyl, the release features original music from YokoO along with remixes from Trus'me (Prime Numbers), Clio (Drumcode/Saved) and label boss duo William Welt & Peter Bartram.

YokoO has been involved with 22 Digit since its inception and the label are proud to be welcoming him back for his third release. His last outing on the label was picked up by Jozif and featured as part of his Balance Mix CD released in 2013 and since then the follow up has been highly anticipated.

Cassandra (7:25)
II (2:29)
Review: Donato Dozzy has surely booked his place at the top of the techno game by now, thanks to an impressive catalogue spanning over ten years and an exquisite selection of labels. Although he has been focusing on his collaborative projects over the last few years - check Voices From The Lake in case you've been living under a rock - his solo productions are always an absolute pleasure. For his latest outing he lands on compatriot Carola Pisaturo's Claque Musique, a label that floats between house and techno at its own pace. The A-side, "Cassandra", is more laid-back compared to Dozzy's recent performances, its mid-tempo swagger gives the percussion and floating melodies enough space to mould into a skin-tight groove. "II" on the B-side is totally different, where Dozzy eliminates beats, basslines and sonics in favour of Asia-sounding didgeridoo's, all electronically treated and tripped out, of course. Recommended, particularly for those wishing to hear something new from the man.

Review: Lee Burridge and Matthew Dekay's All Day I Dream Parties are proving a force to be reckoned with if their popular worldwide day shindigs are anything to go by. They've hand selected three artists that nail the ADID vibe so perfectly. Resolute NYC resident Lauren Ritter is up first with the sublime "Glass Hours" which could easily have been on Kompakt with its mesmerising, floating groove." Oona Dahl" by High Eyes is that sultry deep house track you've heard a lot this year, finally seeing its day on a vinyl release. Review: Tijn AKA Martyn Hodgson appears on his on Worx imprint with some sleek tech house shenanigans. Title track "9090" with its infectiously bouncy bassline and shuffling rhythm just ticks all the right boxes, check it out. "Peeping Tom" is as sleazy as its title suggests, in the after-hours kind of way reminiscent of Robert Dietz productions a few years ago; and that's a good thing. The House Of Warez remix of "9090" on the flip is sexy slinky tech house, executed to perfection by none other than Music For Freaks Justin Harris, under a new alias. Lastly "Shake Dat" is a druggier style of deep house with warped and trippy vocals for added effect.

Coming courtesy of the Ultrastretch label, "Uelden" is a playful minimal techno tune, embracing aspects of jazz and bringing in plenty of interesting little sonics amid those rolling clicks and beats.
