Cat: EES 034. Rel: 29 Jul 19

  4. White Pepper (Ambient mix)
Review: Especial is delighted to welcome Alphonse back to the label for a third EP to again show his deep knowledge of the past to make a future. After the debut dub-breaks-poem of Same For Me and success of his warrior afro-dance Smokey 12", Alphonse made new friends with acclaimed releases for Klasse Wrecks, Hypercolour and Black Orpheus, before here returning like a chosen one with four sun kissed blessings.

Before the fields of Letchlade, hills of Castlemorton or beaches of Skegness had witnessed Alphonse exploring the sounds of many a free party sunrise, summers were misspent travelling the "disco" buses of Europe, tripping the light fantastic from Spook to Amnesia, Disco Piu to Euritimia.

The music, shared experiences and inclusion all led to an acute understanding apparent in his production skills. Ambient dreamscapes, warm bass lines, 808 breaks, 909 kick, piano, flute and horn melodies atop all lift to the heavens. In Moan Up and White Pepper Alphonse takes, reshapes, rebuilds and rewrites to create anew, expanding minds and hearts like never before.

Long stories, short stores, a nod and wink, at its heart Stolen Sunrise is an EP of wonderful expression, a producer peaking, providing a soundtrack to share for those that look to the future horizons with love.

Review: In space where limits are non-bearing and options are infinite, a new cosmic woman was born speaking in foreign dialects. Indecisive of her new appearance & in the hopes of producing something idiosyncratic she gave birth to three specimens, her first being a perfect representation of herself, the second being mute and third being stuck in a quantum realm.

Review: On the A1 Chekov follows up their moves on Peach Discs and Timedance with a proper peak timer, they've been described by Ben UFO as 'king of the build up' and that's evident on this one. At the A2 London's Doppelate makes their Cong Burn debut with an elegant tech-house roller. Fresh from Russia's underground is Camin, on this, his debut 12" release he drops a useful tool which squeezes between electro and techno. Cong Burn founder Howes closes the B side with some warm hypnosis that could have landed in the golden era of Workshop.

Review: With Dark Slice 02, La Dame Noir records is serving up 4 tasty re-interpretations of T21 classic "Take The Shock Away" in the line of their latest Darkness Has Never Been So Bright releases. Originally re-produced by co-founder Relatif Yann, long time resident Dawad and the amazing Mounissa on the vocal, the EP also presents 3 dancefloor remixes produced by indie band Vox Low and disco-house specialists Pete Herbert and Fred Berthet. Once again the Marseille-based, La Dame Noir record label is cultivating their love for disco basslines, sensual vocals, and new wave atmospheres.

  3. T Jacques - "Context"
  4. E Wan - "Twice"
Review: New label Nuances de Nuit kick off in fine style with a various artists 12" that draws on some emergent names to lay out a vision of cross-style dance music that favours the deeper end of the pool. Things get going with an organ-rich house bumper from DJ Steaw that pumps in all the right places, before Armless Kid switches things up with an untitled slice of dynamic, richly layered electro. T. Jacques thumps out a crafty, swinging cut with techy inclinations and oodles of groove, and E. Wan takes things in a more linear, deep techno direction laden with gorgeous synth work and plenty of artful effects processing.

  2. Feeling (BFX remix)
  3. Above (feat Kenethetic)
  4. Above (Brice Kelly remix)
Review: Exzakt is in the drivers seat again with this deep, dance floor ride that touches on a lot of various vibes along the way. Feeling & Above are tracks that marked Exzakt's return and are the first tunes he produced on this journey. Feeling is moody, pure electro with many layers which touches more on his classic, original sound. BFX puts his unique take on the same tune with exciting results. Bass driven beats with hints of 4/4 keep this song moves into new exciting directions. With Kinesthetic joining Exzakt, Above is a banger which starts when the bass kicks. Deep strings and driving sonic sounds move this track until the end. For the gran finale of the EP, Brice Kelly hands in one of the freshest Electro songs you will hear today. This is truly one for our time that will be an instant classic. Brice Kelly goes all in on this amazing journey through pure Electro goodness.

Still Blind (Lauer, Jamie Paton mixes)
Cat: EES 033. Rel: 08 Jul 19
  1. Still Blind
  2. Still Blind (Lauer remix)
  3. Still Blind (Jamie Paton remix)
  4. Still Blind (Jamie Paton dub)
Review: Especial is delighted to present Phil Gerus to the label, with his personal ode to relationships, Still Blind. After acclaimed boogie, disco and italo tinged 12"s for the likes of Public Release, Superior Elevation, Leng and Sonar Kollektiv, here we present Gerus' first solo full vocal performance - eschewing samples as a natural development.

Progressing confidently from his early excursions, Still Blind finds funk'd rhodes, Prophet 5 synth, guitar, slap bass and Linn drum all wrapped around a killer pots'n'pans groove, then sent to vintage cassette. His heartfelt vocal, give a knowing, memory inducing cry that marries past and present as some Downtown NYC meets Europop, discoidiant dream.

In best presenting Gerus' first vox it seemed natural to ask Especial family member, friend and confidant Mr Philip Lauer to once again get behind the mixing desk. Still Blind is just made for his melodic wunder; with an increasing penchant for all things synth-pop, his ubiquitous arpeggio heavy but beautiful tight, rising hats, nuanced dub programming, hands high strings, plus a way with melody that brings the reversion to dance floor transcendence.

The 80s bromance complete, the flip is handed on a dubplate(r) to label remixer, designer and visionary, Jamie Paton to turn out another of his deep, drudge, dub outs. Coming as both vocal remix and dub - again conjoined in "discomix" style for the brave (dead) heads - this is Paton at his brooding, echo laden best. Rising and falling, Gerus' refrain acting as dub melody around symphonic heavy bass. Tune in and dub out.

Cat: VIS 315. Rel: 22 Jul 19
  1. An Arab In Space
  2. Vicious Love
  3. She Gets Mad
  4. Headache
Review: Kosh exploded onto the electro scene in 2018 with his debut release 'Null 212' on Casa Voyager records. The track that received the most attention was 'Catch The Train' with it's faultless modern take on classic Detroit electro reminiscent of Cybotron and Aux 88. AIt became a big track for 20/20 Vision founder Ralph Lawson who quickly invited Kosh to record for the label.

Kosh - 'Vicious Love' is a diverse 4 track EP showing off the Moroccan producers faultless production skills with the A-side featuring 'An Arab in Space' that continues to bring the classic sound of Detroit right up to date while title track 'Vicious Love' pushes into new territories, incorporating acid tinged synths, vocoded vocals and an insistent fast paced bassline. On the flip side 'She Gets Mad' is a straight up dance floor filler from the school of Casablanca while 'Headache' is precisely the opposite experience from the title with a relaxed, lush jam that oozes Larry Heard influences.

Review: We are proud to present the second record on Axces, which comes from our close friend Frits Caroe aka Popmix. Recorded in 2017 in the Nordvest Auto facilities, the three tracks on his debut give a sense of Frits' mastery of effective, simplistic melodies.

The A-side kicks off with Funtema, a candy like IDM tune whose strong melodic core will be stuck in your head for days. Next up is Klub Frimis, a Detroit meets Mario Kart DJ tool that we guarantee will rock any party. Finally on the B-side we have Teenage Club Fantasy, whose acidic bassline and dubby stabs will help ease that comedown.

Welcome to the world of Popmix!

Review: First up on Klakson's NR series is Privacy, a Berlin-based producer whose crunchy electro missives and mangled dancefloor fusions have previously graced the catalogues of Lobster Theremin, Klasse Wrecks and Cultivated Electronics. There's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout the EP, from the punchy electro beats, squelchy bass and foreboding synth-strings of opener "Slide Back", to the rolling mid-tempo dancefloor melancholy of closing cut "(Not) Again!", whose cascading chords and unsettling bassline help set a suitably clandestine mood. Elsewhere, "Filestream" is a fuzzy but melodious chunk of lo-fi late night electro, while "Go" is a high-octane ghetto-tech thriller capable of causing devastation on dancefloors that like it raw and speedy.

Review: Marginal Returns' second release presents another debut artist EP, this time bringing London's shadowy, Undersound-associated Sohrab into the light via a pleasing varied collection of club-ready cuts. Our pick of the bunch is the rubbery-and-ragged bump of "Lonely Wave", where razor sharp acid lines bubble away atop chunky synth bass and bustling hybrid electro/house beats. There's more house flavour on the "No Way Back" meets mid-90s NYC garage flex of "Conflict", while "Instrumentality" sounds like futurist Motor City techno with Chicago house beats. Finally, "Tweaker" sees him smother swinging two-step beats with starry electro and techno melodies.

  1. Sit Down Next To Me

  3. TearSystem
  4. Your Heart Starts To Race
Review: On BAS008 Bassiani welcome Voiski and his uplifting take on techno. Cascading snares, dreamy melodies and a good dose of cosmically charged sounds make "Our Brilliant Future" a beautifully crafted ode to hope. The motive comes in many facets: starting off with "Sit Down Next To Me" and it's tightly knit melody, retrospective amalgamates with futurism. Then we dive into the roaring cave of "Chasing Shadows", where the bass is deep and the synths cheeky. "TearSystem" stays true to its name: rave romanticism in its crystallized form. Fading out on "Your Heart Starts To Race" Voiski closes on a distant note, nevertheless attuned with the cosmic groove.
