Review: We've been waiting on this one since "J&W Beat" six years ago; there's something about Floating Points sound that instantly lends itself to full-length album immersion. It's clear he feels this way too; using the album to delve deeper into electronic deconstructions and delicate ensemble arrangements. At its most adventurous and contemporary classical "Argente" is up there with Frahm, at is dreamiest and jazz-influenced "For Marmish" is a deeply cosmic affair with disparate chords making more sense than they perhaps should. At its most traditional Floating Points we hit the finale "Perotation Six" where the brushed drums are buried under layers of sound and elements in a way that's not dissimilar to Radiohead. Well worth the wait.

Review: Yes Eglo! Alex Nut and crew turn to two elder statesmen of London beat science in Dego and Kaidi Tatham for a killer induction into the art of crafting 'broken beat bullets'. For those who don't possess the necessary knowledge, Dego is the most familiar handle of Dennis McFarlane, founding member of 4Hero and responsible for so much good music over the years, and Tatham has an equally important role in the whole Broken Beat movement, being an integral member of the Bugz In the Attic collective. The pair have worked together previously on numerous occasions and they are on top form here with lead track "Ankle Injury" demonstrating a perfect balance of melody and crafty rhythm. Imagine Theo and Floating Points collaborating and your heads in the right spot to enjoy this track and "Acting Up On That Shit Don't Count" which is the sort of music you could imagine RAMP to be making if they were on the rise today. Do check the sumptuous piano and Rhodes vibes on final cut "Carrots & Sesame"!!

Step Overs (Danvers remix) (5:53)
Review: Brighton jazz/soul two piece Soccer96 get a makeover for their Jupiter Masterdrive release from 2014. NYC's legendary Danny Krivit gives "Flight Formation" a re-edit that only a true master of the artform truly can. He definitely emphasises the best parts of the track, not to mention all the uplifting soulfulness of it.. like he does! Berlin's purveyor of dusty hip-hop influenced deep house Glenn Astro also steps up to resplice the source material of said track too, giving it his Midas touch. Finally Danvers does a remix of "Step Overs" and does a fine job, remaking the track into a deep funky house jam that honours the late nineties sound, vaguely reminiscent of the French Touch style.

Review: Ready for a strange soul sensation? Say hello to Henry Wu. After a smattering of outings on 22a and XVI, the Londoner jumps aboard Ho Tep with his first extensive extended document. "Don't Want The Regular" is a hazy twist on slo-mo broken beat, all dreamy and just the right amount of abstract. "Expensive Ghetto" takes the abstract even further with a jazz trumpet that wanders so free it's nearly off the page. "Black Rigsby" is more floor-focused as it looks towards the likes of Detroit with strange filtered synth wriggles and spacy overtones, "Just Negotiate" sits somewhere between Andrew Ashong and Amp Fiddler with its yearning lyrics and hugely enveloping synths and finally "Joint September" closes the show on a reflective jazzy note. Dreamy.

Review: Conscious pilot Dego looks deep into his past, present and future on his second artist album The More Things Stay The Same. Recruiting fellow musicians for the ride - Kaidi Tatham, Mr Mensah, Matt Lord - Dego's concept is understand the duality of truth and how it's just as painful as it is enriching. The end result of this philosophy is a collection of timeless compositions that flip between jazz-tickled highlight ("Greed & Power"), early zeroes Bugz-style buzz grooves ("It Don't Get No Better") and velvet, drum-heavy soul ("Shine A Light"). A true hero of proper UK music, Dego delivers once again... Pay attention!

Review: The in house label at West London vinyl emporium Honest Jon's has really hit on a rich strain of releases for the electronic music connoisseur this year with that Sotofett album, the Villalobos and Kassem Mosse remixes of Insalar and Simone White respectively and now this gem. Datura Mystic is a wonderful soundclash between the unheralded Drums Of Wareika Hills Sounds and Tapes, a London based artist whose unique brand of cassette manipulations have featured on Jahtari, Sex tags Amfibia and Astro Dynamics among others. Quite separate to anything anyone else is bigging up right now, both the title cut and the accompanying Dub roll to their own beat and its great music to soak up in the spring sun!

Review: After a busy year that saw releases on Funkineven's Apron and Classic, Seven Davis Jr returns to London's Ninja Tune with a new LP, his second to date and a follow-up to this year's Wild Hearts EP for the same label. Universes is a stunning body of music comprised of fifteen tracks, all of which showcase Seven's many different styles and abilities behind the mixing desk...after all, it is called Universes! Our favourite moments have to be "Everybody Too Cool" because it reminds us of Outkast at their most daring, the off-kilter beats of "Karma", "Options" and its pseudo techno stance, and the abstract soul wails of "Fighters". Check it, there's plenty of goodness inside.

Review: Last spotted together on the cut some three years ago with their eponymous debut LP, the crew like Kaidi Tatham, Akwasi Mensah, Matt Lord, and Dego 'Ranks' McFarlane reunite for this fresh 2000Black 12". Off the Christmas Card List is apparently a precursor to a second album from the quartet and it's the last 12" in a fine year for 2000Black that saw the killer Dego LP as the centrepiece. The A-side is dedicated to the title cut, an endlessly slinky boogie number that really showcases the collective musicality of this crew, whilst the B-side is split between "Hurry Whilst They Are Away" and "Fila High". The former is bugged out beat down West London-style, and the latter a killer Latin-flecked cut.

Walking Thru The Sky (live version) (10:27)
Review: Having proved their stripes live with an extensive tour last year, Theo Parrish's live supergroup get busy on the release front. With Theo and Amp Fiddler both on keys and vocals and Myele Manzanza on drums, the grooves on both sides are that perfect balance of dancefloor tightness and a loose funk from players who are confident in each other's abilities. Skye cover "Ain't No Need" is a swinging broken beat adventure with rolling frenetic drums where the keys wrap around the vocals like a thick tog duvet. "Walkin Thru The Sky", meanwhile, takes us back to 1996 and Theo's Baby Steps EP. With a strutting rhythm and insistent hook, it's a perfect example of how house music can be executed live with perfection.

From the Secret Life-era Stevie Wonderisms of "Breathing Underwater" to the deep sea harmonies of "Fingerprints" by way of the dense, frenetic vocal complexities of the wonderfully titled "Shaolin Monk Motherfunk", the entire album swoons and sways with tidal jazz majesty and excitement. Review: PIAS call on the respected close talker Gilles Peterson to curate No Deal Remixed, a self-explanatory addendum to last year's well received album from Belgian jazz artist Melanie De Biasio. Given the Brownswood boss's profile, it's little surprise to find an illustrious cast of musicians and producers involved here. Peterson's cachet is clear from the off with Mark Everett of Eels coaxed into contributing his first ever remix, which stays quite reverential to De Biasio's original, but reinterpretations from Seven Davis Jnr, Clap! Clap! And Johnwayne take the Belgian in pleasingly different directions. Gilles gets in on the act too with a lovely broken Latin refix alongside man like Simbad!

Review: It's commonly known if you cut Will 'Quantic' Holland, he'd bleed in little Tru Thoughts logo-shaped droplets, such is the bond between the artist and label. The latest Quantic long-player for the South Coast label, A New Constellation, finds the Bogota-based musician leading a hand-picked selection of musicians called The Western Transient. Their focus? To realise a set of new compositions paying homage to the rich, lively and intimate quality of the classic soul and jazz recordings. That Holland should choose to follow his last LP, the explosive Magnetica, with 10 tracks of more traditional jazz and funk proves he's still not happy to stand still as Quantic despite having a hand in well over ten long players.

Review: Ahead of the release of his second album, Far Out commission two remixers that complement Khan's Latin jazz sensibility and delivery and bring them deeper into the dance. 22a Records' Henry Wu gets busy on the rim shots and p-funk synths to create a sound that sits somewhere between Bugz and Liston Smith. Flip for a slower, smokier version from Ben Hauke who rekindles the ghosts of 4Hero at their jazziest or Theo Parrish with soft kicks and rich, unpredictable keys. Unique.

Review: Nick Wisdom and AstroLogical's boom-bap boogie project has already been championed hard by the likes of Kaytranada, Nightmares On Wax and Soulection. Reaching album maturity, the Canadian duo paint their broadest picture on Big Luxury, an album that ranges from silky mid-90s west coast hip-hop ("Explosives") to lavish, jazz-maxed Amp Fiddler style future-soul ("Palmreader") via wonked-out broken beat bass ("Luv Ya"). Living up to its name in every way, Potatohead People are effectively celebrating everything that's great about dancefloor music in the last 30 years right here. As a result it will sound great for another 30 years to come.

Tight, playful and dynamic, the whole album leaps and struts from soft almost silent moments to crazed jazz frenzies where the players bounce off each other in a way only a brass band can. Complete with the awesome covers that most people will have found the band from ("No Diggity", "Africa", "Under The Bridge"), this has been crying for a vinyl outing since day one... And their second album Common Decency is en wax route very soon too.

Leela James, Erykah Badu, Taj Mahal, George Jackson and Donnie Hathaway all go under the knife and reappear with almost unidentifiable features as Shoes take one element and subvert it in a creative way only they know how. Review: Gerardo's first new material since last year's album Movement, the "Olympia" EP sees the Milano musician return to his club roots with five of his most floor-focused cuts. From the Shiffrin-style guitars and Jorge Ben licks of the dramatic cinematic title track we head deep into the dance by way of the cadent Latin soul of "Tin Tin Deo", the Hammond-squeezing "Talking Sticks" and the percussion-primed heads-down Arabic charms of "East Breeze". We climax with "The Obsession", a thumping drum-focussed samba number that tips a big nod to the likes of Master At Work.

Review: Pick up a dictionary, look up 'curveball' and you'll find "Rich Prick Poor Dick". You won't... But you should. After his experimental soundscapery on his In The Wild album, FaltyDL has decided to go all-out on our tooshes with two rather disparate club cuts. The unforgettably titled lead track is a rampant, near-150BPM, techno slapper with heavy elements of psy trance thrown into the mix for good measure and strong flavour. "Bookaloo" plays the cheeky, trippy antidote. A much slower (but still beat-heavy) beat jam, it's bedazzled in an array of both melodic and rhythmic leads and counter leads. Now look up the word 'essential'.

Review: Pink Lizard come through with the RSD goods in the shape of this vinyl edition of Pablo's "Feel Like", a track that's gained increased clamour since hushman deejay Gilles Peterson dropped a demo version on radio back in 2013. This edition sees the track reworked by Pink Lizard boss Benbo, and is quite the uplifting cut, not least in the manner that Pablo's unmistakable vocal ascends through the detuned chords and immersive bass. The track is given a further dust down by OPOLOPO and it's an entirely different proposition, bit of a Bugz vibe to the crisp, broken rhythms and deep bass swerves. A fine record this one.

It is A-side track "The Mover" that is laced with Bataan's silky vocals, with Puddu's horn laden, laid backarrangement the perfect backdrop. Some great little snare licks on this cut too! Things get a bit more heated on the flip with "Soultiger" a uptempo funk nugget that really showcases Puddu's musicality. The album should be a blinder on this evidence.

Conjured in the foggy haze of time when the LA beat scene was in its infancy, there's a more languid, spacious feel to the arrangements over which you can hear Shlohmo building the blocks of the future. From the light ebb and flow of the sandy slide guitars on "Places" to the raindrop textures and pensive reflectivity of "Just Us" via the fuzzy layers and sludgy narrative of "I Can't See You, I'm Dead", this captures an exciting time in Shlohmo's career that remains as immersive and engaging as it was four years ago.
