Review: D:fferent Place started life back in 2019 and key a low profile and has done the same ever since. We still are not sure who or what is behind these releases but they keep coming at an unhurried rate but always with great style. This sixth offering is another club-ready mix of house, tech and minimal starting with the dry, stiff beats of 'Mr Science' before bringing more loose feels and broken beats to the deft 'Funkadelic.' 'U Got Me UP' is pure backroom house tackle with dubby undercurrents and last of all is the bumping, acid laced 'Analog Tales' for a nice mid tempo workout.

Review: Cabinet is one of those labels that has been turning out the tuned for years and the quality level somehow never seems to dip. This latest 12" opens up with a Daniel Paul edit of Da Kick Squad's 'Do This Gig' which is slick tech with hints of Melchior's smooth sound design. Daniel Paul & DJ Trike' 'Rollo' (Atitlan version) is another perfect example of nailing a sweet and hypnotic house loop and just letting it run for days. Sadan's 'Creamster Shake'is a more trippy and lithe affair with some playful melodies and Flashbaxx's 'Gold' is a deep, late night and candle-lit sound for romantic and intimate spaces.

Review: Operative since the early 1990s, Dan Piu is one of Switzerland's most storied deep house and futurist techno producers. His regular EPs are rarely less than excellent, and even those that slip under the radar tend to be solid if not spectacular. The good news is that Piu is in prize form on this Spacebased Recordings released five-tracker. Check first sumptuous, Needs (Not Wants)-influenced deep house number 'Times' - a masterclass in mood and melody - before admiring the bleeping, intergalactic excellence of spacey deep house gem 'Dorsey'. He opts for a more energetic, warehouse-ready early 90s house/techno sound on 'Monitor Body Process 101', doffs a cap to stargazing Motor City techno on 'Flying Dolphins', and showcases a spoken word vocal from Roger Versey on the atmospheric, turn-of-the-90s Nu Groove style brilliance of 'Another Day'.

Review: Detroit Stories is, first and foremost, the name of a recent social experiment in Motor City, USA. Largely broadcast on social media like Instagram, it consists of interviews with OG residents and immigrants from way back - the ones who've lived through the city's many ups and downs - we hear got stories of good times, hard work, and opportunities, but also struggles, violence, and social upheavals, all of which helped shaped Detroit's rise and slow fall. Secondly but not least, 'Detroit Stories' is also the name of Daughters And Sons' (Luca Fronza's) latest EP, which plunges the sampleable depths of these interviews to effuse a deep and inexorable sense of the city's cultural significance, not only as the heartland of Fordism (the dominant ideology in whose shadow even humble music reviewers like ourselves live), but also the place, where, without coincidence, techno originated. Coming with a remix by Prins Thomas, star track 'Gipsy' is especially well-suited to the city's obverse mood, combining the glitz of industrial opportunism, a Detroit-endemic Christian religiosity, and a nomadic core theme, all via ploddingly militant beats and a twinging lead synth whistle.

Review: American in Frankfurt George Davis dropped the first instalment of the Ona EP on Kickin Up Dust earlier in 2023, and that release turned heads thanks to the plush, soulful strain of house contained within and a surest remix from Kai Alce. Now Davis is back with a second volume which builds on the strength of that release with further demonstrations of what house music needs more than ever - a strong sense of the soulful roots of the genre and a sense of joy which just can't be held down. 'Bumpa' is perhaps the best example of this vibe, riding a crooked groove which almost tips over into broken beat territory without losing that four-to-the-floor thump.

Review: Twilight is the latest piece by long time DJ, producer and remixer, Dominic Dawson. The Japanese label Flower, has released this single to 7" complete with a remix for the second side. The title track is a catchy and funky house track that while the remix is a bit more Balearic and beachy. Both versions have their place in any house setlist and will set the tone for any eclectic DJ set. With the DJing background Dominic has, he is a great guide to setting the mood with music. Like the title artwork suggests, this is perfect music to watch the sun go down to.

Review: Alex Attias welcomes Michigan natives Julian De'Angelo and Specter from Chicago to Visions Recordings, with the long-serving Swiss producer promising "deep music to dance to". De'Angelo goes solo on A-side cut 'Tango', an excellent 11-minute workout rich in addictive piano refrains, heady synth-string stabs, deep sub-bass and loose, languid, ever-shifting drum machine beats. Specter joins the fun on similarly epic flip-side 'Drunken Noodles', with the pair jamming away on electric piano before introducing slipped hip-hop-goes-house machine drums, trippy electronics, spacey chords and warming bass. It's deep house, but not as we know it, and that's no bad thing.

Review: Deetron's been turning out serene house and techno for many a year but he changes tact here and presents Soulmate on Ilian Tape. It's an EP with a wide array of influences and kicks off with 'Path' which is bright, melodic, electric house music with cow bells galore. 'Zoom' is tightly coiled, loopy, dusty, turbocharged tackle with a warming intensity and then 'Screen' pairs more balmy and blissed-out chords with hurried beats and layers of FX and percussion. Last of all is the best of the lot - 'Blade'. It's a tribal, percussive cut that cannot fail to sweep you off your feet.

Review: House music doesn't get much more storied and authentic than that served up by the iconic New Jersey label Nu Groove. It very much shaped the clary sound of the 90s and still has fans excited today whenever reissues drop. This is not that, however, and is in fact a new set of recent cuts from veteran Swiss producer Deetron and underground mainstay Bruise. The sounds are inspired by the soulful techno and house that emerged in the Mid West and build on solid drums with silky loops that look to the future. 'AM_909' in particular is a lush and warm cut of epic proportions.

Review: Cyphon Recordings' slim but rapidly expanding catalogue is full of quality cuts from both rising stars and established artists. Their latest EP - another must-check release - comes from someone who comfortably sits in the second camp: long-serving British techno, ambient and IDM futurist Kirk Degiorgio. As usual, Degiorgio has delivered some effortlessly melodious, emotive and immersive fare. For proof, check 'All About You', where sparkling synth-pop melodies, layered electronics and dreamy pads rise above a groove inspired by Motor City futurism and Latin rhythms. That Latin influence comes to the fore on the gorgeous, percussive and picturesque techno bliss of 'Cidad Do Futuro', while 'Frayed Edge' is a deep and melody-rich slab of electro excellence.

Review: Minimal heads will be chuffed to see that the third volume of the Dis Chronicles series has now arrived on Repeat. It is another stylish collection of Grant Dell beats starting with a cut as Chicago Transit Authority. 'Emotive' is a perfect blend of jazzy keys and skipping garage drums with deep house vibes and swirling pads to add extra heat. On the flipside, Dell links with Jay Tripwire for 'Cosmic Kebab' which leans more into tech house territory but as the title suggests has nice starry synth work and to close out, Dell goes it alone on 'Rhythmic Science' which looks you into his precise beat work and diffuse late night chords.

Review: Kerri Chandler has once again dipped into the vaults of his long-running Kaoz Theory label and picked out two previously digital-only gems deserving of a belated vinyl debut. On side A you'll find Demuir's soulful and uplifting 2020 jam 'Lusting U', a rolling chunk of semi-organic house warmth featuring superb lead vocals from British vocalist Bluey Robinson. Over on side B, it's all about DJ Sneak's 'Judy Russell', a killer cut first featured on his Movin' Parts EP three years ago. A bit deeper, woozier and more loose-limbed than some of his more muscular and forthright workouts, it sees the veteran producer wrap synthesized vocalisations and sunny chords around a chunky bassline and swinging house beats that sound like they could have come straight out of Kenny Dope's MPC.

Review: Robsoul Recordings has continue on the rich tradition of superb France deep hose for many years after the first wave of artists and labels came and went. This third edition of its Classic Sampler series is another joyous one that opens up with the jazzy loops and soul-drenched house grooves of Demuir's 'From Paris To Strasbourg'. Vincent Caira's 'Back Again' is more solid and raw but no less heartfelt then Mo'Funk & Roland Clark cut lose with an unabashed piano sound on 'Bring Together' that will get hands in the air. Three timeless tracks that really tap into the original spirit of house music.

Review: Rob Mello and Lil' Mark are known collective as the Detox Twins and between them they must easily have over half a century's experience in the underground. They bring all that to this new package of four mixes of 'In My Soul' on the Finger Prince label. Up first is 'Rob's No Ears Mix' with its scruffy drums and lovely breaks overlaid with pulsing melodies. 'No Ears Detox Your Soul' brings some upright garage skip and future funk and 'Lil' Mark's Detox Retox' keeps that free flowing rhythm going with plenty of irresistible synth hooks. 'Lil' Mark's M5 Mix' closes out with a fleshy bassline and tightly coiled drums.

Review: See-Saw records out of the Netherlands were a well-respected label very early in the rave era. Starting way back in 1991, the label was known for being one of the first rave labels in the area but also respected for their variety of styles like house, techno, hardcore and trance music. Their third record and one of their most desired The Jewel EP by Diamonds & Pearls aka Gijs Vroom, is getting a welcomed reissue on the Late Night Burners label. This reissue is a mirror to the original that features the heavy piano house monster 'What You Do To Me', the Euro house gem 'What You Do To Disco' and the Chicago influenced 'Rockin' Your World'. We can't say enough great things about the beautifully mellow ambient house track 'Perspective' which perfectly captures the amazing chill out sound of the time. A very worthy and welcomed reissue from beginnings of of rave post the New Beat era in the Netherlands.

Review: Brooklyn's toucan sounds has snapped up the signature of Dee Diggs for her long-awaited debut single and it does not disappoint. 'Toss It' is, like the artist herself, inspired by the Black, queer roots of house music and it come with lashings of disco energy, smoky vocals and glossy chords as well as a catchy pop riff that emplores you to set yourself free. A fine remix comes from Detroit's Ladymonix who makes things dark, sweaty and steamy and last of all is a Matt FX Glitz N Glam mix to make this a brilliant package.

Review: If you have heard any All Day I Dream releases you will know what to expect, and yet still the label keeps on turning them out and still they keep us interested because it is such a lovely and escapist sound. Dim Kelly is next up to offer their own spin on it and do so with four fantastic cuts. 'Pianologic' is a piano-laced jam with wonky rhythms and warming pads that bring plenty of playfulness. 'Preach The World' (with Stereoclip) settles into a more smooth groove with subtler melodies and 'The Stream' then sinks into a more heads-down groove with darker basslines. Review: First released way back in 1994 on Kevin Saunderson's KMS label, Dionne Warren's Brian Hall-produced deep house gem 'Feel Da Rain' gets a new lease of life thanks to Windsor, Ontario imprint Collective Rhythm Network (CRN). While the original 12" also featured rubs from Alton Miller and Stacey Pullen, it's D'Pac Patel's dub . a warm, rolling, US garage influenced deep house workout rich in tactile organ stabs, superb grooves and short samples of Warren's vocals - that has become the most sought-after version. Review: Discotecas keep it catchy with another firey missive that delves deep into disco, funk and Afro. 'Heavy Dub' opens up with loose-limbed grooves that come with horn stabs and plenty of percussion, then 'LFA' gets a little deeper. Here the drums stay low and the mood is more menacing. The groove is detailed with just as many hots and toms, with diffuse chord stabs adding some warming soul and hints of Moodymann cool. As the grover unfolds it gets ever more funky and party starting with some great spoken words finishing it in style.

Review: The cultured Satya label is back with more tasteful and tasty deep hose soundscapes, this time from Distilled Noise who brings a future feel to the grooves. The opener 'Drained' is a slick cut with tech percussion and cosmic melodies floating up top. 'Mind Eraser' then ups the pace but keeps things warm and heady with nice swirling pads. 'Retreat' is another silky smooth sound with warped, muted, smeared pads adding neon colour to the beats. Review: Divine Discs follows up its first foray into the vinyl world with a second and equally great volume in its Altered Disco series. Things get off to a joyous start with 'Dance' which is all big choruses, hip-swinging claps and big piano chords. It cannot fail to elevate any party while 'Feel' is one that goes deeper on the emotions with a stirring choir delivering uplifting vocals next to funky guitar riffs. It has a hint of gospel goodness to it while the b-side is given over to 'Never Turn Back' (Jaegerossa remix) which is a big stomping disco jam with yet more happy chord work.

Review: DJ Jauche's still excellent album 'Let Me Dance' gets picked apart and remixed here by some fine names, and the package also includes his own original 'Turn Up The Love.' It's a shimmering and steamy late night house crawler with loved up vocals. It comes as a dub by Glenn Davis which brings a little more energy but still has plenty dusty drums, while 'Love Muzik' (Matthias Vogt remix) is another languid groove enriched with scintillant synths that sine bright. 'Shake It' gets things underway with warm chords and cosmic synth work over 90s house beats. 'Sound Of One' offers lung-busting diva vocals and great piano work and 'Step Into My Life' then sinks into a more late night and seductive sound with a jazzy melodic overtone and laid-back beats. Review: Nu Groove is one of those labels that everyone who knows recognises as having played a key part in the early house movement. Based out of the New York scene on the East Coast it had a distinctive 90s deep house sound which DJ Steaw now taps into but with his own twist. His grooves are jacked up and analogue, densely packed but high on warmth and soul. 'Take It There' is a prickly opener and 'Seascape' then brings some acid. 'Close To U' has a more low-slung groove that is peppered with raw claps and last of all, 'Exotica' brings some cosmic synth work to crisp, funked-up and electro-tinged rhythms.

Review: Two house music institutions come together here as DJ Steaw lands on the Kaoz Theory label run by Kerri Chandler. DJ Tommy Starck is the man in charge and he opens with big, filtered disco-house loops that pack an emotional punch. 'Disco' then hist harder than Deontay Wilder with its raw, slamming kicks and loopy synths echoing the early work of DJ Sneak. The flip side is given over then 'Yesterday,' a deeper cut with warm pads and muffled vocal cries that eventually get taken over by some wild sine waves.

Review: DJ Vandel has been away for far too long if you ask us, so we were glad when this fresh new platter dropped onto our shelves. It was recorded in his native Medellin and is an EP that runs a gamut of hose styles, always with plenty of real and raw emotions coming to the fore. None of these tunes are overproduced or too polished - they're rough around the edges, lived in, perfectly imperfect. 'Ridin' Rainbows' is a dusty bumper to start, then 'Dancing On' brings jumbled drum sounds and nicely knackered kicks. There are subtle rays of hope in the chord work of 'Stuck In The Middle' and two flip side joints explored dubby depths and heady rollers.

Dreamdreamr's emotive 'Zone 4 Booty Call' kicks off the A-side; it's a track that effortlessly fuses elements of deep house, trance, and r&'b, setting the the tone perfectly for an EP not bound by the borders of any genre. The titular 'Body Move' by SY is up next; a no-nonsense house chugger with flourishes of Italian 90s progressive and acid - a perfect modern interpretation of a foundational strand of club music. The A-side wraps up with one of 2023's most exciting prospects Papa Nugs and the vocoder infused, percussive, twisted jam 'Loosey Goosey'. The flip picks up right where the A-side left off with Elfenberg's 'Solarplexus', a cosmic, evolving and psychedelic interpretation of house. After, UK mainstay Absolute offers a 'Devastating Rhythm', a peak time techno floor filler that sounds like a Frankenstein mix of seminal imprints Dance Mania & D'jax-Up-Beats' output - proper gear. Review: This is the fourth compilation installment in Peace Symphonies' series that features multiple artists they are working with. Since starting up two years ago, this Moscow label is fast becoming one of the top avenues for house music in the country. DSF offers us 'Yes, Of Course' and 'Zorbas' for the A-side. The first one is a melodic builder that is equally beautiful as it is driving, giving us some soft trance vibes. The latter is a grooving techno jam that is spacey and ideal for stargazing on the dancefloor. For the second side, 'Ashwaganda' by Ventt & Keparys has a more tribal and African flavor to it. The EP closes out with the pair doing a fast-paced tech house gem in 'Saltwater', tinged with some superlative Balearic sounds.

Review: DVDE is an alias that reminds us of the TV wind-up merchant Phonejacker, and there sure is plenty of jack to the beast cooked up by this emerging artist. Their Ultralucid Paris EP is an old school house workout that starts with the acid-laced title track with its early Chicago drums and dark vocals. 'Good Morning England' then winds up the energy levels with more wonky synths and brain-frying acid lines and then the EP closes with flip-side jam 'Dramacid' featuring the one and only San Proper. It's an uneven and sleazy house cut with crunchy drums and San's vocals and funky guitar riffs bringing to life the prickly 303s.

Review: Less so an 'artist' and more the recorded memory of a late night radio show, the Collective Rhythm Network was the late 1990s brainchild of Geoff Adamson and Marc-Andrew Bird, hijacking the 103.7 FM airwave in St. Catherines, Canada. After gaining some local traction, Adamson and Bird did indeed continue the name as their own production and DJ alias, going on to play at many a party - and recently, to establish an eponymous record label. The 'Monday Night' series charts some of their favourite cuts to play on the radio and deploy behind the booth on a monday; this incarnation hears swelling, airy numbers from DJ Slugo, Chris Shivers and Infiltrate. Don't sleep.

Review: Welcome to Nila's Quest, a brand new label that starts as all good day's should, with a healthy serving of breakfast. It's an Argentina Breakfast, to be precise, and the first of what we can only assume will be a series of releases under this title. Jovit is first out of the blocks with the cosmic and crunchy tech house of 'Gamma Goblin' while Ian Puchetti then gets all blissed out and beach with his Ibiza tinged deep house cut 'Dreams'. There is a charming sense of 80s synth nostalgia to the snappy beats of Bruno & TOBI's 'Te Quiero' then Dual Sense's 'Morning Driver' closes out with a perfect soundtrack to late night driving.
