Notes: Explore the world of bytebeat algorithms with ALGODRONE!

The ALGODRONE module is a sound source based on the so-called bytebeat algorithms. These are simple formulas, usually expressed as one line of program code, that spit out a wide variety of interesting tonal to rhythmical patterns, regardless of their simplicity.

The ALGODRONE module contains a number of these algorithms plus three parameter knobs that change values within the current algorithm. These changes vary from subtle to dramatic, even with small changes, depending on the algorithm and the setting of the other parameters.

Some algorithms create sound loops, to use these more flexible the ALGODRONE can work in a kind of "granular" mode where a smaller part of the entire loop is repeated and with the POSITION knob you can move through the entire output loop.

To maximize the variability, the parameter and "granular" values can be CV controlled too!

All in all a real kaleidoscope that will surprise you every time!

The SOLINA module is based on th excellen work of Jan Ostman, who has developed a very good digital based emuation of the sound of the string synths that were popular in the music of the 70ies and 80ies, like ARP Solina (who gave this module it's name), Logan String and others.

Their unique sound is based on several, minor detuned sawtooth oscillators and an ensemble effect.

This module produces chords, which can be shaped in different ways, like selecting the base scale (minor, major), adding the 7th or a bass note and different variations of the chord. The sound can be shaped with a variable oscilator spread/detune, adding a phaser/ensemble and a tone knob for choosing the overall character between bass focused to only higher parts of the sound.

Notes: The QUANTIZER takes four different CV inputs and processes them in a way that the CV values "snap" to the exact values so that oscillators controlled by the outputs of the module play the notes of a selected musical scale. With an encoder one of 16 scales can be selected and is displayed in a text display,

Notes: A slew limiter / edge detector for CV's.

The SLEW/EDGE module has two purposes:

First, it is a slew limiter, changes in the incoming CV are softened with a variable slew time. If the CV is used e.g. for controlling an oscillator, you get a portamento. With two switches it can be controlled if only rising or falling CVs or CV change in both directions are processed with the slew time. Additionally, the choice if rising and/or falling CVs are "slewed" can be controlled with external gate signals.

The second purpose of the module is an edge detector that indicates if the incoming CV is rising or falling; this information is available as different outputs (one that is high on rising and low on falling input, and short pulses on rise / fall / any change.

The SLEW/EDGE module combines the function of a slew limiter for CVs and a CV change detector in one module. The slew operation can be activated individually for rising and/or falling CVs, either by switches or controlled by external gate signals. The edge detection generates various gate / trigger output signals depending on rising or falling of the input CV.

Module power consumption: 5 mA

The second purpose of the module is an edge detector that indicates if the incoming CV is rising or falling; this information is available as different outputs (one that is high on rising and low on falling input, and short pulses on rise / fall / any change.

The Slew detector can be useful if using the S&H module for modulation; rather than jumps it will smooth the changes between the different levels, particularly good on filter modulation, unless you want the sudden changes.

The SEQ8 is an 8-step sequencer for controlling oscillator pitch and triggering envelopes.

Compared to "classic" analog sequencers it works a bit different: Instead of setting the CV for each step independently (which means in fact "tuning" each step which can be a bit tedious), the SEQ8 has 4 knobs for presetting different CV's (= notes); each of the 8 step knobs selects one of these CVs, plus 0V (=base note) plus Pause (no trigger output). So some CVs have to be fine-tuned once; with the step knobs you can focus entirely on the sequence itself and you can even modify it on the fly, still remaining in tune.
