His brand of IDM, electro and techno has been often copied but never equaled. His futuristic music seems to always be forward thinking and ultimately, timeless sounding. Review: Next Wave Acid Punks is the first compilation from Curses (real nae Luca Venezia). It's something of an epic, with similarly lofty ambitions: namely to chronicle 40 years of "dark club music", most of which has its roots in the pitch-black new wave and post-punk scenes of the early 1980s. He doffs a cap to the sound's origins on disc one, offering up pioneering cuts from the likes of Gina X, Suicide, Front 242 and Hard Corps, before bringing the story into the 90s and 21st century on discs two and three. These discs are packed with throbbing - and progressively more intense - cuts that variously join the dots between EBM, industrial, new beat, punk funk, dark Italo-disco, electroclash and much more besides. In a word: impressive.

Review: Hard-hitting Italo/darkwave from Italian group Kirlian Camera, a longtime act in the genres and one of their many defining bands. 'Communicate' is reissued from an initial release in 1983, and is as dubious and 'dark' as this kind of music can get, sounding like what would have happened to Talking Heads if each member had been given a hoverbike and rode it into a Miami sunset. Remixes from Flemming Dalum and Vanzetti & Sacco appear on the B-side - while brightening, warming and changing the instruments in parts, they prove little needs to be altered about the track in order to bring out its best parts.

Review: France's Mikado duo came to prominence in the mid 1980's, in what was the peak of the neo-romantic wave that swept every corner of the underground music game. Czerkinsky and Pascale Borel, the latter of whom later left the project, were responsible for some truly game-changing sounds that would permeate into popular culture in later years, and this 1998 comp, Forever, was the peak of their popularity. Reissued by Les Disques Du Crepescule, this tidy bit of coldwave manages to offer something sensual and heartfelt while still being experimental in its approach, offering the listener a suave and balanced drum machine approach amid its poppy coating of sounds. Beautiful.

Review: A reissue here of the debut album by seminal Italo disco act Savage. Real name Roberto Zanetti, he had his first success with this album upon its original release back in 1984, namely with the song 'Don't Cry Tonight', which was repeated the following year with the success of 'Only You', a song with which became a hit throughout Europe. There's also the bright like neon wonder of 'A Love Again', the slow and romantic 'Turn Around' and the powerful dancefloor oriented closer 'Computerized Love' complete with vocoder and Fairlight CMI stabs.
