Review: A new philosophy as time enters a radical history of our evolution. Being and nothingness in one, creatures of habit, the angels of nature, we can herald a new humanity.

DJN4 enters in homage. Optimus Yarnspinner. Edification through music bends, but does not break the untameable lost voices. This dissolution of ego, where culture exemplifies the principle of innovation through excess, the nocturnal brain sees only what it seeks.

The order of time is more than a conspiracy of the people, this enforced interlude does not mean culture's end. Our culture, music's culture, acts as a genome, a graffiti of society.

The psy, the rave, the sounds, the species, the food of the gods. Alpha Juno, Cyclon 303, mutable instruments and ideas collated, N4's modern mysticism to harness the Earth as a being of sound. This occult features an anarchism, offering us a collective immortality, allowing us, showing us, how to be more humane.

Across eight tracks, our DJ weaves a journey to the inner and outer digi sphere, a two-year search, in to steppas, out of dub, evoking legitimate synthesis and sensibility. Look beyond Zamonia. The lost Chord. An alien dreamtime. Tales of Z.

Review: Tomas Jirku began his career in the golden era of minimal and glitch techno, helping to define the genres through releases on Alien8, Force Inc., Klang Elektronik, and Traum. Over the past two decades, Jirku has built a strong repertoire with his exploratory approach to music, experimenting across genres to develop a sound he can call his own.

"Touching the Sublime" is the culmination of this work, with material transformed through performance, experience and introspection. Inspired by his explorations of the remote wilderness that surrounds his home in Vancouver, Canada, Jirku evokes the philosophical concept of the sublime, where an overwhelming experience of awe confronts us with the limits of our rational minds. The album is a synesthetic auditory expression of Romantic era prose and stories of early alpinism. Bringing epic orchestral compositions and intimate guitar passages together with Jirku's unique sense of space and texture, "Touching the Sublime" draws from his most important collaborators and influences to create a uniquely personal result.

The album is accompanied by a limited edition photo book, where, as an accomplished photographer, Jirku has captured the landscapes and vistas that have been his inspiration.

Review: Constant Sound welcome a true stalwart of underground UK house and techno, the one and only 100HZ. Lee Renacre has been delivering distinctive club tracks with an ear-snagging kink since the early '90s, and he's sounding as inspired as ever on this new release. "Jive" skips and swings with urgency, but the synths soar like the loftiest Motor City anthems. "Honkey (Crazy Hats)" is a more obscure affair that uses subtle inflections of rhythm and texture to create an immersive trip anchored to a steady kick. "Ochos" is a dreamier cut that places the emphasis on melody and atmospherics rather than straight up beats, creating a beautiful slice of machine soul in the process.

Review: After gifting us a fresh pressing of Dimbiman's Iso Grifo, Baby Ford revives another highly prized classic from the Pal SL archives. He originally released BFORD14 in 1998, as he was diving deeper and deeper into the minimal techno sound he's best known for these days. The real charm in these tracks is that necessary rawness that comes from the era and means of production, not to mention Ford's peerless sense of groove. From the sublime meditation of "Make Your Own Sunshine" to the shimmering wormhole-worthy patterns of "Serpentine Tale" and on to the boxy house delights of "The Introducer", this is a masterful slice of late '90s techno from one of the scene's all time greats.

The imprint once again provides a stage for a nascent artist; Nesa Azadikhah from Iran is a key voice for the underground scene in Tehran. Her unique style of music assimilates her culture and personal experiences with a worldly and studious appreciation of deep techno. Alison Marks, an established producer from London has an enviable catalogue of releases as herself, Lumina and as a member of Wallflower with Leah Floyeurs. Notably heard on Rebirth and Dogmatik her music is typically filled with warmth and soul.

Review: Malin Genie's purple patch continues to yield more delights with this latest drop on his self-titled label. This time around the prolific Dutch artist is delving into smoky, hidden corners of house music where dub lingers thick in the air and rough textures scuff depth and character into the synth work. "Aventijn" has a purposeful drum machine tick but its utterly somnambulant in its execution, while "KIAR" lilts on a dusty groove and woozy clouds of funk. "Duppy" has a distinct dub techno influence, but it's still a steadfast house groover at heart, and "Amulius Numitor" ditches the beats for a pure interstellar exploration. With some bonus locked grooves for creative DJs, this is a versatile and imaginatively rendered EP with creative spark to match its usefulness in the mix.

Review: Malin Genie is back with the second instalment in his immersive 12" project, Vixere. This edition kicks off with an instantly tougher demeanour compared to the supremely chilled first one, as witnessed by the straight-up tech thump of "Troglodyte Party". "Drek" teases things back down to a heady murmur with some squashed and subliminal minimal house for the back room crowd, while "Mastodon" brings back some of those vibrant industrial textures that stood out on "Duppy" from Vixere I/II. "The Foolish & The Senseless Alike" is a more chirpy, synth rich groover and "Bodie" closes this quality project out with a richly rendered ambient sound bath.

Transparent Thoughts EP includes, apart from the original, an astonishing home-brewed remixes by Matt Thibideau's project Altitude and by Thor himself. This time however, Emo finds itself playing up-front alongside the previously unreleased Melchester Acid Pt. 3 + two wonderful raw studio jams (Home & Away Game Acid) If Emotinium is the cute & cuddly festival fave played by the likes of Aphex Twin & Feel My Bicep et al, then Shirley this bonus disc of mutant acids are the evil Gremlin offspring, fed & watered after midnight; bubbling, fizzing, hissing and multiplying. Review: The latest drop on Ornate sees Neil Tolliday's Nail project metamorphose into Sentipede. His illustrious track record in UK house and techno has touched on all kinds of ventures since the DIY days, and now he's presenting something very special indeed for Ornate. The vibe on these tracks is more taut and techy, with "313151" opening proceedings on a bubbling bed of acid before the rubbery monosynth jack of "44151" on the B side. Keeping things locked into this nervy strain of warehouse tackle, "3131154" finishes the record off with some even more audacious 303 lines that will dig right into your synapses and give 'em a twist, in the nicest possible way of course.

"Obelisk" is an epic scraping the 12 minute mark with a tapestry of intricate beat design and spacious atmospherics - one to take the dancefloor to some intriguing places deep into the morning. "1M Pendulum" has a more linear house groove, and a plethora of subtle tweaks and wobbles rumbling away in the lower register. "Hotep" closes the B side with a spaced out groover that teeters on the edge of ambient, albeit with a nagging house groove holding everything together.

"Pythagorean" lives up to its name with an intricately arranged pattern of percussive threads creating a kind of geometry that crystalises around a sturdy minimal groove. "Do Re Me" features plenty of tripped out FX sweeps and swishy pads that give this roller a dubbed out flavour perfect for the after hours. "Solfegio" switches things up with a crooked broken beat template and some pointed chord drops that really lift the track into an intriguing new realm - this is classy minimal with personality so don't sleep on it!

This time around they've invited Italian producer Adriano Sorrentino from the DEMUT camp to drop some sparkling jackers with an old-skool palette but a forward-thinking spirit. "Inner Movement" is a sweet slice of melancholic techno rich in the synth department. "Dizzy Freq" is arguably the prize here though - a rough-hewn jacker with heavy sub bass and plenty of freaky analogue delights wobbling around on top. On the flip, Domenico Rosa delivers a funky, equally ghoulish version of "Dizzy Freq" and then the legendary Titonton Duvante lays down a sumptuous deep house take on "Inner Movement".

  4. DJ Guy - "Aphelion Orbit"
Review: The fourth multi-artist EP from blog-turned-record label Innate takes the imprint's inherently warm and far-sighted sound into new intergalactic directions. Offering a quartet of cuts from established producers and rising stars, all inspired by dreams of cross-cosmic travel and the alluring weightlessness of deep space. 004 explores the love of stargazing electronics in much greater deapth.

The A-side is all about melodious and spacey electro with Dutch legend Aroy Dee making a rare appearance away from his acclaimed M>O>S Recordings label. "Leegte" A1 is impressively immersive, cloaking a jaunty bassline and lo-fi beats in sumptuous aural textures and glassy-eyed chords. Accompanied by Innate label regular Gilbert, "Furthest Planet" A2 is a deep roller whose lilting lead lines, shimmering electronics and tumbling acid lines are little less than life-affirming.

On side B, the sound subtly shifts towards the multi-coloured, sci-fi shimmer of techno. Newcomer Jonski, (aka Bristol electro producer Zobol) drops "Venusian Surface" B1 - a classic interstellar jam full of vivid chords, echoing synth squiggles and alluring leads that rise above a classic tech-funk bassline. Last but not least, effervescent Welshman DJ Guy (Unthank/Other World Music) slams down an energetic techno stomper in "Aphelion Orbit": boasting brilliantly breathless drum programming, illuminated by the celestial shimmer of accompanying chords. A perfect conclusion to Innate's most action-packed release to date.

Review: Following his joint drop with Denham Audio, Bristol's Borai fires up the third installment of his Higher Level label with another two precision-tooled rave bombs. Building on a catalogue 10 years deep and a versatile production style that spans deep house, techno, garage and breakbeat, Borai has been busy feeding his heavyweight productions into the scene via his Club Glow project (also with Denham Audio) - first as a mixtape in 2018 and now expanding to encompass events too. As with much of his recent work, HL003 leans heavily on early rave tropes re-figured for flexible assimilation into open-ended, genre-agnostic club music zeitgeist. "Carpet Bagger" has a propulsive 4/4 thrust, but its nightmarish bass drops and stabs are pure darkside. "Sanctuary" (surely shouting out the seminal '90s Milton Keynes spot) takes a sweeter direction - silky smooth chords and diva vocal licks riding over a rolling Hot Pants break. This is classically informed rave tackle given a gleaming finish - heavy in the low end and bright on top for maximum devastation in the dance. Take note too - HL003 also welcomes a new artist into the fold for the sleeve design, Nuff Gal. The Bristol-based illustrator perfectly captures the playful energy of Borai's productions, ushering in a striking new aesthetic for Higher Level.
