808's & Drunken States
808's & Drunken States (12'' vinyl test pressing)
Cat: ALB 008TP.
Review: It's been a while since the Albion stable graced our platters, but they're back in style with more of that on-point house music voodoo for the heat of the night. This single is a vessel for the various sides of Tommi Vicari Jr, who rolls out his Czevski alias to deliver a bruising remix of "57 Hertz" by 76-79. It's a reverb-soaked, dubbed out affair with a rock solid rhythm section and plenty of trippy FX tweaking on top. On the flip it's a different story with a similar feeling as we get the straight up Tommi Vicari Jr material in the shape of two killer tracks crafted for transcendental moments of dancefloor hypnosis.

Affie & Leila Yusuf - "Dublovr" (9:37)
Zobol - "Sense The Consensus" (7:22)
Acidulant - "The View Of Her Shade" (4:50)
Type-303 - "Knowhere" (6:25)
Review: While it's difficult to second-guess what Placid will select for each volume of his We're Going Deep label's compilation-style EPs, you can guarantee that it will be timeless-sounding, exquisitely produced, and most likely have some link to deep house, electro, acid or sci-fi techno. All of those boxes are ticked and then some on volume eight, which skips between melodious, acid-flecked dancefloor wooziness (Affie and Leila Yusuf's 'Dublvr'), warming sunrise-ready electro bliss (Zobol's 'Sense The Consensus'), ultra-deep, eyes-closed acid electro (Acidulant's 'The View of Her Shade') and IDM-tinged, intergalactic and dramatically pitched-down proto-jungle (Type-303's exceptional 'Knowhere'). Like its predecessors, this EP is nothing less than essential.

Mario Bianco - "Gwada" (8:47)

Roe Deers - "Colorita" (5:15)
Radial Gaze - "Cognate Unika" (5:49)
A-Tweed & Oltrefuturo - "Fyah" (5:40)
Review: Cult Edits are specialists in pushing a certain kind of heater, working in a mode landing something between edit and original. Six producers - Mario Bianco, Tomoo Hata, Roe Deers, Radial Gaze, A Tweed and Oltrefuturo - lay down a blend of sampledelic, ecstatic, multi-tempo'd tribal moods. Channelling everything from chic Tulum rituals to the brutalism of Eastern-European underground clubs, and rounded off by doses of Italian rasta and Japanese re-imagining of Hungarian folk song, all come to the label's exquisite brand of mandala-esque vinyl.

Blak 'N' Orange - "Feeling Real Good" (6:13)
Black Chunes - "Don't Hold Back!" (7:42)
Black Chunes - "Feel The Flow" (5:55)
The Deep Music Agenda - "That Crazy Thing" (6:03)
Review: We always love to hear from the Club Unite label because if nothing else it has our favourite catalogue numbering system of any label out there. The tunes are of course class too - old school house with a heavy Chicago influence. This various artists selection starts with the taught bass and spangled synths of Blak 'N' Orange's 'Feeling Real Good.' Black Chunes gets more raw and off kilter with the organ claps and clipped vocal cries of 'Don't Hold Back!' and then up the party with the piano bounce of 'Feel The Flow' complete with smooth and seductive vocal coos. Last of all, The Deep Music Agenda brings some US garage swing to 'That Crazy Thing'.

Kulture Galerie Volume Two
Cat: KGV 002. Rel: 21 Dec 23
Bohm - "Tactical Options!" (5:31)
Metropolitan Soul Museum - "Negative Mouth" (6:13)
John Beltran - "Canarias" (6:57)
Nathan Kofi & RDS - "Bankastraat" (3:22)
Tramic - "Lanterns" (4:14)
Review: Kulture Galerie has got off to a superb start with a release that got the attention of big names such as Laurent Garnier, Midland and Vladimir Ivkovic. The pressure is on, in that case, to follow that up with a second release that makes just as much impact and the label passes the test with flying colours with a various artists' collection featuring some big names. Chief amongst them are Detroit don John Beltran with his scintillating hi-tek soul workout 'Canarias', and Bohm with the densely woven synth layers and dusty drum programming over the gorgeous 'Tactical Options!' Add in the more hard edge drums of 'Metropolitan Soul Museum's 'Negative Mouth', the melodic elegance of 'Bankastraat' and the acid madness of Tramic's 'Lanterns' and you have a vital 12".

File Under Balearic Gabba
Caramel 3000 - "Super Rapido" (SIRS cut) (9:30)
Sergio Messina & The Four Twenties - "Sometimes Remember" (Calm's Mellow Mellow Acid dub) (5:50)
Pedro Bertho - "Tornei" (feat Mariana Gehring - Feel Fly Estatico Danzante remix) (7:21)
My Friend Dario - "Acid Mosquito In A Summer Night" (DJ Spun It's Rong remix) (9:21)
Review: Don't let the playful, tongue-in-cheek title put you off; this EP does not contain 'Balearic gabba', should such a thing exist, but rather a quartet of largely dancefloor focused remixes of delightful downtempo cuts from the Hell Yeah! Recordings catalogue. SIRS steps up first to deliver a chugging, Italo-disco-goes-Balearic re-make of Carmel 3000's 'Super Rapido', before we're treated to one of Calm's TB-303-laden 'mellow acid' dubs, this time of Sergio Messina & The Four Twenties' gorgeous, soft and sun-soaked 'Sometimes Remember'. Over on side B, Feel Fly delivers a soft-focus Balearic deep house take on Pedro Bertho and Mariana Gehring's 'Tornei', while DJ Spun's revision of My Friend Dario's 'Acid Mosquito in a Summer Night' is a twisted, genuinely psychedelic dub disco excursion.

The 1987 EP
Cat: SS 012. Rel: 21 Aug 01
Leon Carson - "China Trax" (8:32)
Theo Parrish - "Insane Asylum" (9:57)
Review: Oh yes, we love it when Theo represses some of his most sought after tracks and this one is particularly well-timed. Leron Carson is still an unknown figure, a kid who used to make viciously raw and futuristic techno tracks in the late 1980's! "China Trax", alongside the rest of his tracks on a different Sound Signature double 12", is totally ahead of its time and if it was truly made in 1987 then it is nothing short of amazing. Of course, it's not just the year it was made in that's interesting but also the fact that it's music without an age, able to be appreciated by any generation of techno freaks. Theo's own "Insane Asylum" on the flipside is also pretty monumental; rigged beats, off-kilter grooves and that familiar spontaneity so heavily associated to the label.

Cat: KT 030V. Rel: 10 Oct 23
You Are In My System (extended club mix) (5:51)
You Are In My System (DQ dub) (5:36)
Review: Man like Kerri Chandler is very much breaking the mold by still being right up there as one of the best in the game despite having had such a long career already. His 'You're In My System' came initially back in 1982 then got some remixes from Dance Quin in Ibadan in 2019 and now the original extended club mix and one of those Quin dubs get pressed up to a vital white vinyl 12" on Kaoz Theory. The A-side sounds as good as ever - heartfelt and vocal laced deep house with punchy kicks and rich pianos. The dub is no less vital with florid string samples and nice weighty grooves.

Reelsoul, Tasha LaRae & DJ Spen - "Rock With You" (unreleased vocal mix) (6:17)
Review: Quantize's second offering is another irresistibly lovely house EP with funky and soulful vibes to spare. It's a varied bag of artists at the controls with Michele Chiavarini going first with the throwback vocals and piano-laced house grooves of 'Let Me See You Clap Your Hands'. Emmaculate's 'Konga Madness' has stomping Afro vibes and big horn energy making for a big carnival vibe and then things get impossibly smooth and seductive on the flip with Terry Hunter, DJ Spen & Reelsoul combining to great effect on 'Warning' (feat Rona Ray. Last of all is a sunny take on Michael Jackson's 'Rock With You' that has been all re-sung and reworked by Reelsoul, Tasha LaRae & DJ Spen.

Deep House Fusion EP
Cat: BLURWAX 003. Rel: 26 Feb 24
ColorJaxx - "I Know You" (5:15)
T.Markakis - "Ain`t Like That" (5:56)
Manuel Kane - "Funk" (6:42)
Review: The third vinyl release of the year from Blur Records sees three distinguished producers - ColorJaxx, T.Markakis and Manuel Kane - sharing duties, each delivering a track each but with the distinctive, music-centred 'deep house fusion' flavour of the Blur label very much at their heart. ColorJaxx's 'I Know You' kicks off proceedings in upbeat mood, goaded along by a skippy garage beat, some beautiful piano work and arresting male vocals. 'Ain't Like That' by T.Markakis rolls slower and deeper, clouds of warm synth giving it a reassuring, dub feel, while Manuel Kane's 'Funk' boasts a cheery, end-of-evening sparkle with its hypnotic vocal samples and gentle sirens. Quality without pretention whichever way you turn.

Creative Swing Alliance - "In My Arms"
Thrilogy - "Arctic"
Review: Late last year the Wolf Music crew launched a dedicated vinyl only series in triumphant fashion with the double dose of Red Rack' Em that was In Love Again. Evidently looking to maintain a high profile for this new endeavour, the second release in the series features the talented duo that is Creative Swing Alliance! If you've shaken a leg at a recent Wolf Music gig you'll no doubt be familiar with "In My Arms" from Pabs Valentine and his fellow Creative Swinger Steven Joyce Ames, a sublime arrangement where percussion rattles away with just a hiss of distortion, complemented by filtered M1 stabs, a beefy bassline and some fierce vocal hooks. Heading up the B Side is Wolf cub Thrillogy; don't be put off by the chilly title, "Arctic" is actually all about the warmth that resonates from those huge synth lines.

Das Komplex - "Galaxy" (9:26)
Tecwaa - "Cosmic Dust" (3:05)
Achim Maerz - "Nebula" (5:46)
Jacques Bon - "Sky Waves" (5:30)
Review: Landing on a hand-stamped, blue marble and limited edition 12" are four more deep and dubbed out house tunes from the latest instalment of Mireia's We'll Sea series. Das Komplex kicks off with a serious aqueous rhythm drenched in waves of synth with a pained vocal sample that really makes it stick in your mind. Tecwaa knocks it back even further to a slow motion underwater dub current that gently moves you to a state of bliss. 'Nebula' from Achim Maerz is more upright and upbeat, with bright chords shining through the vast groove caverns as neat chords dance up top. 'Sky Waves' closes out in warm, rough edged lo-fi deep house fashion.

Review: Deep Inspiration Show Records is a label out of Bielefeld, Germany with a focus on underground house music by artists with passion and soul from all over the world. Family Things Vol.4 - The Final Chapter features four artists providing a wide selection of moods and grooves. The ever reliable DJ Aakmael serves up his trademark style of deepness on 'Lakes', Barce gets that soulful and emotive Detroit sound going on with 'Universal Sound' and the Soul Renegades get seriously slo-mo (and lo-slung!) on 'Vibrations'. Finally, Allstarr Motomusic proves you can make a dope beat deep on the sensual 'I Care' (Radio Edit).

Cranes In The Sky (DJ Pope Funkhut reprise) (8:26)

Cranes In The Sky (Star One KDA Meltdown dub) (4:45)
Review: Baltimore-based DJ Oji has been in the house music game for a long time now, starting out with his own Poji label alongside DJ Pope around 1994 and steady trucking since then with his warm, approachable brand of deep house. Known for his collaborations with strong female vocalists, on this latest release for Foundation Music he teams up with Tracy Hamlin for 'Cranes In The Sky', a sentimental piece steeped in soulful composition. Pope steps up for a remix which strips the tune back without losing the message, while on the flip Joe Goddard brings his brand of bumpin', off-kilter floor-filling magic to bear, and then Star One drops the 'KDA Meltdown Dub' in a tougher, techier style which has plenty of fun dicing up Hamlin's vocal for a fresh and fruity version.

Libelula (5:46)
Coal In My Chest (Frankey & Sandrino remix) (5:36)
Review: Frankey & Sandrino go together like tea and cake, like clubbing and expensive water, or like DC10 and v-neck t-shirts. They are an accomplished pair who know exactly what they are doing in the studio and how to get the biggest reactions on the dance floor. For this new outing, they find themselves on Sum Over Histories with three more tech house cuts full of tension. 'Der Sprung' is cold and steely, the abstract sounds making for an austere listen while 'Libelula' has a more empowering feel on chunky marching drums overlaid with confident synths. 'Coal In My Chest' is a cinematic ambient piece.

Empyrean Crossing (4:29)
Review: Gratts is back once again, hot on the heels of various Balearic outings like 'Sun Circles', 'Pretty Lights' and 'Jour De Fete' but this time he is in house mode. This release comes under his new Trackhead T moniker and finds him keeping things raw and stripped back. For the sessions, the Belgian artist limited himself to using only around 12 channels maximum per tune. This Klub Romance EP is the result and a track that harks back to his Berlin stomping ground, with deep but driving house cuts that have subtle hints of everyone from Felix Da Housecat to Boo Williams. The low slung sleaze and muted rave stabs of 'My Miseducation' is our standout.

Acidboychair - "The End (At Any Speed)" (4:48)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Gravity Graffiti has been doing great things with its series of split 12"s already, but now the Italian label goes one better for its tenth release with this mighty double pack of heavy hitters. First up is the ever-untouchable Yoshinori Hayashi, who gets as straight up as he possibly could with the freaky house burner "Dissociative." Telephones is feeling particularly dubbed out and groovy on "Kalimbalimbo", while DB.Source and Riccardo Schiro take things strung out and textural on "Montevago". Dynamo Dreesen is in rave mode for the pepped up and delightfully weird "Reactivate", leaving the final side to Oyvind Morken & Kaman Leung's chugging "Tunnel Visjon" and the rubbery side swipes of Acidboychair's "The End (At Any Speed)".

Jay Ward - "Everything That I Need" (5:01)
Review: Reptile Mob is a newly launched, vinyl-only sub-label of the well-regarded GLBDOM imprint. It kicks off with a five-track various artists release that pays homage to the garage sound. 'Don't Know It' by Highrise opens up with a distantly 90s vibe, then Sky Joose shows his class on 'On The Shores' with its hard-edged bassline and full-throttle drums. Johnny U-Tah works some re-pitched and time-stretched vocals to perfection on 'Voices In My Head', with further gems from The Thunderkats whose 'Melatron' is a piano-laced bumper and last of all Jay Ward's 'Everything That I Need' brims with vocal lushness. A top draw start for sure.

Low Steppa & Crusy - "BFG" (5:44)
Eden Prince - "Get Down" (5:27)
Review: Toolroom share the seventh instalment of their label Sampler series, bringing together four new ones from six artists in their roster; Martin Ikin, Raumakustik & Tony Romera, Low Steppa & Crusy, and Eden Prince. These are huge, ravey, deep techy numbers for the big-room-inclined; we're rhythmically and vocal-samply implored to oscillate at a nigh-militant frequency, though the impulse to dance doesn't come without its shuffles and wonks. Our highlight here is the beatless breakdown in 'BFG', on which that delicious chord stab truncates all expectations thereafter.

Review: Nu Groove's legacy has long been assured as one of the early and pioneering house labels out of New York. After the first wave it cemented itself in the deeper end of the spectrum with artists like The Burrell Brothers being key to that success. Here they appear under the other alias, New York House'n Authority, on a superb EP of classic cuts that also features Jazz Documents, Tech Tax Inc and House Neegroz, all of whom have been edited somewhat here by new school names. Review: Jihoon links with some talented musicians including Thomas Xu, Omar Meftah, Eric Meftah and Ian Gold on this brilliant new three-tracker on One Spoke. It kicks off with the sublime 'Good In The Bad' which is a jazzy viber with flute lines dancing their own dance above lovely contemporary broken beats. Dual Sense - "Morning Driver"
Review: Welcome to Nila's Quest, a brand new label that starts as all good day's should, with a healthy serving of breakfast. It's an Argentina Breakfast, to be precise, and the first of what we can only assume will be a series of releases under this title. Jovit is first out of the blocks with the cosmic and crunchy tech house of 'Gamma Goblin' while Ian Puchetti then gets all blissed out and beach with his Ibiza tinged deep house cut 'Dreams'. There is a charming sense of 80s synth nostalgia to the snappy beats of Bruno & TOBI's 'Te Quiero' then Dual Sense's 'Morning Driver' closes out with a perfect soundtrack to late night driving.

Review: We've been enjoying the first few volumes of Selador Recordings's Magic Black Plastik series and this fourth one keeps the quality levels high. It assembles a fine crew of artists for some quality house steeped in emotion. 'Will We Ever Learn' (Jamiie remix) opes up with some sophisticated string stabs and nice deep groove before a Luke Brancaccio & Gai Barone remix brings a little techno futurism and steeliness to Anthony Pappa & Jamie Stevens's 'Hold You Back.' The B1 is a tune to lock a late night crowd into a melodic haze and the final Tim Engelhardt remix is a chunky but melodic roller.

The electronic music world knows to put respect on the Motor City, but the "Detroit EP" represents a fusion, emphasizing l'accent aigu - not a typo or spec on your screen that needs cleaning. Between Kage and Taho, their production pedigree includes releases for labels like FXHE, Planet-E, Delsin, F.Comm, and more, so it's no surprise the pairing makes for a masterfully produced EP covering the spectrum of Detroit house and techno sounds, with an added deft touch from its French connection.

Review: Telomere Plastic asks you to Remember Your Days with a new six-track various artists EP full of delightfully designed club sounds. The melodies on Hiroyuki Kato are impossibly pure and delicate as they rain down the face of the shuffling drums of 'Black' while Six Dreams offers a complete vibe flip - the crisp and kinetic electro of 'Static Es.' Ty Senrna gets into a twitchy mutant tech house groove on 'Going Out Of Business' and Sherman C's 'Once U Pop' is an acid-laced breakbeat gem with a brilliantly tongue-in-cheek vocal sample that runs right through it, and Konerytmi shuts down with the silky drum breaks and sci-fi piste of 'Aikapiste'.

Review: Long-serving, jazz-loving deep house duo Kemetic Just have been working with Terrence Downs for years, with the singer's soulful vocals appearing on many of their tracks over the last two decades. There's no original mix of 'We R Culture' here, but rather a quartet of club-ready remixes. DJ Spinna leads the way with vocal and instrumental variations of his 'Galactic Soul Mix' - a gorgeously colourful, pin-sharp shuffle through synth-powered deep house loveliness with all of the intricate musical touches and kaleidoscopic keyboard solos you'd expect from the NYC producer. Elsewhere, Wipe The Needle re-frames the track as a breezy, musically rich slab of jazz-funk-tinged broken beat of the sort regularly served up by Dego and Kaidi Tatham, while the Househeads mix is a carnival-ready, samba-house treat.

Kemetic Just are always worthy of more shine, not least when it comes to their 2004 album The Peace Between Us. It was a bold take on future jazz and deep house with a raw edge, and 'Romance With You' was a standout track which now gets a full side of vinyl to bump out on. We're not sure on the provenance of 'Arawak' on the B-side, but it's unmistakably the handiwork of Gifted + Blessed under his The Reflektor moniker, which means you get treated to a singular kind of electro full of feeling and flair.

Review: Uk label Toolroom has become one of the most prominent in the world and a real entry point into dance music for younger ears. Mark Knight has worked tirelessly to make that happen and now he's been busy in the studio cooking up a cross over hit with horns desired to be heard on the most sun kissed dance floor's this summer. It's got plenty of well known samples, rolling drum beats and diva vocals that will have you emptying your lungs. The Danny Howard remix is a little more tense and late night for when the sun drops and things get more heads down.

Review: From Kon's forthcoming compilation on BBE entitled Kon & The Gang, this 12? sampler features two cuts taken from the LP and an exclusive remix from Boston producer and mix engineer Caserta, namely "Timeless" (Caserta mix)" a tasty serving of super deep and low slung disco goodness. A more functional edit for DJ use follows on "Timeless" (remix - Caserta mix)". On the flip Truccy (better known as Compost's Rainer Truby and Corrado Bucci) present "Closer", a gorgeous slo-mo house jam with a rolling groove fetauring all the good stuff: swirling Rhodes keys, groovy congas and hypnotic vox.

Turbotito & Ragz - "Pyaar" (Lovey dubby dub) (5:20)
Review: Naya Beat's modus operandi is to champion the OG sounds of the South Asian underground through the lenticular funnel of dance music. Their latest in this effort is a breakout wonder in V/A form, herding together three contemporary club titans for a jolly trans-national dialogue over the original stylings of an inimitable key player in proliferation of Bhangra music, Manjeet Kondal. The late great Kondal hears one original piece, 'Pyaar', reissued, alongside two exclusive versions of 'Ishkaan De Mamle' by digger extraordinaire Mr. Scruff, followed by a closing, straight-from-the-stems downtempo acid dub tribute by modern day remixers and DJs Turbotito & Ragz. This is an honorific tribute to the crossection of late 80s to early 90s Bhangra music with acid house, carefully modelled after the aesthetic sensibilities of the time.

Review: Spanish label Mate is back with more excellent Deep House cuts from different corners of the scene. Vick Lavender repeats on the label this time with a vocal song feat. David Glen, simply magical. Italian finest Reekee which has just been released on Patric Scott's Sistrum presents a fusion of electronica and jazz with solid and elegant drums. Shaka from Switzerland offers us the groove and house vibes straight to the dancefloor. Nicola Alteri is The Mechanical Man, broken beat with sharp chords and R&B vocals combined perfectly. Review: You will of course know if you are reading this that Nu Groove was a seminal New York house label that lay a blueprint for deep stuff back in the 80s and 90s. This fresh 12" serves up a third volume of label edits from various artists from across the spectrum. Metro's 'Turnstyle Turbulance' is tackled first by NiCe7 who brings bumpy drums, then Mark Broom's Vox Flanger Mixx of an N.Y. House'n Authority classic is a steamy jacker with lovely old-school vibes. Our favourite though is Asylum's 'Guitarz' (Honey Dijon & Luke Solomon edit) which is a nice mid-tempo workout with seductive claps and excellent hi hats.

Review: If you were to picture a definitive mid 90s Ibiza terrace scene, there's every chance it would be soundtracked by David Morales' eternal classic, 'Needin U'. It's just one of those all-time classics which perfected the house music recipe in a seemingly simple but oh-so-smart way, and now it's been handed over to Riva Starr for a fun but totally respectful remix to give the iconic track a fresh slant. On the flip of this release on Snatch! we get a new look at Italo house classic 'Rich In Paradise' from FPI Project, revised by Soul Speech in full vocal and dub versions and sounding primed for big party moments.

Neighborhood Watch Volume One features a wide selection of moods and grooves: NativeSun vs JamesBangura get stuck into some dark dubstep on 'Demon Mode' much like The Khan does later on the deeply meditative 'Part Of Me (Ode To DC), while Sami gets their swing on with the classic house of 'Marty & Jack', Juana's tunneling 'It's Low' gives you a dose of heroin house and over on the flip Max D gets deep down and dirty on 'No Snare'.

Making sure that is the case again here are Oceanvs Orientalis and Tooker who combine for 'Il Lupo.' Rutilance Recordings move fast with their releases, but not so fast that they're able to bypass our critical floodgates. Thankfully for them, we like this new one. Label residents Oden, Fatzo and Thurman here deliver two garage house cuts sure to fire up the deep ends of dancefloors; assuming they're not swimming pools anymore! We're drowning in heat, as 'Marvel House' causes us to marvel in awe at the house chops on display. 'Call The Doctor', meanwhile, leans far further into the jackin' end of things, remaining bloopy, vocal sciencey, and a delicious. Spicy tech house from this lot.

Review: Omar S sets his considerable dancefloor skills to something a little different on a new 7" featuring the vocal talents of TroiAlexis. A young talented Detroit female songwriter who was discovered by Omar S at the Conant Gardens Party Store when she sung acapella to him at a Hi Tech party, TroiAlexis lends an air of soulful class to Omar's trademark electro-slanted electronics on both sides of this single. There's a stripped down - and we mean stripped right down - bass heavy R&B mix on the A-side, while the flip has a sturdier house mix that still gives her voice room to soar.

Oneiric & Vortex open up with a tune that brings to mind the warmth of Motor City techno on 'Oasi' before GNMR layer up supersized hi hats and seriously weighty beatdown drums, Populous offers the loopy melodic delight of 'Barragan' and G-Connection heads into the cosmos with the dreamy ambient of 'Free Your Spirit', a perfect mood build if ever we heard one. Review: A follow-up to last year's successful compilation 'Faith Presents: Ain't That A Groove', is given to us by the London-based label Faith ran by DJs Terry Farley, Stuart Patterson and Dave Jarvis. The high energy house party sound kicks off with Nolan who features the legendary house voice of Sir. Robert Owens. Hilit Kolet isn't shy with the extended remix of 'POV Siren'. This sound is synonymous with Feller and Heller DJ sets of the mid 90s. Philippa's extended remix of 'The Night' by Roach Motel backs that one up with another prime floor filler with hardly any let up. Lastly, Terry Farley, Wade Teo & Kameelah Waheed brings he deep groover "Dancing After Dark" to the party. These tracks will have you and the nightclub crowd out dancing all night.

Review: Iceland's Thule offshoot label 66 Degrees was a vital label back in the day. After a 20-year hiatus, it came back strong in August and now follows up quickly with a second superb EP. This one is a carefully curated various artists collection that pulls together some local house anthems new and old. Ozy's 'Sequential Dub' is a super smooth deep house number with lush chord work. Sanasol brings heavier, more raw house drums and grinding bass that will get floors in a sweat. Oz Artists mixes up a raw, mechanical groove with balmy, dreamy pads up top to make for something utterly compelling on 'Atomox; while last of all Terry Cummingz pays homage to dusty Windy City house on his perfectly lo-fi 'Cherry Bon Bon. Classy business for sure.

Review: Greg Paulus is a noted trumpet player who rose up through the ranks alongside the likes of Wolf & Lamb and Soul Clap. The American has genuine chops which he shows off once more here on an EP with Taylor Bense for the UK deep house dons at Freerange. 'Heat Makes Sense' is a leftfield sound with curious melodic motifs and off-grid bass notes next to funky whistles. 'Switch' (feat Stimulus & Malik Work) is then a more blissed-out and summary deep house groove and 'Marino' (feat Big $exy) comes alive with Paulus's trumpet licks bringing the playful and sun-kissed energy. Last of all is a nice stripped-back and dry tech cut, 'Do You Love Me?' (The Martinez Brothers edit).

Tusk says, "The title track from TW15 was conceived after a particular heavy Tusk Wax label party at Renate in Berlin. I went back to my old pal PORK INTL's place for a bit of drunk studio time and told him all about the living legend that is Gizzy the Fox. A couple of bottles of wine later and I was telling the story to a microphone and we were writing an oddity of a track. If you have had the pleasure to meet Gizzy and spend time in Renate you might understand the lyrics, if not, they'll probably just sound like the rantings of a drunk man, funny that."

The first in the series is a various artists affair with label co-owners inkipak and The Vast Profound, as well as ReKaB and Rai Scott. The tunes are not credited to the artists so you will have to work that out for yourselves. There is dreamy deep house lushness and more tase tech on the a-side, then squelchy electro-funk and escapist ambient house on the B-side with 'When Funkcutter Met Candiflp' a real highlight.

Emile - "Jeu Froid" (6:14)
Review: The second Abstract Cuts release is an EP split four ways, but with new, unconventional approaches to the dancefloor at the heart of each submission and all using vintage drum machines and samplers. The Robot Dance Connection's 'Powers Of Ten' (R2d2 live edit) kicks off side one, shiny high frequency polish played off against a gorgeously stubborn techno beat, before the slinkier and smoother 'Gold Saucer' by Brunzi offers an equally danceable but less angular counterpoint. Flip it over and Tomska's 'Lethal Overdose' (Touch dub 2022) offers rushing sonics, off kilter snare damage and four to the floor thump, before Emile's 'Jeu Froid' completes the set in grimy basement style.

Review: Good Vibrations Music boss Sean McCabe has done the world a favour by persuading NYC house legend Victor Simonelli to resurrect his Solution project for the first time in 14 years. Strictly speaking, 'Was It Just a Game' is not brand new - it appeared on the flip of 1993 single 'Was That All It Was' - though the three versions most definitely are. Justin Stride steals the show under his Black Sonix moniker with a bumpin' A-side revision that recalls the glory days of 1990s New Jersey garage - all infectious organ stabs, rich chords, cut-up Tafuri vocal snippets and bustling drums. Elsewhere, McCabe delivers a tidy 21st century dub that features a wonderfully fuzzy bassline, while the Motion Severn remix is a warming drift through tactile deep house territory.
