Review: Manchester-based DJ/producer Yadava hasn't been releasing music all that long, but what he has put out has been superb. Here he makes his first appearance on Omena with a mini-album every bit as inspired as his 2018 debut album on Church, "It Rains Here". As with previous outings, the showcased tracks are imaginative and evocative, with Yadava blending dreamy electronics and jazzy instrumentation with grooves that variously doff a cap to dusty deep house, West African and South American rhythms, jazz-funk and broken beat. Highlights are plentiful throughout, with the richly percussive "Earth Tones", bustling "Message From Poets", jazzy "Ixelles '42" and super-sweet "Good Mourning" standing out.
Review: Son of Detroit Waajeed is back with the three-track "Ten Toes Down" EP, the next chapter in a musical odyssey through struggle and self-awareness that finds the producer creating some of the strongest work of his career.
Joined by Wu-Tang songstress Blue Raspberry under alias Candi Lindsey on "Heavy" and the tribal soliloquy "Deeper Into Blue," this new project is a reflection of many changes since last year's "From the Dirt" full-length.
'Ten Toes Down' is the first in a string of releases in 2019.
Crystal Bois - "Conga" (feat Skatebard - live at Skurkeklubben)
Review: The first Sex Tags Mania outing of 2019 comes from a familiar face: label regular Skatebard. It's the eccentric Norwegian producer's first outing for the Fett brothers' delightfully quirky house and techno imprint since 2013. He's in druggy late night mode on "Conga", layering dubbed-out U.S garage style organ stabs and warehouse-ready riffs atop a jacking, Chicago house influenced rhythm track. On the flip, Skatebard guests on a live cover of the track by mysterious Sex Tags twosome Crystal Bois. With background crowd noise guaranteeing oodles of atmosphere, the performance is sweaty, druggy, dubbed-out, intoxicating and deliciously saucer-eyed.
Review: We are proud to present the second record on Axces, which comes from our close friend Frits Caroe aka Popmix. Recorded in 2017 in the Nordvest Auto facilities, the three tracks on his debut give a sense of Frits' mastery of effective, simplistic melodies.
The A-side kicks off with Funtema, a candy like IDM tune whose strong melodic core will be stuck in your head for days. Next up is Klub Frimis, a Detroit meets Mario Kart DJ tool that we guarantee will rock any party. Finally on the B-side we have Teenage Club Fantasy, whose acidic bassline and dubby stabs will help ease that comedown.
