Smov - "Rays Road"
Krash Slaughta - "The Posse Is Large"
Review: Wack Records have specialised in bringing back the F-U-N-K to the breakbeat/hip-hop lineage, thanks to some pretty dextrous sampling by a whole loads of different artists. This time round, SMOV uses the famous "Hit the road Jack" vocals and hurls them down a jagged tunnel of crisped-out beats and snares. The flip sees Karash Slaughta work on "The Posse Is Large", a TRULY old-skool rap anthem choc-a-bloc with insistent drums and super-slick rewinds.

AKA...What A Life! (UNKLE rework)
Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me (UNKLE rework)
Review: Your man UNKLE takes care of remixing Noel Gallagher's Flying Birds on this release, turning the relatively tame original of "AKA...What A Life" into a cataclysmic fury of sharp drum breaks and long, echoing vocals. On the B, "Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me" is also given a re-up, making those drums more jagged and penetrating than ever before - UNKLE still in top form!

Boomin'
Poppin' It
Smoothness
Break It On Down
Review: Aussie producer Slynk makes his debut on the evergreen Ghettofunk label with Boomin' - do expect rambunctious beats and samples aplenty across the four jams here. Lead track "Boomin" deftly reworks a jeep beat classic from Mr Kenny Dope, and slips in plenty of rap standard drops atop the digital bass line bump. The familiar vocal refrain of method Man opens up "Poppin' It" a self explanatory call and response hip hopper, whilst "Smoothness" contains a brilliantly elastic bass line and plenty of Jigganometry. Finally "Break It On Down" adopts the kind of slinky block rocking poise that you will hear filter a Krafty Kuts set.

Let The World Know (Zamali feat DJ Odilon remix)
Party All Night (The Breakbeat Junkie remix)
Party All Night (DJ Farside remix)
Your Thang (Kalumenos remix)
Review: Breakbeat Paradise return with a collection of remixes of Swiss eight piece funk orchestra GMF (aka Grand Mother's Funck) featuring Jurassic 5's own Akil The MC. No less than six revisions are on show here, from Mr. Confuse, Breakbeat Junkie, Zamali, Farside, Kalumenos and label chief BadboE, who turns in possibly the best tweak of the lot, turning "Do" into a beefy breaks jam with killer filtering and bucket loads of funk. Be sure to check German producer Mr. Confuse's decidedly slinky take on "Do", and DJ Farside's drum and bass reinterpretation of "Party All Night".

Review: Boogie Boutique have only had one year in the game, and in that time they've smashed the Juno Download sales charts with their digital releases. To celebrate their first birthday, they've dipped their toes into the glorious world of vinyl with this double 12" with seven of the label's finest tracks to date plus one exclusive. The first 12" features Hayz' UB40 sampling "Ghetto Rat" and Ninelives The Cat's "Let Me In", (a brilliant fusion of "Be Good To Me" and "Cross The Tracks"), whilst the flip features Kid Stretch's "Get Down To The Funky Sound", featuring a cheeky Destiny's Child sample amongst its old school hip-hop good time feel, and Badboes' "Show Me Ghetto", an infectious rework of Robin S' 90s classic "Show Me Love", featuring numerous funk-acid tweaks. The second 12" meanwhile features Chris Awesome's bootleg of The Bees' "Payback", a heady mix of psychedelic rock and old school funk, and Nick Fonkynson's "D-Funk" featuring some heavy Wurlitzer solo action, and on the flip side, Funk Ferret's massive "Get Back To Funk" and John Farrugio's rework of Junior Senior's "Move Your Feet" - if this doesn't get the dancefloor going, nothing will. Make no mistake, this release is big!

Shoot Me Down (Sigma remix)
Shoot Me Down (Pyramid remix)
Review: Joining the release of Stanton Warriors fantastic track "Shoot Me Down" is this accompanying 12" featuring two remixes of the track. Sigma delivers a massive dubstep reworking of the track which goes heavy on the euphoria at the start before launching into an all out bass assault punctuated with gunshot percussion and laser sound effects. On the flip, Pyramid delivers a remix that combines rolling D&B drums with an arpeggio led buildup, leading into a manic jungle inspired bass climax that is reminiscent of classic Prodigy fused with contemporary dubstep. Take our word for it: this release is incendiary stuff!
