1055ML (6:47)
Sandwiches (6:31)
Sowhaa (8:00)
Review: Having notched up releases on the likes of Raum...musik and Apollonia, Makcim & Levi make the move to Lazare Hoche to deliver another shedload of hard-grooving house bombs for the deepest part of the night. The 1055ml EP is a mixed bag that leads with the title track, which encapsulates everything that's great about the stripped down house sound that Lazare Hoche is committed to. "Sandwiches" meanwhile is a quirky, bugging jam that wriggles under the skin in the most subtle of ways before "Sowhaa" brings a much more hypnotic, pad-laden blend to the table for a soft landing from this feisty 12" of forward-thinking 4/4.

Swing Riddim (7:32)
Lexa Groove (7:46)
Review: Tech-house's own cockney rebel, East End Dubs, has been busy of late. The master of DJ tools and rhythm-focused box jams kept up a steady stream of releases in 2016, delivering a trio of coloured vinyl treats. His first missive of 2017 comes on psychedelically inclined "splatter" pattern vinyl, but doesn't stray far from his usual musical blueprint. On the A-side you'll find "Swing Riddim", where liquid chords and spacey electronics cluster around an immaculately programmed, bass-heavy tech-house groove. B-side "Lexa Groove" is a slightly deeper and more becalmed affair, even if it does boast a more sizeable bassline and chunkier drums.

Substance (6:39)

Access (6:33)
Quadrant (5:08)
Review: David G makes his debut appearance as Sota with this first release on his own Talaman label. The Dutch producer delivers a mature approach to dubby minimal house on this opening salvo, with "Substance" holding down a rock solid groove underneath strafing chords before "Closer" heads into even more blissed-out territory. The flip side brings some slightly tougher material in the shape of "Access" with its rugged bottom end and the technoid pace of "Quadrant" that would sound right at home on Mosaic. If it's straight-up deep tech house you're after, Sota has everything you need.

Review: Since launching back in 2009, Nervmusic has established itself as one of the leading outlets for atmospheric minimal funk, shuffling techno, and stripped-back deep house. The high esteem in which the Russian label is held is confirmed by the list of artists contributing to Quattroporte, a quadruple-vinyl collection of previously unheard material. Rhadoo, Melchior Productions LTD, Ion Ludwig and Metaboman all feature, delivering club-ready cuts that wring maximum emotion from the dustiest and most hypnotic of tracks. Highlights are plentiful, and include the off-kilter, Prince-inspired minimal funk of Half Hawaii's bass-heavy opener, "Skinny Papa", the percussive clicks and drifting chords of Cabanne's "Brom", and the free-jazz-goes-tech-house bump of "Abhorrent" by G76.

Neu Rochelle (7:02)
All Question All Answers (6:20)
ULT (8:01)
Stil Breezin (6:10)
Review: Lazy Harts Club man Evan Baggs is not one for keeping up a regular release schedule; in fact, his last single of note appeared way back in 2015. This first appearance on Time Passages has arguably been worth the wait, though. The Neu Rochelle EP offers a quartet of contrasting cuts. For example, compare the rough-and-ready, bass-heavy Drexciyan space electro of "UTL", the rolling, acid-flecked old school tech-house of "Neu Rochelle", and the melodious machine jam that is closer "Still Breezin". Best of all, though, is "All Question All Answers", which comes on like an unlikely collaboration between 'Pure Trance' era KLF, bleep types Sweet Exorcist, and late '90s tech-house jams.

MOD (10:02)
MOD (Rhadoo remix) (12:30)
Review: Faster, real name Laurentiu Suciu, is one of the fastest rising talents on Romania's sizeable minimal techno scene. This is his second single of 2016, and third in total on the Reure label he set up last year. It's a quietly spacey affair, with intergalactic chord progressions and starry lead lines stretching out over a metronomic, no-nonsense techno groove. There's a little more Motor City influence than you'd find on some of his work, but that's no bad thing. Rhadoo provides the obligatory flipside rework, utilizing a few more minimal techno tropes while ensuring that the drums remain bold, crunchy and snappy, and that the spacey electronics take pride of place in the mix.

Track 1 (8:39)
Track 2 (8:11)
Review: Back in November 2016, previously unheard producer Session debuted with a two-track salvo of untitled tech-house bumpers. The mysterious act has plumped top retain a similar blueprint for this speedy follow-up. A-side "Track 1" focuses the action around a swinging, robotic tech-house groove, with rubbery electronics, dreamy pads and occasional spoken vocal samples helping things roll along. Flipside cut "Track 2" is a little darker and wonkier in ethos, but maintains the producer's obsession with rough-but-groovy rhythms, quirky electronics and thrusting, mind-bothering bass vibrations. Both tracks feel heavily influenced by classic tech-house material from the likes of Rob Mello and Swag, albeit brought kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad (Enrico Sangiuliano remix) (7:17)
Go (Manic Brothers remix) (9:09)
Review: Moby's back catalogue has been reworked rather a lot lately, with Drumcode following the lead of 2DIY4 in releasing a string of contemporary remixes of the Vegan beat-smith's classic productions. This 12" - the second of four the Swedish imprint is releasing - begins with a storming version of "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad" by Enrico Sanguilano. It makes good use of the original's famous vocal sample, working it into a banging techno track that looks to the riff-heavy world of trance for inspiration. On the flip, the Manic Brothers offer their interpretation of "Go", combining the original's evocative chords and vocal samples with heavy new techno beats.

Review: Ricardo Villalobos's first missive of 2017 is a typically epic one. It sees him join forces with Pressure Trax founder Einzelkind for a double-pack's worth of trippy variations on a theme. All four tracks offer an excellent fusion of both producer's styles, with the Chilean's darting bass and intricate percussion programming providing a perfect foil for the German's odd samples, brain-melting electronics and forthright hypnotism. Each successive track is subtly different from the last, with the pair switching lead lines, sampled textures, and beat patterns. Throughout, you'll want to both dance and immerse yourself in their spaced-out sound. In other words, it's an excellent EP.

Review: 356 releases and 20-odd years deep, Kompakt is still delivering the goods. This 12" marks the return of label-hopping producer Clarian North, whose last appearance on the Cologne label came back in 2015. As usual, the tracks on offer are tactile, fluid and melodious, sitting somewhere between deep house, tech-house and more Balearic fare. We're particularly enjoying the bubbly electronic melodies, spacey chords and hustling drums of "Old Miami", and the hushed spoken word vocals, sweeping synth strings and blissful lead lines of "Ankh". That said, the darker wonkier and more bass-heavy B-side workout, "Alienated", is also rather impressive.

Lucius (Phil Evans remix) (5:57)
Review: Montpellier's Yamen & Eda have been active participants in the French minimal house and tech-house scene since the dawn of the decade, though their releases haven been relatively limited. This solid 12" marks their first appearance on Clayton Guifford's Laate label. Clearly designed to satisfy late night dancefloors, it rarely deviates from their tried-and-tested formula (think intricately programmed electronic percussion, moody basslines, and just a hint of the hazy warmth of U.S deep house). Our picks of the bunch are the subtly acid-flecked "Luscious" (which is also given a hypnotic makeover by Phil Evans) and the more forthright dancefloor bounce of "Peabody", though all four tracks are of a reasonably high standard.

Don't Forget To Chew (5:33)
Review: The mysterious Illegal series return with more anonymous artists on the seventh edition of their always surprising imprint, with Sergej Nicolaj and E.s.c. Soundwork being the only identifiable artists thus far. On the A side, we've got the dusty analogue swing of "Cupcakes For Dinner" which is reminiscent of Saverio Celestri or Nicola Kazimir's work of late, while on the flip the retro flavour continues on "Lunch With Lynch" with its synth funk bassline and FM timbres channeling some classic Detroit vibes. Closing out the release is the deeply emotive minimal electro of "Don't Forget To Chew" which explores a very in vogue sound of the moment and done as impressively as TC80 or Binh have done in recent times.

Break New Sol (SIT remix) (8:29)
Review: With a string of albums and singles already under their belt, it would be fair to say that Wareika is one of techno's most productive outfits. The German trio has made countless appearances on Visionquest, Perlon and Tartelet, and here crop up on Amphia. "Break New Sol" is a pleasingly fluid and evocative affair, driven forward by crunchy percussion, darting tech-house bass, and occasional quirky musical flourishes. The subtle dreaminess continues on the slightly looser, but no less percussive, "On A Train Again", which also makes good use of feverishly tropical field recordings. Flip to the B-side for Amphia regular SIT's teutonic tech-house revision of "Break New Sol", which is an altogether weightier proposition than the original.

Gottasay (12:56)
Review: Nothing but good vibrations: Romanian vibe maestro Cosmjn returns to vinyl-only imprint Subtil with three more warm, focused, timeless tech grooves. Title track "Vibr8" takes us back 20 years where the lines between genres were barely visible as an elastic analogue bassline pings around linear drums with unhurried momentum. "Bottle" flips for a deeper housier groove with a gradually developing shuffle that wouldn't have gone amiss on MFF 10 years ago. Finally "Gottasay" takes us deeper again with a lush 12 minute chamber piece that's soft in build but mighty in pay-off thanks to a focused groove and deft use of white noise as a melodic texture. Gr8 m8, let's vibr8.

Kickslide (7:46)
Chopine (6:16)
Roofy Speciale (5:59)
Review: Pager Records head honcho, and Frankfurt-based DJ-producer Phil Evans sounds as if he should be making 70s soul music while, in fact, he's very much active in the German house and tech scene. This new EP drops on the Twig label, marking the imprint's third outing to date. Evans kicks things off with the aptly named "Kickslide", a wonderfully pumping, steely house flex marked by a harmonious backdrop of starry synth chirps and spaced-out pads - and by word does it flow well! "Chopine" starts the flipside with with a slower, more torn-up groove that flows majestically from the very first synth wave to the last mechanical beat, and "Roofy Speciale" heads way down low into the abyss of deep house, eventually surfacing a nicely rolling, club-centric groove for the heads. Nice, chunky analog groovers for your xmas cheer!

Horror Show (live Weather 15 edit) (5:58)
Acid 101 (6:12)
Review: It would be fair to say that the French minimal house scene is rather vibrant right now. That must be heartening for Parisian producer Seuil, because he's been delivering material in this style - with a few more techno leaning productions thrown in, for just over a decade. He begins with a "live Weather 15 edit" of "D-Force", where spacey chords and intergalactic electronics wrap themselves around a snappy, electro-influenced house groove. The clattering drum machine percussion once again comes to the fore on the warehouse-friendly strut of "Horror Show (live Weather 15 edit)", before he goes down a more psychedelic route on the ghetto-house/tech-house/acid house hybrid "Acid 101".

Changes (Jimpster remix) (6:41)
Review: Two years after first hooking up in the studio, Adam Port once again joins forces with veteran British duo Stereo MCs. In its original form, "Changes" sees mic man Rob B wearily half singing, half rapping over Port's melodious, tech-tinged deep house backing track. Although the music is quietly positive and attractive, the track feels strangely subdued. It's accompanied by a couple of fine, more obviously club-focused remixes. Port's own hypnotic, bubbly tech-house re-make expertly mines the Innervisions back catalogue for inspiration, while Freerange boss man Jimpster laces Rob B's entire vocal (spoken word section included) over snappy beats, rich bass, and immaculate deep house chords.

Wandance (dub) (7:24)
Review: Portuguese producer Trikk has enjoyed a hugely successful year in 2016, delivering well regarded EPs on Lossless and Optimo Trax. Predictably, this first outing for Dixon and Ame's long-established Innervisions imprint is also rather good. While the hushed, late night shuffle of "Veneno" sticks rigidly to the label's established tech-house template, the EP's other three tracks are decidedly different. Opener "Florista", for example, makes merry with military style drum fills, whistling melody lines and cascading marimba hits, while "Mozam" sits somewhere between tribal-influenced deep house, trippy techno, and the new age wooziness of Young Marco. Arguably best of all, though, is stretched-out closer "Wandance (Dub)", which is little less than spellbinding.

Review: London-based, Italian-born duo Konstress may have first appeared with the Blind Box Series in 2015, but now they're really hitting their stride with their own self-titled label. This second installment sees the pair charging out into exciting territory on the experimental fringe of the minimal techno scene. The influence of the Boogizm label weighs heavy across all these tracks as intensely detailed sound design meets with chunky basslines and snappy, electro-informed grooves. This is not party music for the conformists out there, but any mutant dancers will find it hard to resist getting their freak on to these adventurous sounds.

Hey Raspberry (10:49)
Mod E Prier (7:58)
Angel Contact (8:06)
Review: Prada Alin Razvan's material under the name Lumieux has been a wonderful addition to the ever-growing world of minimal techno, and it's yet further testament to the quality of producers that are coming from the eastern end of the European zone. The young artist has even released on Dissonant in the past, so we know to expect a certain degree of quality from his releases, and also to keep our eyes fixed on the Why So Series label from now on. "Hey Raspberry" is a deep, intricate groove with plenty of layers, giving it a gorgeous 3D touch that is exactly the sort of thing we look out for in a minimal tune; on the flip, "Mod E Prier" is more broken and further imbued in a sticky, aqueous sort of groove, whereas "Angel Contact" strips it all down to a heavy kick-snare approach. Heavy gear!

The fact that this is out through Objektivity further proves this point and, over the years, there has been nothing better in the house domain. "Maniac 3000" is a heavy tune, banging away at a fast tempo with an electrifying bassline, an itchy percussive knot, and some killer outsider sonics circling in its higher end - a true dancefloor bomb!
