Review: John Morales is pretty universally credited with inventing the 12" when he decided he needed more run time for his remixes than could be found on a small 7" 45rpm. Those remixes were often done on the studio floor when he would cut up and splice analogue tape to insert new breaks and extended instrumentals. He remains as good as anyone at that and these new versions of Curtis Harrison's 'I Want Your Lovin' and 'I Want You All Tonight' show why. They are steamy and loved-up disco gems that have everything needed to set the floor alight- big vocals, big drums, lush synths.

Review: Shockingly, it's been almost three years since we last heard new material from Chaos in the CBD aka London-based Kiwi brothers Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales. This two-tracker is not only well overdue, but also as quietly impressive as you'd expect. Title track and A-side 'Sirena Deep' lives up to its name, offering a subtly summery shuffle through lightly dubbed-out, organ-rich deep house goodness complete with an expressive and tasteful flute solo from fellow New Zealander Nathan Haines. Review: Spanish label MATE host a four track, two artist 12" that stretches across the Atlantic to take in top house music talents from both sides. The Belgian duo Chasse follow their releases on Robsoul and Exploited take on the A-side, with 'Viola' proving a chunky but emotive offering held together by rhythmic sax stabs and suspended strings and 'Deep Link' a jazzier affair, the sax let properly loose as a plaintive piano loops atmospherically. The prolific Detroit producer Javonntte, a regular on the label, offers up the fantastic Moog improv wigout of 'Sunday Brunch Cocktail', registering some impressively original high frequency operations. Review: Groovin Italy landed a monumental reissue for the label with C'hantal's 'The Realm'. Originally released way back in 1990 on the dance and early Brooklyn based Powertraxx records. Staying true to the original release, it offers the 'Love In D Minor' mix but does one better in tucking in the Acapella version to the A-side so the B-side 2 versions have a little more room to breathe. The added bonus has to be putting on the more rare "Wild Club mix' to the party along with the original 'Rave Mix'. All and all, a very packed reissue of some of the best versions of the track, all on one record. This might just hold the number one spot for best techno reissue so far of 2024.

We're glad to hear some new music from the long time Kompakt legend and co-founder and once again it's not what you would expect. 'Allein' is a downbeat piece with oriental melodies and gently plucked strings over warm bass. It's not for the club, that is for sure, but the flip side version 'Allein In Italien' sure is. This one is a chugging and brit Italo disco number with retro 80s synth sounds and plenty of joyous grooves.

Review: Quentin Sinclair Foster is a cult South African producer who mastered the art of downtempo and deep house across a series of vital cuts. Now, the Soundbath label has got together a first ever vinyl pressing and reissue of them which is sure to help them become classics all over again. That will certify be true of the one, Tsidi's 'Contagious' (Transcendal dub remix), which has everything required to become an anthem - the smooth female vocal, soft focus synths and subtle old school bass. Add in four other equally lush and romantic house sound and you have a real doozy.

Review: After he made such an impact with his debut EP in 2018, Compton-based hip-house hero Channel Tres made good on his burgeoning reputation with his second release the year after. Black Moses might nod to Isaac Hayes, but there's nothing throwback about the sound as Tres rides all kinds of sparkling fresh electronic beats with a focus on deep house. He was also able to confirm his burgeoning reputation in the scene with a notable guest spot from JPEGMAFIA on the low slung title track. There's just so much swag to this record, it's going to make you and everyone in a square mile get loose, wherever you drop it.

Review: Chris Carrier is a long-time part of the underground. The Frenchman has released on a fine array of labels and served up plenty of ever-evolving sounds. For this one he digs into electro, tech, house and minimal starting with the praying loops and intergalactic turbulence of 'The Infinity Gate.' It's a noisy and intense one for the peak of the night while 'The Way To The Stars' is a more smooth grooving tune with nimble drums and bass. 'The Roaming' then rides on a bumping drum and bass comb that is run through with sleek and searching synth rays and last of all 'Spacevax' offers a clean and crisp electro-tinged beat on which to vibe while the sci-fi chords rain down from above with real elegance.

Review: Costin RP is, to us at least, one of the newer names to emerged from the ever fruitful Romanian scene. Of course he makes minimal for the late night hours, but his own take on it has a little sense of fun and playfulness as evidenced by this new EP on BPLR. 'About Us opens up with a drunken sense of off-balance rhythm and shiny synth leads that never stop evolving. Sit then remixes and brings more defined drum funk to his version while 'Bad Waters' shuts down with some raved-up synth stabs and tripped lines that rise up and down through the mix in nice loose fashion.

Review: The Raw Materials label out of Italy does what it says on the tin note more here with a fine collection of direct-to-dance floor house sounds from various artists. The second volume of the label's Hand Crafted Club Tools Vol 2 EP starts with Manuold's old school, piano-laced jacker 'Acqua Light' before Curl's loose and percussive teaser 'Good Vibration' swells the heart. There are twisted bassines goodness in LSZ's 'Dontfightyourmama' and the variation keeps coming on the flip where DJ Soch goes deep and dreamy on 'Shuttle Of Dream' and Davide Del Vecchio taps into more Italo house dreamscapes on 'Less Is More.' DJ Rou slows things down to a beatdown crawl on heavy closer 'Cut Street.'

Review: Chicago's utmost finest Daniel Chavez brings his four latest house cuts to the East Coast via Brooklyn's Deep Club label. The 'Seasons' EP harks back to Chavez' formative days as a prime pusher in the former city's golden era of deep and dubby house, which initially began with him cycling around its South Side with a bag full of records and a small PA system strapped to his back. This bright spark of autonomy and intuition led to residencies at Smartbar and Gramaphone, which went hand-in-hand with a budding production career, which would soon blossom into a master-craftsmanship behind the controls. Now well into said career, these tracks were designed and refined over the course of a year to meet the strict specifications of his trusty Jewel soundsystem. All knocky smokers of top clarity, fidget and depth - a hard balance to strike.

Review: The artwork for this new 12" from the System 108 label is eccentric enough to make you want to check out the music even if you don't know the artists. It's the sort of cover that suggests the music will be left of centre and quirky and that it is. 'Sao Januario' is a deep and lazy groove with sunny chords and jazzy keys that take you to the global south. 'Sunny Villa On A Distant Planet' is a twisted disco cut with house leaning drums and big cowbells under intergalactic synth lines. 'Rolando Nascer Do Sol' then rides a crisp electro breakout to keep you on your toes and 'OWL WCS' slows down for a cuddly back-to-mine style closer.

Review: It is now 13 releases deep and each and every time a new one arrives, Private Recording System's music sells out. This one comes from returning label regular, 2 Bit Crew member and Safe Radio associate CK who again cooks up a future fusion of house, tech and minimal. 'Speedstick' is first out of the blocks and is an intergalactic tech trip with hurried drums and silvery hi-hats and snares riding the beats. '99 Basstones' then gets more tribal and stripped back with compelling kicks and bass bringing plenty of bounce and 'Faker' shuts down on something of a funky, loopy techno tip.

Review: This beautiful EP, 'Sunset Thoughts', finally makes its way to vinyl after a digital release back in October. Cosmonection is a fast-rising Frenchman who makes an awful lot of music and is sure to blow up fully in 2024, and for this one, he works with fellow French artists and singer Soren Lyann. 'Bulles' establishes a lovely vibe with its organic chords and colourful little samples over a slick groove, then '"Wakin' Up With You' brings acoustic guitar and indie vocals over a hurried house groove. There is plenty more sun and subtle hints of acoustic guitar in 'Solar' and 'Ballad' shuts down another mix of acoustic strings, ad-libbed vocals and fresh beats.
