Ideal-Passage (7:01)
Thewizzwasfordillysmissus (6:52)
Sicko (5:22)
Review: Ewan Smith's first 12" of 2018 sees him return to the welcoming embrace of Aus Music, a label he last graced almost three years ago. This time round, there are three tracks to choose from. A-side "Ideal-Passage", a bouncy, techno tempo workout blessed with a restless, undulating bassline, dreamy chords and the kind of clipped guitar samples that were once the preserve of French Touch producers, undoubtedly steals the show, offering the perfect balance between funk-fuelled dancefloor antics and head-in-the-clouds beauty. This vibe continues on the arguably deeper and even more melodious "Thewizzwasfordillysmissus", while closer "Sicko" wraps a chunky, UK garage-influenced rhythm track in tech house style electronics glitches and yearning synth stabs.

Hypothetical Island Of Stability
Fudeoroshi
Bulbocavernosa
Mer Neith It Es
Review: Not content with already steering the Vigenere and Oscillat labels and appearing regularly on Will & Ink and Lazare Hoche, Malin Genie has launched his own self-titled label as a vessel for his most intriguing twists on the house and techno template. The record strides in with the tracky tones of "Hypothetical Island Of Stability," a feast of micro pops and squiggles strapped to a rock solid beat. "Fudeoroshi" is more overtly minimalist in nature, using the barest of ingredients to make a potent dancefloor cut. "Bulbocavernosa" opens up the filters and lets a little nasty acid fun and games into the mix, and then "Mer Neith It Es" rounds the record off with a soaring slice of melodic, deep techno that stands confidently apart from the rest of the tracks.

Laidlaw - "Be Yourself" (8:47)
Ben Ulrich - "Bedun" (5:55)
Kesh - "Enebodiom" (7:49)
Kesh - "We Love You Michael" (6:33)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Hailing from Ibiza, Beeyou makes its first outing as a label with a strong selection of up and coming talent. Laidlaw is first on the scene with a crafty little minimal number that certainly sounds tailored to the up all night crew with its heady atmosphere, playful swing and micro samples. Ben Ulrich's "Bedun" is equally seductive, playing a trade in stripped down electro that shuns obvious dancefloor moves in favour of pure hypnotism. Kesh holds down the B side with two more maximal offerings that still align with the inventive, sleek aesthetics of the A side tracks. "Enebodiom" is a feel good jam without ever resorting to cheesy melodies or vocal touches - it's a jazzed out variation on positivity in house music. "We Love You Michael" completes the record with a quintessential skittering, swinging house cut that keeps the freakiness in abundance and the drums as funky as possible.

Blade Runner (Maceo Plex Renaissance remix) (8:54)
Blade Runner (6:01)
Review: It was way back in 1992 that Remake - an Italian quartet that serial pseudonym collector Alex Neri amongst its number - first released their take on Vangelis' legendary theme from Blade Runner. You can find their original version - a pulsating, floor-friendly take which heavily influenced the development of both trance and progressive house - tucked away on the B-side of this timely Renaissance reissue. The main attraction, though, is undoubtedly Maceo Plex's A-side remix. Fittingly, this not only comes smothered in creepy noises - very Blade Runner 2049 - and a fresh tech-house rhythm track, but also boasts sharp Fairlight-CMI stabs and far greater use of the oh-so-familiar piano melody.

A Round About Route (8:13)
Long Journey Away (8:03)
Shaker (6:30)
Review: Here's one that got us excited: the collaboration of Japanese techno legends Fumiya Tanaka (boss of Sundance and Untitled) and veteran Kuniyuki Takahashi aka Koss: who recently appeared on our radar with his retrospective release on Music From Memory. You're in good hands with these two on the A Round About Route EP: the dynamic duo treat us to some trippy and hypnotic after hours business with these three minimalist trips. They sure know what works on the dancefloor, with over 30 years experience on the scene between them. From the hypnotic shuffle of the title track, the reductionist weirdness of "Long Journey Away" and the groovy "Shaker" experimenting with odd polyrhythms and disorienting field recordings - this one's a solid release.

The Wheel (6:07)
This Is The Universe (7:04)
Celestial (6:42)
Review: Like many of Saverio Celestri's releases, this return to regular home Slow Life is a collaborative affair, with production duties shared by debutant Late Consequence (in reality an experienced Italian producer operating under a new alias). The duo kicks things off with the spacey bounce of "Consequence", where computer beeps and bleeps rise above heavy analogue bass, locked-in techno drums and flotation tank chords, before offering a subtle nod towards early UK bleep techno on sub-bass heavy workout "The Wheel". Turn to the flip for some deeper, purist tech-house vibes (the deep house influenced warmth of "This Is The Universe") and the sparkling, head-in-the-clouds tech-funk of "Celestial".

Answer (6:43)
Organic (6:46)
What (7:25)
You Got Me (7:05)
Review: Emergent Russian producer Legit Trip is the next up on Jack's House, serving up four slices of sleek, crisply produced tech house to work across a variety of scenarios. "Answer" keeps things simple and effective, letting the bassline take the weight of the track and keeping the beat locked on course for maximum dancefloor efficiency. "Organic" has a lighter, more rolling feel to it that nods to the outdoor, day time terrace crew, while "What" has a deeper bump that yearns for dimly lit basement vibes. "You Got Me" has an easy going house flavour to it that should slot nicely into the warm-up, but don't be fooled - there's plenty of weight in that low end to do the damage at any time of night.

Politics Of Dancing X D'Julz
Politics Of Dancing X Oleg Poliakov
Review: After the success of the first experiment, Politics Of Dancing jumps on the collaboration mission for a second time and invites fellow Parisian dons D'Julz and Oleg Poliakov to get deep in the studio. Bass Culture boss D'Julz takes on the A side, and the results are a sleek, measured trip through minimal house with a dubby garnish. Oleg Poliakov's contribution takes on a woozier atmosphere thanks to a wobbly synth lolling through the track, but of course this is still crisp, functional dance music for the long haul dancefloor. Now we just have to wait to see who POD snap up next.

Mele & Shovell - "Pasilda" (6:41)
Mele - "Tribal Harmonix" (5:38)
Mele - "Brooklyn Bounce" (6:44)
Joe Corti - "Dancing Mist" (6:35)
Review: Merseyside's tribal house hero Mele will deliver the next instalment in Defected's In The House series, with this four-track preview showcasing his trademark percussive sound. All three of these original productions are included in this mix. With live percussion from Shovell, the cover of latin house anthem "Pasilda" by Afro Warrior is truly respectful - a wonderful rework for dancefloors in 2018. Speaking of the turn of the millennium, "Brooklyn Bounce" is Mele's tribute to the seminal sounds of Danny Tenaglia - back in the day when he was caning those legendary tribal house sounds at Twilo. There's an exclusive from Joe Corti too, on the deep groove of "Dancing Mist" demonstrating what's to come from the compilation.

Review: Following up a terrific release by Phillip Boss, Baba Osman's label is back with release number three already! It shall come as no surprise then that's he's handpicked another up and coming producer from the Frankfurt Am Main area - introducing Harry Wills. Like previous outings on the label, expect some classic Detroit and electro flavors perceived through a modern lens. From the four-to-the-floor electro funk of "Whashuring" (which will mix in well with your Libertine and Traffic records), to to the druggy and bass heavy dystopia of "Nice Modular" which also gets a jungle laced remix by DJ Yue Ganja on their Rave dub remix.

Cumva (10:29)
Review: Coming off the back of two albums for Japan's Mule Musiq, Petre Inspirescu drops a new single for the imprint, taking his iconic brand of dancefloor minimalism to a wider, perhaps less tech-savvy audience. That's not to say that Mule isn't a home to some of the most exciting electronic beats around, but Inspirescu's style takes the catalogue onto a much darker path. "Murgulll" is headstrong and groove-heavy, coming through with an interlocked cocktail of sounds that mould to create an endless atmosphere of euphoric doom; "Cumva" is the dubbier of the two, launching a deep-minded bass missile that morphs into something more improvisational and more akin to the previous material that has graced this sublime label.

Lip Service (SIT remix) (9:00)
Review: UK tech house hero Archie Hamilton takes up the reins next for his Moscow imprint, teaming up with Nabucco records boss Noha here on a couple of functional and groove oriented tracks. The funky "Lip Service" is the kind of energetic and percussive driven funk that Hamilton would throw down at his appearances at the legendary FUSE London parties, while "Bored Of Life" is a reduced and trippy afterhours cut - that would be perfect for those 'get weird' moments at the morning time. Finally on the flip, Romanian power duo Cristi Cons & Vlad Caia aka SIT deliver yet another one of their awesome reworks. Their perspective of "Lip Service" ventures into esoteric and trance inducing territory, in captivating fashion as always.

Hustler (10:33)
Nova (6:25)
Review: The two remix/re-edits on this package have the feel of party-starting anthems in the making. A-side "Hustler" is a low-slung tech-house treat that peppers a typically fluid, rolling and bass-heavy groove with vocal samples from Simian Mobile Disco's 2006 hip-house banger of the same name. Flipside "Nova" is an altogether warmer and more melodious affair, working rich, ear-catching, intergalactic melody loops and glassy-eyed chord sequences before introducing a snappy, no-nonsense groove. It's the kind of cut that will make you want to hug complete strangers at four in the morning.

Review: Following up the terrific inaugural release earlier in the year, featuring heavyweights such as Jack Wickham, Paolo Rocco and Tommy Vicari Jnr - Rowle are back with Italian duo Dubfluss (Kina/Hund/Moral Fiber) and London's Rowlanz (Berg Audio/LDN). On the A side they fly solo firstly: Dubfluss serve up the druggy and bumpin' afterhours groove of "Relayx" while Rowlanz serves up the pounding hypnotic workout "Chromatic". On the flip, they combine forces on the dubby and ethereal roller "Intergalactic" which will mix in nicely with your iO (Mulen) and viceversa records. Finally, UK tech house hero Subb-an steps in for a remix of the previous track, which accentuates the dub elements and takes it down slightly darker territory in impressive fashion.

Review: Serial collaborator Romain "Traumer" Reynaud is at it again, this time joining forces with fellow Parisian producer Gregory "Point G" Dorsa for a three-track workout on INFUSE. The experienced duo predictably hits its stride from the word go, serving up some swinging rhythms, hypnotic sub-bass and Salt & Pepa samples on peak-time tech-house box jam "Push It". There's a more percussive and slightly glitchy feel to the bongo-laden "Modulation Tropique", while banging B-side "Locoliente" feels like the kind of bouncy tech-house floorfiller that Sheffield sorts Swag used to do so well in their early 2000s pomp.

Barac - "Povestea Lui Teofan" (12:58)
Baltazar - "Viento En Popa" (13:41)
Review: Hailing from Romania and Spain, Barac and Baltazar are two producers with a particular ear for dread-out percussion. Both of them have released different sorts of tunes, with the former being part of NoiDoi, but this new collaboration to launch Romanian imprint, Shamandrum, sees them push their skills even further. For starters, Barac's "Povestea Lui Teofan" is one of the deepest, darkest examples of tribalism that we've heard this year, with the tune's deranged vocal samples blending ever so well into the sparse collection of drums beneath. Baltazar's effort, "Viento En Popa", is much more straight-edged and teched-out, surely with the power to appeal to minimal heads across the globe, and more than a few fans of imprints like Slow Life. This is minimal drumming at its finest!

Tough Crowd
Review: It's been a little while since we heard from Laura Jones, but the Leeds-based producer is back in action on her own Sensoramic label with a strident EP of limber tech house excursions that highlight her continued progression as a producer. "Pathway" is a gently bouncy cut with bubbling synths coursing between the subtle swing of the beat, using vocal snippets to great effect to create a decidedly trippy atmosphere. "Tough Crowd' pushes the psychedelic approach even further with some truly wigged out tones swirling in a cut just made for eyes-closed-dancing moments. 100Hz takes on a remix of "Pathway" that uses crafty, militaristic drums and sparse treatment of the melodic and vocal elements to create a delicate, compelling alternative vision of Jones' original.

Review: For the latest missive on the Eastenderz imprint he established in 2014, East End Dubs has turned to a notoriously reliable source: Romanian minimal scene stalwart Arapu. It's the Bucharest-based producer's first missive of 2018 and also marks his Eastenderz debut. He begins in confident fashion on Side-A, wrapping distant percussion hits, atmospheric field recordings, bubbly electronics and deep space chords around a smooth but mind-altering groove rich in shuffling drum hits and hypnotic sub-bass. Turn to the flip for a bolder and arguably funkier excursion, where metallic hits and pot boiling electronic motifs spit and dart above a classically low-slung tech-house groove.

Review: Seuil aka Alexis Benard has been pushing out killer tech-house for over a decade, and we can safely say that they producer has always been one our favourites within that corner of dance music. Moreover, he has also featured on pretty much every label that has contributed to the evolution of the genre, such as Moon Harbour, Raum Musik, Supplemental Facts and Circus Company, among many others. Low Money Music Love have snapped him up, and the Berlin-Amsterdam imprint has decided to go for his more colourful, explorative tracks, such as the subtle electro knocks of "Partout Dance", and the rougher Chicago-style house of "Medoc Marteens". "Brune Acid Flash" is a trip 303 attack, complete with an aqueous aesthetic that taps into the Detroit dynasty, while "Al Comme Pacino" splurges out experimental bleeps and sonics from all angles, not to mention a wicked, dusty percussion racket. Big.
