Review: On BAS008 Bassiani welcome Voiski and his uplifting take on techno. Cascading snares, dreamy melodies and a good dose of cosmically charged sounds make "Our Brilliant Future" a beautifully crafted ode to hope. The motive comes in many facets: starting off with "Sit Down Next To Me" and it's tightly knit melody, retrospective amalgamates with futurism. Then we dive into the roaring cave of "Chasing Shadows", where the bass is deep and the synths cheeky. "TearSystem" stays true to its name: rave romanticism in its crystallized form. Fading out on "Your Heart Starts To Race" Voiski closes on a distant note, nevertheless attuned with the cosmic groove.

Review: Birmingham experimental dub terrorist Mick Harris inaugurates new Madrid imprint Trauma Collective here as Monrella, with four brand new executions of sheer naked aggression. It was under this moniker that Harris (aka Fret/Lull) released half a dozen EPs for Karl O'Connor's ZET label between 1996 - 2002 - a strong departure from his previous involvement in seminal grindcore outfit Naplalm Death, and the experimental Scorn project (with fellow band member Nik Bullen). Fierce, functional and direct impact grooves that lunge straight for the jugular, the cuts featured on the Build Time EP recapture the zeitgeist of legendary local club night House Of God - an institution responsible for unleashing fellow legends such as Regis and Surgeon back in the day. Although somewhat overlooked, Harris' sound under this alias has most definitely evolved, and follows through with enough dancefloor dynamics to blend with other modern techno sounds.

Review: Newcastle via London label Jaunt Records revisits its 10 year anniversary EP from 2017 with a series of great remixes by Inland, Jonas Kopp, Jasper Wolff & Maarten Mittendorff and Gian. This is the first of two EPs planned, and it offers up a timeless mix of heady techno and slick electro.

Berlin based Brit Inland tackles Jaunt resident Blackhall & Bookless's 'Spirit' and serves up a heavyweight wedge of warehouse techno. On the same side, Jonas Kopp flips 'Itria' into a sci-fi tinged bit of dub techno and long time studio partners Jasper Wolff & Maarten Mittendorff from Indigo Aera offer widescreen synth work and blissed out pads all tethered to rolling and rubbery drums. Gian's take on Stojche's track is a fantastically crisp and futurist piece of electro that will get anyone on their toes. This is a classy EP that showcases the sort of sounds you will hear on any Jaunt dance floor.

  1. X To C

Review: Robin Ball's Memory Box builds on the success of early releases with a big new outing that features two of his own tracks and one from the legendary Luke Vibert. Memory Box is a party that has hosted Derrick Carer, Trevino and A Guy Called Gerald among others, and is a place to hear proper acid house. Ball himself is a master of the genre and most often released on his own Groovepressure label, having been making music since his teens. Now his latest labour of love is once again reaffirming his status as a vital voice in the UK scene. Luke Vibert has a rich history that makes him a key part of the UK's dance counterculture over the last 30 years. His always animated music is wild and inventive and comes on greats like Mo Wax, Warp and Planet Mu. Here he offers 'X to C', a wild melange of warped synth tones, grizzled basslines & acid flashes. It will twist and turn the dance floor inside out. Robin Ball's excellent 'Gripper' is a corrugated bit of electric house music that never sits still. Pensive pads in the background are offset by a busy lead synth line and old school stabs that make it a perfectly timeless, energetic fusion of moods and grooves. Lastly, Ball serves up 'The Edge,' a brilliantly brash cut with stepping acid sequences, raw drum work and warped bass that distills decades of UK music into one essential track. These are three devastating club cuts that expertly draw on the past, present and future of acid.

Review: Path Records' second release for 2019 showcases label head Reade Truth releasing a stunning EP that saw their debut during his 2019 live tour. With hard hitting Brooklyn flavoured techno-electro beats and his trademarked immorally playful sampling style positively punctuate this exceptional release. The New York native has released on a plethora of serious, for those who know, labels including: Planet E, Strictly Rhythm, Sonic Groove, Black Market, and Cartulis Music. Path Records is known for their uniquely deep electronic visions. With a steady mixture of both new material and old unreleased tracks, the label remains hotly anticipated. Here, the Macedonian sonic strategist sets his sound palette ever wider whilst still maintaining his signature emotional pads and haunting melodies integral to all his productions. His hauntological approach bears fruit throughout -the future fails us so let's explore different futures, different interpretations of the past, the present. Certainly a maturation in sound, this manifesto offers up 4 distinct meditations on the continuum of electronic sound from the early 90s through to the present day and beyond...

Review: Mike 'Agent X' Clark is a true hero of the Detroit scene, but he rarely gets the props he deserves, making any outing of his a cause for celebration. El Provost's No Speakers label knows what's up, and they've drafted in Clark for his killer jam "The Heat." The name is no foil, this track will set any party ablaze with its distinctive speech sample and saucy rhythm section. Alongside the original, there is a strong cast of remixers on hand to serve up deadly variations, from the label boss' skipping, psyched-out groover to Ben Sims' appropriately thumping techno workout. Peter Rocket especially impresses with a crafty breaks version that should slot in nicely with the resurgent electro scene.

The Swedish trio shows off athletic skills producing fresh modern techno bangers, on the heels of a three decade trajectory, filled with countless highly appreciated releases. Some kind of "glorious habit", captured this time by the catchy Madrid label on vinyl. Bizarre 4/4 analogue-treated techno madness at its best! A brilliant vinyl slice of yesterday and today's nastiest Scandinavian floor-destroyer-dance-punk weirdo science.

Review: Lock up your 303s, Roy Of The Ravers is back with a brand spanking new album and it's quite possibly his strongest and wrongest to date! Following a limited run cassette version of the album, Who Are Ya lands on gatefold vinyl and spans 10 tracks and nearly 60 minutes of top quality turns, which sees our star player's BPM rising up into tougher, more hardcore-esque territory (Supremacy Acid, Roy Shat Over Ref) Who Are Ya also takes in some seriously smoked-out, slow-mo squelchers (Phaelon Acid 4, The Box) essentially making it a game of 2 halves (no mid tempo tracks allowed - ok??!) Through-out all of the album's giddy twists and turns however, it's Roy's trademark 303 constantly on the boil that crowns him man of the match, as he dribbles it skilfully from in and out of the mix, making him top of the league for acid once again. Hoorar!!

Review: The next logical step in the Chronicle catalog sidesteps the typical press-artist relationship and comes to us straight from the (un)known. A record that is as compellingly clandestine as it is forceful, it wastes no time securing a slot next to some of the most enigmatic ""Unknown Artists"" of our time, which count some of the most prestigious artists out there among them.

Upon hearing the music, identity becomes irrelevant. The typical rough and booming kicks have been replaced here with something more streamlined and tactful. A certain eerieness permeates throughout the entire body of work, gently hypnotizing us into a cadenced submission. A record for moments of phantasmal bliss within times of uncertainty.

After a commemorative EP on Stobelight Network in 2016, Den Nard Husher strikes back with their first release since a 20-year production hiatus. It is enthralling to see how their fast-paced bustling techno renditions morph with time yet still encapsulate our body and imagination in that same meteoric signature. Den Nard Husher sounds fresh, blistering in a seemingly never-ending post-Y2K aesthetics.

Feeling & Above are tracks that marked Exzakt's return and are the first tunes he produced on this journey. Feeling is moody, pure electro with many layers which touches more on his classic, original sound. BFX puts his unique take on the same tune with exciting results. Bass driven beats with hints of 4/4 keep this song moves into new exciting directions. With Kinesthetic joining Exzakt, Above is a banger which starts when the bass kicks. Deep strings and driving sonic sounds move this track until the end. For the gran finale of the EP, Brice Kelly hands in one of the freshest Electro songs you will hear today. This is truly one for our time that will be an instant classic. Brice Kelly goes all in on this amazing journey through pure Electro goodness.

  4. Jonno & Tommo - "Efficacy" (Havantepe Emax Potentiation)
Review: Receptor Theory is the seventh release on Verdant Recordings and the first of several scheduled for 2019. Once again we find carefully selected compositions assimilated into another elegant EP of guaranteed deepness. The EP sets tracks from Berlin's Sirko Muller (Tokomak / Wandering) with Ornate Music's Jonno & Tommo on each side plus serious remixes from Verdant favourites RV800 and Havantepe (last seen together on the 2017 Aura EP). It is measure of the label's growing rep that these producers sought to be featured by the label away from their established imprints. The original Affinity and Efficacy tracks are assured yet subtle, dub inflected grooves but each are treated quite radically when reinterpreted. The RV800 reshape of Affinity moulds it into peak time tech house territory with a playful 303 bassline. Havantepe changes up Efficacy with devastating effect; the remix is a sinister breakbeat slow burn with a creeping & growling 303 bassline and a very strong conclusion to this intriguing EP. An EP for students of the deep and scientists of the mind.
