Nuances de Nuit Vol 4
  1. Liquid Earth - "X-Form"
  2. Huerta - "Legwork"
  3. DJOKO - "Copyrighted"
  4. T Jacques - "Voyetra"
Review: The latest collection of wayward floor heaters from Nuances De Nuit takes us once more into a colourful headspace where the possibilities are wide open to make house music with personality. Californian shining star Liquid Earth is up first, although he's better known as Urulu. 'X-Form' is a bubbling metropolis of futuristic synth squiggles with starry-eyed wonder in its heart and vintage techno smarts up top. Huerta follows up that sterling start with the enchanting electro incantations of 'Legwork', which build wonderfully on the sound laid out on his recent debut album for Voyage Recordings. On the flip, DJOKO brings a smart shuffle and some shimmering synth work to the forefront for a seriously smart twist on the tech house template, while T. Jacques opts for space age machine funk with a splash of boogie poured in for good measure.

  3. Last Chance Saloon
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Trelik reach into their recent archives with a much needed repress of Whalesong, the label's 2011 debut from UK producer OCH. With a compulsive passion for the dying art of crate-digging combined with a love for modern synthesis techniques the now Sweden based OCH manages to put together a 12" that could easily be described as psychedelic Chicago. "Whalesong" is a pulsating floor work-out which references the US greats whilst building an emotive sub-aqua soundscape. "Blind is The Wind" follows with a sneaky chord driven spoken interlude which creates an air of tension before climaxing into "Last Chance Saloon".

Review: Back once again we have the long anticipated 2nd release from Hearlucinate . Based around a party in London where each guest DJ is asked to collaborate on an EP with the Hearlucinogenic host and resident Tristan da Cunha . This time round we have the uber talented Ron Obvious laying down two killer cuts aimed straight at the dance floor . UK attitude mixes with New Jersey style organs , breaks , bass and a bad ass beats... Giving us two tracks that have an old school flavour but super fresh with a modern aesthetic. Once again showcasing his ability to produce timeless , tasteful grooves that make you move . Next up is TdC with his bass driven hypnotic hybrid sound . Picking up where from the last ep with heavy bottom end , driving beats , a spooky groove , all topped off with a dash of sleaze. To Finish the EP we welcome back Freakenstein with his electro funk monster taking no booty prisoner. Dance floor dynamite as always from this exciting new artist . As always it comes dressed to impress with heavy weight 180g vinyl and artwork from the workshop of Atelier Superplus.

Review: Burnski's Instinct outlet continues to bring some serious firepower to the resurgent UK garage scene, and this time he's facing off with 0113 (otherwise known as Kepler.) for two rabble-rousing heaters packed with inventive twists on the 2-step formula. "Apache" is an intensely detailed roller that pivots around a killer vocal take, and uses all kinds of synth flourishes to create a wholly futuristic atmosphere - the garage of the future, but certainly not future garage. "Ignite" has a slightly more old-skool flavour that nods to past masters like Smith & Mighty as well as the pioneering work of El B et al. Classy stuff on both sides of this cool and deadly 12".

Review: There's never a dull moment with the Albion posse, who continue to search far and wide to present consistently innovative twists on the house music template. This time around they've invited Italian producer Adriano Sorrentino from the DEMUT camp to drop some sparkling jackers with an old-skool palette but a forward-thinking spirit. "Inner Movement" is a sweet slice of melancholic techno rich in the synth department. "Dizzy Freq" is arguably the prize here though - a rough-hewn jacker with heavy sub bass and plenty of freaky analogue delights wobbling around on top. On the flip, Domenico Rosa delivers a funky, equally ghoulish version of "Dizzy Freq" and then the legendary Titonton Duvante lays down a sumptuous deep house take on "Inner Movement".

Review: Keeping a close eye on your dancefloors, Neighbourhood Watch Patrol is the civic-minded mystery artist at the heart of the Telomere Plastic operation. "Morning Confusion" is their second EP in as many months and once again sees the shadowy outfit join the dots between chunky tech-house, acid and electro. Bold, thickset basslines and crunchy beats are the order of the day on side A, where hip-wiggling, all-action opener "Morning Confusion" is quickly followed by the low-slung tech-house box jam that is "The Snuffles". Over on the flip it's all about electro/tech-house fusion, first via the gently pulsing, deep space shuffle of "Third Line", and then the crystalline electronic riffs and funky acid bass of EP highlight "Where's My Sofa".

Transparent Thoughts EP includes, apart from the original, an astonishing home-brewed remixes by Matt Thibideau's project Altitude and by Thor himself. Now he's shoring up on US label Adeen with a double pack of seriously bumping, soulful joints that point to a hefty amount of work refining and defining his sound. This time around they're welcoming back the ever-prolific Noha, who first inaugurated the label back in 2016 with the "Hamal" 12". This time around he's debuting the ISKRA alias, which comprises more of the keenly sculpted, propulsive but healthily unusual brand of minimal house he's been known for, but with an added emphasis on interesting rhythmic formations. Review: The latest drop on Ornate sees Neil Tolliday's Nail project metamorphose into Sentipede. His illustrious track record in UK house and techno has touched on all kinds of ventures since the DIY days, and now he's presenting something very special indeed for Ornate. The vibe on these tracks is more taut and techy, with "313151" opening proceedings on a bubbling bed of acid before the rubbery monosynth jack of "44151" on the B side. Keeping things locked into this nervy strain of warehouse tackle, "3131154" finishes the record off with some even more audacious 303 lines that will dig right into your synapses and give 'em a twist, in the nicest possible way of course.

"Obelisk" is an epic scraping the 12 minute mark with a tapestry of intricate beat design and spacious atmospherics - one to take the dancefloor to some intriguing places deep into the morning. "1M Pendulum" has a more linear house groove, and a plethora of subtle tweaks and wobbles rumbling away in the lower register. "Hotep" closes the B side with a spaced out groover that teeters on the edge of ambient, albeit with a nagging house groove holding everything together.

"Pythagorean" lives up to its name with an intricately arranged pattern of percussive threads creating a kind of geometry that crystalises around a sturdy minimal groove. "Do Re Me" features plenty of tripped out FX sweeps and swishy pads that give this roller a dubbed out flavour perfect for the after hours. "Solfegio" switches things up with a crooked broken beat template and some pointed chord drops that really lift the track into an intriguing new realm - this is classy minimal with personality so don't sleep on it!

"Quiver" leads the way with a wonderfully dynamic strain of bumping tech house peppered with fluid sound design and pinprick textures, while on the flip "Level Up" brings a fresh dose of warm, melodic synth work into the mix while still riding that oh-so crisp groove. Review: "DEFAULT makes its third release an impactful one with a range of talent in the likes of Chad Andrew, Cerec, Avidel, and of course label boss Exander.

Enigma commands attention. A pulsing analog symphony breathes life into its 4/4 structure and sends the listener into the most creative corner's of Exander's mind; creating a unique groove that ripples its way through time and space.

Chad Andrew's Elemental presents itself playful, energetic, and funk-infused. It lends itself to the nostalgic feeling of a well deserved night out and the familiar taste of a classic rhythm.

On the B-side, Cerec gifts us with Shinobi, a moody and wet display of engaging synths driven by a suspenseful cadence. It's depth is not for the faint of heart, as it has an affinity for unknown hours of the night and unlit dance floors.

Closing out the release is Avidel's Aguamenti. Juxtaposed against B1 with an uplifting melody, the Panamanian creates a track that is unobtrusively Latin and resoundingly celebratory"

There's a hi-tech finish to this whole EP, from the moody lead cut "D" to the slippery, funkified "E". The mix is clean as a whistle and maximized for every little production wriggle and shapely bassline to cut through on any system, even in the hazier clouds of pad hovering over "F". The A side opens up with a seductive blend of minimal tech beats and plush, trance-licked synths on "Conquest Of Time", which is promptly followed up by the leaner, heads-down grooves of "5am Club" for the deeper dancefloor contingent. Lee Renacre has been delivering distinctive club tracks with an ear-snagging kink since the early '90s, and he's sounding as inspired as ever on this new release. "Jive" skips and swings with urgency, but the synths soar like the loftiest Motor City anthems. "Honkey (Crazy Hats)" is a more obscure affair that uses subtle inflections of rhythm and texture to create an immersive trip anchored to a steady kick. "Ochos" is a dreamier cut that places the emphasis on melody and atmospherics rather than straight up beats, creating a beautiful slice of machine soul in the process.

The combinations were the focus; each person bringing their unique style, this natural melding deciding the genre without confines, guided by the Dj's understanding of what works in the club.

Sprinklings of nostalgia meet a future thinking fusion of dance music with a focus on slick production. There is a subject matter; not expressed through the contrived mind but through a subconscious sonic delivery, allowing the political nature of the music speak for itself.

Review: Here we have another Tech-House/Techno EP from Zooted and Booted Records... "Are You Ready"! The original mix by Dylan Debut and David Coker is a four to the floor bassline smasher that just keeps building and building until its deep analogue twisted cords send you in to a trance with solid 909 hats that sizzle all the way through. There's also the solid jacking house mix on the EP by none other than Mr deepjacking, Tommy Largo, that will shuffle its way through any bumping party, keeping it dirty and deep until the a.m. There's no stopping this EP as next on the list is an ultra-sweet deep and chunky mix by those classic Ornate boys Jonno & Tommo. This mix is hot and late night too but with some twisted extra layer and bumps that will send any man or woman crazy!!! Last but not least is the upfront dance hall thumper by none other than Eddie Leader, the bad man behind Hudd Trax. This mix has lush added extra keys and a solid old school analogue feel with some dirty little rave action running through it, but still keeping it in tune with today sounds and production. This mix would sit seriously well with the sun coming up at 5 am dancing on a beach surrounded by palm trees and thousands of party people! Play loud!

D Construction EP
Review: The brothers OdD return to their self titled label after a two year hiatus with more of that refined, off-centre minimalism they do so well.

Review: After a 17-month hiatus, Burnski and Michael James have re-united as Relic for the first of a series of fresh EPs on Aesthetic and Constant Black. This is the first of them and, in typically matter-or-fact fashion, features three more undulating, funk-fuelled tech-house jams named after letters of the alphabet. They set the tone with lead cut "H", a fluid, loose-limbed affair that features an attractive mix of bouncy tech-house drums, squelchy bass, hazy vocal samples, tipsy chords and chiming melodies. Over on side B, they first wrap creepy lead lines and clandestine chords around a booming bassline and crunchy drums on "I", before beefing up the beats and reaching for funk-fuelled bass and ear-catching stabs on bona-fide peak-time workout "J".
