Bless The Rains
My Body's On Fire
Not In Love Anymore
Review: If you want hugs on the dancefloor deep into the night, Late Night Tough Guy's (formally DJ HMC) "Bless The Rains" is the perfect drug. The Adelaide based luminary rehashes Toto's "Africa" in a heavily pitched down and simple edit fit for any fromage-laced discotheque. Skirting around the throbbing bassline and triangle hits of "My Body On Fire" is a vocal that will have some train-spotters pulling their hair out in frustration, while "Not In Love Anymore" will have both Warren G/Nate Dogg and Michael McDonald fans bumping and grinding to excess.

Timothy J Fairplay - "Off The Rails"
Per Bojsen Moller - "Staying Late"
Steve Cook - "Noahs Arp"
Emile Strunz - "Magnetic"
Review: Named in homage to the series of collectable football cards from the 1970s, the Rothmans label follows the inaugural Mario Kempes Release with another long-haired icon being given his dues in the form of The Harald Toni Schumacher Release, complete with another four tracks of chugging techno-disco. Emotional Response's Timothy J Fairplay kicks things off with "Off The Rails", an expectedly dark and tense piece of Carpenter-esque synth, while LWE writer Per Bojsen-Moller delivers the atmospheric techno of "Staying Late", whose rippling analogue bassline gives way to an unexpectedly funky breakdown. On the flip, Steve Cook's "Noah's Arp" takes things a Balearic house direction with its thick, filtered analogue textures adding some psychedelic colour to its mid-tempo grooves, while Emile Strunz's "Magnetic" adds some acid flavour to its low-swung, vocoder saturated Italo swagger.

This Fear Of Goda
Theme For Great Cities
I Travel (extended 12" mix)
Review: You'd be forgiven in thinking these are edits, extended craftily by the cosmic cognoscenti. But then this is "The Balearic Sound Of..." series and, like the previous EPs, they've handpicked three beauts that join the dots between then and now without so much as a mere chop. Purloined from the bands earliest chapters, each of them is a true gem. "This Fear Of Gods" is a deep old low swung groove with way more punch than it needed in 1980. The epic sci-fi flavoured "Theme For Great Cities" is the most famous of the trio, having been sampled by Joey Negro under his Raven Maize guise. "I Travel" concludes the set with a near-techno homage to Moroder... Way ahead of its time!

Loop For Love
Kiss My Cologne
Unstoppable
Unstoppablefx
Review: Tiger & Woods Editainment label usher in yet another mystery duo/alias (delete as appropriate) in the shape of the punderfully monikered Boe & Zak, whose Rudy EP pays clear homage to the heavily percussive disco-house sound of early 90s New York. Had enough of that you say? Well the four tracks here might engender a sense of re-evaluation as like previous Editainment releases, Boe & Zak approach the genre with a sense of understanding and accomplishment that's tellingly lacking in those armed with a familiar Kerri Chandler record and a soundcloud account. The heavy string loops of "Loop For Love" alone will have crowds in raptures, whilst the tough drum machine work outs "Kiss My Cologne" and "Unstoppable" are the kind of tracks you can have oodles of fun with over two copies.

Lanzarote
Lanzarote (acappella)
Lanzarote (DiskJokke remix)
Lanzarote (Krokstapella)
Review: Last year Todd Terje dropped the magnificent "Inspector Norse", a track that would quickly become ubiquitous on dancefloors of all descriptions. This hook-up with old pal Lindstrom is equally big; taking the best of both producers' work - Terje's bouncing, dub-influenced drums and cascading melodies, Lindstrom's angular appregiated basslines and grandiose chords - "Lanzarote" incessantly builds towards an exhausted climax. Throw in some fantastically tongue-in-cheek vocals name-checking holiday destinations, and you've got a hedonistic anthem. On the remix, Diskjokke takes it further towards Eurodisco territory whilst retaining the original's endearing bounce.

MotorCitySoul - "Playground" (Mario Basanov Vocal remake)
Bonar Bradberry - "Loose Grip"
Monte - "True"
Greymatter - "Tisno"
Review: Part two of Future Boogie's Future Disco Vol 6 sees a collection of Wolf Music and Needwant Records related artists deliver four separate tracks. Lithuanian producer Mario Basanov supplies his vocal mix to MotorCitySoul's Daft Punk riffing "Playground", while UK act Bonar Bradberry loops up "Loose Grip", interjecting cut disco vocals with sudden guitar flairs. There's also the new name Monte whose track "True" lives up to the Future Disco name via thick claps, synthy chords and a stomping four-four groove. Greymatter's "Tisno" is by far the deepest track on the EP - almost verging on techno in some points - and is one for the Soundstream or Todd Terje Panorama Bar set or indeed the Croatian summer festivals!

Filaw (Soft Rocks remix)
Once In A Lifetime (Soft Rocks remix)
Review: The Soft Rocks collective feature twice on the upstart Black Rox label with two heavily tribal remixes for a so far unknown artist. The Soft Rocks take on "Filaw" is wrapped in horns and jungle sounds - not too far off a 1970s Brian Jackson and Gil Scott Heron collaboration. On the flip is a possible Talking Heads reference in "Once In A Life Time", which gathers mesmeric African drums and percussion, grooving in harmony to ritualistic chant. A Mohican David Byrne perhaps?

Barry White - "Never,Never Gonna Give Ya Up" (M&M Keep On Doin' It mix) (12:04)
Jean Carn - "Was That It Was" (M&M South Philly Groove mix) (12:29)
Teddy Pendergrass - "If You Know Like I Know" (M&M Teddy Knows Best mix) (13:51)
Sander Barber - "I Think I'll Do Some Stepping On My Own" (The M&M Stepping Out The Door mix) (9:21)
Review: John Morales and his M&M collaboration with Sergio Munzibai have helped pioneer the disco edit and dancefloor remix. The duo are known for adding touches of latin percussion to their extensions and Part-A of a two part retrospect sees Morales unveil some previously unreleased M&M material. The legendary melted chocolate vocals of "Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up" by Barry White get a simple and irresistible "Keep On Doin' It" touch up, while M&M save only the best vocals by pop and jazz singer Jean Carne in their "South Philly Groove" mix to "Was That What Is". The sweaty dance heat of Teddy Pendergrass' "If You Know Like I Know" receives some added length and extra loops in the appropriately titled "Teddy Knows Best" mix, while cut and pasted (literally) drum loops give Sander Barber's "I Think I'll Do Some Stepping On My Own" some dancefloor momentum with the "Stepping Out The Door" mix.

Tony G - "Tony's Song"
Escape From New York - "Slow Beat" (dance mix)
Stevie Bender - "The Final Thing" (instrumental)
David Bowie & Pat Methany - "This Is Not America" (extended instrumental version)
Review: Wow! Balearica are really excelling themselves on this one. Both in terms of obscureness and the fact that the most mesmerisingly cosmic track of the bunch was actually a UK top 20 hit in 1985! Tony G's proto-house Scarface tribute is way ahead of its near 30 year old age. Escape From New York's "Slow Beat" is one of the best examples of swooping synth-toms - and consequently massive air drum sessions - ever recorded and Stevie Bender's boogie bass jam must have ruffled a few feathers when released in 77. Bowie and Metheny's finale is of course the chart-buster, taken from the film The Falcon & The Snowman, it's an undiluted audio lullaby... As you'd expect from the powerhouse duo, really.

Teddy Pendergrass - "Only You" (M&M You Got What I Need mix) (12:04)

The Jones Girls - "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else" (M&M I Don't Wannna Do It mix) (14:48)
Marvin Gaye - "I Want You" (M&M Breakdown beat mix) (8:27)
Review: Back when remixing meant cut tape - not Ableton - John Morales and (Sergio) Munzibai aka M&M were the Bronx's go to men. Morales wraps up his two-part edit homage to M&M's unreleased material with slight recalibration's to Teddy Pendergrass, Loleatta Holloway and The Jones Girls, capping off the series with a soft and percussive "Breakdown beat" mix to the soulful and bona-fide hum of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You". T-Pendergrass horns and heat get touched up in a "Yo'u Got What I Need" mix, while the gospel vocals and strings of Loleatta Holloway are extended for a longer disco player. M&M then give The Jones Girls an extended and instrumental work out in their "I Don't Wanna Do It" mix.

Hard Times (Break Free) (Power club mix)
Hard Times (Break Free) (Mark Seven Special NY dub mix)
Review: Heading directly back to the source, "Hard Times" conjures up the spirit of Jellybean and Arthur Baker and brings them kicking into the future with contemporary production muscle. Undiluted analogue-powered riff simplicity and classic Silk Hurley style vocals, it's a history lesson and instant party on one cute little 10". For something a bit more stripped-back, lights-down and shirts-off flip for Parkway boss Mark Seven's dub. Wow. Times are indeed hard. But they'll always be bearable when music like this exists.

Junior's Throwin Craze (Woolfy mix)
Junior's Throwin Craze (Eric Duncan aka Dr Dunks Bar club dub)
Junior's Throwin Craze (Jacques Renault Face remix)
Junior's Throwin Craze (Being Borings aka Kenji Takimi & Tomoki Kanda mix)
Review: Funky and squealing love oozes from Woolfy on this Junior's Throwin Craze 12" for the always great Public Release label which comes backed with remixes from the good Dr Dunks, Jacques Renault and Being Borings (aka Kenji Takimi & Tomoki Kanda). Woolfy's original is a playful number as synth and guitar licks jam alongside vocals sung like James Murphy at a house party drunk on Scotch. Eric Duncan as Dr Dunks spaces out Woolfy's original with loops and delay while Renault rubs his mix down for something a little more suited to the club - allowing Kenji Takimi & Tomoki Kanda the space to opt for a more traditional live disco rub.

Rod Stewart - "Passion"
The Alan Parsons Project - "The Gold Bug"
Malcolm McLaren - "Obatala"
Alphonso Johnson - "Show Us The Way"
Jevetta Steele - "Calling You"
Review: The Musica Sol Y Mar label return with a fourth helping of classic Balearic tracks, with the three year break since their well loved third edition no doubt down to the licensing process. As with previous editions, there's none of the so called modern Balearic music to be seen here, the nine tracks present indicative of the diverse sounds that filtered through the speaker systems of the White Island back in its 1980s heyday and have been latterly adopted by the likes of Joel Martin and Balearic Mike. Thus proceedings commence with the piano heavy grooves of "In Alto Mare" from Italian singer Loredana Berte before taking the proto cosmic chug of Sue Anne Cardwell, before the likes of The Who, Yello, Rod Stewart and The Alan Parsons Project demonstrate how far Balearic DJs dug into B Sides for that elusive Mediterranean beat. The final three track suite from Malcolm McLaren, Jevetta Steele and Alphonso Johnston is presented as a homage to Jose Padilla's enduring influence. All tracks featured here are either long deleted on vinyl or are seeing a vinyl release for the first time and have been re-mastered for maximum quality.
