Review: Moving Shadow legend Paradox serves up his 147th release and to celebrate he's gone back to the old school and pulled out some of the most influential, creatively potential breakbeats ever sampled by man. The clue's in the title and the records he's sampled are actually on the sleeve art. Shucks, on "Scorpius" it actually ends with the source break, all beefed up and ready for you to sample. Heavy in heritage, this is a lesson for any budding producer/D&B fan... And a must for all DJs!

Review: Part one from his sophomore album Identity marks the return of the Swedish techmiester Seba and hints at the range of exciting material he's got loaded for us. The title track is all spiky and early electro with just a smidgen of LFO acidity and a spoken word vocal that sounds a bit like Will Self. "Nothing Can Replace" finds itself at the other end of the spectrum; all euphoric, dreamy and synth-washed it's not dissimilar with the work Bungle did with Riya a year or two ago. What a contrast. What a comeback!

Review: Just like Hot Cakes and Disco Cakes, Deekline's Jungle Cakes imprint deals exclusively in fool-proof party fodder. This release is no exception as he invites breakbeat stalwart Jinx to the fold for two insatiable dubwise skankers. "Amen In Session" is a modern day jungle jump up piece with the perfect blend of disarming bass and head-spinning amens while "Seek & Find" takes a Horace Andy classic and gives it a savage turbo boosting. Like we said; fool-proof party fodder. Yummy.

Review: Part two of three, here we find more audio extremities from Seba on another selected duo from his second album Identity. "Can't Describe" is a slippery, soulful affair that sits somewhere between the remits of Soul:R and Critical. "Balance Of Powers", meanwhile, flips the switch with some of the most punishing drums Seba's programmed in years. Think Renegade Hardware, think Seba's mate Klute; with occasional trumpet blasts and a warping bassline, it's Seba at his most heavyweight... And we love it.

Review: Last seen loitering with Dub Phizix, Skeptical returns on Klute's Commercial Suicide with two contrasting examples why he's so well respected in D&B. "Statik" bounces with a delicious triplet swing. Purring with a pirate-like skank it's an instant vibe-caster that conjures a similar spirit to "Disco Dodo" many years ago. "Frozen", meanwhile, is a much darker affair with a warped, pummelling vibe and unashamed sense of techno menace. Brutal.

Review: Tip-toeing the fine balance between ballad and badass, each and every cut Hybrid Minds create resonates with musicality and liquid soul. "Meant To Be" owes its success to the Thomas Newman piano trills while "Unconditional" hisses with piston-like percussion and sparkles with aquatic synth washes and more delicate piano work. With their own in-house singer Jeff Crake working every inch of his mic charm on both cuts, it's Hybrid Minds at their finest. Which is very fine indeed!

Review: Nu:Logic shouldn't need an introduction. The consolidated forces of brothers Logistics and Nu:Tone, it's double dynamite... And there's an album due very soon. To tease us Hospital has unleashed two completely contrasting licks, and they're both instantly alluring and expertly executed. "Morning Light" is a yearning roller with a chubby fretless bass and all manner of shivering pads and chords. "Grizzly" is the perfect foil; nodding at the current half-tempo work of TC and dipping into a few synth-horn trap palettes, it's a gritty, ass-shaking affair that screams endless hours of double drop potential. Essential.

Review: Since first making his debut on Canada's Stride Recordings back in 2009, Toronto native Rene Lavice has been inching towards 'D&B heavyweight' status. While he's not there just yet, this confident debut album for the mighty RAM Records should nudge him a little nearer his goal. Bold, brash and rave-inspired, with both eyes on the dancefloor, Insidious breathlessly flits between steppy jungle, tech-step and deeper flavours without a care in the world. It has its share of darkness, too - see "Thorax" and the brilliant old skool roller "Tap Dat" - but the overall feel is one of thrilling release. As debut albums go, it's pretty good.

Review: One of Horizon's finest assets, Naibu's been peddling his own distinctive deep D&B for years now, flickering off and on the radar with sonic stealth and sophistication. Here we find the Frenchman releasing two of the most alluring pieces from last year's three-piece 10" EP set. "Autumn Comes" is especially engaging thanks to a warm layer of warped harmonies, vaguely urgent bell tones and an impending sense of piano-purged depression. "Wrong", meanwhile, belies its confusing title; A skippy, swaying bass-bugle with dreamy harp licks and trippy whispers of percussion, it's anything BUT wrong! Beautiful.

Review: With previous on Samurai and Alignment, Overlook is picking up some serious heat the moment. If you're into that stark, near-industrial minimalism that Ruffhouse are currently peddling you'll be all over the pneumatic rhythm and techno-like mindset of "Three Shards". Blocks & Escher ensure narrative closure with the much deeper, floaty "Embers". Timeless yet forward thinking, like the previous Narratives releases, this is nigh-on essential.

Review: And so the Survival & Silent Witness sonic assault continues as they keep teasing us with tracks from their forthcoming album. "Tracer" is a collabo with Dispatch label-mate Cern. A firm fave at Renegade Hardware, he's brought a tougher taste to S&SW's robust, rolling pie thanks to a bombardment of tight, layered percussion and booming subs. "Apache" takes more of a funk route as a rusty acid bassline scatter-bounces playfully over the relentless steppy beat work. Tight!

Review: Kool FM's Ruffstuff gets his collabo flex on across two cuts that showcase his wide range and versatile. "Gatts" is a nod to the Urban Takeover days of jump-up. Minimal, funky and rude without ever going too over the top, it bounces with a mischief that will work in any D&B DJ's sets. "New Horizons" is a much darker affair, swinging with a tick-tock riddim and a belly-busting sub lick it would fit perfectly into an old Dillinja set.

Review: V Recordings continue to deliver the magic and this next release from Serum is no exception. "Horn Track" begins with shimmying, chiming tones and juddering drums and falls into an out and out belter with a dense soundscape full of pounding drumwork, booming bass and hissing hi-hats in abundance with the iconic, jingling melody coming in and out of focus. "Strings Tune" comes with this and continues to weave a similar pattern with pummelling beats, roaring bassweight and plenty of weighty, speaker-wobbling prowess.

Review: Instantly raising the tension, this Need For Mirrors instant classic collects all that the D&B world loves about the duo and melds it into a sleek, techy, neuro-hybrid stepper. Bass that rattles bones and percussion fit for dance floor-smashing the world over, they've outdone themselves. NFM's remix of Seven's "Come To Play" offers extremely enjoyable bouncing bass amid vocals from Alys Be and an enclosing feeling of tension. Washing in and out with soulful samples amongst the gloom, it's unsettling but addictive, and undeniably in possession of the Need For Mirrors stamp.

Review: Part duex of IM:LTD's "Junction 12" EP, here we find label stalwart Mortem and fresh face Quartz going head-to-head in a battle of bass. "Converter" is a sexy swinger with jazzy chords, a sprightly drum arrangement a heartbeat bassline that breathes organically. Meanwhile "Amour King" is a growling, Moving Fusion-style roller that sneers and snarls with a simple-but-deadly, teeth-bearing riff.

Review: The third and final vinyl sampler of the duo's stunning debut album shows Survival & Silent Witness at their most rolling and techy. "What I Need" oozes a real industrial class with a metallic ping-pong riff that continually evolves and mutates as more percussive elements are added with subtlety. "Fletcher" is a much darker, swampier affair with all manner of wild snippets, edits and strange fills. Heads down, lights down... These are supreme zone-like grooves.

Review: The final part of Seba's album vinyl triptych, it's yet another display of the Scandinavian veteran's versatility. "Madness" takes a series of Plastikman-style spiralling acid lines and twists them into a web of audio insanity. Just like the previous samplers, "What's Your Fantasy" couldn't be further from the late night angst of the A-side; jazzy, sexy and positively Balearic in its charms, you'd barely notice its subtle 170 tempo.

Review: It's co-lab central as Cali badman Gridlok goes head-to-head with Optiv and Mindscape respectively. Originally released as digital only, now available on glorious wax, both hook-up projects sound even heavier than they did encoded. "Time Goes By" is a bullet proof blunderbuss that spits with a Virus style shuffle-tech stomp while "Chrome" is a much steppier affair with crisp snares and an alien bassline that morphs and mutates with same mischief you'll find on an early Krust or Photek record.
