The Avenger (5:39)
John & Tony (6:02)
Saviour Selector (5:17)
Review: Big moves from two of the biggest! Grooverider reactivates his Codename John project for this stealth release through Metalheadz. Active intermittently since 1994, the Codename John pseudonym has been an outlet for Grooverider to explore a darker style of steppy DnB that is filled with breakdowns and we are happy to see Metalheadz have coaxed some new material out of him. Fierce and unrelenting jump up vibes run through the title track, whilst "John & Tony" is a constantly mutating barrage through unpredictable bass movements and jagged, steppy drums. Grooverider saves the real screwface material for last though with "Saviour Selector" gleefully spilling with distorted bass and vintage junglist vibes.

Something To Believe In (feat Calibre) (5:36)
Diablo (feat Dub Phizix) (5:25)
Raptors (feat DJ Die) (5:01)
Review: Soul:R roll out this 12" accompaniment to Mid Mic Crisis, aimed to satisfy the needs of any DRS fans who prefer his music on vinyl and it's also a handy sampler for anyone that's not yet checked the collaboration heavy set from the Manchester MC. Given the sheer standard of artists that contributed, we don't envy whoever it was at Soul:R that was tasked with plucking four cuts for this 12" but the label have done a fine job. Most selectors out there will be happy to see the dark side crew cut "Bun Ya Too" here, whilst the skittering futurism of Calibre collaboration "Something To Believe In" was made for the vinyl format!

Alone (5:32)
Looking Back (6:46)
Review: Sao Paulo's finest export Bungle has a long history of hitting the decks hard and "Alone" is his latest tribute to the old school. Mixing vintage sounds with fresh drums and bass, title track "Alone" is a perfect set starter to get things moving in the dance. "Looking Back" is the perfect tune if industrial, heavyweight bangers that morph into beautiful, flowing rollers are your bag. "Arcadia" channels old school Dillinja down to the dark slamming bass and percussion that keeps pushing back against swirling synths. Final track "Fast Forward" offers a more minimal sound, stepping up with tribal drums before building into a whirlwind roller, tapping into an addictive old school sound. It's pretty much perfection and you need it.

Jet Black (extended) (6:02)
Whip Slap (6:08)
Review: Having served up the last MTA release of last year with Love to Me, man like Dimension is back on the label to bring their first bit of nastiness for 2015. It's clear "Jet Black" is all about the interplay of light and darkness that the sampled female vocal and gnarled up bassline provide, whilst Dimension's beat programming as on point as ever. Those craving some all out darkside badness should head straight for "Whip Slap" which has 'will cause screwface' written into its sonic DNA.

The Wolf (4:54)
Spiral (4:50)
Mosquito (4:54)
Review: Digital & Spirit meets Metalheadz? Woof indeed! The Wolf is the pair's first 12" drop together since Original Rockers, that monster slab of ruffige on Phantom Audio and the three cuts here are just as deadly!! The title track rolls on a half-step, leaving plenty of space for Digital & Spirit to crank up the dark side pressure with some truly punishing bass weight. Complementing this, "Spiral" slips more of a percussive shuffle into the mix and balances out the darkness with some delightful, Detroit techno-esque synths. The dub heavy "Mosquito" might just be the pick of the bunch, bristling with that dark funk we come to expect from the pair.

Jungle Skanking (5:07)
Jungle Skanking (dub) (4:56)
Review: Liondub isn't messing around with this one! The relentless label have invited the legend that is Johnny Osbourne into the fold for this swinging slice of authentic jungle in cahoots with Marcus Visionary that is fully primed for the dancehalls. Harmonic, sweet-toned and warm as toast, Osbourne's ode to the raving crew is crystalline and, with enough air time at the raves, will be very easy to sing along to. For more Marcus and less Johnny jump on the bubbly dub version. Bona fide jungle business.

Alix Perez - "Forsaken" (feat Peven Everett & Spectrasoul - Calibre remix) (6:52)
Spor - "Aztec" (Calyx & Teebee remix) (4:30)
Review: Taken from Shogun's recent 10 years collection, here we find two of the label's stone cold classics twisted by two of the best remixers possible... Calibre does the honours on Perez's soulful stepper "Forsaken". Adding a seemingly endless roll to the drums and letting Peven Everett's vocal take centre stage, it's - typically - yet another essential Calibre moment. Flip for Calyx & Teebee's update on Spor's still futuristic slammer "Aztec". A gamechanger when it was released in 2009, C&T have paid total respect and added just the right touches to ensure its relevance in the game six years later.

Review: Active since 2010, South West Londoner Xtrah has brought his own brand high tech drum & bass pressure to a whole gamut of labels with a recent Metalheadz Platinum drop augmenting releases for Subtitles, Critical, SGN:LTD and more. With his name established in the community, Xtrah has chosen a new year as the perfect chance to introduce his own label Cyberfunk whose debut release features productions from the man himself plus hookups with some friends. The A-side is all Xtrah with two cuts of precision programmed badness (just check "Operator"!!) whilst the flip sees him collaborating with Break and letting Simple Technique loose with the superb "Cold Steppin".

Dan Harbarnam - "Rendering The Garlic Boy" (Loxy & Resound remix) (6:39)
Review: To augment the double CD compilation Illustrations, Loxy's Cylon Recordings have pressed up a small number of cuts onto two 12" samplers for the DJs out there that still prefer their future beats to come on wax. This second Illustrations 12" houses four cuts that will have you fiending for the full complement like all good LP samplers should do! Loxy and Resound call shotgun and lay down a growling dark side stepper in the shape of "Rain Man" which sits perfectly between abstraction and dancefloor menace. "Wrong Floor" by Clarity steps to a taut, serrated rhythm whilst Nether dovetails into vintage dub territory with "Sunset Dub". Loxy & Resound close out the 12" too on a fine remix of the superbly titled "Rendering The Garlic Boy" by Dan Harbarnam.

Review: Bcee's Spearhead imprint celebrates a decade of velvet 170 soul with a collection of classics and exclusives. Having played a pivotal role in the careers of household D&B names such as S.P.Y, Netsky, Ten does well to remind us of the clout and influence it has on the scene by way of evergreen rollers such as "I Refuse" and "By Your Side". With the heavy presence of label mainstays LSB and Hybrid Minds, the label's gossamer remit and glossy output is represented with attention to detail, culminating in Bcee and Kubiks' first track in over 10 years... "Ten Years On". Fitting. Not to be missed.

Life Goes On (5:08)
107 (5:11)
Review: Last seen revamping his 2006 classic "Dial" for Inneractive Music, man like Spirit comes correct once again on this fine platter for Blu Mar Ten; it's the first time Duncan Busto has appeared on the label and he's certainly dressed to impress. Up top, "Life Goes On" runs deep with Bukem-style synths pulsing outwards over a taut programme of kicks - some real sci-fi vibes going on with this one. On the flip "107" is a much darker roller, with a much tougher edge to the groove and some subtly powerful bass tones. Don't sleep!

Noisia, Mefjus & Hybris - "Reptilians" (3:34)
Banshee (4:56)
Review: Thundering, uncompromising neuro from three of the most forward-thinking minds in the scene delivered across four spacious sides... Each of these four cuts are so heavy, it would be criminal to squeeze them all on one 12"! "Incessant" has a really itchy, nagging techno-minded hook that punches at a really breezy high frequency it's unnerving. "Clusterfunk" is more of a classic scratchy, jittering jam that scuffs and rubs against every logical grain in your brain. "Reptilians" continues to tear holes into 2015 since early arrival on Vision's recent 10 years collection while "Banshee" comes with a choral harmony so haunting rumour has it Groningen's priests have all tried to exorcise Noisia's HQ with so much holy water Holland is nearing drought status. Incessant just about sums it up.

Highlights abound in every direction, notable compositions include Dreazz & Emery's Alice Russell-sampling "Riding High", a subtle VIP twist on Silence Groove's 2014 Bukem-esque soully roller "Playing With Fire" and the jazzy, loopy sample sprinkles of Paul SG's "Faso". Testament to Fokuz's curation and talent identification, this is a bold and ambitious release. Highly recommended.

Review: Damn, it's motherhumping Digital! The Metalheadz member and d&b pioneer makes a rare appearance in this day and age on Dispatch Recordings and he's come through as pensive as ever with his sleek and contemporary take on the jungle variety. "Red Alert" is what you'd call a 'minimal' d&b cut, while "A Message" takes a half-step groove and adds in subtle waves of breaks to the mixture. Finally, the dude teams up with Audio Habitat and Mad Vibes for "Maintain", a meditative excursion into the deepest depths of neo-jungle.

Review: A brand new label from the Yellow Machines camp, Modified Motion commences business with Luke Williams. Previously known as Quinoline Yellow and Tatamax, this is his debut as Tap Throw... And it's an instant throwback to jungle's headiest, formative foundations. From the swooning, detuned synth wriggles and writhes of "Well Of Souls" to the sharply edited drum magic of "Living In Chains", if you didn't know any better you'd think you'd stepped into a time vortex and landed at the head offices of influential imprints such as Moving Shadow or Sub + Bleep. Authentic but not overly-nostalgic; this will resonate with junglists old and new.

Review: Signed to Ram off the basis of a demo and no previous releases, Bensley invitation to the label is a smackback to the old A&R and artist development methods... And it's really exciting to see the hype and expectation that's developed during this process. Especially now he's launching with an entire LP. If you enjoyed the crystal, almost cosmic sounds of Camo & Krooked's last album, or perhaps the softer, subtler work of Feed Me then you'll be all over this. Progressive, adventurous and loaded with melody and intricacies; Bensley is in a league of his own and deserves every bit of hype he's received so far. A landmark D&B album.
