Review: After long lust, Roy's mega anthem Emotinium finally gets re-released into the wild, following its original inclusion on the lo-fi Acid Waxa cassette classic 2 Late 4 Love + the much sought after 12" EP version released in 2016. This time however, Emo finds itself playing up-front alongside the previously unreleased Melchester Acid Pt. 3 + two wonderful raw studio jams (Home & Away Game Acid) If Emotinium is the cute & cuddly festival fave played by the likes of Aphex Twin & Feel My Bicep et al, then Shirley this bonus disc of mutant acids are the evil Gremlin offspring, fed & watered after midnight; bubbling, fizzing, hissing and multiplying. Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

  3. Dizzy Freq (Domenico Rosa remix)
  4. Inner Movement (Titonton Duvante Flip)
Review: There's never a dull moment with the Albion posse, who continue to search far and wide to present consistently innovative twists on the house music template. This time around they've invited Italian producer Adriano Sorrentino from the DEMUT camp to drop some sparkling jackers with an old-skool palette but a forward-thinking spirit. "Inner Movement" is a sweet slice of melancholic techno rich in the synth department. "Dizzy Freq" is arguably the prize here though - a rough-hewn jacker with heavy sub bass and plenty of freaky analogue delights wobbling around on top. On the flip, Domenico Rosa delivers a funky, equally ghoulish version of "Dizzy Freq" and then the legendary Titonton Duvante lays down a sumptuous deep house take on "Inner Movement".

Review: The second release on the Masaala label explores a brief time in the late 80s and early 90s, when musicians were fusing Acid House with Bhangra. One of Leicester's unsung DJ heroes was Cutmaster Singh, who for this record has revived a selection of his own edits from back in the day. Also included is Cutmaster Singh's massive 'Acid Agah', an unreleased 1994 dubplate that more recently you might have heard being championed by Mr Scruff.

On the A side we have the Swiss techno sensation Idealist delivering an after-hours dancefloor essential, while Ben Buitendijk bring the tempo down into a meditative chillout extravaganza. Live From The Sea Of Tranquility
  1. Heart Sutra
  2. The Soft Machine
  3. Interzone
Review: Before the recent rise in '90s style psychedelic, ambient-influenced electronic music, one of the only producers offering up this kind of hallucinatory revivalism was Nick Harris AKA A Sagittariun. If truth be told, his productions are still a cut above the rest, as this fine outing on Craigie Knowes proves. The famously cynical (and, we should add, hilarious) Bristolian is in a positive frame of mind on bubbly, melodic opener "Heart Sutra", where a variety of melodic elements spar cheekily atop a rubbery electro beat. "The Soft Machine" sees him introduce some typically tough, mind-altering motifs on a darker and more psychedelic electro workout, while "Interzone" is rush-inducing, sunrise-ready dancefloor straight out of the top drawer.

  4. Trancia
Review: Philoxenia is the new label by Neu Verboten and Luigi Di Venere. The first instalment comes from Steve Marie, a self-taught Paris based Corsican producer. HO! is the name of Marie's release with the Berlin based label. The opening title track is a moody sky of synths, bleeps and piercing acid notes, swaying on a solid breakbeat. B2 'Devil Inside' is an emotional ballad for vampires in love. On the flip the slow beat 'Romanee Conti' conjures the scene of a film noir. 'It doesn't have to be a perfect world', the voices say, while a whipping snare supports the cinematic sonic layering. 'Trancia' is a135BPM dancefloor pleaser. Picture Love Parade between 1997 and 2001: the sun soaks Berlin streets; the city glows and pulsates; thousands gather in peace, for fun. This track brings that glorious world to life, while soundtracking dreams of more joyful days to come.

  1. Aroy Dee - "Leegte"
  2. Gilbert - "Furthest Planet"
  3. Jonski - "Venusian Surface"
  4. DJ Guy - "Aphelion Orbit"
Review: The fourth multi-artist EP from blog-turned-record label Innate takes the imprint's inherently warm and far-sighted sound into new intergalactic directions. Offering a quartet of cuts from established producers and rising stars, all inspired by dreams of cross-cosmic travel and the alluring weightlessness of deep space. 004 explores the love of stargazing electronics in much greater deapth.

The A-side is all about melodious and spacey electro with Dutch legend Aroy Dee making a rare appearance away from his acclaimed M>O>S Recordings label. "Leegte" A1 is impressively immersive, cloaking a jaunty bassline and lo-fi beats in sumptuous aural textures and glassy-eyed chords. Accompanied by Innate label regular Gilbert, "Furthest Planet" A2 is a deep roller whose lilting lead lines, shimmering electronics and tumbling acid lines are little less than life-affirming.

On side B, the sound subtly shifts towards the multi-coloured, sci-fi shimmer of techno. Newcomer Jonski, (aka Bristol electro producer Zobol) drops "Venusian Surface" B1 - a classic interstellar jam full of vivid chords, echoing synth squiggles and alluring leads that rise above a classic tech-funk bassline. Last but not least, effervescent Welshman DJ Guy (Unthank/Other World Music) slams down an energetic techno stomper in "Aphelion Orbit": boasting brilliantly breathless drum programming, illuminated by the celestial shimmer of accompanying chords. A perfect conclusion to Innate's most action-packed release to date.

On the B side "Boulevard Mystere' is an ode to Boulevard Barbes in Paris, the track is characterised by haunting melodies and a warm analogue bass.B2 is a dreamy and evocative number with the use of Juno 106 spacey sounds and 808 drum patterns.Enigma EP is contemplative, audacious and imaginative.

The result is a masterfully crafted atmospheric glacial dub techno journey from beginning to the end. Transparent Thoughts EP includes, apart from the original, an astonishing home-brewed remixes by Matt Thibideau's project Altitude and by Thor himself. Altitude mix is deep, and has some serious dub treatment but still packing nice punch for the dance floor. Listen in as they share all of their experience in brewing and consuming beverages (hic)...[Review by Pietro @ Igloo Magazine] "A double album from two acid mavericks Roy of the Ravers and Myoptik...85-minutes of acid-drenched braindance mayhem that is disjointedly playful.Myoptik's side of the platter stirs a myriad of distorted found sounds, vocodered samples, broken techno, and electro fragments into a proverbial sonic soup while Roy of the Ravers delves into early-era rave-infused acid techno and crackling breaks (as would be expected), only to balance each other out as a whole.Such a plethora of experimental and movement-based nostalgic electronics makes for an energy-packed collection that traverses a historical backdrop of early 90s warehouse raves.Listen in as these two musicians share all of their experience in brewing and consuming beverages, while somehow managing to record the results."

Review: In the earliest days of his near three-decade career, Norwegian veteran Bjorn Torske released some rather fine Detroit and Sheffield-influenced techno on DJax-Up Beats, initially alongside Ole Mjos, as Ismistik. "3rd Trace", which was originally released way back in 1993, may well be Torske and Mjos's most potent and alluring release of all. Check first the galloping, sci-fi-fired Motor City tech-funk of "Resync", before focusing on the weighty, bleep-laden surge of "Option Bass", a kind of Norwegian take on Yorkshire Bleep & Bass. "Moonspace" is a brilliant tribute to Derrick May's mid-to-late '90s Transmat sound, while "Linked Modules" is altogether deeper and dreamier, with the pair - now Norwegian scene legends - peppering a tactile techno groove with bright and breezy melodies. In a word: essential.

In that time he's released just as handful of 12" singles, though all have been spot on. There's plenty to enjoy on the Greek producer's first outing on Mancunian label CLERGY, from the warehouse-friendly, stab-happy stomp of opener "Critical Ratio", to the similarly slamming surge of closing cut "Chroma", where hands-aloft riffs and short, looped female vocal snippets ride a booming, lo-fi techno groove. Sandwiched in between you'll find more rave-ready business, with the clap happy, organ-sporting peak-time sweatiness of "Memorex" standing out.

He's at it again here on a pleasingly uncomplicated and on-point three-tracker for Rawax. A-side "Off Message" sets the tone, with O'Sullivan layering deep space chords and gentle intergalactic melodies atop a tough-but-rubbery beat. The sweatier and sleazier "Night Nurse" boasts fizzing, fill-happy drum machine percussion and deep space chords that recall the early years of Detroit techno, while "Porcupine Grove" is a snappy, pitched-up romp rich in crunchy TR-909 beats, faintly foreboding background chords and tight melodic loops.

His illustrious track record in UK house and techno has touched on all kinds of ventures since the DIY days, and now he's presenting something very special indeed for Ornate. The vibe on these tracks is more taut and techy, with "313151" opening proceedings on a bubbling bed of acid before the rubbery monosynth jack of "44151" on the B side. Keeping things locked into this nervy strain of warehouse tackle, "3131154" finishes the record off with some even more audacious 303 lines that will dig right into your synapses and give 'em a twist, in the nicest possible way of course.

He originally released BFORD14 in 1998, as he was diving deeper and deeper into the minimal techno sound he's best known for these days. Building on a catalogue 10 years deep and a versatile production style that spans deep house, techno, garage and breakbeat, Borai has been busy feeding his heavyweight productions into the scene via his Club Glow project (also with Denham Audio) - first as a mixtape in 2018 and now expanding to encompass events too. As with much of his recent work, HL003 leans heavily on early rave tropes re-figured for flexible assimilation into open-ended, genre-agnostic club music zeitgeist. "Carpet Bagger" has a propulsive 4/4 thrust, but its nightmarish bass drops and stabs are pure darkside. "Sanctuary" (surely shouting out the seminal '90s Milton Keynes spot) takes a sweeter direction - silky smooth chords and diva vocal licks riding over a rolling Hot Pants break. This is classically informed rave tackle given a gleaming finish - heavy in the low end and bright on top for maximum devastation in the dance. Take note too - HL003 also welcomes a new artist into the fold for the sleeve design, Nuff Gal. The Bristol-based illustrator perfectly captures the playful energy of Borai's productions, ushering in a striking new aesthetic for Higher Level.

Review: A new philosophy as time enters a radical history of our evolution. Being and nothingness in one, creatures of habit, the angels of nature, we can herald a new humanity.

DJN4 enters in homage. Optimus Yarnspinner. Edification through music bends, but does not break the untameable lost voices. This dissolution of ego, where culture exemplifies the principle of innovation through excess, the nocturnal brain sees only what it seeks.

The order of time is more than a conspiracy of the people, this enforced interlude does not mean culture's end. Our culture, music's culture, acts as a genome, a graffiti of society.

The psy, the rave, the sounds, the species, the food of the gods. Alpha Juno, Cyclon 303, mutable instruments and ideas collated, N4's modern mysticism to harness the Earth as a being of sound. This occult features an anarchism, offering us a collective immortality, allowing us, showing us, how to be more humane.

Across eight tracks, our DJ weaves a journey to the inner and outer digi sphere, a two-year search, in to steppas, out of dub, evoking legitimate synthesis and sensibility. Look beyond Zamonia. The lost Chord. An alien dreamtime. Tales of Z.

Review: Fittingly, the first release from Barcelona party crew Maricas's offshoot record label was written and produced by one of their co-founders, resident DJ ISAbella. Rich in analogue electronic sounds that hark back to techno's dim and distant past, not to mention some suitably weighty basslines inspired by Warp Records bleep-era output, it's as vibrant, exciting and interesting a debut 12" as we've come across of late. Highlights include the sub-heavy, club-ready intoxication of "Track 90", the psychedelic, breakbeat-driven heat of closing cut "Contacta", and the alien-sounding, early LFO style intoxication of EP opener "Extrema".

Review: We can think of few producers who are quite as capable of crafting timeless, emotive electronic music as John Shima - something that makes each of his releases a "must-check" for fans of far-sighted musical futurism. He's naturally in fine form on this surprise outing for Subwax's Excursions series, effortlessly moving between the emotive, melodic bliss of "Evergreen", where lilting lead lines spar with dreamy chords and a hybrid electro/deep sci-fi techno groove, the poignant, pitched-down deep electro beauty of "Moodswing", the deep space breakdowns and tactile chords of "Space Cadet", and the intergalactic electrofunk haziness of enveloping closing cut "Street Soul". Music for your head, heart and soul: don't sleep!

Review: The brothers OdD return to their self titled label after a two year hiatus with more of that refined, off-centre minimalism they do so well. "Obelisk" is an epic scraping the 12 minute mark with a tapestry of intricate beat design and spacious atmospherics - one to take the dancefloor to some intriguing places deep into the morning. "1M Pendulum" has a more linear house groove, and a plethora of subtle tweaks and wobbles rumbling away in the lower register. "Hotep" closes the B side with a spaced out groover that teeters on the edge of ambient, albeit with a nagging house groove holding everything together.

Review: When it comes to robust, far-sighted and futuristic machine music, Posthuman can usually be relied upon to deliver the goods. Here they make a now rare outing away from their I Love Acid label, offering up a must-check four-track on Lobster Theremin's nostalgia-tinted There Is Love In You offshoot. The long-serving UK duo hits the ground running with sweaty opener "Chevrolet", a weighty, bass-heavy, warehouse-ready affair featuring the distinctive vocals of Josh Caffe, before switching to mind-altering acid techno heaviness on "The Depth". Over on side B, "Jupiter Traxx" sees them eagerly join the dots between electro, breaks and hip-house, while "My House Rules" is vintage deep house taken to the outer realms of the galaxy.
