  3. I Choose You (Louie Vega dub) (8:48)
  4. I Choose You (Vega Tosca Solo Mid Tempo mix) (8:48)
Review: The 3 Winans Brothers served up their Foreign Land album, from which this single is taken, in 2014. But it could as well as be from any of the proceeding three decades. It is life-affirming gospel, soul and r&b that makes perfect fodder for a remixer like Louie Vega. The gorgeous backing vocals remind in place, as do the main male voices, but the drums are either drawn out and made all the more soulful or shorted up and energised for the club across these four superb mixes. House music doesn't come more authentic or stirring than this. 838848-01

Keep It In The Family
  1. 9th House - "Harmonic Convergence" (4:13)
  2. Ruff Stuff - "Still Dancing" (6:46)
  3. Adam Curtain - "Wonk That Arp" (5:06)
  4. Bobby Cazanova - "Big Eden" (5:13)
  5. Arthur Dudley X Retromigration - "Moody Knights" (5:13)
Review: A collaboration between Bristol's Shall Not Fade and London label/clothing line Handy here titled Keep It In The Family. SNF tapped 9th House & Berlin-based Italian Ruff Stuff for some wicked techno tracks, and it's all about the latter doing his best Aril Brikha impression on 'Still Dancing'. Representing Handy we have Bobby Cazanova serving up some bass-heavy sci-fi fantasies on the electro number 'Big Eden' and a collab between Arthur Dudley and Retromigration who serve up some smoky, late night deep house on 'Moodyknight'.

Drums #1
Drums #1 (12")
Cat: FIT 004. Rel: 22 Nov 11
  1. Part 1
  2. Part 2
Review: ** FIT REPRESS ** Naturally for a producer who prefers to remain anonymous and call themselves A Drummer From Detroit and name their debut EP Drums, both tracks here veer into dextrously percussive house territory. Amidst the dizzying, jazz influenced rattle of Shake Shakir style rhythms that characterise the A Side workout our erstwhile protagonist weaves in desperate vocal strains and overtly dramatic piano and horn stabs which only serve to increase the panic inducing pace. The flipside treatment is slightly slower in its execution, yet increases the jazz funk melodic elements which make it the less a hectic and more involving production.

Farmarama Remixes Vol 2
Cat: OTHER 137. Rel: 13 Nov 19
  1. Higher Powers (Aleksandir mix) (5:43)
  2. Michael (AMCA Low Cal dub) (7:00)
  3. Mountains & Waterfalls (Felipe Gordon The Moody remix) (6:44)
  4. Higher Powers (Aleksandir AMCA demo edit) (6:24)
Review: Long time Balearic maestros A Man Called Adam came back strong with a new album this past summer, and now the gift keeps on giving with a second series of tasteful remixes from it. Aleksandir's mix of "Higher Powers" is a beautifully gentle and melodic deep house groover. Pads drift by like zephyrs and Sally Rogers' vocals appear like illusions on the clouds. A Man Called Adam themselves then dub out "Michael" with muted acid lines and muffled vocals. Felipe Gordon then layers up balmy pads and warming chords on his remix of "Mountains & Waterfalls" and a demo edit of "Higher Powers" from Aleksandir closes things out ion glistening, heartfelt melodic house fashion.

Purple (7")
Cat: SC 7060. Rel: 16 Feb 22
  1. Purple (3:37)
  2. Purple (dub mix) (4:12)
Review: Every once in a while, a release is slung our way that charms us so deeply that we're not sure what angle approach it from. Deliberately retro, but with one foot in the cosmic, Star Creature are a Chicago-based label whose take on space disco is extra janky and electronic. AVOP's new track 'Purple' is rattlesnaking and sultry, delving into a pitch-perfect rumination of a disco sound that 70's producers could only dream of achieving. Coming to purple 7" vinyl, the track makes "Russian violet cyber grapes rain in Chicago", as asserted by the artist.

Fields & Forests 2
Cat: F&F 002. Rel: 10 Nov 14
  1. Fantasy
  2. Raw Abstractionism
  3. Torri Wowo
  4. Acoustic Cut
Review: After a successful debut release with Untitled Gear, Croatian label continues their journey through fields and forests. Still exploring the Russian Federation, only this time they hired Udacha's honcho and main protagonist A5. Record kicks off with 'Fantasy'. A dreamy kalimba piece which eventually evolves into a deep house track and could be described as a soundtrack from your latest dream while 'Raw Abstractionism' doesn't disappoint it's name. On the flip side we are introduced to the afro banger 'Torri Wowo' which feels almost like driving through safari on a truck. 'Acoustic Cut' calms things down and brings us to an end with a clear message.

Lausanna (hand-stamped 1-sided 12")
Cat: IM 011. Rel: 28 Mar 22
  1. Track 1 (6:50)
Review: 's been a while since a single-sided record hit our shelves, and for the first time in yonks we can thank Toronto house legend Abacus for breaking that spell. Following a string of killer releases on local labels like Prescription and Guidance, we're more than taken by this swirly s/s sizzler. 'Lausanna' is a track for deep house DJs of all sizes, easily bridging laid-back freshness with bassy hard-hittingness. Thanks Innermoods!

Review: Originally from Normandy but now residing in the French capital, DJ/producer Adam Boufeldja aka Adam BFD is responsible for the prolific output of self-released singles and curating his self-titled Youtube channel. His latest release is a fitting one for London based label Running Out Of Steam, with its clear UK dance music influences throughout. Whether it's the sublime coastal breaks of opening cut "I'll Be Walking" or the Shut Up And Dance styled proto-jungle breaks of "Call A Taxi" on the A side, or the emotive broken beat deep house of "No Advice" through to the understated mystery of "An Ode To La Condesa" over on the flip - this one's top!

Uprising (12")
Cat: AMF 003. Rel: 04 Mar 20
  1. Uprising (7:09)
  2. Uprising (dub) (6:51)
Review: It would be fair to say that this outing from piano-loving Sheffield sorts Adelphi Music Factory is a little bit big. And when we mean big, we mean BIG. Like, "phew, I might need a lie down after dancing to it" big. Of course, all their tunes are rushing and life affirming, but there's something particularly breathless about the blend of banged-out piano riffs, stomping gospel-house beats and big-lunged gospel vocals on "Uprising". The arrangement cleverly maximizes dancefloor impact by including all manner of builds and drops, while the flipside Dub mix only strips out a relatively limited amount of the vocal. The whole thing is a giddy blast from the past and the kind of thing we could expect people going crazy to at festivals this summer.

Javelin (12")
Cat: AMF 001. Rel: 26 Sep 18
  1. Javelin (9:26)
  2. Javelin (dub) (9:26)
Review: There's plenty of hype swirling around this short-run debut from Londoners Adelphi Music Factory, with regular radio plays and appearances in a host of top DJs' set lists resulting in insatiable demand. It helps, of course, that "Javelin" is an absolute beast. Packed with energy, the A-side version sees them generate maximum sweatiness by working cut-up gospel vocal samples atop a loopy, full-throttle, techno-tempo disco-house groove. Honestly, it's one seriously heavyweight rub that's guaranteed to get dancefloors eating out of the palm of your hand. The B-side "Dub" is, if anything, even wilder and heavier, with the little-known outfit utilizing stretched-out, delay-laden vocal lifts and restless piano stabs over ten action-packed minutes.

Adjust Your Love EP
Cat: BLR 015. Rel: 28 Aug 19
  1. Adjust Your Love (6:04)
  2. Easy Love Dub (6:22)
  3. Horizons (5:05)
Review: We can confirm that Adam "Admin" Wickens is not only a hugely talented DJ and producer, but also a thoroughly nice chap. Here he makes his bow on Better Listen with a three-tracker packed to the rafters with warmth, soul and groove. Check first A-side "Adjust Your Love", a sample-fired workout that effortlessly joins the dots between disco, deep house and star-kissed jazz-funk, before turning your attention to the chopped-and-screwed samples, toasty sub-bass, languid beats and echoing piano snippets of "Easy Love Dub". The Bristol-based producer rounds things off in fine style via "Horizons", a slightly bouncier house cut that makes great use of some bluesy piano samples and another stoned, glassy-eyed bassline.

  2. Pas Une Cacahuete (6:14)
  3. Reverse Shikata (5:29)
  4. Common Dissectors (6:55)
Review: Swiss producer Agnes has been a stalwart of the minimal sound since the mid noughties, although he's kept a fairly low profile in recent years. You can imagine how stoked we were to see a new release from him this week which is out on UK label Hudd Trax. He's no stranger to the label, and the Now Darts The Spirit EP is another worthy addition to the discography. From the stuttered micro house of 'Poudre Aux Bleus", to the evocative late night mood music of "Pas Une Cacahuete" and the sensuous slo-mo deepness of "Common Dissectors" on the flip - its classic Agnes all the way.

Robot Romance (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: AGR 002. Rel: 29 Nov 21
  1. Electric Nostalgia (7:17)
  2. Robot Romance (7:11)
  3. Fallin' (Transition mix) (7:09)
Review: David Agrella returns on his newly-minted Agrellomatica Records with three fresh interpretations of Robot Romance. Agrella is a DJ, producer and recording artist with a growing reputation as a versatile selector. Showcasing his musical inspirations across genres via his Agrellomatica slot on London radio station Bloop, the first release on his recently launched eponymous imprint gained support from artists including Moxie, Korea Town Acid and Jane Fitz, alongside high praise from the likes of Ransom Note, Vinyl Factory and Bolting Bits. Electric Nostalgia is an utterly addictive track that draws you in right from the start, as swirling synths and subby pads float above crisp breaks. Robot Romance slowly intensifies with fluttering chords that feel weightless, as the even kick drums meet an elastic bassline - providing a propulsive gem. Agrella's Transition Mix of Fallin', which closes the E.P comes with pummeling drums and muscular acidic melodies.

Transition EP (B-STOCK) (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: AGR 001 (B-STOCK).
  1. Transition
  2. Transition (Floor mix)
  3. Third Floor
  4. The Puppets Are Back
Review: ***B-STOCK: Torn seam & creased corners on outer sleeve, otherwise in excellent condition***

David Agrella has been active in the scene for a long time, but his releases have been scattered and sought out by those with their fingers truly on the pulse. Now though, he's minting his own Agrellomatica label with this accomplished EP, which leads in with the dynamic sci-fi swing of 'Transition'. The original mix has enough chops for the club, but the 'Floor mix' makes things crystal clear with a sizzling electro-mnml drive to propel the trippy synths forwards. 'Third Floor' takes things even more linear, locking on to a steady 4/4 and tweaking out some trance-tinted patterns for deep immersion. 'The Puppets Are Back' completes the set with a dreamy excursion through broken beat and minimal pastures for those who enjoy the likes of Binh and Nicolas Lutz.

Cat: MIDA 02. Rel: 13 Apr 21
  1. Signal (5:46)
  2. Swim (5:46)
  3. Lock (3:27)
Review: Tallin's MIDA already got those in the know talking with its first EP, and now they come through with more interesting sounds. Ajukaja & Ats is a production duo form the same city and they have a swirling, synth heavy sound that traps your head amongst the stars. The drum breaks on 'Signal' are deft, sleeping you afloat next to a tight bass riff and those well sequenced synths. 'Swim' is all squelchy sounds, bright daubs and alien lifeforms over more busted beats and 'Lock' heads off on a cosmic adventure with jittery modulations, distorted and crunchy drums and smeared pads that bring a sense of serenity.

  3. Joey Negro Presents The Sunburst Band - "Everyday" (JN Disco Re-Bump remix) (7:28)
  4. Art Of Tones - "Flower Child" (feat Anduze) (7:01)
Review: Like its numerous predecessors, 16th edition of Z Records' long running "Attack The Dancefloor" series is packed to the rafters with tried and tested dancefloor treats, most of which have never appeared on vinyl before. First up, Saison tackles Akabu's 2001 classic "Ride The Storm", turning it into a deep, bouncy and rubbery chunk of lilting, string-drenched house goodness, before Dr Packer delivers a subtly tooled-up take on The Love Symphony Orchestra's grandiose and sexually-charged 1978 disco classic "Let Me Be Your Fantasy". Label head honcho Joey Negro provides a superb deep disco rework of one of his own productions, the Sunburst Band's 2004 summer sing-along "Everyday", while Art of Tones' "Flower Child" is a flash-fried, disco-funk romp laden with superb lead vocals from Anduze.

Review: Atlanta house head Kai Alce is the centre-point of his local scene, but also a revered artist worldwide. His NDATL label is a gold standard when it comes to deeper grooves and now it reissues a remastered version of his The Floating EP. They cuddly depths of 'Feeding' immediately sink you in and 'Decay' then showcases Kai's unique drum programming with a real sense of skip and funk. The title tune has percussion draped organically over lush keys and soulful vox and 'KZRC Time Dub1' is another fine fusion of jazzy keys and louche beats.

Review: Fittingly for how bewitching his brand of electro / deep house is, Aleqs Notal is right at home and more when he releases new music on a label known as 'Forbidden Dance'. His music truly does sound 'forbidden'; these four deep house incantations are more than enchanting, sounding like dreamy, streetwise dark arts rituals. Swaying through classic analog drum sounds and buzzing trance lines, this is a must-have chillout electro cuts for your racks.

  8. David Swatten - "Wave Energy" (John Beltran remix) (5:32)
Review: Since launching in 2018, Aaron Andrew's Chubby label has become a trusted - if frustratingly irregular - source of high-quality deep house. Their latest missive, the Aussie imprint's first release since the autumn, is their most expansive yet, with four fresh cuts (each with an accompanying remix) stretched across two slabs of wax. Aleqs Notal goes ultra-deep on immersive and hypnotic opener 'Planetary Insanity', which is subsequently given an equally spacey revision courtesy of Life Recorder. Cheerier and breezier deep house warmth comes courtesy of Jose Rico's 'Agonias' and Leonids slightly darker revision, while Nail's squelchy, early morning take on Ewan Jansen's bubbly 'Basillica' is one of the EP's standout moments. Arguably best of all though is John Beltran's gorgeous revision of David Swatten's brilliantly bittersweet 'Wave Energy'.
