Notes: Rumble of Ancient Times (RoAT) is an 8-bit noise synthesizer and sequencer inspired by the clever programming of the early PC era when an entire video game would fit on a floppy disk. RoAT is capable of a wide variety of sounds ranging from dense noise scapes to diverse glitching rhythmic patterns. The compact and portable instrument contains many elements that can be combined into surprising musical results.

The "heart" of the synthesizer contains 4 sound oscillators, each with a tunable waveform and an individual LFO, which can modulate the tone or volume of the oscillator. The modulated signal of each oscillator is mixed with other signals using 1,536 variations of complex summing algorithms that contain FM, ring modulation, bitwise logical operations and more.

The synth contains an 8-bit resonant lowpass filter with a distinct Lo-Fi character.
The built-in sequencer can be synced to an external device and also send clock out.
RoAT is battery powered and can work up to 130 hours on one set of AAA batteries.

Rumble of Ancient Times is built on a very simple 8-bit microcontroller similar to the ones used in the "brains" of old refrigerators and other simple electronic devices. Thanks to some very clever programming, it's also able to drive a very capable synth with many features!

In stark contrast to modern consumer electronics, this synth celebrates and emphasizes what can be achieved with efficiency of code and using chips considered obsolete by industry leaders. We live in an age where text editors can be 1GB or more and simple things like checking email require the latest OS and powerful processing, despite the core tasks being no different than 15 years ago with a fraction of the computational power.

So RoAT proposes a new kind of ecological thinking with the innovative use of chips that were developed and produced decades ago, instead of turning them into millions of tons of trash. We can still use technology that the industry forced us to consider obsolete, with the added benefit here of extremely low power consumption. It's an environmentally friendlier approach than galloping in the rush of planned obsolescence that damages our planet and wastes precious resources.

Rumble of Ancient Times was designed and programmed by Kakos Nonos, a new creative mind who joined the SOMA development team. His very unique style of building electronic musical instruments combines quality craftsmanship, advanced programming and a love for medieval acoustic instruments such as gusli, wheeled lyre and bagpipes.

Notes: Sequencers, sequential switches, counters, analogue shift registers... Modular synthesisers provide a wealth of creative sequential functions for controlling and processing signals. Choosing which of these to include in a system can be a bewildering task.

Except when you don't have to choose. Step 8 represents a new type of modular building block: a sequential tracking/sampling register, which can be configured to provide any of these functions, and many more.

At its heart lies an analogue 1-to-8 signal switch feeding an octet of high-stability track/sample-and-hold stages. Each of these has its own analogue output with an attenuation slider, in addition to a gate output. LEDs visualise the status of each stage in real time. The switch can be controlled sequentially using the built-in 8-step counter, or addressed directly by an analogue control voltage (CV).

Numerous advanced circuit techniques are used to avoid the issues that often plague analogue switching and memory modules. The result: totally transparent signal paths with low noise, distortion and voltage 'droop', yet high bandwidth and precision.

Add to this the ability to 'mute' the inactive stages, pause the counter, reset it, change its direction or even shift the stages on each step, and the possibilities quickly become near-endless. A scanning output takes things even further, particularly making sequencer or addressed voltage source use easy and intuitive.

WHAT? An 8 channel powerless instrument which is activated and modulated using voltage from external sequencers.

HOW? Analog circuits are powered momentarily by incoming gate and control voltage signals causing them to oscillate and breath naturally. When these circuits are linked together they can grow, inform and process one another in complex rhythmic ways.

WHY? This technique increases the unstable properties of analogue circuits, causing increased organic textures and movement. The simple controls are provided to ensure immediacy and access to rapidly alter sounds and movement without patching.

WHERE? The simplicity of the interface was designed with live performance in mind. The number of internal and external variables (control voltage types, linked channel behaviour plus external audio input) create lots of room for studio exploration.

WHEN? Pre-orders are expected to be open by the end of January 2022.

IN-DEPTH

NOON is a passive analogue drum/synthesizer. Each of the eight channels uses a unique analogue circuit with its own characteristics. No power supply is needed. Each circuit is triggered and powered individually from incoming gates or control voltages provided by voltage sequencers or modular systems. By using this unique method, we can increase instability and magnify organic aspects of traditional analogue electronic instruments. The sound of analogue, at its core, is the sound of sculpted electricity. By removing the stabilizing elements of a constant power source, we can listen to the sound of electronic circuits loading and unloading, powering up and powering down, and we can increase the natural chaotic movement of electricity. The loading of circuits creates natural ways to access swing and groove or ways to deconstruct a programmed rhythm sequence to make surprisingly new ideas.
Each channel is represented by a tuning fork. Incoming voltage can be thought of as a way to "strike" each fork with momentary voltage. Between every channel there are Link buttons which allow voltage sharing between channels. Linking them provides a wide mix of results depending on incoming voltage, active or inactive channels, slider settings, gate lengths and multichannel linking. The results can be described as cross modulation, growth (creating a larger and more complex circuit), or processing (filtering, distortion). Due to the cycles of voltage and this inherent instability, a definition of what is actually occurring between channels can be hard to pin down. The eight Mod buttons, which are located at the bottom of each tuning fork, change the behaviour and sound of each circuit. The eight latching CV buttons along the top allow the "?" Even and "?" Odd CV modulation inputs to route to even and odd channels. When incoming CV is unmuted, a channel's behaviour can change drastically and this behaviour can change further when channels are linked. These CV inputs are a way to add microtonal pitch changes and/or large textural movement to voices. The Even and Odd CV inputs are summed to their respective channels to provide a rhythmic modulation reference between multiple channels.

Limitations & Recommendations

A voltage sequencer, modular system or some form of external control voltage is required for use. This is a powerless instrument which relies upon receiving voltage and control from external sources.
Using sequencers which have the ability to vary gate length is highly encouraged due to the increase in sound possibilities and rhythmic movement.
Each model of voltage sequencer can have slightly different effects on the tonality of the instrument due to variations between manufacturers and feature sets.
Given the passive design of the device the reaction of the touch plates will vary greatly based upon what voltages are being received in which channel, if channels in are being touched in tandem, skin moisture and gate lengths. Using only trig signals can significantly lessen the touch plate response.
Channels 7 & 8 (Larynx & Bacid) will give best results being fed gate and cv voltage simultaneously. Sending trigs instead of gates to these channels may have less interesting results than found in other channels.

4 Cascading JFET amplification stages to be used individually or in series, each stage has voltage controlled feedback, stage 2 & 4 have a Sub and Air EQ sharing the same knobs, a reverse switch allows for the controls of stage 2 to be inverted.
Notes: The Cascading FET Amplifier is made up of 4 individual JFET amplification stages, each stage can be used separately giving your 4 very nice and clean analog saturators for your system.

Each stage is multiplied and then cascades into the next (when nothing is plugged into the input jack of the following stage). Cascading these saturation stages can lead to an enormous amount of gain and allows you to dial in the amount at each stage giving you a lot of control, as the stages are multiples you can remove the audio at any of the stage outputs, giving you 4 copies each one more distorted than the last.

A good way to utilize this would be to put kick drum in and remove it at stage 2 giving you a fairly crispy sound but still maintaining some dynamics and boosting the sub, then take out the same kick at stage 4 a totally distorted copy and cut the sub and boost the air to add more bite, then using an external mixer blend the two together parallel.

Channel 2 & channel 4 both have a Air & Sub band EQ that would be at home on any mastering channel strip. these EQ’S both share the same knobs, allowing for easy use of the module in a stereo configuration, using stages 1&2 for left and 3 & 4 for right, with the use of the buttons you can reverse the knobs position on stage 2, this can be useful if you are using all 4 stages and wish to preserve the low or high end on stage 2 by lowering it but boosting a cleaner version on stage 4 or if say a kick was on channel 1 & 2 and a bass line on 3 & 4 this would allow you to boost the sub or air on one while removing it on the other.

The gain stage amplifier is perfect for adding some character to your system from subtle saturation to extreme distortion and anywhere in-between.
Notes: The GAIN STAGE AMPLIFIER offers 3 stages of amplification PRE and POST with x10 gain each in series, both these gain stages have a dedicated switch allowing for soft or hard clipping, in-between these gain circuits there is an interchangeable parallel distortion with a manual and voltage-controlled send "DRIVE" that routes the signal to one of the parallel circuits connected at the back of the module and a return knob "MIX" blends this signal back in-between the 2 gain stages.

The Organelle ships with a set of common default patches, and new patches may be loaded from a USB drive. Simply select patches from a continually-growing list, transfer them to a USB drive, reinsert it in the Organelle, and play!

Don't see the exact patch you need? You can create it yourself! Patches may be created and/or edited directly on the device. Plug in a keyboard, mouse and monitor and begin customizing. The Organelle runs patches created in the powerful computer music programming environment Pure Data.

IDUM is a gate processing effect that turns its input effortlessly into IDM.
Notes: IDUM is a gate processing effect that turns its input effortlessly into IDM. Making complex electronic music with the modular usually requires meticulous sequencing done in advance or a large ecosystem of modules. Unfortunately, the level of expertise needed to accomplish this is not accessible to the average modular user. IDUM aims to make this process easier and put Intelligent Dance Music, also known as IDM, into the hands of people with average intelligence. IDUM does not require much knowledge to get immediate and compelling results; but with some extra familiarity, this module can enable innovative music making techniques. Instead of generating musical patterns on its own, IDUM acts like an effects processor for the sequences that run through it. For example, a filter or a delay allows the user to alter their sound by twisting the knobs or modulating the parameters. Similarly, IDUM manipulates the actual gates and sequences of connected modules, but with a level of playability normally inaccessible to a sequencer. IDUM can vary carefully crafted sequences or turn your music into an onslaught of controlled chaos. Its open source code and hardware based on the beginner friendly Arduino Nano Every encourage users to tweak their modules to taste or to add new features all while ensuring future improvements as IDUM makes its way into the wild.

IDUM has eight effect modes:

HOLD - Alter the length of incoming triggers.

BURST - Generates a ratcheting effect with timing determined by the clock.

MULTIPLY/DIVIDE - Generates a ratcheting effect with timing determined by incoming triggers.

BALL - Generates a bouncing ball effect.

ROTATE - scrambles the connections of inputs and outputs.

DELAY - postpones incoming gates by a dynamic amount of time based on incoming triggers.

BREAK - preset rhythms that turn incoming triggers into breakbeats.

SKIP - manipulates the clock output to multiply the clock speed or skip forward multiple steps.

In addition to these modes, IDUM features an eight step looper that loops incoming gates as well as any effects that were active on those steps.

To control when IDUM's effects are active, the CHANCE slider sets the likelihood that on a given step an effect will activate and the LENGTH slider sets how many steps the effect will last for. The PARAM knob controls a parameter unique to each effect while the MODE knob selects the mode. All of these controls as well as the LOOP status have their own CV modulation inputs.

Unique to IDUM is its ability to manipulate external sequencers using the clock output. This includes functions like: pausing the clock when an effect is active for dynamic clock division, skipping forwards or multiplying the speed of the clock in SKIP mode, and looping a sub-section of sequencer steps in the looper. To keep everything tamed while manipulating the clock, the CYCLE switch will send out bursts of clocks to catch your sequencer up with its original sequencer position after an effect has completed. Keep in mind that not all sequencers like to be clocked fast enough to work with these features, so for best results pair your IDUM with a TREE/ LEAVES combo from Mystic Circuits.

What's the first thing you think of when you hear the word "synthesiser"? Close your eyes and think about.

Anyway, for a lot of people, the word synthesiser invokes visions of big filter cutoff knobs, envelope generators, and importantly, big fat-sounding voltage-controlled oscillators. These are the hallmarks of East Coast-style synthesis.

East Beast is a fresh take on these old-school concepts with a few beastly twists thrown in here and there.

Furthermore, you can pop East Beast out of its included enclosure and it transforms right into a 40HP eurorack module
East Beast's oscillator, designed in partnership with Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers, is a part of their 5th generation of analogue oscillators stemming from a super-serious 10 years of continued research into analogue oscillator development.

Its circuitry is not a clone or based on any outside designs. It is made with 100% modern components. This keeps it very stable, and giving it a super rich, and unique sound.

Most of the filters you are used to hearing are transistor ladder filters or copies of transistor ladder filters. East Beast's filter is not one of those. Pittsburgh's whole goal of making this filter for East Beast was to create a filter that's creamy smooth with no dead spots, a very common phenomenon in all filters, but check it out. This one's got no dead spots. From nasally to biting and elsewhere, it's all one large sweet spot.

East Beast's filter is a multi-mode filter, meaning it can be used as a low pass filter, high pass filter, bandpass filter, or a combination of the three for an even wider sonic palate.
Shape the beast in your own image
To further sculpt the sounds Cre8audio has included an envelope generator & LFO. The custom envelope circuit creates a snappy, percussive attack for expressive performance. The dual range LFO opens up a wide range of LFO and audio rate modulation possibilities.

Semi-modular means that the East Beast will work without any patch cables or anything. But what fun is that? Who doesn't want to have their own personal spaghetti mess of cables sticking out of their synthesizer to get wacky with?
East Beast has basically 9 different patchable modules (Oscillator, filter, envelope, VCA, LFO, multi-mod tool, sequencer, MIDI to CV converter, and button keyboard) with a whopping 18 Eurorack compatible patch points to plug into itself and your other gear. All for your patching pleasure.

As well as this, East Beast has MIDI in and a fancy MIDI thru so you can chain multiple MIDI monstrosities together- you can plug in a MIDI controller into East Beast and do as you wish.

But wait, there's more! East Beast includes quite a few additional performance features. You can dive in and dive in with its built-in tap tempo clock, arpeggiator, and sequencer. There's a lot of opportunities to inject in some randomness too.

Dual / LFO mode

Dual mode output two different wavetables on each output. LFO mode operates as the dual mode, except that the frequency range of output two is set in the subsonic range.

Audio line in/out

Now you can easily connect anything with an audio output to your OP-Z: effects pedals, radios, synths, computers or even your phone. With audio out, you can separate and process individual tracks by routing them to the module output. The line module stereo output can even be used as two mono outputs.

Sync in/out

Tempo Sync other compatible gear to OP-Z so you're on the beat, all the time.

MIDI in/out

Line module allows you to use OP-Z to control other synths with MIDI input by using the OP-Z sequencer with your external equipment. With MIDI in, you can use an external MIDI controller, keyboard or computer to control your OP-Z.

Trig in/out

Tempo Sync and trigger sounds on modular synths, like the pocket operator modular, by using Trig out. Trig in allows any track on OP-Z to be triggered by an external signal, such as a drum machine, to single step and advance the sequence.

PO out

Tempo Sync your Pocket Operators and other compatible gear and have them follow the tempo of the OP-Z.

Powered by a 480MHz ARM Cortex M7 CPU, the E520 has 64MB on on-board SDRAM for recording up to 6min of stereo audio at 48KHz sample rate. The LCD screen and optical encoder navigation uses the same 'shallow' menu scheme of our E352 and E370 modules, with the addition of 4 'soft keys' for selecting options without having to leave the main page.

The E520 uses a premium audio path not usually found in Eurorack. Crystal Semi CODECs, TI OPA-series op amps (in the audio sections) are used along with low-noise, dedicated LDO voltage regulators for a clean, full soundstage. Audio conversion uses 48KHz sample rate, 24bit resolution with a line or synth level setting.

The Input and Output gains can be independently set for Line or Modular levels. This allows direct interfacing to DAWs/audio interfaces without a mixer or VCA stage. It also makes interfacing from your old keyboard synths/drum machines into your modular gear quck and easy.

The E520 is designed to fit into a 4ms 48HP powered PODX esktop case.

Basic features

Currently, there are 26 different algorithms included with the E520, and more can be added in the future as internal memory allows. Each algorithm can have up to 4 PARAMETERS under voltage control. The initial value of a PARAMETER is set by a panel knob, and then external CVs of up to +-5V at 10KHz can be applied. In addition, most algorithms employ feedback which can be modulated by external CVs as well. Typical PARAMETERs are delay time, LFO speeds, pitch shift amount and many others.

The row of 'soft keys' are usually 1-3 for algorithm selections (such as range of Delay Time) while the 4th is a BYPASS function. Some algorithms use the TAP TEMPO button for tapping in Delay Time, LFO Speed or similar functions. Other algorithms repurpose the TAP TEMPO as a 'FREEZE' or 'HOLD' function. The SYNC IN jack can be used like the TAP TEMPO functions, but driven by a clock or Gate signal.

The E520 has a unique 'dual chained mono' mode, where either:

different algorithms cam be placed on Left and Right channels (for example Shimmer on Left and the Voder filter on Right). This can be thought of as 2 Mono Ins, and 2 Mono Outs.
2 algorithms can be 'chained' , where the Left algorithm internally feds the Right algorithm. This is a Mono In, Stereo Out signal chain (both Left Out and Right Out can be used).
Chaining of stereo effects is not possible due to limitations of internal memory and the DSP speed required to maintain the 48KHz sample rate.
Algorithms in the E520 fall into 3 catagories:

Time Domain Effects - delay, chorus, phase shifting/flanging, frequency shifting and others.
Frequency Domain (Spectral) Effects - Our unique Spectral Crusher, vocoder, time-stretching and others.

Stereo Pattern Delay

The Stereo Pattern Delay is a stereo tapped delay line with CV-controlled tap patterns. Each channel (left / right) has its own separate delay line with two sets of taps: Primary and Secondary. The patterns are chosen from a set ov 64 and the length of the patterns can be adjusted via buttons. Mixing between Primary and Secondary, filtering and feedback all allow control over the complexity and dynamics of the output. Tap Tempo or external clocks can be used to set the base time rate and a selectable multiply/divide ratio can scale the rate.

Stereo Flanging Delay

The Stereo Flanger Delay is short delay which allows smooth control of the delay line length over intervals of 0-100ms which makes it particularly useful for Flanging and Karplus-Strong effects. This is a true stereo effect in that there are separate delay lines for Left and Right channels but they can be processed identically. The unique feature of this algorithm is the inclusion of an 8-stage allpass diffuser at the input with control over mix and length which can be used to thicken up the sound prior to flanging. Additional features are that the delay control can be done either in linear time or exponential frequency, and that the output can be set into flanger mode which makes comb-filter sounds easier to achieve.

Stereo Chorus

The Stereo Chorus is multi-tap chorus with selectable number phases and an integrated LFO with variable frequency and depth. It is a true stereo effect: the Left and Right channels are completely independent but can be processed with identical parameters. Variable feedback is available as well as selectable LFO waveform and optional phase offset between the Left and Right channels.

VCO's

The SER-2020 consist of two VCO's and one sub-oscillator, driven by VCO 1. Both VCO's deliver a triangle, sawtooth, square wave and pulse signal, which can be selected. A rich spectrum can be obtained with Pulse Width Modulation of VCO 1 and VCO 2. The LFO 1 and 2 signals can be feed to the pulse width modulation section introducing phase shift effects and Doppler frequency shifts. Since the both VCO's have a separate LFO for PWM, chorus-like effects can be obtained by controlling both pulses with different LFO speeds. VCO 2 can be synchronized to VCO 1 in different modes. Synchronization is applied when two or more VCO's have to produce exactly the same pitches, without phase shift or beat effects. When VCO 2 is detuned from VCO 1 another effect occurs, which will result in quite dramatic tone colors.
Each VCO has an individual output, also the noise generator and sub-oscillator has individual outputs. These signals are available on the patch panel.

VCF

The most important sections of this synthesizer is the filter. The SER-2020 features a very extensive filtering system, which consists of the standard 24 dB/octave low pass filter and two independent band pass filters, which together form the Voltage Controlled Formant filter.
Both band pass filters have a frequency control and a resonance control for setting the selective amplification in the pass band. The bandpass filters are equipped with a control voltage mixer for LFO, ADSR and key range voltages. The LFO control can be used for the external modulation input.
The low pass filter is an standard 24 dB/octave roll-off. It has a frequency control and a modulated CV mixer from several sources like LFO, ADSR and the key range. The LFO control can be used for the external modulation input. Also the resonance of the low pass filter can be controlled.

ADSR

The SER-2020 has two ADSR generators, of which one is used to control the internal VCA, and the other one to control the filter section. The control signal can be inverted by means of the ADSR controls in the filter section, so that the filters can be swept in opposite directions.
ADSR 1 and 2 have a positive and negative (inverted) direct output available on the patch panel.

LFO's

The SER-2020 has two independent Low Frequency Oscillators (LFO's) of which the rate can be controlled, and for LFO 2 also the wave shape.

LFO 1 generates a triangle wave which exclusively is routed to the pulse width modulation control input of VCO2. LFO 1 also generates a square wave and a pulse wave. The square wave is available as direct output on the patch panel. The pulse wave of LFO 1 is internally routed to the sample and hold generator as clock source.

LFO 2 is more versatile and can be used for the modulation of the VCO's and the filters. Moreover LFO 2 can be used as a one shot generator which means that a signal is generated much alike an Attack/Release generated function. Except for the LFO 2 rate control with the preset knob, it also can be controlled dynamically with the pad.

Touch 'N Bend Pad

Several sections in the synthesizer can be controlled with the bend pad, by pressing it with the left hand index and middle finger. The pressure sensitivity for the VCO, VCF and VCA can be adjusted. The touch 'N bend pad also reacts on the MIDI modulation control and the MIDI brightness (CC#74) control for MPE compatibility.
Also the speed of the rise/decay mode of the LFO 2 is possible. Pressing the UP pad will result in a shorter cycle, and pressing the DN pad in a longer cycle.

Notes: This mixer takes 4 mono signals, transform them to stereo and allows panoramic control over every mix channel as well as their level.

The potentiometers of panning control are with "center detent" which allows you to always know precisely where is the exact center.

The mix signal is scaled thru op-amps buffers to what will correspond to a line level so the mixer is supposed to be placed at the end of the chain to serve as an Output of your modular.

Notes: The Raster is a digital delay with a pitch and frequency shifter integrated into the feedback loop. Forward or reverse delay can be shifted once or have continuously shifted repeats. It delivers a wide range of sounds including modulated and harmonized delays, reverse delays, chorus, arpeggios, infinite descents, chaotic self-oscillation, and continuously evolving soundscapes.

The core of the Raster is a clean delay with up to 1600 milliseconds of delay time. Three delay ranges allow you to precisely dial in resonant feedback sounds and instantly change delay time with rhythmic shifts. The feedback control has infinite repeats at 3 o'clock and chaotic, textured feedback loops at higher levels. Knob responses are carefully tuned for exploration of self-oscillation and feedback on the verge of blowing up. A tone control sweeps from dark analog-style repeats to digital clarity and emphasizes the attack at higher settings. The left and right delay times can be set as a ratio, so a single knob changes both in sync. The two delay channels can be arranged in series, parallel or ping pong.

Pitch shifting repeats up or down in semitone steps creates tempo-synced arpeggios and alien organ sounds. The detune setting can dial in micro pitch shifts and chorused repeats. The left and right channels can be shifted by the same amount, a ratio, or opposite directions. At subtle settings, repeats evolve in a way that sounds natural, but different from analog delays.

Beyond pitch shifting, a combination phase/frequency shifter creates subtle evolving repeats, dissonant harmonies, and barber pole flanging. It can be pushed to extremes for ring modulation and inharmonic shifted delays that distort and break apart.

The Raster's modulation section has seven waveforms that can be assigned to delay time, pitch shift, or effect level (for tremolo). There are two random waveforms for glitchy pitch jumps, wow and flutter, and broken tape deck effects. Envelope and inverse envelope enable dynamic flanging and pitch bent delays. Stereo controls adjust the modulation amount and phase between channels, for subtle shifts or swirling psychedelic washes.

Capable of extreme sonic mayhem, the Raster can also be used with restraint to add unique character to your sound.

The Raster 2 is performance friendly, with 6 knobs and 9 switches. The original Raster was praised for its knob response and immediacy, and the Raster 2 maintains that simplicity while adding flexible modulation and extensive stereo functionality. Alternate knob settings are related to the primary knob function, labeled, and off at the center position. Both footswitches can be latching or momentary, for instant pitch jumps or quick blasts of echo. The bypass switch can also mute the output in bypass while always listening, to catch, repeat, and manipulate what you just played.

While designing the Raster 2, we wanted to enable as many classic rack mount digital delay tricks as possible while keeping the fast and intuitive control that made the original Raster so fun to use. Instead of multiple modes with generic knob names, all of the parameters are always available, so you can mix and match different effects and explore new sounds in between.

The DROID is a very flexible generic CV processor.
Notes: The DROID is a very flexible generic CV processor. It has 8 CV inputs and 8 CV outputs, all ranging from -10V to +10V. The DROID can do almost any CV task you can imagine, such as sequencing, melody generation, slew limiting, quantizing, switching, mixing, working on clocks and triggers, creating envelopes and LFO or other fancy voltages, or any combination of these at the same time. While doing this, is very precise both in voltage and in timing.

Now you can attach several different DROID controller modules in order to get direct hands on access to all parameters and values of these patches.

You tell your DROID what to do by means of a simple text file called "DROID patch". That file is be named droid.ini and is located on a micro SD card. No special software is required for writing that file. A simple text editor running on Windows, Linux, Mac or any other device will suffice. DROID patching is not programming, it's just a simple configuration file.

The building blocks of a DROID patch are called circuits. Every type of circuit performs some basic task. Just like a Eurorack module each ciruit has inputs and outputs. You can wire these either directly to the eight inputs and out or even connect them internally. Every parameter can be CV controlled. You can attach up to 16 controllers. Controllers have faders, buttons and potentiometers and allow you to map assign to any parameter or function you like. This gives you direct control over your DROID patch and allows you to create you own instrument.

Here are a few examples of what your DROID can be for you. As long as you do not run out of inputs and outputs you can implement as many of these functions at the same time in one DROID. You also can connect them together internally.

Or you simply use the DROID as a replacement for several utility modules, because it is very space efficient.

The P2B8 is a controller with two pots and eight buttons - for free assigment. You can attach up to 16 of these to one Master.
The P10 is a controller with two large and 8 small pots.
The G8 is an expander with 8 additional gate inputs / outputs.

Notes: Most musicians use their feet as an extension of their playing, either pushing piano pedals, sustain pedals, guitar pedals.

However, feet have been underrated while using modulars. In the past ADDAC released a series of modules using sustain and expression pedals for triggering or controlling signals to help breaking the ice. While these are small and still useful for simple uses, ADDAC wanted to create something more specific this time.

This new solution features 5 footswitches and 5 inputs for external expression pedals with independent controls for each.

The aim was to save HP rack space and so created an external floor pedal with all the footswitches and controls, keeping the module HP to the minimum possible featuring only the 10 outputs and the connector to the external floor pedal.

There are many expression pedals in the market and although the most common one is the TRS pedal there are 2 other standards: RTS and TS.

All five ADDAC311 inputs expect TRS pedals, if you're looking into buying one choose a TRS pedal.

If you already have other pedals channel 4 features jumpers that can be switched in order to be used with a RTS pedal.

Channel 5 features a jumper that can be switched in order to be used with a TS pedal.

You can process incoming and generate outgoing MIDI streams, both via classical DIN cables and via USB. Both the in and the out direction support polyphony with eight or even more voices in parallel.

For size reasons the X7 uses 3.5 mm TRS jacks for MIDI instead of the classical DIN jacks. But it comes with two DIN to TRS adapters, so you are free to use either form factor.

As a bonus feature, the X7 provides super fast loading of DROID patches via USB - without any need for putting the SD card in and out anymore.

Here are some examples of what you can do with the X7:

Attach an external keyboard to your modular.

When this module was first designed, the aim for what to put in the rack was a rhythmic section that would allow us to have multiple sounds simultaneously. Another priority was to save space because the number one enemy of modular systems is the space. So as a result, VEGA was born. It had to be small and have multiple functions.

In the end, FaseLunare created a module of only 6HP with 4 voices dedicated to percussive sounds with the possibility of having synthesis and samples as a sound source.

Each voice therefore has 4 samples (stored on SD card) and 1 synth engine dedicated to specific types of sound (Kick, Snare, Hats x 2)

The interface is very simple, 4 voice buttons (amber), 1 function button (amber), 2 RGB encoders and a series of coloured LEDs for the pages.

The Synthesis Technology E352 combines the latest 200MHz 32-bit ARM DSP with SynthTech's Cloud and Morphing algorithms found in the legendary E340 Cloud Generator and the E350 Morphing Terrarium.

The VCO is based upon a unique implementation of wavetable synthesis using 256 fixed-sample-length tables of 16-bit values. Each bank in memory consists of 64 wavetables, in an 8x8 array (like a chessboard). The proprietary DSP algorithms then allow either smooth or 'glitched' morphing between the wavetables in various ways. The E352 comes with 3 factory banks (192 total waves) and internal FLASH memory to hold 26 user-defined banks. This allows over 1,650 individual wavetables to be accessible. The free, cross-platform WaveEdit program is used to generate and import WAV files to user Banks.

Each VCO has 3 CV inputs (called Parameters or PARMs) which the VCO mode assigns to functions within that algorithm. In addition, there is a hard SYNC input, and the FM can be set to exponential or 3 ranges of TZFM (Thru-Zero FM).

Colour LCD/Navigation

Everyone hates 'menu-diving'. That's why Synthesis Technology focused on making the most 'shallow' menu system possible. Everything is just 1 or 2 clicks away. No endless screens and pages to remember. The encoder is a mil-spec Grayhill optical encoder with a 25yr typical life. And if it ever needs replacing, it's on a easy to access cable assembly.

The colour LCD lets you customize the colour scheme with 64 different colours to pick from.

User Wavetables and Patch Storage
You can load your own sets of wavetables using the uSD card interface. The uSD card is NOT REQUIRED to run the E352. It is also used for firmware updates. The free application WaveEdit is used to format the wave data and bank data into the proper format used inside the E352.

The E352 has internal non-volatile memory for storing both User wavetables/Banks and for Patches. A 'Patch' stores the menu settings. There are 8 Patches available, and a Patch can be quickly recalled for live performances.

VCO Modes

Although the E352 excels at smooth morphing between wavetables (first introduced in the E350 Morphing Terrarium in 2010), traditional VCO waves such as saws, pure sines, and filtered noise (using a 4-pole resonant lowpass ladder filter) can be selected. Thru-zero, linear FM (in 3 ranges) can be used on not just triangle waves (as in an analogue VCO) but with ANY waveshape or any wavetable. Here are all the different modes.

Morphing - Use 3 CVs to select where in the 8x8 bank of wavetables the output is generated. This is the E350's mode.
Morph + Phase Shifting - used when mixing with another VCO (or driving laser galvos). Audio-rate modulation generates classic PM tones. Wavetable morphing plus a voltage-controlled phase shifter.
Morph + Wavefolder - can you wavefold a wavetable? Sure you can...now.
Cloud Generator - this is an improved E340 mode. Not just saws or sines, but can 'cloud' any wavetable. A 'cloud' is a set of detuned copies (the 'supersaw' effect)
Morphing Cloud Generator - combination of Cloud + Morph modes.
2op FM - 2 operator Yamaha FM. Not limited to just sine waves, you can use wavetables as well.
Noise - 6 types of noise plus a resonant, Moog-style ladder filter
Sample Player - a 'lo-fi' sample player that treats the selected Bank as 1 giant WAV sample, with separate Start and Length points under voltage control.

PORTAL is a wave wrapping harmonic distortion.
Notes: PORTAL is a wave wrapping harmonic distortion. Similar to a wave folder, PORTAL multiplies the harmonics of a signal going through it. Unlike a wave folder once the input has hit the threshold voltage the output will jump to zero instead of folding back on itself, creating a sharp transition almost like the wave has travelled through a portal. When fed with a triangle or sawtooth this can create an effect similar to oscillator sync, but without the need for a second modulating oscillator. When fed with complex audio sources the results are devastating, turning just about anything that goes through it into mad screams from another dimension.

Three distinct flavours of distortion available simultaneously:

WRAP performs a modulo operation on the input.

ROUND performs an integer division operation on the input.

SPIKE outputs a small trigger whenever a new wrap is generated.

Four voltage controllable parameters each with a dedicated attenuverter or attenuator:

WRAP controls the harmonic multiplication amount of the wrapping effect, with the maximum wrap range being set by the high/ low switch

BIAS adds a DC offset to the input signal, allowing a second signal to be mixed in or for the input signal to be clipped.

FEEDBACK sends the output of the wrap effect back into its input causing self oscillation, ultrasound burps, higher wrap amounts and generally chaotic behaviour.

TRACK makes the wrapping effect follow the signal better or worse, also allowing the output signal to be completely turned off.

Portal utilizes high quality parts throughout:

-Power supply is reverse power protected with high quality TPS7A series voltage regulators reducing any power noise from other modules.

-Entire audio path uses OPA1654 op amps.

-Internal VCAs are Cool Audio SSM2164
