There's always an electroid streak to the legendary producer's sound, but he's equally tipped towards the steady thump of 4/4 on this particular outing. That doesn't dilute the imaginative brushstrokes of his immaculate production one jot, best demonstrated on the sparkling 'Count On It' with its rich layers of modulating synth work. Noha offers reinterpretations of both original tracks on the B side, edging in a little more Euro techno functionality without dampening the flamboyant spirit of Finlow's production style.

Review: Time Passages celebrates their ten years of existence with a stellar line up of artists; this is the full LP to complement a shorter EP. A fine lineup indeed! The mood on this one is decidedly hellish yet, of course, for that very reason, tempting to cop; this being the characteristic of the flagrant provenance of DJ and producer Binh, whose brand of sinister minimal techno and electro always turns up scorched, hardened into granite, by the embered airs of hardcore. The Berlin outfit welcome The Model and DJ Hell on the A1 side, with the first opening up his own private bacchanal into the hungry streets with 'Eat More House' - a motto we can really chew on - while Hell's 'Alienation' plays on similar themes, with a central acid riff and sniper clap pattern. Barnt and Bezier steer and slow the B-side to a canter, the latter especially on the low-slung, ominously new beat-inspired 'Roter Faden', while the likes of Z@p and DC Salas go on to encrust the ensuing sides with a haunted clog of synthpop and new wave judder-offs. First up he serves up a special edition dub of 'Frozen Rose' that is a signature sound for him: ice cold percussion and rolling east with watery, liquid, rippling chords disappearing off to an infinite horizon while shimmering vocals add extra layers of depth. Flip it over and you will find 'Precious Times' (feat Prince Morella - Roots version) which is another brilliantly heady back room sound.

This one again comes from DDrhode and opens with 'Ghoroob' which is a super nice and icy deep dub roller with smeared pads and heady ambient vibes. The dub slows things down and adds even more bottomless dub depths. 'DD2' (Sohrab dub) is a warm, peaker number but still very much a late-night and backroom jam and the Down The Rhode version of the A1 is a conscious classic with deep meaning and deeper rhythms.

Growing up in Harrow during the 70s and 80s, Biswas was influenced by David Rodigan's dub shows and the post-punk experimentation of the era. His eclectic tastes spanned punk, free jazz, noise, and Indian Classical music, which he fused with his ever expanding record collection. By 1987, his music prefigured what would become techno and gave rise to this album which was released in 1994 by Rising High Records. Science, Art And Ritual now celebrates its 30th anniversary with a deluxe 3LP reissue featuring restored tracks and some bonus new material.

Review: Dan Andrei is arguably one of the finest selectors of this generation and a master minimal producer who makes electronic music of the highest order. His latest outing sees him inaugurating his own brand-new label alongside Claudiu Stefan. Rainbow Hill is a platform for their more personal ideas and starts with four more of Andrei's brilliantly deft yet dramatic tracks. 'Numan's Touch' kicks off with rolling drums and bass and a fine eco-system of cosmic pads, twinkling keys and fizzing synths that are theatrical and involving. 'What Else?' then gets darker and more intense with heady loops and wispy pads, and again the ante is upped and the darkness pervades once more on the tense and taught dub-tech roller 'This Is What I See'. Last of all, 'Bluer Than Ever' floats above the floor with airy pads and radiant chords. A perfect 5am vibe.

Review: Burnski's Constant Black label puts out constantly good sounds for all those of a minimal and tech house persuasion. This 33rd such outing comes from Per Hammer who offers a trio of irresistible grooves. 'Everybody_hz' kicks off with rubbery drums and bass intertwining with each other while wonky synths up top add some tripped-out feels. A Varhat adds a little extra bounce and urgency to this silky late-night hypnotiser and then it's back to Hammer for 'The Danish URL'. It's a hooky groove with warped pads rippling up top while closer 'Arkivo' is a more textural and abstract affair with a nice dubby undercurrent.

Review: It's beyond the basics with a fresh new dub excursion for the premium customer; Another Channel amp up the form pioneered by the patently referent Basic Channel with a worthy widescreen dub upgrade. This eight-tracker from the Polish outfit nails the latter's original formula, whose essence lay in the irresistible combo of muted low end scoop-out drums, faint squinty noises, and Renaissance-perspectival ricochets, each component of which never once settled into rhythm or sound interpretable as a copy-paste prescription. Yes the flavours here are all analogue and none 'generative', as was the original intent of the dub techno pioneers. Another Channel's emulation of the sound is as faithful as a blindfolded chaplain, the strongest testament to which has to be the tricky sizzler known as 'Solid'.

Review: Fletcher and Steve O'Sullivan have often worked or appeared together in the past so it makes sense that the former now invites the latter to be the first person to release on his newly minted and always sure to be worth checking Social Currency imprint. They take the reins together across floor-focussed cuts that are marbled with deep pads and introspective sounds. 'Cold Calling Blues' is warm and airy with smoky vocal sounds and precision dub techno drum loops, 'Midnight At 1:30' hits a little harder but is still zoned out and serene and 'Shatner's Groove' takes on subtle deep space moods with deft pads and spoken word additions.

Review: Synchropone reissue Ellery Cowles' iconoclastic 'Sonic Control' EP, originally released in 1995 on the legendary Djax-Up-Beats label. We've no idea of the kinds of sonic preservatives Cowles injected these beats with, but we do know that the Chicago DJ and producer's debut EP has - to indulge an old but gold phrase - "stood the test of time". Just as it was, the reissue preserves the original's sound, albeit now brings it to marvellous marbled blue splatter vinyl. Best among the bunch here are Cowles' career-definer, 'It's Taking Control', across which the 4x4 still janks and tussles slightly, as though the imperfections of whatever medium it was made with were forcing it to lapse the usual perfect timing of techno. And the title track, too: tintinnabular to the point of tittilating, we're bowled over by its singular, bell-laden universe, by which point it seems more or less proven that Cowles really did exercise at least something along the way towards total 'sonic control'.

Review: "There are a lot of DJs now, I call them horses...", goes the open-ended narrative exposition of Andre Kronert's 'Open Our Eyes'. Even though the track refuses to erogate any further its musings on other DJs, there is an implied sense of oneupmanship and largesse. Said lay DJs are meant to be jockeys, but they end up defaulting to acting like the "horses" they ride; and here we can be sure that something's gone wrong; that some impinging force, be it economics, be it sheer want of will, has stolen from them their agency, their creativity, resulting in bland, with-the-grain selections. Kronert betrays his stated antagonism - to archetypal lapsing into unthinking fanservice on the part of the DJ - via four turbid, low-slung mini-tech weight heaters, each of which grow increasingly dubby and stabby as the EP progresses; we're asked to 'Close Our Eyes' again by the time of the B1, suggesting an immanent limit to our aspirations as DJs, and those long-tailed piano chords on the 'Revelation mix' also carry serious transcendental implications.

Review: Prince's Castle Records, a new label outing from Barcelona, promises no end of regal records rollicked our way. Set to drop more wax than the castle bastion's feather-torture chamber; more steel than a well-worn portcullis. Lowering the drawbridge on two new ones, we hear fresh music from the gallant Prince De Takicardie himself; while he is something of a prince charming, there's also a bloodthirsty, impale-y underside to the whole thing. With its urgent voxxes and crushing drum spits, opener 'SpaceKrashhh' offers no alternative; it's either storm the ramparts or face the gibbet / drown in the moat. Then B-sider moves Shakespearean with things on '2 Be Or Not To 3', Takicardie staking the heads of his slain opponents on spikes; *drum transient* spikes, that its (wink).

It's a great statement of his sound and is sure to prove a timeless mix.

Review: Jamie McCue, who is behind the classic Silent Season label, steps out here with a new label called Moon Garden. Hidden Sequence inaugurate it with a limited edition 7" that sets a great standard from the off. 'Studio A' is a liquid dub with delicate hi-hats sprinkled over loose, tumbling drums and rich sub-bass. It's vast in sauce and impossible not to sink into. 'Mystical Dub' on the B-side is an even more paired back ambient dub with a barely-there rhythm slowly unfolding beneath conscious mutterings and distant, muted melodies. It's late-night weed music of the highest order.
