Review: As part of Atlantic's commemoration of 75 years as a label, the early recordings of Genesis are getting a fresh airing in audiophile-quality repressing. This is the band in its purest form, with Peter Gabriel up front, Phil Collins on the drums and Steve Hackett on guitar, when they were a quintessential prog outfit who were comparable to the likes of Gong, although with a peculiarly English sensibility that's all of their ownj. Review: Kuchu: The Best Of Fishmans was first released in 2005 as the indie-label (Pony Canyon) follow-up to Fishmans' first best of compilation; the blue to Universal Music's orange, this compilation was first issued on CD only, and charted at least 20 tracks' worth of both greatest hits and rarities, neither of which could possibly all fit on a single vinyl record at the time. That all changes with this retroactive vinyl reissue of the compilation, which cuts things down to just a dozen selections, hand-picked by drummer Kinichi Motegi, from the dreamy Shibuya, dub and experimental band's discography. Held in high regard for all too long, we're very happy this one's made a comeback.

Review: Up next in the gamut of Coil-adjacent reissued gems is this 3xLP vinyl version of The Threshold Houseboys Choir's Amulet. Having gone down in whispered legend as the ultra-secret limited-quantity direct mail-order (we could go on) holy grail that flaunted Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson's then latest semi-secret solo guise, Amulet was an exemplar of Marshall McLuhan's definitive aphorism, "the medium is the message," coming housed in a hand-assembled 4xCDr mini-set enclosed in an original, circular Thai Amulet case. The second and final release of this short-lived and much coveted moniker, Amulet, now hearing the vinyl reissue it deserves, is a rough collection of obsessive ritualistic diamonds in the rough, stylistically drawing on dub, drone, power electronics and East Asian music, and brought together by Christopherson's trademark digitally generated choir - whose verbalisations are wilfully incomprehensible, with the intent to sound uncanny, dreamlike - and which he often reverses and timestretches to unsettling effect.

Review: Here is a great example at the power of the reissue market. A series of live recordings were released on CD only starting in 1994 from the band's tape archivist Dick Latvala. When the vinyl boom kicked back into heavy gear with reissues in 2012, some of these Grateful Dead were brought to vinyl for the first time. Like many things with the band, their fans are devoted as much as any in music history. Then you have another variable that adds to the demand: A band known for their live performances that are individually different in many ways over the years. Thus, prices went out of control for these costing as much as a Ferrari monthly payment. Thankfully, these are starting to get a another pressing. Volume two is highly regarded because of the live jam version of Dark Star. An ideal track to show the amazing live ability of the band. This version comes in double vinyl form with a very nice gatefold.

Review: The Wedding Present's Watusi, often overshadowed by its predecessors, emerges as a hidden gem in their discography.
